Uh-oh. Noah attempted as innocent a face as he could manage.

"You are so going to get it once we are done here." Corbin warned. But was that really a warning? More like a promise.

At Jason's request, Sandy suddenly got a very thoughtful look.

"Sandy," Mark began slowly, "whatever you're thinking it's not worth it we're like actual family and stuff. Bros. Real bros. Do you know how hard it is to find legit, not photoshopped 300 dpi shots of asian boobi- I mean of work related things. I'm begging you, my heart is bleeding here, I'll do anything."

She smirked. "Anything huh. Well boys, list your requests, because Mark is listening."

"I bet," Noah replied, and hopped up, scooting back to the table to secure some deviled eggs.

Corbin watched Noah walk away with keen interest as he returned to his own food. Much faster at eating now suddenly.

The task of fetching a slice of lemon cake was readily accepted the second that it was given to Mimsy, and she immediately moved a short distance towards the table again to search for one. Time was of the essence in this sweet little game of persuasive misdirection.

While she considered a more long term gameplan to cover up her wrongdoing, her eyes scanned the table: puddings and pies and cakes and petit fours and dipped fruit and utensils and an attendant and...Dwight hiding obviously behind the ice sculpture at the end of it. Puzzling, but not important enough to divert her attention away from Dessertquest, so she just quickly waved to look acceptably polite in case he saw her.

Thankfully, she found a neat line of lemon sheet cake squares just in time to miss Ramona's hands-on experiments with the dessert table, and turned to offer it to her with a smile. Compliments were cute from children, even if the merit of the claim was disputable. She remembered how everything seemed much better and more wondrous than it was, when she was about that age.

"Aw. Well, thank you. That is very nice of you to say." She reached to pat her on the head before Ramona's addition sunk in. "And y--aaaah, u-um."

The hand on her head began to tremble, because she could not manage to remember to move it. Her face was well into the pink range and her eyes were wide, stare distant. She looked like she'd just deactivated, but her thoughts raced as she tried to reason something new away; Ramona never lied to her, as far as she knew, but she still had to be mistaken.

"Mimsy?" Ramona called out. "Miiimsy?" She poked the woman with her fork. Was she sick? Breaking? Dying? Ramona took the offered cake and dove into it, keeping a wary eye out on Mimsy as she devoured the treat.

"MONA." The booming sound of her father's voice made her throw the cake up into the air, and hold her hands behind her back. He was still sitting at the table with the finally-dwindling group of kids, but he'd noticed that his own daughter was missing from the throng, and looked around - only to spot her beside the one person she really shouldn't be next to tonight, with a piece of cake being messily devoured. So his authoritarian voice echoed down the dining room to her, and she had responded terribly.

The cake slapped face down on the floor when it landed.

"Oops." She whispered up to her co-conspirator. "Buuuusteeed. You're in so much trouble now."

It was unclear how she was warning Mimsy, considering how impossible it was for Robert to know her part in the crime. But, again, Ramona knew exactly what she was doing, every step of the way. And in this case, Mimsy needed to be neck deep in guilt.

Mimsy jumped when Ramona did, startled for the second time in no more than five minutes. If misbehaving put her on edge this much, she didn't think that she ever wanted to do it again. At least she could put this behind her.

Or she could have, at least, had she not noticed the cake on the floor at the same moment that she received a whispered indicator of how severe her transgressions were. She gasped and pressed her hands to her face.

The cake was ruined. Ramona's health and well-being was ruined. Her reputation was ruined. Everything was ruined, and it was her fault. The thought was more than a bit of a hyperbole, but the waiter that sighed and knelt down to begin cleaning up the cake didn't seem to think so.

She turned towards Robert with a stare wide with guilt and humiliation, hands still covering her mouth. It looked like she was seconds away from crumpling to the floor while wailing an unintelligible apology.

Ramona might have had a single moment, a streak of shame for making Mimsy look that guilty, before pushing it aside to get back on track with her plan. So instead, she stood there and waited, very still, for one of them to head towards the other.

But Mimsy remained frozen where she was, and Robert was still standing there with at least three children, one of which was Miranda who still hadn't been picked up yet. Ramona kept looking back and forth, back and forth, until her innocent face turned into something a lot more like over-exaggerated frustration.

"I HATE ADULTS." Ramona screamed - quite out of nowhere - as she stormed over to her father. She stopped, and backtracked to give Mimsy a very stern look. Then she turned on her heel, and headed to the table, to sit like a little lady in one of the chairs. Her hands even folded in front of her, but Robert was buying none of it - partially because those hands were frosting covered.

"Who told you you could eat sweets before dinner?" Robert muttered, immediately grabbing a napkin and bending down to his knees to wipe her hands clean. "You know better than that. You're a good girl Mona, you're gonna ruin your appetite." He tried to scrub under her nails with the napkin, but had to give up on getting her completely clean without any water.

"Nobody," She whined, tugging her hands away. "I just-" Wait a minute, she thought to herself. Another idea popped into her head. "Mimsy did." She admitted. "She said it was okay. You should probably talk to her about that."

"Mona."

"Daddy?"

"Mona."

"Daddy!"

He threw the napkin in her face, and she giggled when it hit. "I'm being super duper serious! Just ask her yourself! She's right there. HEY, MIMSY, MY DAD WANTS TO ASK YOU SOMEMMFFF."

The napkin was now in her mouth.

A tiny, well dressed storm rolled into the room accompanied by the sound of angry clacking from sharp point heels. She was livid, absolutely seething, and she walked as if the floor itself had wronged her and with each rolled step she sought to drive the heel of her shoe into the polished wood. Hell, if she'd really tried, she probably could have, but it wasn't the flood Peyton was pissed at. Oh no. It was her best friend and her darling cousin. Of all the possible drama she'd foreseen going down this evening that hadn't even crossed her mind.

But fine. Fine. Let them go off alone. Let Otto find out first had why she'd been trying so hard to keep him away from Maebe. Hell, let Alistaire find them. That would have been ******** hilarious. She almost hoped for that. Almost.

As mad as she was, she really didn't want to have to go head to head with Alistaire over anything he might do to her cousin if he did find him tangled up in Maebe's clutches.

With a frustrated huff the teen flipped curls the color of a summer sunset back over her shoulder. Thin arms folding as she finally came to a stop near the buffet table. Not at all interested in the food, she gave a disdainful sniff before rolling her eyes up and away. Only to have her gaze land on someone almost as infuriating as Maebe herself. "Thompson." There was a certain coolness tot he name, though it was certainly more friendly then her usual all out dismissal of his presence.

She was frowning as she turned her head to look at him-- really look at him. He was still scarred up, still radiating with an air that was all to similar to someone Peyton was a lot closer to, but like everyone else tonight, he was buffed and polished and almost dapper.

It was unclear as to when exactly Kat had arrived, but the lack of coffee at this buffet was enough of a disappointment. The food looked good and all, but it didn't compare to her hot beverage. Spotting Mark off in the distance chatting with three other people, she made her way over to her boyfriend. Draping herself over his back, she wrapped her arms around him in a loose hug. "What are you talking about?"

"Creedy," he said, without looking up from intently examining the elaborate finger-food tidbit in his hand. But he'd apparently seen her coming at some point, because his next comment was: "Dress clashes with your hair." And then, without segue, he picked up another--well, whatever it was he was eating--and extended it towards her, still without looking up, this time from the spread on the buffet table. "Try this," he instructed her. "Tastes like squid ink, but obviously no squid ink there."

Which was more than he usually had to say to her, but he hadn't missed the angry snarling click of her heels and suspected that it might be easier than usual to antagonize her.

Oh no.

Oh no.

The ends of Mimsy's fingers curled up against her face as she flinched and jumped yet again. It was not surprise that caused it this time - it was the soul-crushing weight of the knowledge that she knew exactly what she had done when she heard her name, and knew that she was in trouble, just as Ramona said she was. He was going to ask her what she'd done, even though he undoubtedly knew, and she would have to somehow make it through an entire retelling of her actions.

It was going to kill her.

She began to walk with slow, even steps again, the stride of a murderer to the electric chair. Her hands moved away from her mouth, despite how badly she wanted to cover it forever, and came to rest above her chest, hands clutched over her rapidly beating heart.

When she reached him, she took a deep breath, opened her mouth to speak, and immediately looked away from him, her gaze eventually wandering to her feet.

"Hello, Robert," she greeted him, voice shaking. "I...I know. I have done something wrong, and I..."

She shook her head when she couldn't finish her sentence, and tried to remember to breathe. She was still afraid to look at him, but she tried to anyway, only managing to tilt her head up enough to barely see him beneath her bangs.

"I am deeply sorry. I hope that, um. I hope that this will not sour your night, or the start of the new year, or.."

Or literally everything else ever.

Pale brows dipped, eyes narrowing before features softened into something lofty and untouchable. She knew what he was doing, and it wasn't going to work. Not this time. The comment on her hair was ignored, and instead she peered down at the little bit of whatever it was he was holding out to her. Almost hesitantly she took it, gaze flicking back up to him as she took a very dainty nibble, then a slightly larger bite so she could actually taste the damn thing. "It does," she agreed flatly, reaching for a napkin so she could clean the tips of her fingers.

She was quiet after that, attention all of the little square of tissue thin paper now crushed into her palm. Some of the wind having left her sails at the utterly benign interactions she now found herself in. There was no game here, no careful tip-toeing around. She didn't have to pretend to be anything she wasn't. Thompson knew who she was, what she was.

Kostya smiled even bigger at Sandy, his most favourite of favourite people. For this fleeting moment, at any rate.

"He has to promise to taste-test whatever I bake when Julie isn't looking. For, I don't know, two months." That should be plenty of time to inflict something terrible on him.

He nodded at Kat. "Talking about what to replace your boyfriend's porn collection vith. Or, really, vhat he vill do so ve do not."
