Ignazio’s uniform was neatly put together as it usually was but the crimson blazer was missing. The burning coat was left on the other side of the long table passed the sea of books and scrolls. Ignazio began to pick up book after book reading through a few pages before setting the book down and grabbing another. This is how Ignazio studied, not a single subject at one time but multiple at once. This was one of the teachings of the Barthomeloi family; one could not obtain perfection learning a single topic at once. As Ignazio read through the books he found the first couple to be very interesting as they spoke of different forms of exorcism one being Shinto and the other Buddhism, some of the words in the books were in a language that Ignazio wasn’t very fluent in and had to grab a dictionary from the other side of the table. Taking his leave from his chair Ignazio made his way to the center of the table holding on the Sanskrit book in one hand while plunging his free hand into the sea of leather and paper until he found the dictionary he was looking for. There were a few that he tossed aside one of them being Japanese and the other Chinese.

The soon to be King took a few steps back to his chair and leaned over the table as he placed the two books down side by side, grabbed a pen from the table and his notepad and began to write the Sanskrit down word for word. Upon his completion, Ignazio opened the dictionary and began to write down the translation of the words he found. He looked at the words and their meanings then back to the book written in Sanskrit. Ignazio used his right hand that held the pen to pull back the stray hairs from in front of his face; behind his ear. The tip of the pen made its way towards the smooth lips of the Tamer before moving back towards the notebook and more words began to appear on the page as Ignazio wrote more down and turned the pages in the Sanskrit book with his free hand. He looked at the next page and to his amazement there were pictures. He looked at the images intently as he placed the pen down and picked up the book and then looked at his right hand and pinched his pinky and ring finger down on his left hand then with a little pressure from his thumb he held them in place. Ignazio’s right index and middle finger were still erect as he stood there mimicking the hand drawn images. He then released the seal and began to pace around the room and turned to the next page.

The next page had a mantra on it along with another image; the image was of nine lines alternating on the page. Ignazio looked at the lines carefully and then managed to find himself at the head of the table again in front of the dictionary. He then began to once again translate the words and write down the new words he didn’t know. ”Kujikiri also known as the Nine Cuts. It’s not a difficult Fatal Verse and it’s the basic fundamentals behind Eastern exorcism.” he began to speak to himself as he looked over the mantra and mouthed the words without letting them escape his throat. His tongue slowly escaped his lips and wet the bottom one slowly before returning into the cave which was his mouth. Ignazio looked at the book another time before closing his eyes and trying to remember the mantra. He began to mouth the words again while saying them in his head. ”Rin, Pyo To, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zen, Zai” he opened his eyes and looked down at the page and noticed he was wrong in the chain in which the mantra was spoken and then closed his eyes and tried again, but with a second attempt he failed again to remember the single line of words. Taking in a deep breath Ignazio looked deeply at the page and then began to mouth the words once again, slowly first and then went through saying them again quickly.

Upon trying another time after his last failed attempt to memorize the words he threw his head backwards and then sighed as he closed his eyes once more and began to think of the words as more of a song than a string of words. The fact that the version of the Lotus scripture he was using was a Japanese translation he was more focused on Buddhism than Shinto styled exorcism. Ignazio’s eyes slowly released themselves from the binding of his eyes lids and then his head lowered. Opening his mouth to get read and speak he looked forward. Ignazio raised his right hand and then created the seal with his index and middle finger extended. Moving his arm vertical and alternating with horizontal slashes Ignazio mimicked the drawings in the sutra. He then began to mutter ”Rin, Pyo, To, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen.” with each swipe of his fingers , each line being a different word. Ignazio looked down at the book and noticed he performed the Nine Cuts correctly. A small smile appeared on his face as he began to move his arm again and tried to say the mantra even faster. Upon reciting the mantra correctly again he gave himself a little cheer before taking a step away from the table and pointing at a vase not too far away. He then moved his fingers in the opposite style, starting with a horizontal slash and alternating with a vertical ”Rin, Pyo, To, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen!” he called out as he ended with a slightly louder pitch in voice, as he completed the mantra the vase shattered into nine perfectly cut sections in the method as if it would have cut a possessed host. Ignazio placed his left hand behind his head and rubbed it lightly.

Trotting over to the wreckage he looked around for a broom or something to clean up the mess, but unfortunately he didn’t see one within his line of sight so, like any teenager he just walked away from it and ignored the fact it had even shattered or the fact it was even his fault. He was deep enough in the library that by time the sound reached the ears of anyone, he wouldn’t even be in the library any longer, or the person who could have broken the vase would have been gone. Ignazio, took his seat and turned through the pages of the Lotus Sutra, he wasn’t a fan of reading basic things, he was a man of action. But that’s when he noticed that the large leather bound book he was reading was a written replica of the original Lotus sutra which was more than likely locked away somewhere to keep people from damaging it. He turned through a few more pages and found a black bookmark on a page with a strange seal etched into it. He inspected the seal for a second and then threw it aside as it didn’t have any meaning to him. Ignazio turned through the pages and began to lose his interest of the large book. ” Talk about being bored with this now, isn’t there anything; that can help me do something worth my talent. I mean I’m an exorcist not a child.”

Not too long after his complaining about the boring material in the Lotus Sutra about demons and types of demons, he came across something that actually sparked his attention. ”Tengu?” he questioned out loud as he never really heard of a creature known as a Tengu. He continued reading the Sanskrit with the few notes written in Japanese from a previous person who was studying the very same spell. Ignazio made his way to the dictionary once again and then found the word he was looking at meaning was ‘to summon’ and if anything the young Tamer knew about, was summoning. Although attempting a Fatal Verse that dealt with summoning without knowing any history behind the creature was not very wise. Ignazio pushed himself away from the table and then began travel through the aisles, he made his way into the sections of Demonology. Looking under the letter of ‘T’ for the name of the demon, he didn’t find anything. Changing routes he walked along the other side and looked for foxes, but then found nothings but books on Kyuubi and Byakko. Ignazio picked up one of the books on Byakko from the shelf. It was a smaller book but it was still pretty thick for something he just wanted to skim through.

Flipping through the pages as he placed his back on the wall of the bookshelf; Ignazio scanned through the pages with his eyes moving left and right. The young tamer found the word Tengu again and this time it made a little more sense while it wasn’t under demons. They were looked at as spirits rather than demons because of their divine protection to mountains and forest ranges. Ignazio closed the book and then made his way out of the section after placing the book back where he originally found it. Turning left and then walking over to the staircase he made his way up the stairs over to the section known as Ayanaka; this section of the library was known for having works on Ayanaka’s demon lineage which included ghost, spirits, and divine sightings. To most people the demons and spirits that were found in this section were only found in Mythology of different countries.

Ignazio pushed himself through the area of books that were stacked on the ground that were forgotten or left for someone to put back. He tried to avoid messing up the piles and towers of books as he looked around the selves and in some of the piles about guardian spirits or Tengu. Ignazio took about twenty minutes in this section alone looking through the books until he found a book on one of the upper shelves. It was a deep red colored book, with a strange cover that almost looked like some sort of mask. Ignazio turned through the pages and found that it was mainly paintings and Kanji written along the sides of each painting. Ignazio closed the book and made his way down the ladder and then quickly back over to the study section of the Exorcist library where he was studying. Another five minutes wasted due to walking, even though it looked more like a light jog, Ignazio found himself back at the table with yet another new book. Opening what seemed to be more of a picture book, brought a slight disappointed face to Ignazio. ”Tengu are the production of a special union between fox spirits and birds…so basically they are Byakko that either refused to follow their Lord, or they were created by Tamers forcing their familiars to take in animals of this world. ”

Ignazio continued to read through the book and look at the pictures mainly at the different types of masks on they took on. He then saw the Sanskrit word that was for Bishamonten and quickly grabbed the Lotus Sutra and read through the passage again before looking back at the book with the paintings. ”Sonten…so is whom they serve and Sonten one of the four divas with Bishamonten will protect those whom serve justice in the name of Dharma. How interesting. But where does Bishamonten come in to play here?” he asked himself as he continued to read and then found a chart on the next page describing the divas and the different Gods. Ignazio looked at the meanings and attributes then closed his eyes and smirked slightly. ”I guess I’ll only have skill using Bishamonten’s power and the power of Sonten to some degree, I guess I should learn to be a little more forgiving.” he snarled before going back to the book of the Tengu paintings and the few passages found on the page about the Tengu.

The young Barthomeloi studied the passages about the Tengu and slowly began to have an understand for what kind of Fatal Verse it really was. It was more of one for protection but it was often used for searching for intruders or for people who stole from temples, and if the painting stories were true about the Tengu, then they were extremely powerful, and wouldn’t be a bother on his Qi like a normal summons would be. Ignazio then thought about his pacts with Innocentius and Garuda then sighed. He forgot, that making more connections was a little more important than learning a few verses. His father and sister practically had an army of demons under their finger tips and he was stuck with two demons. As powerful as they were he really didn’t think it was enough power to even come close to taking on his sister, let alone his father. A sigh escaped the troubled boy’s lips before he gave his face a light slap with both his hands before putting a majority of his attention on the Lotus Sutra. Ignazio believed that he had acquired enough information on the Tengu in order to know what they could do, or at least in theory. Only time would tell when he would ever need a spell like this, but it could be useful against an enemy like another Hydra. Even with just Innocentius, Ignazio was useless, but if they were able to stall the Hydra with some kind of illusion or even confuse it, even for a little while, they would have finished the exam in much faster time.

Cursing himself under his breath he looked at the words on the page as they slowly began to look like English to him, a language that was, clearer and easier for him to understand. He shook his head and looked back at the page to find the same creatively designed language had not changed. He then shrugged his shoulders and then went back to reading the material. ”Perhaps it was Bishamonten helping me? HA! As if I would get help by a divine spirit like Bishamonten, during some time like this. Don’t God’s have other important things to do with their lives? Like play gold.” A smile came across Ignazio’s face as he thought about a little joke on Bishamonten and the Gods playing a game of golf.

This mantra was longer than the one from before and a little more advance, even form a single glance at the words on the page, Ignazio knew it would take more power and concentration in order to utilize the power of the Tengu. He looked over the mantra a few times before looking at the seal required to utilize the verse. He wasn’t all that worried about it as it was a single seal but then noticed that there were a few requirements. One being the caster would have to be on a mountain or some forest ground in order to call forth the Tengu. Ignazio yawned as he stretched his arms above his head then took the sutra in to his hands before walking around with the book and looking at the mantra again. There was something about it, that he didn’t get exactly, why or how could something so short possess such strength. Ignazio found himself falling to the ground and crossing his legs as he figured it was appropriate to do while learning about Eastern exorcism. He started to flip the pages backwards and start off at one of the earlier parts of the sutra, but then something clicked in his mind as he remembered something he learned about in his class last year about Buddhism. The power of the sutra came from the repetition in which it was spoken, and it could bring shape to the spell.

Ignazio looked through the pages in order to find a simple way in order to utilize the Tengu power. Ignazio believed he memorized the sutra, but the fact he kept flipping back through the pages in order to take a glance only proved that he had not completely memorized the words on the page. Ignazio closed his eyes and sat the book on to his lap before creating the seal of Rin with his hands. He then took in a deep breath and began to breath. The words and sounds of the qi fluttered in his ears as he could almost hear the words of the mantra fly off the pages of the book and into his mind. ”Om Maruma ya Tengu Sumaki Sowaka. Om Hirar Hira Ken Hira Ken no Sowaka.” he chanted and then repeated as his Qi began to awaken and change. It was strange, the Qi that Ignazio usually had was so violent and bright, something that was to be expected of a newly trained Aria, but now it was changing. The additional training in a new form of exorcism was draining on his energy.

Simply chanting the incantation was draining enough on his mental strength that his Qi was reacting to protect the stability of its master. Ignazio continued to chant the incantation as his golden qi started to gain a darker hue before catching a blaze turning a blood red. Around the red was a ghostly blue hue but it faded quickly. Ignazio’s eyes opened as he felt the difference in Qi and another force come about him almost like assistance to his cause; was this, the will of Bishamonten?

Ignazio stopped chanting as he saw a figure appear in front of him. ”Sonten?” It was a golden statue of sorts but then it burst into a thick red flame and turned into a small bead of energy before flying into Ignazio’s body. Ignazio placed his right hand over his chest as his body went into a slight shock as the energy started to overtake him then faded as he was pulled onto his feet, causing the large book to fall to the ground with a thud, then the force dropped him down. Ignazio almost felt as though he couldn’t breathe, but as he tried to breathe it go easier. The young eyes blinked for a second as he couldn’t believe the energy he had felt or even the fact his energy was changing. An Aria was gifted in more than one form of exorcism in terms of Fatal Verses, becoming more flexible in styles that only few are capable of learning made Ignazio a little more prepared for specific battles and tasks that not everyone was capable of using. He opened his palms and looked down at his hands before clinching them into a fist and then creating the symbol for Rin once again and closed his eyes. ”Once again. The mantra for the Tengu; one more time, all that’s needed is for another try.”

Ignazio closed off his thoughts then began to chant once again ”Om Maruma ya Tengu Sumaki Sowaka…Om Hirar Hira Ken Hira Ken no Sowaka.” Ignazio didn’t want to cause anymore destruction to the Academy, and this time, actually get caught for it. The tamer opened his eyes and lowered his arms as he felt his energy returning to normal, in the sense he wasn’t practicing any longer. His Qi had begun to turn back into its golden color but then it gained another color, it became a ghostly blue. Blue being a royal color on its own, but different from the auras he had seen in the Barthomeloi house. Ignazio reached down and grabbed the Lotus Sutra from the ground and flipped over the book so he could read the page the it was currently own, but it wasn’t the page about the Tengu anymore. The fall from the slight height was enough to cause the book to fall on another page. Looking through the Sanskrit carefully Ignazio noticed that the Qi that he had gained wasn’t that of his own, but a blessing given to him from Bishamonten, at least that’s what the book claimed. Ignazio closed his eyes and then opened them again before making his way over to the table and placing the sutra down. He took in a deep breath and then slouched down into the chair before closing his eyes again to attempt to take a short nap.

Ignazio left the book on the page about Bishamonten and the Barrier Exorcism, which was a very delicate and dangerous mantra, and in most cases it was safer to cast with multiple exorcist working on the spell. Ignazio slowly drifted off into a light sleep in order to recover his strength and to recover mentally from all the studying.

Raising his head from the long table circled by books, Ignazio left out a yawn as he stretched his arms above his head and moved his left hand to his eyes and began to rub them as he continued to yawn and stretch. He looked at his left wrist at his watch and noticed that he didn’t spend too much time sleeping; an hour at most. He reached over to the Lotus Sutra and pulled it closer to him before continuing his reading. He couldn’t remember exactly where he left off but once he started to feel as if he had heard the words on the page before he passed over them and continued onto the next section. Soon he found himself flipping through the pages of the book again until he felt something within him; it was strange, it was a possession or anything like that, but more like a force, driving him to a certain page. Page three hundred and ninety-four. Ignazio turned the pages in the book and then found that this section of the sutra were on Bishamonten. Ignazio rubbed his bottom lip with his right index finger as he was trying to figure out where he came across such a random number in his head and why he knew that this section of the sutra would be most beneficial to him.

The reading on Bishamonten was educational to someone who was brought up in a Catholic household. He had to wonder, if his mother actually had some type of training within Buddhism, for some reason it seemed to flow to him almost a little too naturally. The tamer turned the page of the sutra to find an image of Bishamonten, it was a statue, holding a stupa, which represented the divine treasure house of Buddha’s teaching. Ignazio’s eyes ran along the page as he started to read out loud to himself what the pages said about Bishamonten ”Bishamonten, he is the defender of the nation, Guardian of the Dharma, and Lord of Wealth and Treasure. He’s a demon-stomping deity and is known as Tamonten, the guardian of the north and protector of the holy places where Buddha expounds the teaching. He’s also one of the Four Heavenly Kings Protecting the Four Directions.”

Bishamonten was sounding more and more like Ignazio, but the thing was he sounded more like the woman Ignazio was trying to make proud. Ignazio moved the book away and made his way from his chair over into the great pile of books looking through them for a book he grabbed before that was on the Four Heavenly Kings and the other was a roster on the Exorcist whom had attended the academy and what they had shown proficiency in; the roster was sort of like a year book of sorts, and Ignazio always took it from the reference section when he wanted to learn information on someone such as a teacher or his mother in order to be more like her. Ignazio finally found the books he was looking for as well as a separate book on Bishamonten. The young Barthomeloi took the books over to his other open books and set them down and took his seat before grabbing the roster and opening it. The boy flipped through the pages, he had already had the page with his mother’s name memorized, but at that time she was using her maiden name. Upon looking at the young beauty’s face he couldn’t help but grab his heart slightly almost with fear but soon lowered his hand as he started looking at her qualification. Moving his fingers along the paper he rubbed the edges and then found himself in complete shock that she was part of a group on campus that was known for having some of the top Aria members True Cross had ever seen. Ignazio turned the pages until he reached the page talking about the group and then found his eyes widening. His father was a member of this group and next to his name his codename he had was the God of War and next to his mother was The Merciful Goddess. Ignazio tried to shake the feeling of shock but then looked at the expression on his father’s face, it was a half-smile, something that he rarely did, but to find his mother so close to him and smiling largely this must have been before they were married or even dating. He looked at the date on the bottom of the image and then tried to think about how long they were together, but he shook his head. He had a reason for looking at this book. Ignazio turned the pages of the book backwards and went to the section for B then found his father’s page. ”Ignazio Barthomeloi; age sixteen, meister type, Tamer, specialize in tracking and assassinations, exorcism style, Aria, classification Buddhism, secondary classification Christianity, weapon of choice, lance….wait what! Did that just say Buddhism.”

Moving his head backwards and giving a slight grunt Ignazion ruffled his head before looking back at the book. ”Of course he had to be the one that studied something like Buddhism, just wanting to piss me off even more. Damn can I do one thing that’ll actually impress that guy?!” he yelled out to himself as he closed the roster and then opened the book on Bishamonten and started to read over the material. ”The God of Warriors, prayed to for victory prior to battle. Also the God of Defense against foreign invaders, a deity of healing with the power to save emperors from life threatening illness and to expel demons of plague, to keep personal enemies at bay, and to reward followers with riches, good fortune, and even children…I see, so that’s why you followed Bishamon, you’re a sly b*****d dad, well two can play it at that game. If Bishamonten favors our family then I should be able to be a vassal for him as well, and with this I’ll become a greater exorcist than you.” Ignazio said continuing to flip through the pages getting a little more understanding on the history behind Bishamon and those that follow him.

Moving back over to the Lotus Sutra, the right hand of the exorcist moved across the table and grabbed his pen and began to write in his notebook his finding. There was so much information between the book on Bishamon and the Lotus Sutra, but there wasn’t really anything about mantras or seals. Ignazio couldn’t help but think he was missing something with his note taking. Soon the pen was dropped and he became primarily focused on the Lotus Sutra. Taking the page he was on and flipping it to the following page his eyes narrowed as he found multiple spells along the page. These mantras were incredible, ”No wonder the sutra had so much information, if someone just went directly to the mantra they wouldn’t understand the power behind the words.” Ignazio looked through the continuing pages until he saw an image of what was described to be the ultimate barrier exorcism in Bishamonten’s power. It didn’t look complicated but Ignazio was a little skeptical as he remembered how the last spell he tried didn’t look hard either yet it was draining. Ignazio shook the fear and doubt and looked at the book intensely before nodding his head twice; he had decided he would learn the spell. Anything to beat his father at his own game; Ignazio looked at the spell trying to understand the fundamentals, that was until he noticed it wasn’t just a single spell. There were two different spells. It was a combination. Would it be possible for him to cast both of them alone?

The young tamer bit his bottom lip lightly and gazed at the next part of the spell. Combination spells or things that had to be used in succession were difficult, timing was extremely important and being able to contain a specific amount of Qi and keep it from dropping too quickly was also important. But the chances were most people would run out of Qi before they could complete the exorcism.

The very thought of losing too much Qi and being exposed to dangerous without his familiars to protect him wasn’t something that he wanted to put himself in the middle of, but then again he did have something else to rely on; his new team. Ignazio started to laugh after noticing he was worrying about nothing. Being able to chant fatal verses as an Aria did put him at a disadvantage but he wasn’t completely useless, that’s what being a Barthomeloi was all about, it was about mastering the unattainable and reaching the true truth of the world; nirvana. The smile faded from his face as he started to get serious and then placed his hands in front of him with the seal Rin. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath before exhaling; Ignazio continued this breathing until he reached six times and then his eyes slowly opened. His heart rate had decelerated and his Qi had found a central location within his body. The newly changed Qi was different yet is seemed so familiar to him, it was almost like his fathers, but that’s when it hit him. The day his father injected him with Qi; it wasn’t to attack him, or at least he didn’t want to think it was now. His father wasn’t such a b*****d, he showed Ignazio that Qi could grow and become at peace with the mind. As one’s Qi is the appearance of one’s soul, Ignazio knew he had come with his peace of mind and had accepted the facts of how useless he was at times, but he had determination to drive him to becoming a leader.

The ghostly blue Qi began to wrap itself around Ignazio’s body as he focused his Qi towards the center of his chest where his raised hands were. A bright light came from behind him and with the light the formation of Bishamonten before vanishing. A blue sphere of Qi circled his body from head to toe before compressing into a smaller sphere. Ignazio growled as his brow began to sweat a little and he tried to contain the energy. ”A little more, the feeling and the thoughts have to be at the same level, I have to picture the barrier and accept the facts of lost and demand acceptance.” Ignazio’s thoughts swirled through his head as it could be shown in his Qi as it was wavy from time to time and not perfectly structured. Ignazio forced his eyes to remain shut as he felt the sweat falling down his check before rolling off his chin and tapping along the carpet. Ignazio’s eyes shut open and then the barrier around his body shattered and he was forced backwards from the aftershock in energy.

Weightless; his body rammed against the nearby book shelf which caused him to fall on his knees and cough a little before having a few of the books fall down and crash into his weakened body. Ignazio screamed a little before covering his head as they slammed into his body. He closed his eyes and focused his Qi outwards to stop the remaining books as they hit a wall of shorts. The other books slid off of his back as he stood up slowly with a simple barrier around him. He let out a sigh and then rubbed his back as the books that were in the air due to his barrier slammed into the carpet some making loud echoing sounds throughout the library. Ignazio shook his head as he looked at the mess and made his way back over to the Lotus sutra and carefully read through the text again. ”I did that, and I did that, and that, and…well I didn’t do that.” he groaned as he found his mistake and took his stance again, this time he looked confident. All he had to do was produce, that’s it. The mantra was easier to memorize to him, just because it was longer and he had more to worry about than getting a few words wrong.

”Bishamonten, please give me strength, show me the way”

Ignazio prayed as he held the seal of Rin near the center of his chest and closed his eyes. The aura of his ghostly blue Qi appeared again and then the stature of Bishamonten appeared again in the same ghostly silver haze behind him. ”Un Bai Shiwarandai Sowaka” he canted as the aura turned into a sphere around his body. Unlike the last try, the sphere actually was solid. It was almost a complete replica from what the scripture spoke of, but it was different still; it was far from being perfect. ”Un Shishirokuri Sowaka” Ignazio continued the mantra as the field started to compress to a smaller orb, leaving his body forming in front of his hands. The sphere started to vibrate rapidly before sparks of energy flew off of its body. Un Bai Shiwarandai Sowaka, Un Shishirokuri Sowaka. Ignazio chanted again, the pitch in his voice was louder and the words were connecting faster, as his dictation was getting better. Soon the sphere shot itself into the air the circled around the ceiling before breaking into four different sectors. Un Bai Shiwarandai Sowaka Un Shishirokuri Sowaka! A barrier for the room, and circle it! he called out loud as the inner part of the circle began to rain down with a blue field; a barrier. It fell down and connected to the ground causing a blue artificial light to be cast from the dome created. Ignazio exhaled and held his form and opened his eyes as he completed the barrier.

Slowly lowering his arms he clapped his hands together and the field vanished. The aura around the library had vanished as quickly as it formed. Ignazio fell to his knees and leaned backwards to sit on his butt. He began to breathe heavily and found his face covered in sweat. Rubbing his brow line with his sleeve he cleared some of the sweat then started to laugh. “Okay, well that’s one down. Maybe I’ll rest a little before doing that again. I never felt so much energy being used out of my body before. That was more than a mental workout. ” he said almost gasping for air as he spoke. Ignazio leaned further back and laid on the floor to look at the ceiling. ”The Barrier Exorcism; whoever came up with this spell must had been crazy powerful. I’m pretty sure that means they only focused their talents in being an Aria rather than anything else. The mental exhaustion alone feels like it’s enough to kill you.”

[ ] Kenji Sakamaki [ ]

"I'm going to put a bullet through your skull and drain you dry."

Kenji seemed to have appeared somewhere behind Ignazio, if there were on-lookers they would guess he either arrived before the barrier was cast or as it was being cast. Kenji was a master of hiding his aura, being an assassin and all, and with Ignazio distracted by casting his barrier, he would hardly notice the slight change in the environmental Qi. Kenji was leaning against a bookshelf just behind Ignazio, with his shoulders rested against it, his head titled forward, and one leg propped up on the bookshelf behind him with the sole of his foot planted firmly on it. His arms were crossed as he watched the young exorcist trying to learn from Buddhist writings. Their team exam must have been coming up, and Kenji was surprised that more students didn't join their fellow classmate in trying to gain more spells and Qi before their exam began. However, Kenji knew there weren't students as dedicated as Ignazio. If they didn't get top marks, their parents would probably just tell them it was okay they've had a stressful year. Ignazio's father, however, well...Kenji knew first hand what would happen if Ignazio disappointed his father. It wasn't a sight anyone wanted to sit back and witness.

Kenji's right hand came out from underneath his left arm, since his arms were crossed, and he looked down at his fingernails. Well, his gloved fingernails. Kenji seemed to always be inspecting his gloves. A man's appearance was the first thing the anyone noticed. A well dressed man said wonders without ever opening his mouth. As Kenji inspected his gloved hand, he heard Ignazio hit the ground with a "thud". This made the corners of Kenji's mouth turn up into his menacing smile. He heard a second "thud" which must have meant that Ignazio was laying on his back now. Ignazio could probably see Kenji, since Ignazio was laying down now, or at least his feet, but only if he was looking as far up as he could. Kenji was still looking at his fingernails so he wasn't sure if the young Barthomeloi boy had noticed him yet or not. Surprising Ignazio was Kenji's favorite thing to do when he stayed at their place. "Well, well Ignazio. It's been far too long." Kenji said with a rather intrigued tone. He still hadn't looked up from his hand yet, but he knew that Ignazio was laying in the floor from the two "thuds" he heard. Kenji hadn't seen Ignazio for a few months, because he had been sent on a mission in New York City three months ago. The mission took longer than expected.

What brought Kenji to the library wasn't Ignazio, though if Ignazio the First had seen the scene he would assume it was. No, Kenji had decided to go to the Library for information. He had already dug up information about his targets thanks to the carelessness of the temporary headmaster. Kenji was an expert in Demonology, so he wasn't there to learn more about what he faced. He was there to check out articles that belonged to True Cross specifically, such as school newspapers, magazines, and other media either written about True Cross or by True Cross students. There was reasoning behind him needing those specific reading material, and soon his mission would truly start to heat up.

Rolling his neck back a little after he heard a familiar voice Ignazio’s vision was upside down. That’s when he saw the European tailored blazer, vest, pants, and tie. Ignazio knew exactly who this devilish man was, the very sight of him made his upside down face even frown. Ignazio pushed himself off of the ground with both his hands kicking his legs in the opposite direction allowing him to flop forward. Landing on both feet after his kangaroo leap; Ignazio fixed his shirt and tie then turned around to face Kenji with a piercing eyes, around the school they were known as Ignazio’s special technique ‘Tiger’s Eye’ a look that would bring any man to his knees from a single glance. ”Sakamaki. Did my father send you to check up on me again? You can tell him this, I’m not a child anymore, I don’t need a babysitter, I have the power to stand on my own two feet and one day I’ll have the power to defeat him and Lorelei.” Ignazio said before turning his head and heading back over to the books on the table. He wasn’t going to let Kenji distract him from completing the Barrier Exorcism. There was still on more part that he needed to learn in order to complete it, but that part was what frightened him the most, he didn’t know if he’d have enough Qi in order to manifest it.

Ignazio placed both hands on the table then turned and looked at Kenji before turning back to the table and grabbed the Lotus Sutra and started to read through the pages again. It wasn’t like a Grimoire that all you had to do was read from the pages and the magic would manifest itself through the words. Holy magic that Aria’s used was a little more difficult than that. It took faith, focus, a good memory, and a degree in Qi. Ignazio had most of these things but he wasn’t focused much on his faith, but he did believe in the mysteries of the world and he was a believer of demons so believing in Gods or God wasn’t something unheard of for him. His gut told him there was something out there he just didn’t know what.

”Shouldn’t you be in New York or something on assignment, does that old man even know you’re here? He’ll kill you if you didn’t report in. You do know that right?”

"I'm going to put a bullet through your skull and drain you dry."

Kenji smiled through Ignazio's cold shoulder and his famous stare. He had watched Ignazio grow up and knew the boy well. This was just how Ignazio was. He had to come off as pretentious and uncaring, as his family attitude was famous for. Ignazio was not like his father in a hundred different ways, but he did mirror the man from time to time. The sarcasm, the threats, the cold nature. Kenji was honestly surprised Ignazio didn't turn out worse than he was, living under a tyrant like Lord Barthomeloi. Though Kenji was Ignazio the First's right hand man, and probably only "friend" in the world, he didn't have to agree with his parenting styles. "Listen to you. Calling me Sakamaki...such a cold, cold boy." Kenji stared at Ignazio the whole time as he made his way back to the desk, making comments about Kenji here or there. It seemed as though he wanted to get back to his spell, and Kenji had no intention of distracting him, but why not bug his favorite exorcist while in town? He had been away for too long to allow Ignazio to go without annoyance.

Kenji moved quickly from the bookshelf, like a flash, until he was beside Ignazio. He moved so quickly some papers on the other table flew up, and one would think he teleported. He wasn't merely standing beside Ignazio, though. No no. Kenji was far too animated to stand still. His legs were planted firmly beside Ignazio, but he leaned his upper body over the table and up under Ignazio's arms. This way, when Ignazio was staring at his documents, he would now be looking at a Kenji torso sarcastically frowning up at him. He did this motion so quickly that Ignazio would see Buddhist scriptures and then "bam", Kenji face. As Kenji gave a puppy dog face of sorts, he began to plea with Ignazio. "What is this, say it aint so? The young Lord has grown out of being pleased to see me? What happened to my cute, baby faced prepubescent tween? Oh my heart..." Kenji then grasped his chest with his right gloved hand and made a grimacing face, as if he had suddenly had a myocardial infarction. He then slid his body off the table, out from under Ignazio's arms, and hit the floor on his knees, still grasping his chest. His head was down, hair falling in front of his face. He stayed like that for a good fifteen seconds, back to the Barthomeloi boy. What a drama queen.

Kenji's head then popped up, and his smile returned to his face. He jumped onto his feet quickly and turned towards Ignazio, wrapping his left arm around his neck and pulling Ignazio's body closer to his while his right hand was placed on his head. "Iggy, you know New York was child's play..." The hand that was on Ignazio's head then cupped Kenji's chin as he leaned his head weight onto the boy. "...though it did take longer than expected. New Yorkers are so rude and their bodies are so greasy. The food I had to choose from there wasn't pleasant. Not like the french men I had for dinner last year in France. Oh magnifique!" Kenji then raised his head up off of Ignazio and used his right hand to put his fingers together and kiss them with a "mwah" sound, to show that the food was good. He kept his hand placed on his Ignazio's head after that. He was smiling down at him, almost looking like a lion ready to devour the kill. "I'm not here for you, Ignazio. I'm here on a different mission. But how could I not say hello to my favorite up and coming?" Ignazio's smile was evil, or at least, it appeared evil. Kenji always had a lust for human flesh, so his desires to always be devouring people seemed to seep through his emotions. He would never hurt Ignazio, and he wasn't thinking about killing him. He had trained enough to suppress his urges best he could, but sometimes the evil of the rune came through his expressions and actions.

The dramatic actions of Kenji brought Ignazio to a slight annoyed face, which he got from watching his father over the years, it was kind of sad in a way. Ignazio was broken, as a human, he didn’t know how to smile when the time called for it nor did he know how to take a joke properly. Ignazio grabbed Kenji’s hand with his free hand and closed his eyes as he twirled himself from under the man and then tapped him on the head lightly with the book. ”A mission huh? So says the lustful vampire. You know people are starting to write about how Dracula lives and stuff now. You’re famous on the internet message boards.” he said before walking to the other side of the table and setting the lotus sutra down. The young boy looked at Kenji and couldn’t help but smile. Ignazio looked at Kenji with his golden eyes almost in a seductive manner but then turned away and looked at the books. ”Welcome back. I’m happy to see you unharmed; Kenji.” he said almost shy like but was still kind of cold about it in the tone of his voice. The young Barthomeloi yawned a little as he continued to look at the words in the book and then turned the page, the descriptions of a lotus flower and circulation of energy sounded familiar to him just like it did before but he didn’t know why. The sutra was extremely boring and mentally translating Sanskrit was a big pain in the butt. It wasn’t like something everyone could do, and it wasn’t his specialty either. Ignazio was barely able to do it without his dictionary which he left on the other side of the table with Kenji after fleeing the area afraid the vampire would touch him again.

”Hey Kenji, I have a question for you. Have you ever seen my father use any strange type of Aria before, such as, oh I don’t know a Barrier Exorcism with the power of Bishamonten?” he asked specifically as he continued to look at the book but slowly peaked up to see Kenji’s reaction to his question. It wasn’t something a normal person would ask when they see them for the first time in a few months. Shaking his head and chuckling Ignazio pushed his hair back, slicking it a little but it didn’t stay down due to the fact he didn’t have a lot of hair gel in his hair today. ”Forget about it; that was a random question. I guess I’m just talking out loud. You know all this studying tends to cloud the mind and judgment at times.”

[ ] Kenji Sakamaki [ ]

"I'm going to put a bullet through your skull and drain you dry."

Kenji blinked a few times behind his glasses when Ignazio bopped him on the head with a book. He did expect a response from the young Lord, but he didn't expect to be bopped by a book. He quickly regained his composure, back to his smile, as he watched Ignazio move away from him and back to his books. Ignazio was always buried in books. His father had instilled such a dictator attitude and work ethic in his son that Kenji wasn't even sure if Ignazio knew how to have fun on his free time. Though, it was always better to become stronger while others were off playing. During exams you could always take your enemies by surprise with new abilities. However, Kenji did wish he would lighten up from time to time. He used to be more energetic in his younger years, but of course Kenji would always get in trouble with the General of the Southern Flames for distracting his boy from his studies with "nonsense". Kenji never found video games to be nonsense, as that was his family business, but Ignazio the First was not the kind to try to never offend anyone.

Kenji crossed his arms across his chest as he stood straight and tall, almost matching the bookshelves near him in height. "Lustful vampire? Now what would ever make you think I'm lustful..." Kenji leaned a little forward and matched Ignazio's intense gaze with his own. Before Ignazio decided to turn away, Kenji gave him a small wink before standing up straight again. Ignazio never liked to stare at Kenji for too long, and his broken gazes never went unnoticed by Kenji. Of course, with all the books and scrolls he had laid out he obviously had better things to do then sit here and play mind games with Kenji.

When Ignazio openly admitted that he was glad Kenji was safe, the upper class exorcist would be lying if he said that didn't make him happy. Of course Ignazio's concern for him made him fill with joy, how could it not? Kenji was practically part of their family now, and he cared for Ignazio more than the boy probably knew. Kenji uncrossed his arms and held them out at his side with his shoulders slightly up, his elbows bent, and his palms flat facing the roof. "Of course I'm safe, Iggy. Nothing could ever kill me. I've survived your father, haven't I?" Unfortunately, it was true that if you could survive as Ignazio the First's right hand man, you could survive anything. His children could probably withstand one thousand times more. The man was as ruthless with his subordinates as he was with his own kids, even if he did call Kenji his "friend". Since Kenji had been a seasoned exorcist now, he didn't quite upset the man as much as he used to when he first started. Kenji often wondered if Ignazio knew that his father was just as rough with punishment to his underlings as he was to his own children. Nevertheless, without the tough leadership of his boss, Kenji wouldn't be the grade A assassin he was today. He had to thank his friend for that.

Kenji's right hand then raised to cup his chin again as he looked up to at the ceiling and thought. His left arm crossed his chest and his left hand stayed tucked under his armpit. He had to think about Ignazio's question, as Kenji and his father had not fought together for quite some time. Since one of the Arc Knight's passing, Ignazio's father had to pick up a lot more paperwork than field work, while Kenji was always out getting his hands dirty. "Possibly once before. It's been a awhile since we've had to fight together, and he rarely has to exert much energy against an enemy. He did have a strange barrier once when we were on a mission in Russia, but that was so long ago. I was twenty at the time, and you were only twelve. Do you remember when your father and I left you and your sister for Russia?" Kenji's head then lowered so he could stare at Ignazio, and his face was one of inquiry. He wasn't smiling anymore, as he was truly curious about Ignazio's question. It was an odd question, and Kenji knew that Ignazio didn't like to talk about his father often, because Kenji always liked to play the neutral ground. Kenji ignored Ignazio's request for him to forget about it, he was too intrigued now. However, he could not ignore the way Ignazio ran his fingers through his hair. There was subtle things that Ignazio did that made Kenji's heart flutter a little, but Ignazio didn't know it. "Damn him and his tiny, little acts..." Kenji had to be careful not to show too much emotion around Ignazio, or else his father would figure him out quickly and would surely have Kenji killed, if not both of them. "Why do you ask such a question?" Kenji added, as he wanted to know the sudden interest in his father's techniques.
