Jacques paused in their walk. He didn't feel the need to keep up the facade he had worn for so many years. This forest was familiar to him. There wasn't a single path that he had not tread here. Strangely, he missed it, missed the constant darkness. But in the dark, he could hold no power and so he had forsaken the forest that had raised him. "Well, my dear," Jacques said, smirking, "Is there anything you'd like to say? You don't need to worry about politeness or any judgement here. We are far from all of that."

Her eyes were calm as she stood there. "I have nothing to say." She spoke in a soft tone, after deciding she should probably say something to him. She stayed quiet as she waited for him to get angry at her for refusing to give him what he wanted. She knew he wanted her to confess to possessing magic. But she would die before admitting she was a witch.

Jacques tilted his head, smirking a bit. His eyes narrowed and he had a smug, knowing expression on his face. It was cute that she tried to deny him information. He wanted to applaud her effort but kept it to himself. This had been the most fun he had in ages. "You have nothing to say about the Shadow Man, even?" He was letting her know that he knew about the Shadow Prince. "It doesn't do to have a strange man in your rooms that is not your betrothed." Jacques said in a mock-chastising tone.

We both know the only reason I am marrying you is to avoid death in my home land." She said. She would not give him the satisfaction of getting under her skin. Mikari was a master at silence and at playing mind games. "I do not love you. The act you put on to calm your servants, and pretend to care for my well being is kind. But it will not make me love you." She was back to being silent. The darkness was welcoming, but her light magic was itching to be released. She knew better though. It would be her end if she used the magic.

Jacques chuckled, circling her. He brushed his hand along her lower back as he passed behind her. Even he could appreciate beauty. "I don't need you to love me. I don't even need you to like me. The act is not for you, my darling Mikari."He halted in front of her, so close they were almost touching. "But I will say this, I am the only one in this kingdom who will accept you as you are. Do you think I'm completely unaware? It is better to have me as an ally than an enemy."He began to walk away from Mikari then paused. "If you want to know what happens to my enemies, you should as your shadow companion."

You live in light, but even a mortal such as I can tell you are of blackest heart. And you wonder why I do not trust you enough to tell you my secrets. I am bound to my vow. I will not trust you until you show me a reason why I should." She said. She was tired of this. Her mind was clouded with anger towards his arrogance and she was beginning to feel sick. She needed rest and a dark room to sleep in.

Jacques chuckled, motioning for her to join him on the way back to the carriage. It didn't matter to him if she told him anything or not. He could always ask the Prince that he had stolen from. Still, it would be easier on her if she told him anything. Keeping secrets was so tiring. Once or twice he had thought of divulging his to the world but had settled with whatever wife he was married to. Despite all of the women he had married, Jacques had never loved any of them. He had slept with them solely for an heir to replace with himself. That was all. He didn't even have all that much interest in bedding them. That was also just a necessary means to an end. "Come along, Mikari, the carriage awaits. And, I must say, you look a bit under the weather." He laughed a little darkly at this.

She had taken a vow with her mother, one of blood and magic, before she had come to this land. She would tell no one of her powers unless they showed her a reason for her to trust them. The shadow prince had shown her his sadness. That was enough for her. She trusted him with her secret. The man she now walked beside was nothing like the Shadow Prince. She could smell the evil on him. It was disgusting. She would not let his life continue. She had to do what she could to help the Shadow Prince. He deserved to have his life back.

Dusk was falling as the reached the castle. Jacques had spent most of the ride back silent but smiling smugly. Despite the fact that Mikari clearly was not going to do what he wanted her to do, Jacques was satisfied. The fight in her made it worth it. Jacques was excited to see what would come of this situation.
One did not live as long as Jacques had without becoming as twisted as he. As long as he was alive and in power, everything else was up in the air.

Mikari went directly to her room once they returned to the palace. She changed into a pleasant black evening gown and put her long hair up in a curly ponytail. She brushed the ringlets to give them more bounce and sighed. She would skip dinner tonight, claiming she was ill. Anything so she didn't have to eat with that evil man. The darkness in his heart was unbearable and she would soon suffer death if she was not careful.

The Dark Prince had spent all day trapped in a woman's closet. This had been the second worse place he had been stuck in since he became unable to step into the light. The waiting was always the worse part of being stuck somewhere. But Prince Marco could feel the night coming and he could barely contain his impatience.
Marco had taken up residency in the far corner of the closet, letting the hours pass without taking notice of them. When the night fell, Marco was ready to leave but it was still not dark enough in the castle.
And then the woman came back and Marco was unsure of when to make his escape. She made no indication that she was going to leave the room again that night and Marco silently cursed.

Mikari took her leave of her room for a little while, just after dark. She was dressed in a simple black dress. Her heart was heavy as she found a window facing the direction of the dark forest. She stared out at the forest, wishing should could be there in the darkness. She wished to be free and use her magic but it was a dream that wouldn't come true. Footsteps behind her told Mikari that she had a subtle stalker.

Marco had not meant to follow the woman. Truly, Marco had every intention of returning to the dark forest where he was free to roam at any time of day but, by the time he realized it, Marco was following Mikari. He kept to the shadows like he always did but did nothing to quiet his steps. He was aware the she knew he was following her.
Marco could not explain what it was about Mikari but she called to him like the moon called to the wolves.

The darkness was welcoming and called to her soul. She thought of running away to the forest she had visited that day. It felt so much like home and she could feel a calling to go there. It seemed like a safe place to use her magic. She shook her head. "I could never escape this hell hole of light." She whispered sadly, a single tear falling from her eyes.

Prince Marco did not understand. This girl did not want to live in the light? The dark prince would give everything, even his life, to return back i=to the light. His cursed existence made that impossible.
Without thinking, Prince Marco called out to the girl, asking her, What is wrong with the light?"
