Elisa knew which one was more embarrassing ....as she put a hand over her face at the laughter of the man that was currently putting his Greninja though his paces.

"You are baby sitting, I see."

He would chuckle between fits of laughter at the antics of the Riolu. There weren't any children or pokemon that fit the guise of innocent here. NOrmally, a pokemon was well season and quite prep on the dangers of this place. So, that innocent sort of wonder and play was something that was completely out of place on the front lines. Yet, there was no complaints as he finally got his breathing under control.

"I needed a good laugh like that, Lit. Rose."

He would wipe at his eyes.

"So, who is the kid?"

He would finally ask as she would drop her hand at last.

"This is Raven, he is one of Barney's whelps."

The man would take a good look at Raven then.

"Our Barney, they let him around kids. I wouldn't expect they would be so innocent looking or our their pokemon would act so carefree. That man was a beastie here."

The man would comment sharply.

"The name is Erwin, I am ranked here as Corporal."

The man would do a quick wave of his hands, as his pokemon would smirk once at the Riolu and then look over at the trainer.

(Do you want to battle me?)

He would ask. The Greninja loved to fight, and he would fight anything that moved as a swift motion would drop from the sky as the Talonflame would land inbetween them with his wings arched protectively.

It was a cautionary tale from the bird. Afterall, they had challenged a 1st stage before and learned one truth about this place. The pokemon were level ...at their maximum point for evolution here. This place was too harsh for someone to capture a 1st stage pokemon that hadn't evolve on it's own that way, and food was too few ....that they had the comforts back home to gather the extra energy to evolve early. Everything here happen at it's own time, so what Raven saw ...was exactly what he would be facing.

The Talonflames hackles would raise as the Greninja would simply saluate.

(So, you wanna battle me instead)

He would clack his beak once.

Holding back wasn't something that the Talonflame knew how to do well, and they both knew it ...as the frog would just smile at the thought.

"Stand down, Darkwater."

Erwin would finally call out as the frog would grimace at that, and swiftly moved to his trainer's side.

"So, if the boy here to do some training? I could put him through his paces while you go and handle some other business for a while?"

He would offer at Elisa would shake her head.

"Sorry, he is my responsibility. I am pretty sure, you don't want to have Barney coming after your head if one of your pokemon got a bit out of hand."

The man would blush lightly.

"Ya'll probably right."

The man would give into a bit of a accent as he would turn away. He would turn away from the duo as he signal for his frog to follow. They were going to find something else to do for a moment ....another thing to practice to take his attention off of the little newcomer and his pokemon.

"So," Elisa would bring his attention back to her. "What do you want to do next?"

The barest wisp of flame seemed to flicker through Raven's eyes at the challenge, both from the trainer and it's Pokemon respectively; however when the Lieutenant intervened he shook his head briskly, banishing the thought from his mind. He'd failed to even defeat one of the dregs out here, it was beyond certain he didn't stand a chance against a ranking officer. There was testing one's limits, pushing beyond them in order to grow stronger...and then there was utter foolishness. Like a man attempting to face an rock-slide before he could crush a single boulder.

Instead the boy would raise a hand as the Corporal began his departure and pointedly noted "West has never actually met the Professor. Besides, he usually seems to be having a difficult enough time with his own Totodile without this one lending to the chaos..." Raven stated, muttering that last part more to himself as his gaze shifted back to the Riolu.

Unsurprisingly the Riolu had by this point abandoned his boulder bronco and resumed bouncing about the training area. During the exchange between the Water and Fire-Types he'd simply cocked his head, looking at the Corporal's Pokemon like someone had just told him it was an Onix when his eyes stated very differently. The confusion however, much like the Fighting-Type's attention span, would pass swiftly and without incident.

Instead the Riolu was now standing in front of a giant block of ice, knocking on the side of it with the back of his steel clad right paw ">Dis 'ere thin's colder than ah Milktank's teat!<" West exclaimed, darting about to the corners and other sides, repeating the knocking gesture each time. Given that he'd been birthed in a fairground, and left on a plot of wasteland, it was rather understandable the Riolu didn't know the first thing about ice.

Raven would quirk a brow. He hadn't seen such childish behaviour since...no, it wasn't the time for that. They were quite literally in the middle of a war zone, though not quite in the middle of open combat itself. Turning his attention to the Lieutenant, the young trainer would adjust the clasp of his cloak and would state his reply as if it were the obvious answer "What everyone does when they come to a Trainer Field. Try to grow that much stronger and increase my odds of survival by that barest fraction more."

((I would like to point out you keep calling it a Greninja, but given the comments of first stage and everstone shouldn't it be a Froakie?))

Elisa would chuckle lightly at his answer as she would walk slowly away from him and towards three different mechanisms. Her hand would caress each one lightly and she would walk around until she was facing him again.

"IF you want to train, then there is three ways to do this Accuracy, Strength, and Agility.

The first is though the accuracy training, that will require your pokemon's Sp. attack and for your pokemon to have a long range special attack."

The second one is the Strength training, and you can guess that will requires your pokemon's strength and your pokemon will have a game of shatter the bricks to test it, so a physical attack is required.

The last one is simply a game of skipping rope, so it deals with your pokemon's speed and your pokemon needs to have the ability to grip something the rope. So, something with hands, claws, or paws that is a bit flexible.

"So, what do you want to do first?"

She would declare with a big grin on her face as she waited for Raven's answer.

Raven would close his eyes, his brows knitting together as he began to contemplate the various modes of training available to him. Arms raising slowly the right would rest on the left as he began to stroke his chin, a habit he'd picked up by imitating the gesture during his childhood. Precision was important when attack. A fist could crack a boulder more effectively than a hammer if you applied force in the right spot; or more simply a strike to the heart dealt more damage than one to the shoulder, the distance between the two being a relatively small fraction.

Strength however was also important. When one lacked the skill for finesse, the head for planning, or the proper equipment, simple brute force can solve a problem if you use enough of it. Squeeze hard enough and somethings bound to crack.

Lastly one couldn't neglect the importance of speed. Precision was useless if you find yourself unable to act on a chance swiftly enough. Strength applied quickly was harder to divert or dissuade. Speed however...

">Th'ah don't call meh ther fastest paws in dah west fir nothin' padner!<" A certain Riolu would certain cry out, darting between the two trainers and waving his arms excitedly as he jumped up and down, clearly attempting to turn their eyes toward him ">Jus gimmeh ah chance padner n' Ah'll show ya'll what ah keen do!<"

Stifling a smile and trading it for a smirk, Raven would arch a brow as he watched the Riolu bounce around "Well then I do believe that solves the issue doesn't it?" The boy stated, the question clearly a rhetorical one. If it was a choice between strength, precision, or speed, the last would always win out in West's eyes. It was fine, the Riolu lacked a proper attack for the accuracy practice anyway, and the Riolu needed the most 'real world' experience.

Grey Moonfang IV

Skipping Rope Training:

To skip the rope, you have to roll a 1d20 and add the pokemon's speed to the number count.

Each time the pokemon jumps, the number needed to successfully make it over the rope increases by 2. The starting number is 20. If the pokemon fails to make it over the number, they get tangled up in the rope and it ends.

"So, I see you found something that interests you. Well, get at it, and good luck."

The woman declares with a smirk on her face. She had her hands crossed as she waited to see what was going to happen as she looks over at Raven himself.

"Maybe, after this is finished, I should see how well you wield your own personal weapon."

She actually teased.

"I imagine significantly better than someone who has never wielded a blade" Raven stated calmly as he collected an appropriately sized skipping rope and handed it off to West "Although I can't deny it was been a number of years since I partook of formal instruction or practice." Raven was quite certain his old Sword-master would have quite a few choice words for him at this point. The man had been unrelenting in his training, though not to the point of cruelty.

">Pracdice is impordant! Godda make sure ya'll keen do thah thin'!<" West yipped as he took either end of the rope in his paws and gave it an experimental wriggle ">This here thin' is lahke ahn Ekans without thah head!<" The Riolu barked excitedly, whipping the skip rope down and then up and over his head. Leaping in time with the swing of his arms it would seem the little Fighting-Type was going for a reverse jump.

15 + 14 = 29 > 20 = success

New number: 22

Exp gained: 29

The first turn would go successfully as the Riolu would skip over the rope as it loops once below him, and then aims to go over. The rope would beep in his paws as the swing despite what West might have planned would come down a bit faster.

It would accelerate every time that he successfully made the twirl.

The lieutenant's eyebrow would raise a bit at Raven's answer.

"So, you are rusty?" "That won't do ...."

The serious face was back again as she looks upwards at the sky.

"You don't get rusty on the frontline, if you don't practice your skills, they fail when you need them, and if they fail ...you die."

She said the words seriously.

Elisa wasn't happy about his answer at all as she crosses her arms. She was expecting a bit more of an arrogant answer, but, she wasn't going to complain about it. She wasn't going to ruffle his feathers over it either. If he is rusty, then she would simply polish off that rust.

The woman had no plans to send back home a body bag to Barney.

"Out of formal practice and out of general practice are too highly different things" Raven stated, retaining his usual calm demeanor though he failed to look the woman's way as he spoke "Text book, while having it's place does not always belong in the midst of more dire circumstances; and while my form may not be what it once was, I assure you my blade has seen frequent enough use...especially in recent weeks." Certainly an accurate statement, especially given the boy's penchant for racing in blade first even before he acquired the signature "ability" of his class.

">Ya'll nitter natter lahke ah buncha ole' ladies onna porch!<" West pipped in as he continued to skip over the rope, apparently not in the least be distressed that it was no longer subjecting to the exact motions of his arms. He simply continued to do his best to leap over it with the speed of a Zangoose and the precision of a Seviper!

(15 + 6 = 21 < 22 = failure)

"Out of practice ....my dear is out of practice."

Elisa would declare as she saw the miscalculation of his Riolu. The rope's acceleration would trip him, and she only looked away after the end results.

"You can call it formal or general. If you aren't at your best, you aren't at your best and that out here will get you killed ...not should."

"For example, even though my Talonflame is watching the skies, he is too far away to save me if trouble arise, and if my reflexes are too slow ...he will only be diving to his death in an effort to save me. I have to be able to protect myself at all times, and at the last slow down an attack on me."

"Though, maybe, that is a discussion best shown than discussed."

She would gesture with her chin towards Raven's Riolu.

"Your pokemon seems to have tripped up a bit, do you want to spar with me for a moment, or do you want to go ahead continue to train, or do you want to do a little bit of recon beyond the gates."

She crossed her arm as she waited for his answer.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 19, 2014 5:46 pm

Raven quirked a brow as he spoke "I would point out that my circumstances are a tad different from your own, but doubtless this would fail to alter your opinion." Releasing a breath the boy would slip his left hand from the pommel of his weapon and half draw the weapon "As for the suggestion of sparring. While I am doubtless outmatched, and West could certainly use the training, opportunities like these come infrequently, and as it would happen Humans don't gain experience as easily as Pokemon."

">Ah think thad means yes mam<" West chipped in as he extracted his face from the inch deep impression he made in the ground. He might not be nearly as fast as he chose to state, but he certainly had a hard head!

"Really?"

Elisa would literally ask the Riolu. She was a bit confused on his answer, but West seemed to make it a bit clearer as she would reach to her side and draw what seemed to be a saber. The blade is curved and shimmers a bit darkly as she smiles at Raven as she takes the blade and rotates it once.

"So, do you want to do this with pokemon assistances or without?"

She asked.

If she had gotten the wrong answer, Raven probably should hurry up and clarify as the woman would give a gentle smile that looked more predatory than anything else.

"While the assistance of Pokemon would no doubt make this a much more interesting, if doubtlessly short sparring session, given your earlier statement I believe it would be wisest to do without. My Pokemon won't always be so close at hand, but even rendered sword-less I can still use a stick" A bit of an exaggeration on the fine point, but a stick was still better than defending oneself barehanded. Wood was generally stronger than human bones, and it was less of a problem if it broke.

">So yer not gonna do thah thin' with all thah purple fire? Id was awful purddy!<" West said, drawing closer to the pair after having discarded the rope for the moment since it seemed the use of it was on hold.

Elisa would simply tip her weapon up at his words. She would actually shift her stance so that her weapon seemed to rest almost on her finger tips instead of being gripped tightly.

A falcon's screech would be heard overhead as her Talonflame's shadow would flash over their heads as he circled. It was a show to remind everyone that he was still around ....as she stood lightly on the heel of her feet.

"Decision made ....let's go."

Elisa was ready to fight and though she did shift her stance a bit as she remembered that she wasn't suppose to kill anyone at that moment. She simply made it a point to turn it where it was the side of the blade instead of point that was aimed at Raven.

Shifting his stance Raven would pull his sword completely the from the scabbard, moving the hand-and-a-half sword into a double handed grip and pointing it in front of him at an angle. When he saw the woman move into a defensive position however he would bolt forward, bringing the sword low; but instead of heading directly at her he would shift his weight to the left, tucking and rolling before coming back up and swinging the flat side of the blade in a strike meant to slap across the hip. It was one of many things his former instructor had done often to reprimand him for a poor defense.

Meaning, West rather than sitting quietly upon the sidelines, would shout and yip, swinging his hat about over head as he called out ">Raven Raven! He's our...boy?....man?...trainer? TRAINER! If'n he keen't do it no one's...a container?<" A member of the Nimbasa Bouffalant Cheerleaders the Riolu was not.

The move would actually catch her lightly on the hip as she would growl lightly and then ....simply rock her hand backwards towards his face. The requirement to hit her on the hip meant he had to get in close, and she knew how to handle that as he let the blade slide backwards out of her hand the hilt would actually zero in on his nose.

It was a move that looked like she was throwing away her weapon except that the blade had a scarf wrapped around it's hilt. This was what she was going to grab as she let it slip past in a move that meant to draw a bit of blood if she allowed it to hit against his face.

A quick response and scolding for using his blade in such a matter.
