But Sherry liked Jake. Sure he was a grumpy butt and all, but she could like that, too. As for the rest, well, there was a reason Armagnac hated him so much. But it was the past. They had started over, started fresh, almost entirely. Jake didn’t remember any of it, and Sherry had already forgiven him for everything she could remember that needed forgiving. In some ways, she was just as stubborn as Jake was, really.
Once this was over and he suggested more titan hunting, one could be sure it would be Sherry’s turn to be grumpy. Running defense was tough work, and while she didn’t mind it, breaks were nice. Not dying was nice. And really, if Jake didn’t have the energy to fight back when she berated him about it, he shouldn’t have the energy to go jumping on giant monsters.
At least, that was how Sherry saw it.

Apparently being stubborn was an endearing quality. He did not know this, and probably would never if Sherry didn't straight out tell him, and if he knew... well, it wouldn't really change anything, except embarrass him. Even with holes in his memory, he still did wonder how he came to have Sherry as a girlfriend. She was smart, mature, caring, and, well, nearly the polar opposite of him, and he always thought that he seemed more of a kid to her, not just in age but personality-wise. No one in their right mind would want him. Chester... well, Chester was special, and he supposed there wasn't really anything he could do about it, considering weapon bond and all.
Poor Sherry. He really did need to make it up to her after this.

Oh, the things Jake and Armagnac agreed on. So many things, yet there was so much hate in that relationship. It was a good thing Sherry was there to buffer it, even if it was mostly a one-sided hate that wore Sherry down from time to time. But that was between her and her weapon, who at the moment was going on about how it would not be a tragedy if Jake were suddenly eaten or stepped on. Sherry rolled her eyes at that.
Maybe she was a little bit blind, since liking someone as much as she like Jake could do that, but Sherry didn’t think he was as bad as he said he was, and certainly not as bad as Armagnac constantly told her he was. He was smart about lots of things, and brave, stubborn, loyal, and he most certainly could be caring. He hid that nice streak in his heart, but it was rather wide, and Sherry knew it. Sure, maybe she’d put up with more from him than she should have, but she didn’t care. It was in the past, and now…now she was happy.
She would also not turn down any sort of ‘compensation’ for helping him with this. Even if it was just hugs and cuddles.
But first thing was first. “To the right again! Keep an eye on that one over there!” This particular titan was still up and moving, and the really needed to deal with that first.

All the compensations. He had a feeling it would take a bit to appease her with the constant trouble he was putting her through, whether it be constant spars or titan hunting. As it were, he didn't think he was ready for HH missions for quite some time, let alone EM missions. Perhaps it would have been less trouble if he was trampled on. Less worry, less hassle, and their lives were short anyways. But he had promised not to give up, and always did his best to keep his word.
Hearing Sherry, he nodded, working on immobilizing the titan some more. Even if the cables were secure, if they didn't weaken it enough, it was pointless.

To be fair, Sherry didn’t feel like she needed any sort of compenstation. She’d agreed to help, and that’s what she was doing. It wasn’t the type of thing that needs compensated for. She was just happy to help. (Until such time that she found out he planned to do this until he dropped. At which points she’d still be happy to help, but she’d likely worry a bit more.) Besides, this way she could watch his back, since Jake getting trampled would have been a very, very sad affair. Not even Armagnac wanted that- if only because Sherry would cry so damn much.
So, Sherry was still doing all she could to make sure they both made it out alive. “How’s your shield holding up?” she called, knowing full well he’d been hit more than once by the randomly sparking electricity flying around on the beasts back. “You’d best let me know before it gets too low!”
This was Jake they were talking about. And one of his greatest faults was keeping things like shield levels under wraps, like he might be imposing or seen as weak if he asked for help. Which was silly. Sherry hadn’t brought the bandages for her own sake, after all.

It was a good thing she thought that, because he was planning on cutting down their naps and cuddles, if but temporarily. He was running out of time, and he knew Sherry would object, but with only several days left until his time was up, he had little choice, and it was highly improbable he'd get an extension, given all the second chances he had already got. It was only a little bit more, and though he did find himself doubting at times, he believed this would help him, bit by bit, hopefully. Not to mention it was probably a good perk to upgrade their Titan gear to take down the titans even faster, and the prospect of a reverse pendant sounded nice. He really did need to treat Sherry out after all this.
Speaking of which, he gave her a thumbs-up, indicating his shield was still good, and pulled out the hand torch. Perhaps something to quicken this a little.

She was fine with cutting back on naps, they could discuss cutting back on other things later. Of course she would object, but she'd be less prone to doing that if she knew what kind of time limit Jake was running on.
To be honest, Sherry would be happy with a simple 'thank you' and perhaps a kiss, as long as they both lived through everything. She was a simple girl when it came to things like that.
And when it came to defense. But that was pretty straightforward. Watch and keep on top of things. She could handle it. Things would be just fine, as long as Jake asked for help when he needed it. She knew he had an issue with that, for some reason, so she made a point of watching him close as she could.

Jake was never very good at displays of affection, public or not, so the fact that he was actually in a relationship baffled him a bit, not to mention Sherry was a rather touchy-feely person at times, but it wasn't something entirely unpleasant. New and strange at times, yes, but he couldn't deny that it was nice to be doted on and pampered at times, and Sherry gave some killer massages. Though, perhaps he should be the one spoiling Sherry instead. Wasn't that how relationships usually worked? Oh, still so much to learn.
It was true Jake often liked to keep his pride intact, no matter how detrimental it may be to his wellbeing, but after all that had happened because of it, he was learning a bit of humility. A bit. At least enough to let Sherry know when he needed help, but he did have bandages himself, so all was good... for now.

Sherry had a fair amount of things to learn, too, when it came to relationships, especially of the romantic sort. She did know she’d be as touchy-feely as Jake let her (and she was a bit surprised he let her be so much sometimes), and she knew she liked spoiling him. It made her happy, so she did it.
There was enough time for unpleasant tasks. Which was likely why Titan hunting wasn’t that bad. It could be bodies in the Sahara… or… or… something twinged on the edge of her memories. Something she couldn’t quite reach.
Sherry shook her head, pushing whatever it was away. Not now. She had a titan and a death trainee to keep an eye on. Which was not quite as easy as it seemed at times. "Jake! Careful!" The Titan might have been trying to move again.

Why couldn't the damn thing just stay still? Jake grumbled as he shifted his stance, feeling his FEAR shield sizzle as it brushed against one of the electric spikes. Then again, putting himself in the titan's shoes (not that they really wore such things), he supposed he wouldn't like it much if some tiny pest was runnin around on top of him poking him with what he supposed were like toothpicks, at least compared to the titan's size. Wait, why was he even comparing himself to a Titan? This was ridiculous. All he knew was that they were condensed Insanity or something, formed into a tangible creature that proved a formidable foe and dangerous if left alone for a long period of time. It still irked him that there was no permanent way to get rid of them, only able to weaken them enough just to dissipate. So frustrating.

Sherry might have giggled at Jake’s musings, though she would have agreed it was a pain to know they couldn’t fully destroy these things. To be fair though, it wasn’t home without some kind of strange insanity floating around. Or monsters, or something. It was just annoying because these things were so big and loud. It wasn’t even save to go running around on the beach these days, which was sad. Not that she planned to go swimming, but still. The beach itself was usually nice enough.
These darn titan beasts put a dent in that little pleasantry. No, the only time Sherry had been down to the seaside lately had been to hunt, and that always ended with her anchoring something to the ground, running defense, and then running for her life. But it could be worse, she reminded herself.
“Just a bit more!” They just had to hang on for a little bit longer. Just a little, hopefully. Then this beast could take a nap or whatever it was they did after dissipating.

It really was a pain, and though he supposed a temporary solution was better than none, it still sucked that they'd have to do this over and over again with very little results. While he felt a little less hostility towards Halloween students (only some. The aggressive ones were a pain in the a**), there were still the horsemen. He knew dissipation must have been painful to some degree, kind of like one of them being sent to an infirmary, but it wasn't a permanent solution. All it did was piss them off and make them come back with a vengeance. It was almost a shame that hunters weren't immortal, but he supposed their mortality was the only thing human left of them. Even now, he wasn't sure if he could call himself a human being.
Sherry's voice pulled him out of his thoughts, and he nodded. Just a bit more. Then there was the matter of getting OFF the Titan and away unscathed. Though first, he should probably stop getting distracted.

Not getting distracted would be a very good thing. Anything to help keep them alive. Which Sherry was very much trying to do right then. It was funny to think about it, but if someone had told her a couple of years ago that she’d be running defense and heals while her partner fought a giant beast that rivaled Godzilla, she would have laughed and said something along the lines of, ‘Sounds like fun. But utterly ridiculous.’ Beasts like that hadn’t existed and she certainly wasn’t capable of helping fight them, not in the reality that had been hers at that time.
But that was the old life. In the new life, well, this was not too bad, and not the toughest thing they’d had to deal with. “Left, Jake! Up there to the left!”
At least with a beast this big, one could see most of the blows coming. That certainly made things a little bit easier, and Sherry was grateful for that.

While its size definitely made its movement easier to read, as well as make it an easier target to hit (most of the time), it also meant it'd take much longer to dissipate, not to mention he still had to avoid the sparking land mines on its back. Even with a temporary FEAR shield, gettin electrocuted was never fun, and a visit to the infirmary even less so.
But alas, the life of a hunter was never easy, and while he had considered taking on one of the smaller titans for a change of pace, he had heard the possibility of them dropping fragments wasn't as high, and he really didn't want to go through fighting several only to come out empty-handed. If anything, fighting something larger and knowing for sure it'd end up dripping something was better.
He turned to his left as instructed, but instead of attacking, only stared at the spike, feeling slightly fatigued. Just a bit more...

She saw the way he moved, and she trusted him to make good decisions about whether he attacked or not. Not that she always understood, but she knew her point of view was a bit limited at the moment.
“Hang in there! Keep it up!” Encouragement was always a good thing. “Keep your eye on that spike! I think we only have to keep this up for a little bit longer!” They almost had this beast, she knew it. The runic gear would kick in any moment now. Sherry tossed it all another look, then let her gaze settle in Jake’s direction. “Keep hitting it! You’ve got it!”
And then they’d have to run. Sherry wasn’t really looking forward to that part, in all honesty.
