"No." Peyton tapped at her headset as it flickered in and out. "No, no, no. Come on." A few more words, nothing coherent, then it cut out again completely, and Peyton looked up at Heidi and shook her head. They were on their own, at least for now, and they had two kids they needed to keep safe.
Evan would save Tuck, and the boys would take care of each other. That's what she had to believe. It was somewhat startling to realize she gave a s**t what happened to Evan, and not just because loosing a man would make survival all t more difficult. That was a worry for another day though, when things weren't shuffling undead emerging from the fog on all sides. Shuffling and, Peyton was horrified to realize, skittering.
It didn't help with the kids they were trying to lead through the woods suddenly dug their heels in and began speaking in unison. "Who's coming?" It was an automatic question. She wasn't sure she wanted to know the answer.
As the figures began to shuffle into view, insectoid legs emerging from their chests, Peyton was absolutely certain she didn't want to know the answer. "Heidi.." The Sun dropped the little girl's hand, but moved so she was blocking the tiny figures from view of the advancing horde. Well, as much as she was able.
She also summoned Warrick.
