Leonette was surprised that David didn’t have a problem with Mira. Though, he certainly didn’t have to live with her. At David’s come back to her statement Mira fell silent. He had a point, a point she couldn’t counter. That bothered her to some degree. So she was right… Mira smiled as she looked at her sister. Leonette blushed at David’s answer. It was still hard for her to believe she could get him to try something out of his comfort zone. “I had a feeling she did.” Mira stated more or less to herself.

Grace had noticed since last summer that Leonette certainly had a liking towards her Ravenclaw friend. Something told her he didn’t know that yet which would only fuel Mira into bothering her even more about it. All three sister’s looked at David when he said they could us the kitchen if they so choose. “Thanks David.” Leonette said with a smile. “Yeah that would be great.” Grace replied happily. She unlike her sister’s didn’t know her mother but she was certainly told all about her.

When David tossed the cookies out Leonette looked over at him curiously. Before Grace could beat her to it she decided to ask. “Your mom, make those?” she asked. Grace looked from David to Leonette and wondered what was so bad about his mother baking cookies. “Does your mom not know how to bake?” Grace asked curiously. Why would anyone throw out cookies?

“Okay, moving away from killer cookies… what’s left on this tour?” Mira asked half interested and half not.

David almost sighed with relief when he was able to silence Mira with technicalities and he raised a brow first at Leonette's reaction to him admitting that she had some influence in his decision to pick up the piano and then Mira's simple statement about having already assumed as much between his decision and her sister's influence. She was probably as meddlesome as Cathy was who had made it quite clear she wasn't ignorant of his attraction to Leo. He still couldn't figure out if her statement about it being 'cute' was disturbing or not. At least it quieted Wendy for a moment.

He shrugged off the mention of the kitchen and chuckled when Leo asked about whether it was his mother who made the cookies and he nodded, "If anything mom's cooking is getting worse. Thankfully at the moment, Dad actually has decided to order catering and probably will for at least the next seven or eight months. And, I think in theory Mum isn't horrible at baking if she actually used magic in cooking, but I've never actually seen her do so. I wouldn't to tell the truth."

He shrugged as he led the way out of the kitchen and up the stairs and said, "There is the second and third floor. The second floor has two bathrooms connected to the hall, my sister's room, my room, and a guest room. The third floor is where the master suite is but more relevant would be the two other guest rooms there and Dad's office which is free for use generally. The fourth floor is Mum's art studio but that is only accessible through my parent's room."

Stopping at the landing of the second floor he shrugged, "It is just bedrooms and an office at this point. There isn't much variation in it. Though, Cathy did say all of you were free to use her room. She does have a decent personal library-though I think over half isn't actually in English. If there is anywhere in particular all of you want to visit first that is fine, but like I said it isn't that exciting. It might make more sense just to pick a guest room at random and just settle in."

That sure did sound like David’s mom. “Well that’s good. Although I hope your mom doesn’t read into that.” Leonette said with a smile. “How can someone’s cooking get worse? It should get better shouldn’t it?” Grace questioned. “Gracie.” Leonette said as she rubbing her sister’s head. “What?” she said as she fixed her hair. Mira tried her hardest not to roll her eyes. ‘Why does she get nice treatment for asking questions and I get nailed in the head for it…?’ she thought as they headed for the stairs.

Grabbing their stuff along the way, the three girls followed David up the stairs. Upon listing all that was left to see all three were thinking the same thing he was. Mira was the first to speak up about it though. “Please point me in the direction of the darkest guest room you have.” She said really liking the idea of having her own space for the next couple of days. Granted she could have had the whole house to herself. Oh well…

Before Leonette could ask her youngest sister where she wanted to be she felt a sneeze coming on. Oh she hoped a cat wasn’t around… Something told her she wasn’t that lucky though. The next thing she knew she was sneezing. “Leo, are you okay?” Grace asked curiously. “Yeah…” she said before sneezing again. “Someone forgot…” Mira started before getting whacked again. “Owe!” Mira practically yelped as she glared at her sister. “I’m fine.” She said looking to Grace who seemed to be scanning the area for the source… which happened to be a cat…

"Mum has a lot on her plate at the moment," David answered with a sigh at Grace's question. When Mira asked about the darkest guest room, David chuckled and said, "Dark? Nothing here would be exactly classified as that. The closest we have, beyond my own room, is the guest room on the third floor next to Dad's study..."

He trailed off, leaning against the wall and letting out a sigh. If Mira wanted dark guest rooms she'd have to look towards the Avery Manor-he wasn't entirely sure about the decor of his father's childhood home considering he never actually spent a night there. He glanced over when he heard a sneeze and heard Grace ask Leo if she was okay before Leo broke into a sneezing fit when Mira started to say something before getting whacked by Leo and her saying she was fine. Grace spotted the cat Tristan who was walking down the stairs from the third floor who eyed them fairly suspiciously.

David sighed and narrowed his gaze at Leo and said, "You do realize my Dad got a medical degree from one of the best schools in the United Kingdom to study medicine before he went into his surgical training? If I don't buy the 'I'm fine', Dad won't." He added crossing his arms.

With a sigh he glanced at Mira deciding she was the best to ask, since Leo and Grace didn't seem nearly as frank about things amiss, and he pulled out his phone, asking, "So, what did she forget? Dad's clinic is technically cosmetic surgery but it isn't like he or the other surgeons aren't qualified doctors. Muggle medicine, of course, but that's what we've always turned to first. Depending on the condition Leo probably can get something temporary at the very least, especially if she was seen. It's easier to get it handled quickly than wait on it."

“Oh…” Grace said feeling suddenly bad for his mother. “I’ll take it.” Mira said happily. At this point Grace was trying her best to find any cats. Sure enough she spotted Tristan, the darker cat of the two. ‘She didn’t tell him…’ she thought. It was either that or she didn’t take her allergy medication. “You have cats.” Grace stated before watching Mira get whacked stopping her from talking.

Leonette looked at David wishing he hadn’t gotten suspicious. It wasn’t a big deal, so she had an allergy, loads of people had them. “You might have mentioned it.” She said sheepishly. “It’s nothing really.” She tried to sound less like she was hiding something, and more like she just didn’t want him worrying about it. However her persistent sneezing wasn’t helping.

Heading for her escape, Mira was stopped by David. She just got whacked for trying to say anything what made him thing she’d try doing it again? Looking over at her sister Mira decided the look she was giving off was worth telling. “She forgot to take her medication.” She answered getting the biggest death glare from the Gryffindor in the room. “She never mentioned she’s allergic to cats, did she?” she asked curiously.

Leonette looked at Mira and then over at David. “I meant to tell you, it just didn’t seem important.” She told him honestly trying not to sneeze. Why’d Mira have to tell him? Grace listened to the whole scene in front of her before looking to her oldest sister. “Leo, you remembered your medication right?” she asked her curiously. “Yeah…” she paused sneezing again. “It’s somewhere in my stuff, I think.” She finished. God she hoped so…

She couldn't have been so careless to have forgotten her medicine as well as forgetting to mention an issue with cats?

"No, she didn't," David sighed, massaging his forehead. He glanced to Mira and said putting away his phone, "Thank-you."

He thought on the whole situation, it was unlikely the allergy was life threatening, because no matter what the reasons were for not mentioning it David couldn't picture someone flat out lying about something like that, especially considering it was never exactly a secret his family had cats.

"Well, if it didn't seem important it shouldn't be that serious of an allergy, correct?" He said to Leo finally after she answered Grace about her medication. "Anyways the cats generally stay on the third floor and are there at least in the evenings. Grace? Mira? If you two aren't allergic if you could round Tristan and Tara up and tell them to stay upstairs for now that would be great. They do listen to most people so you shouldn't have a problem with them."

He let out a long sigh and glanced at Leo and said, "I can't imagine why you wouldn't think mentioning an allergy to cats didn't seem important... Hell, Dad's had them since they were kittens-he had them even before he met Mum-or more accurately ran into her again." Shaking his head he said, "So, how serious is the allergy? And, please tell me you have a good reason for lying about being allergic to cats of all things and deciding to come to a house where there is at least two cats at any time and if Cathy was here there would be three."

“Yeah, no problem...” Mira said pushing it off as nothing more than her burning her sister. Boy did she love rocking the boat with her, especially when it came to her sister’s friends. “No, it’s not serious just annoying.” Leonette replied. Why did she feel like David was unimpressed? Honestly, she’d admit she wasn’t sneezing as badly as she usually did. That surprised her just a bit. Her cousin’s cat was by far the worst she’d been near. Hearing what David had to say Grace was all over it, Mira probably not so much. “Will do! Come on Tristan time to go upstairs and leave David and Leo to sort things out themselves.” She said happily. “I’ll go find Tara…” Mira said dreading trying to find the second cat in the house. How hard could it be to find a cat anyways?

Leonette knew for a fact that David wasn’t happy with her. She probably couldn’t blame him. Waiting for her sisters to disappear out of sight before answering him she really didn’t want her sisters to know. “It’s not bad my eyes itch and I tend to sneeze it’s not life threatening, I promise.” Leonette told him hoping he’d believe her. “David… I… I didn’t lie, I just didn’t tell you.” She spoke her voice wavering. Leonette had honestly never felt this bad about anything in her life. Well, aside from the obvious. “I just really wanted to spend time with you. You offered a place to stay and I took it. Had I taken my medication this morning like I was supposed to you probably wouldn’t even have known.” She explained not trying to come off sounding desperate to see him so soon after the school year. Truth was she really wanted to spend as much time as she could with a very special friend.

Meanwhile, Grace was happy to be helping out. Watching Tristan as she went up the stairs she was happy when she got to the top. Figuring she'd better claim her room, she found the non-dark one and took up residence. Leaving her room Grace scanned the floor for Tara but came up empty handed. Instead she found the study and with it books. 'David said it was free to use...' she thought walking in and over to the bookshelves. Before long she was sitting in the room with a book in her lap reading quietly. Mira didn't need help finding Tara, now did she?

Speaking of Mira, she was searching the main floor for the feline known as Tara. "Tara." she called out quietly, like she cared if her sister suffered. At least she was doing something constructive, right? 'I wonder what's going on between my sister and that guy... would I ever love to be a fly on the wall right now...' Mira thought before locating the white cat. "Hey Tara, you need to go up stairs to the third floor. Unless you want my sister to suffer, I'd be alright with that." she spoke to the cat. 'Boy do I ever feel stupid I'm talking to a cat...'

"Thank-you," David said curtly to Grace and Mira. Once her sisters were on the hunt for both of the cats, Leo began talking and quickly trying to explain the situation and how minor the allergy is. He was annoyed, it was evident, he was half tempted to snap and then finally sighed as he walked down the hall some away from the stairs. Pausing he turned around and let out a long sigh, "Omissions are just as much lying as anything else."

"Then again, I can't exactly talk: the entire foundation of my family has been generations of lies and manipulations and threats," David said. "I'll say this once if you intend to lie or forget to mention things at least learn how to cover your tracks. You say I wouldn't even have known about the allergy if you had taken your medicine properly? And why did you forget to take the medicine. If you had I wouldn't have known, right?"

He leaned against the wall and let out a long sigh, "I shouldn't have made the offer for you or your sisters to stay. Especially when I got back from the Main Avery Estate. It was selfish and reckless of me. I'm sorry. I won't make the mistake of letting what I want, such as spending time with you, cloud my better judgement again. If you can't figure out how to lie well and chose to lie... well we... I... it's not a smart move. Sorry." He ended with a frustrated sigh and glancing away turning red with embarrassment.

"Uh, anyways, do you know if you have your medicine? Might as well let you and your sister's enjoy what the area has to offer since you are already here, right?" He said uncomfortably.

Leonette froze at David’s words. Needed to cover her tracks? She didn’t want to be good at hiding things from him. David was her friend and she wasn’t going to be like… like his family was. She took pride in being a Gryffindor and remaining loyal to her friends. “I didn’t mean it like that… I had a lot on my mind and I forgot. I wasn’t trying to hide it, it’s just my cousins have cats I thought I’d be fine… that, it wouldn’t be a big deal.” Clearly she was very wrong.

Walking down the hall after him, Leonette’s heart shattered. What was he saying? It sounded to her like she was losing her closest friend. Leonette wanted to say something… anything, but nothing came out of her mouth. However, when he suddenly changed the subject to her having her medication she was finally able to speak. “David, what are you saying…?” she asked sounding rather hurt. “… And don’t change the subject on me.” She added her eyes watering although, she didn’t know if it was because of her allergies or because she was actually tearing up.

“Don’t do this to me…” Leonette started to say her voice wavering. “I don’t want to lose my best friend…” That’s about when she realized she may actually be fighting back tears. “Don’t you dare apologize to me for this…” Suddenly after a moment of silence her hurt turned to more or less frustration. “You want me to learn to lie? What if I don’t want to lie to you, David?” She asked him honestly completely ignoring the stray tears that fell from her eyes. Part of her was mad but the other part was just plan hurt by his words.

A look of panic crossed David's face as he realized Leo was crying. He stared completely at a loss what to say so instead he bluntly spat out, "I... I asked my grandfather a few days ago to disown me and my parents and my sister. Instead my grandfather made me conditional second heir of the Avery family."

"And no. I'm saying if you can't lie don't," David spat out frustrated before falling silent and stood there, fists clenched and closing his eyes taking a long breath. "I am saying what I am because I..." He paused staring at Leo and then glancing away realizing looking at her upset made things worse. "I... I said I was being selfish and reckless. I can't lie well enough, that's the whole problem."

"I can't hide well enough what I think about you. Cathy flat out called me on it and she spent half the year last year more or less ignoring me because she was mad at me," David said. "You expect me to in good conscious drag you under some microscope because you associate with me and I happen to be attracted to you beyond the usual superficial way I view most people in that regards?"

"I..." He began before falling silent and biting his lip. "I screwed up. I'm worried about half a dozen things but those are my problems. And I shouldn't drag you into it and especially not have involved your sisters. I... I've liked you for over a year now because you aren't anything like my family and the fact you don't tend to lie about everything and genuinely care about people but those traits are exactly why I'm saying we can't be friends."

"Those things and the fact I like you more than just a platonic friend means the same scrutiny I'm under is going to bleed over to you," David said before sliding down the wall to the floor, "I am apologizing for that, Leo. And to make up for that I'm telling you to avoid me. And yes I'm blowing a simple matter out of proportion, but... look I'm sorry. I'm an arse. There plain and simple." He gave a shaky laugh and buried his face in his hands before taking a long breath and hoping that Mira or Grace didn't stop by.

Leonette had a look of pure shock when David started blurting things out. ‘He told his grandfather, what…?’ she thought completely lost as to why he’d do such a thing and then have that happen. “Why would you… why would he… do something like that…?” she asked in confusion before he started in on everything. There had to be some kind of motive behind it as if they were trying to ruin David’s life or something.

Listening to everything David had pretty much bottled up Leonette was floored. Half of what he was saying she didn’t know if she believed. Everything from his family, to them being friends, right down to David saying he liked her as more than that completely left her at a loss for words. Until, he finally finished and she was able to bring herself to speak.

“No, I don’t but you don’t have to lie either.” Leonette told David as she wiped away her tears. “If you think I shouldn’t lie because I seriously suck at it then I won’t.” she added being completely straight up with him. “I like you too David. I haven’t stopped think about you since that stupid rumor about us, second year.” She blurted out. “And, you didn’t drag me into any of this. I jumped at the chance of coming here so I could see you… so that I could spend the summer with you.” Leonette continued from her spot in front of him.

“No you aren’t.” Leonette replied to him as she slid down next to him. She really hated it when he thought like that about himself. “You don’t have to apologize and you certainly don’t have to face your problems alone.” Leonette spoke her frustration pretty much dissolved. “You were there for me when I needed someone and I’m definitely going to be here for you. No matter what because I care… a lot about… you...” she admitted a bit surprised at herself.

“Besides, if you think for one heartbeat of a second that I’m going to stop being your friend because of your grandparents and the rest of your family, then you’re wrong.” Leonette told David. “I dare them to put me under a microscope and find something because all I see against me is my placement in Gryffindor and my uncle marrying a muggleborn.” What could they possibly find on her? Nothing, that’s what… and she was sure no matter what they couldn’t make her abandon her closest friend.

"Mum's pregnant. Every time it happens there is one fact that lingers in everyone's brains: Dad's a squib. It's simple. I got fed up once and for all with the Averys," He answered in explanation, "as for why he would. There are several reasons. And it doesn't matter if you are an Avery what the head of the family says goes-no questions asked for us."

He glanced away listening as Leo told him he didn't have to lie either and then continued on and ended with the fact she wasn't going to stop being his friend because of his grandparents and the rest of his family. "I can't be just friends with you. I had trouble with it before but now I don't have that luxury. It is easier to define people in set categories. I can stay on good terms with you regardless, but I can't be your friend. Not at this point. Not anymore. And, I'm sure you have far more agreeable friends to be around. I never had a major desire to be liked just recognized for what I have earned by my own toil."

"This friendship thing isn't working for me," David answered before glancing at her pointedly, "And it is illogical to deal with such irritations for a mere friend." Sighing, he stood and said, "I don't want to be just friends, so you can figure out what you want one way or another. I'm not going to rely on you just because you are a decent enough person you would do that for any of your friends."

"And you probably should go to check if you have your allergy medicine and take it..."

Taking what felt like forever to find Tara, Mira just really wanted to unpack and get settled. Headed back upstairs, hoping the cat would listen and follow, she paused just before reaching the top of the stairs. Pausing she listened to the two voices on the second floor. Were her sister and David going at it right now? It sure seemed like it to her. That was until things went from frustrating to almost downright depressing. Mira didn’t entirely understand but remained hidden as she eavesdropped.

‘Leo likes him…’ Mira wasn’t really all that surprised. She didn’t need a degree to tell her that they had a thing for each other. In fact it was pretty damn obvious if you asked her. Despite seeing it already Mira didn’t know if she liked the idea of her sister being more than just friends with David. Not that she had anything against him it was just something about her sister being with another individual (you know her growing up).

Her sister certainly did care about her ‘friend’. If Mira had half a heart she wouldn’t intrude or eavesdrop. Luckily for David and her sister Leo she had just that. Turning back down the stairs Mira made sure the cat followed her back down the stairs. Getting to the bottom of the landing Mira glanced at Tara. “So care to entertain me until they’re finished?” she asked the feline before going over and dropping her bag on the floor before parking it on the couch.

Since the little debacle with the cats and everything, Mira had been carrying around her backpack. Luck for her because she didn’t have anything to do without it. Pulling out her sketch book and pencil she figured she might as well work on her drawing skills. Besides, why not relax, listen to some music, and pray that no one asked what she was doing.

Leonette couldn’t believe the nerve of David’s Grandfather. He was the cruelest person she ever knew that was for sure and she knew she would never want to meet him. Regardless this wasn’t about him this was about them. Leonette certainly wasn’t going to let him control that. Not wanting to believe that David wanted to be alone Leonette’s thoughts raced. Nobody really wanted to be alone or disliked by anyone she knew that much.

“David you’re right… I do have more agreeable friends but none of them are you.” Leonette stated before pausing a moment. “The truth is… I spent over the last year hanging with you that… I don’t know if I really have any other friends.” she told him. Did she really lose all her friends because of the lack of time she spent with them? Really, Leonette couldn’t say otherwise.

When David questioned her on what she wanted and that being just friends wasn’t going to work for him anymore Leonette didn’t stop to think. “David,” she said practically jumping back up off the ground. “You’re right, I would do the same for any one of my friends… but you aren’t just a friend...” she continued slowly. “… And I don’t want you to be…” she added pausing for half a second. "Because I love you!" she practically shouted through the whole house.

Leonette turned and looked away with hurt eyes and a pain in her chest. Reluctantly, she went through her bag and to her relief found her medication. Going to one of the closest washrooms she ran the tap, took some water, and swallowed her pill. Drying her eyes Leonette turned off the tap and went back into the hall, a part of her felt stupid for saying it.

At Leo's half shout about her loving him, he went pale and his eyes widened and he was completely at a loss of words. He spent several moments calculating, thinking. He didn't know if he would use the world love towards Leo, but he knew enough about himself that he wouldn't have spent an hour or two at least every day learning piano, even though he enjoyed it, unless it had been Leo who had suggested it in the first place. It wasn't like Sapphire who he thought was attractive and her argumentative nature and trying to best him and everyone else he found amusing to no end. He was thankful Leo had left to take her medication she had pulled from her bag and took to a bathroom.

It gave him a moment to put his thoughts in order until she came back into the hall and that was when David crossed his arms and let out a sigh, "Date me. If it is a fling than none of the Averys can have any objection since you are pureblood-not that personally I care on the matter, I generally consider myself halfblood even though it isn't really all that accurate. I can get along with people if I want to or have reason to, so I'll put up with whatever friends you have as long as I'm not violating conditions laid out by my insane grandfather. Of course he's more busy trying to antagonize my father and worried about their next child being a squib."

"I can tell you what conditional means if you want, but most of it should be fairly obvious," David answered. "And if you do get invested in this at all, know now that my grandfather, all the Averys, are going to ask questions at some point."

He let out a long sigh and his blunt somewhat cold evaluation was lost. "I am an arse. Disagreeable. Have an extended family mad as a hatter who have sketchy views at best. They are paranoid, but I would be too with their history. And if it is longer than a fling you are going to be stuck dealing with them. But, I like you. I have done things I never would have just on your mere suggestion. And the reason I know as much about quidditch at the school is because I bother to find out because it is something you like. The reason I spent hours and hours learning more than just scales on the piano last year was because of you."

"I'm fine even if you decide to make it a fling but I am not fine with just staying friends," He said pointedly. He sighed and glanced away turning bright red and muttered, "Though I'd rather it a little more lasting that a fling but..." He glanced back at Leo still bright red and said, "And, I suppose I can agree to compromise on pretty much anything you want as long as it isn't going to lead me to feel compelled to pull an Edwin Ryans where I feel compelled to move to South America for over half a decade until the smoke clears."

He clenched his fists and then crossed his arms, staring at the wood floor of the hallway, bright red and feeling like this was probably one of the top ten moments of feeling like a complete and utter moron. At least Leo wasn't the type to be completely rude to anyone even if they deserved it. And, it was just them in that hallway. And he doubted she would ever blurt out anything he said to anyone, though if her sisters heard any of the conversation he couldn't be sure. He should have just stuck to studying and ignoring people better, he thought. This wouldn't have happened at the very least.
