Sweetie blushed big time when he said he wouldn't have gone far. It wasn't like she expected him to leave her behind. Was it? She almost frowned. Almost. She hadn't needed that thought to cross her mind. He was being very kind to her right now, and he seemed like a general sweetheart. There wasn't any reason to think he'd have left her in the first place. Not when he'd just agreed to teach her how to swim.

"I didn't think you would, but I still fell behind." Her blush was slowly fading, trying not to be noticed so easily. The faun hoped she wouldn't blush nearly so much when they were in the water.

When they got down to the water, Dysmas quickly put his feet in and immediately felt sweet relief. He turned back to her and said, "Don't worry I'm not going far, I'll be right back." Dysmas did a horizontal dive and submerged himself completely and quickly and then swam back closer to her. It had been just what he needed. "Alright, walk out to me if you're comfortable." He was at a depth just above his knees.

He was gone in the blink of an eye. She had looked at him, saw him in the water and then he was gone. What kind of magic was that? Her eyes were wide with wonder at how quickly he'd moved. He had warned her that he would be right back, but that didn't mean that she'd expected him to go so quickly.

"You don't look that far out there?" She tilted her head, dipping a hoof into the water. It was nice and cool to the touch. Encouraged by the feel against her skin, she waded in a little. Paused. Waded in a little more, until she was standing right next to him. Being a good amount shorter than him, the water was anywhere from mid thigh to waist level on her, depending on the gentle ebb and flow of the waves.

"It feels so strange to have water this high up my legs." She blinked, looking down at where it was splashing against her.

It was such a strange concept to Dysmas. "I've always been in the water..." he sounded stunned. Ok, so now he had her in the water, what did he do next? "I'm sorry, I'm not sure how good of a teacher I'll be," he admitted, hoping it wouldn't scare her out of the water. He pulled up his legs so he was just floating there in the shallows. "Try floating on your stomach and move your hands and your arms like this to keep yourself up." Dysmas said, showing her how he was moving. Teach her how to tread water first, sure that was a good start. He wondered how well it would work since she had hooves, where he had feet and naiad, even better swimmers then him had fins.

He'd always been in water? She looked up at him, grinning. "No you haven't, you were on land a few minutes ago. Silly." Sweetie stuck her tongue out at him, laughing a little. Okay, it wasn't the best joke, but it was still something to take the edge off. And then he sat down in the water, looking all funny and stuff. Or was he laying? Sweetie really couldn't tell. There were feet and a head, and arms, but they weren't where she thought they'd be.

"Floating on my stomach?" She blinked, a little worried he was going to ask more of her than she could handle. The female shrugged, attempting what he asked of her. It didn't take long before Sweetie sank. Sinking meant choking, choking meant not fun times. Panicked, the faun stood upright, shaking violently. Thank Celestia they were just in shallow water.

Dysmas could have rolled his eyes, the wasn't what he meant! He laughed instead. He nodded his head slowly to her question, yes floating on your stomach. He winced horribly when she sunk and held out his hand to help her, but she was already standing again. "Oh gee, I'm so sorry..." Dysmas frowned perhaps this wasn't going to go well. "Do you want to try again... or do you think it is because we have different feet?"

She grinned, glad her attempt at being funny went over well. Wasn't often she tried it, and it always made her feel better about joking when they were at least funny things.

"It's okay.." Sweetie shook a little, wrapping her arms around herself tightly. The whole almost drowning in the water thing was clearly not behind her just yet. Sweetie had a feeling she wasn't going to want to go in the water too often any time soon. "I think..." Her teeth clacked together noisily, "I think I'm going to call it a day?" The female offered, feeling bad. He'd been so excited to teach her how to swim and here she was, backing out. But going back into the water so soon after nearly swallowing all of it... She wasn't ready for it yet. But she wanted to be. Maybe soon...

"Maybe we can try it again later?" The faun offered, anything to get out of the water right now. She still wanted to learn from him, she did, but right now wasn't the time. Not so soon after almost drowning.

"Oh alright... sure," Dysmas felt really bad, especially when she wanted to call it a day. She didn't want to just hang out in the water with him, no swimming involved either. "Do you mind if I hang out in here for a little while longer. I'll stay close to shore, so I can hear you if you call or need something." He put his hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her. No wonder his mother was afraid of water...

Once he had Sweetie's okay, Dysmas dived back underwater. Even though he could breathe underwater, he still popped his head up every once in a while to make sure she was still okay. He swam around for quite a bit, looking to see if there was anything in the water that might be from the boat and diving down into the depths to see if there was anything of interest on the floor as well. Dysmas didn't stray too far though, as promised.

Sweetie felt bad wanting to leave, but she didn't think she could take anymore of the water. It was nice and pretty, but that was twice now that she'd choked on it. The thought was enough to send her into a fit. The faun still wasn't entirely sure how she managed to hold it together long enough to get to the shore.

"Feel free to keep swimming." She managed a smile, really feeling bad about being afraid of the water right now. "I'll just go on shore and see if I can find anything to help us survive out here till we get rescued?" Sweetie thought it was a good alternative to just sitting around waiting for him. That wouldn't be awkward at all.

While he swam, the faun stayed close to the waterline, looking through the sand for anything that might be of any use. She didn't see much, just a couple of sea shells, a flat rock or two. All of it was gathered into a nice neat little pile waiting for him to come back and see. If they ever found water, or more coconuts, they could use the seashells to drink from, and a rock would be good to cook on. Maybe. Sweetie was pleased with the small haul.

Dysmas felt at peace in the water, even if he was searching for things that might help them survive, though he wasn't finding much for now. Free and floaty, gliding through the expanse, the gentle pull and release of the waves, it was all that mattered. Dysmas picked up a large, beautifully colored seashell while he was out in the water, he didn't know Sweetie was gathering things of her own and though it might be a nice gift to give her for waiting so patiently for him to finish swimming. He chased some fishes for a little while before he slowly made his way to the shore.

Eventually, she had given up on finding anything more. Sweetie sat patiently on the shore after her little scrounging expedition. She was humming to herself when he surfaced again. It was a tune she had learned while living in Equestria, and that she still favored today. Her mother had taught it to her when she was just a filly.

The tune reminded her of home, no matter how far away she was. With a smile on her face, she was looking up to the fading sun as she hummed. The faun was distracted enough to not notice him coming out of the water. Such a lovely tune.

Dysmas emerged from the water and wrung out his long, slender pony tail and then made his way towards Sweetie. "Hey, hope you weren't too bored. I guess I was out there for a little while..." Dysmas presented her with the seashell he had picked out for her. "Here I brought this for you, see the water isn't so bad..." he gave her a light smile, still feeling bad for before.

Sweetie jumped, finally noticing him over her humming. The faun blushed big. Not only had he snuck up on her, he was offering her a gift. A warm smile spread across her face, looking up at him. "It's gorgeous! Thank you." Sweetie couldn't contain herself.

The faun jumped up, hugging him tight. She was careful not to squeeze enough to constrict his breathing, but she might have forgotten to be gentle about it. It was all just so sweet. Not only had he stayed close to shore like he'd promised, he'd brought her an amazing shell from the ocean. How many faunies could say that?

It only took her a moment to remember they needed to find something to sleep in for the night. Before she had started humming she'd been thinking about that. There still wasn't much of anything she knew about the isle, not with sticking close to where Dysmas was swimming. Worse yet, the sun was starting to set. They'd only have so much time before there wasn't any light at all and then they wouldn't be able to see anything! "Oh no..." She mumbled, trailing off a bit in her momentary panic

Dysmas smiled proudly, he had given her something she had genuinely seemed to like and then... "What... wait...what's wrong?" Dysmas asked with a concerned and confused look on his face. Her oh no, had seemingly come from no where to him, and he had forgotten about most of his worries and concerns while he had been swimming, it was an awful thing really.

"We don't have anywhere to sleep tonight!" She sounded as panicked as she felt. It was a terrifying concept. The faun hadn't had the chance to scout out the isle, wanting to stay close to the male. Which meant neither of them really knew a darn thing about it.

"We don't even know if there's a safe place outside of where we found the coconuts." Sweetie frowned, running a hand through her hair. She was going to look frazzled by the time he managed to get her calm enough to not freak out that they didn't even have leaves to cover themselves with at night. If the night got cold, they would have to snuggle... The thought made her blush madly. It wasn't that she didn't want to, she really really did, it was modesty saying that it was weird to snuggle up to someone you had met just recently. And by recently, that meant a few hours ago after almost drowning the first time that day. Good Heavens they were in deep.
