Riyo had walked the steps of the true king, and felt his struggles. Dismounting from her trusty companion, she stared in awe up at the castle as her hand rested on him.
She marveled for a long time, until something strange happened.
The next time she looked over at the alpaca, he was... A strange cat wearing a gas mask.
"Felix..." It was a cold, rainy day, just weeks after the now 12 year old ghoul lost her last parent to the asylum. The house was a stale silence whenever she was home... Until that fateful night.
The sounds of scratching at the door had caught her attention, and with a dazed expression, she made her way over from next to the fireplace.
Work... It was so heartless. So draining. She could feel more and more of her becoming numb as time progressed... But as she opened the dark oak door, Riyo found something she never thought she'd see again.
Hope.
Hope in the form of a mewing bundle covered in nergal spikes and budding wings.
Before, Riyo had refused to bring animals home... What with her mother being as unpredictable as she was... But she was alone now. She could do as she pleased, and for the first time in a long time, the ghoul had contact with another breathing creature.
She scooped the cold and hungry cat into her arms, and walked back inside. "You'll be okay. I'll make sure you never have to go hungry again.. I promise." Soon after the hazcat was adorned with a name. An appropriate one, as Riyo recalled Felix being the catty companion of the hero in a story she read once.
He had been with her through thick and thin, and hopefully, somewhere out there, he was still waiting on her. Somewhere...
