It seemed the air around them was momentarily quite free of Thread. Hatteth flamed at a single stray strand, while J'nes glanced around to make sure there were no nasty surprises hovering around, ready for a chance gust of wind to blow them just where they weren't wanted. Perhaps this wave is nearly through, he commented to his dragon. Hatteth rumbled a hopeful agreement, though as always he kept scanning the sky for any Thread in his area.

The wave was growing thin, which mean it would be time for many riders to refule their bags. Calanoth, see who needs stone, and send half down, then the rest. We'll go with the second group. He pulled the loose ties of their bags shut, the few stones left rattling against Calanoth's unmarked hide.
It was a good Fall so far. He could only hope it lasted.

She didn't want to be aloft, but with the influx of injured from the fiasco of the raids on the Wherholders, there wasn't really much of a choice. Every able-bodied rider and half the ones that weren't technically able-bodied yet were needed in the Fall. And besides that, of course, riders were expected to go aloft for Threadfall at least sometimes. Even if Lanakirene would rather be helping the ground crew and preparing to tend the injured. Her attention turned to the weyrlings who were flying - old enough to fly and flame, still too young to be doing it and one of them had been injured. She didn't like it.
Oh, c'mon, it's not like you have anything better to do right now! Viath's voice in the back of her head was surprisingly cheerful, even as he dove after a silver filament missed by one of the bronzes, flaming it neatly out of existence before twisting precisely out of the way. There's no dragonhealing to do til after Threadfall, anyway!
Your constant optimism astounds me. Wry, but slightly amused. He was trying to make her laugh. She appreciated that.

It seemed that experience had greatly improved on Halith's skills and the still-too-recent capture of her rider had focused Halith's attention to minute details.
Clump coming in from above. High right!
Halith finished chewing her mouthful of firestone and lifted her head in plenty of time to blast the clump so that all that touched Ceta was cooling ash.
Ceta exhaled in relief as she shook her head free of ash, feeling a brief surge of adrenaline and pride at Halith's newfound skill. Halith, too, sent a surge of pride to her rider.
Did you see, Cetalesemine?
Yes, Halith, I certainly did. Very nice, but don't stop paying attention! Let Scarath know that we're almost scraping the bottom of our sack. We'll need stone.

They'd done well conserving their energies this time around. Courath felt confident that if they kept this up, she might be able to last longer than half the Fall this time. I won't push it but we need all the fire power we can up in the skies at the moment.

Of course that last little bit had to catch them. Courath popped between and felt the single strand of thread disintegrate into ash. Despite the injury, both rider and dragon came back to their formation in high spirirts.

V'lay and Blue Vinath - burn post

For a moment, the sky was clear. Dragons returned to formation, V'lay and Vinath falling back into the lines of wings neatly. But the blue was tiring slightly, and his rider was beginning to feel the ache of exertion in formerly-cracked ribs. Clinging resolutely to the straps, he closed his eyes until the sound of dragons heading after Thread brought him back to the real world. Another wave.
Vinath grunted softly, twitching his wings and diving after a filament of silver that escaped the dragons above him.

The single filament of silver fell away in ash, but Vinath's attention on it had distracted him from properly watching himself, and the sudden pain in his flank made him snarl in alarm. He dove, vanishing between and returning below the rest of his wing, V'lay clinging resolutely to his straps.
Are you all right?

As the first wave ended Malcarreth signalled their wingsecond and dropped down to pick up fresh supplies of firestone, chest heaving. C'tis paused to swipe ash off his goggles as they landed and sat up straight for the first time since lifting off... how ever long ago that had been. He spotted Becka among those helping with the firestone and spared her a nod, not that he had any idea if she'd even notice or not. He'd nothing against her, and the fact that she was out here of her own free will was... well it was something anyway.
All too soon they were back in the air, taking their place in formation as the next wave of Thread approached.
Malcarreth replied, pirouetting in the air to avoid a strand of Thread and then searing it neatly to ash.

They landed for a quick breather, for more stone. Malcarreth and C'tis took flight just before they set down. Rochelle watched them, one small hand rising up for a wave whether or not they saw. She patted Kibeth before the second wave started, the crimson pair pushing back off into the air. They dodged the incoming thread before burning it to a crisp.

They were flying too high when the second wave hit. Not back in formation yet, just...out in the open. Viath snarled, twisting and blasting a massive clump out of the sky. Twisting resolutely in the straps, La turned to check the sky, watching their backs. Be ready to between on my call, she said softly, tossing another chunk of firestone into her dragon's mouth as Viath's head came back.
