Sherry felt the change in the atmosphere. Ok, maybe she'd made it up, but she had a feeling something she'd said upset him again. She could kick herself for being dumb, though she wasn't sure what she'd done this time. Had she gone a pushed to far? Maybe? She didn't know. She did know the longer this went on the more she realized she did want him to stay... and she seriously did want to be close to him all night. But with how things were going.... this was probably not something she should be pushing. At all. She really didn't want to upset him.

So turned to look at him, even if it meant his hands would have to leave her shoulders. "Things," she replied, as though that answered his question. After a beat or two, she added, "You? Me? I.... honestly didn't think much beyond a basic question or two." At least she felt she could be truthful with him. Even if everything else felt like eggshells sometimes. But she liked being honest. It felt good. "I mean, I don't know tons about you. But I'd like to? And... and... Beyond that talking was just an reason to keep you here." There. She said it. Have some more honesty, Jake.

The rumble she felt from Armagnac was strangely... approving. Sherry didn't quite know what to do with that.

What did she want to know? Everything he'd be willing to share, of course. That probably wasn't a good response, though. Between his question and the look he gave her, though, she was encouraged. He'd never wanted to talk about himself before, not really. "I..." she paused. She was apparently really bad at this. Maybe she was just flustered? Maybe she should stop being flustered and second guessing herself and just... stop being silly?

Approval continued to ooze from her weapon.

Several moments passed before Sherry did anything else. Reaching out, she grabbed his hand again. "I want to know everything. Who you are, where you're from, what you like, what you don't like, what you do when you're not training, things like that. I don't need to know them all right now."

She paused, biting her lip. Something about this all felt horrible awkward. Like she was trying too hard, and it was getting her no where but in circles. She wanted to sit, but that had led them here in the first place. .... All her fault. Good job, Sherry.

"What would you say if I said I didn't want to sit here and quiz you?"

For a moment Sherry stared at him. She hadn't been expecting a reply like that. (Well. She'd been expecting him to list mission reports as his downtime activity...but other than that... )

After the moment of silence was up, after she'd stood there processing all the information he'd so cleanly handed over, she laughed. Those blatantly obvious and true answers to her silly questions were just what she needed to clear her head.

She laughed, stepped forward, hugged him tight, and laughed some more. Ok, it was more of a giggle by this point, but she was still laughing. "I've been being silly. Thank you. I needed that."

“I'm sorry. My head has been so full of worry and reasons and it's just been a mess.” She didn't stop hugging him, rather she pulled him a little closer and put her head on his shoulder.

“I've been worried about upsetting you. But I should just be clear.” She was bad at pretense ok. “I want you to sleep here. Next to me. ...What do you want?”

They could start there.

Relief made for the best sighs. "Good," she said. That settled it, didn't it?

It did as far as Sherry was concerned. And now that she'd basically gotten her mind straightened out, she had few qualms about initiating kisses. So that's what she did. It was a simple kiss, soft and quiet. She smiled when it ended, and sighed again. More than content for the moment.

Well. Nearly. She was beginning to wonder just how long they could stand there for.

The only problem with being warm and content and having someone to lean on was.... well. No one wants to fall asleep standing up. Even though she wasn't tired, she knew she very could be, happy as she was right there.

So Sherry decided moving was a good thing.

She placed a quick kiss on his cheek, then stepped back, pulling away from him. She took one of his hands again and began to guide him in the direction of the bed. It was still the only place besides the floor large enough for two people, ok.

"Come sit with me?"

Surprised was the best word to describe Sherry's feelings as he sat them down, with her in his lap. And the quick kiss afterwards... Ok, Sherry just kind of stared at him.

She really liked all the affection. And being picked up and carried was exciting and awesome. She really liked touching in general, but this was Jake. He wasn't usually... so... affectionate. Sure, he'd fallen asleep on her twice, but that was different. Maybe.

She wrapped her arms around and gave him another kiss on the cheek before pressing her forehead against the side of his neck. All cuddled up and nice. It was perfect.

"I am not complaining in the slightest..." she actually nestled up a little closer to him, "but can I ask what brought this sudden 'sweeping off of feet' on?" She was surprised, Jake.

"It is romantic. And I did..." Which was why she was quite happy where she was at that moment. So she didn't even bother moving.

"You know, you can be surprisingly romantic." Even if he hadn't been trying with the necklace, she was still counting it. She sighed, content and pleased.
