He breathed it in. There was a steady ebb and flow, a rhythm that was broken occasionally by the cross-current. He could hear it in tune with his inner metronome, swaying softly in the sand until he could catch it, and began humming softly but clear to the tune of the waves.

Sasha wasn't sure what Jerry was up to when he started humming, but she let him do it in silence for a short time. She didn't pitch in, she didn't smile - she merely dug her toes farther into the sand until the grittiness enveloped her feet entirely.
She stared down at her feet, softly murmuring, "I should.. get back to the labs. I told Melvin I'd look after his research while he was in the infirmary."

Jerry stopped, glancing over to her again with an almost disappointed expression, "Oh." And then the facts sank in, "Melvin's in the infirmary?"

"The last I heard, which wasn't more than a few days ago," Sasha replied as she wiggled her toes in the sand. "I'm still not quite sure what happened."

"Well, I had nothing to do with it, this time." He smiled uneasily.

Sasha glanced over at Jerry, brows raised inquisitively.
"This time?"

Jerry 's expression fell. "I um.. S-sort of.. Lost my um... Cool." He fidgeted. "R-rep's okay now though, they said he won't lose that eye.." Deep breaths. "B-but things are okay now, I'm s-starting a petition to... To get him transferred back to Sun! I know you don't like him but it really wasn't um entirely on purpose..." He babbled.

Sasha's eyes narrowed just slightly. It had been Jerry that had landed Rep in the infirmary. She shook her head briefly before gazing back out to sea.
Should she be upset that Jerry had attacked her toy? ...she couldn't. Sasha couldn't muster the emotion. There were other, more pressing things that she had to focus on.
"We aren't allowed to be on the island at the same time," she shrugged, lowering her eyes so that she could stare at her sand-covered toes, "and at this point I'm considering myself very lucky in regards to that."

He drew in a deep breath, debating for a moment about asking more about it, but it didn't seem like a good time. She had enough on her mind without him bothering her with questions, all Melvinly. Instead, he waited another minute before shifting on the sand, "You're going to be alright. You'll see. We'll find her." He tried to accompany the statement with a smile, reaching out to touch her arm gently.

The optimism was welcome, though Sasha wasn't really feeling it herself. It helped, a little at least, that both Jerry and Wash were so very convinced that everything was going to work out for the best.
She didn't feel that way, but Sasha didn't want to go down that rabbithole. Depression was a slippery slope, and she was already losing footing.
"Thanks, Jerry." Sasha offered a weak smile and lifted her hand to press against his before she rose to her feet. The ocean once more took her attention, and she gazed out across the breaking waves, lost in her thoughts.

"If you ever just need to talk... You can come to me anytime." He got the feeling she probably needed some alone time, and took that queue to stand as well, gingerly keeping his healing arm against his chest as he lifted his boots to his good shoulder. "N-no strings attached."

A smile ghosted across her face, fleeting, barely there before it was gone again.
"Thanks, Jerry. I'll.. I still have to write a mission report, so if I'm allowed to go back with a small crew I'll text you."
She lifted her hand and give him a chaste pat on his scarred cheek, her eyes clouded with a myriad of emotions. Fear, loss, exhaustion.
"I'll talk to you soon," she lowered her hand and bent for her jacket and shoes.

"You were my best friend once," He murmured quietly, "You still can be." He bit his lip, but figured it was best to leave it at that, "Things'll get better, you'll see." He wasn't sure if he was lying or not, but it was a lot easier to face the situation with blind optimism than admit defeat without trying.
What was a Hunter without their weapon? She didn't say anything about crushed tablets. Nona was just kidnapped. They'd get her back and everything would be ok, he was sure of it.

It was hard to wrap her brain around what he was trying to say, so Sasha merely gave him a weak smile and a slight nod.
"Thanks, Jerry. All of this, it means a lot."
What would they do with her if she couldn't find her weapon? Would they kill her?
It kind of seemed like it would be a blessing at this point in time.
"I'll talk to you later. Twitter or text or something."

His mouth danced up in a weak smile, a hand moving out to touch her elbow for just a moment before he pulled back. "Chin up, ok? Write... write our vengeance song!" And before he could muddle up the situation any worse, he turned to hurry his way across the sand.
