Cepheith had no pretty words for Hatteth this time, but since he had performed so poorly in that last stunt, he was not surprised. But had she looked at him? Perhaps he could make up for his failure and make her look at him again. And maybe even more than look at.
As they headed for the shore, Hatteth watched Cepheith as the trees grew closer. Where would she fly next? He wanted to be able to follow wherever she turned. But it seemed she would not turn, and flew right into the vegetation. Ah, perhaps now he could show his skill! As a somewhat small brown, he was probably one of the smallest chasing her, but that left him more nimble than most. Without losing speed, he swerved and dodged among the trees, slipping through gaps that few others could manage, even if he misjudged the space a time or two and skinned the tips of his wings. But it was worth it, he was growing ever closer! He took the chance to croon, Glorious lady, surely you don't want the biggest or the strongest suitor, since size and strength aren't everything. You deserve someone nimble and clever who can keep up with every trick you try.

Trees. Why’d it have to be trees? Tauvolanth was not a small bronze. He was big, and he had a lot of wingspan, and he just didn’t fit very well through thick jungle. He wasn’t particularly looking forward to tree-dodging, although he was willing to give it his most valiant effort for the sake of the gold’s favor –
And then something hit him quite unexpectedly. No, someone hit him quite unexpectedly. Without any warning or provocation, Calanoth had turned claws on him and torn open his flank, spilling thick heavy droplets of ichor. The pain seared through him, and he roared half in alarm, half in fury.
Still roaring, he twisted in midair and lunged straight for his fellow bronze, aiming to give just as good as he got. Cepheith and her games and love-taps were completely forgotten. The little sting of a tail whack, that was one thing. Being attacked for no reason and with no cause? That was quite another, and Tauvolanth wasn’t going to just sit back and take that!
Claws extended, he went to grab any part of Calanoth he could sink talons into.

She was coy, this gold. And others were gaining on him. Brynth took a swipe at a dragon near him and pumped his wings harder. He wanted her!

Perhaps he had lingered too long.
Recognizing he may have made a fatal mistake, Tyeth focused all of his attention on Cepheith and catching up to her. He easily outdistanced several of his competitors, and managed to neatly avoid the tangle that several of the other Bronzes had gotten into because of Calanoth.
Idiot Malvren Bronze.
Unfortunately, the trees were as much a test for Tyeth as the others and, in spite of his desires and mental ambitions, Tyeth was an exceedingly large Bronze. That made navigating the trees... difficult.
He didn't bugle in frustration, but he bared his teeth as he felt it. He appreciated her cunning... but only up until the point that it began to inconvenience him. Still, she was a Gold. She deserved the choice to make things difficult for her suitors.

Plexith was overjoyed by the words Cepheith chose to bestow on him 'It is more then any bronze could dare to hope for lovely Cepheith' He responded to her in sweet tones. The trees were coming quickly but the queens dodgy flight was hardly the only obstacle in the air and Plexith barely avoided the spat breaking out among two of the others. Any other time and he might have rumbled a chastisement at their behavior but today his focus was entirely on Cepheith.
Let them play their games. He would chase the gold. Even if that meant flying into the trees where his large wingspan would cause him all sorts of trouble. Still the thought of this trouble would not deter him, he was both battle and thread scored...no mere grouping of tree were going to stop him.

He didn't actually mind them, and began to weave through them carefully, They would likely slow him down, but better to be cautious than to crash, and he wouldn't be the only one effected by this. He was a smaller brown in any case, which Krith hoped would give him the advantage.
Or at least he was hoping until he ran into the fighting dragons, causing him to have to detour out of their way, not wanting to get in the middle of that mess.

Fancy words, for a fancy dragon. Her honey-warm mental voice purred at Calanoth. She taunted and teased him with her flying, always staying just ahead of him. The Queen flew through the trees, small lacerations appearing on her hide where the jungle left its mark upon her. But still she flew, enjoying the rush from narrowly avoiding the trees. And what better way to thin the herd then force them through hazardous obstacles?! Or overly large egos.
Her own gaze grew a hint of crimson, Cepheith snarling towards the Bronzes. Careful, Calanoth. Or it will be your hide dripping ichor into the lakes as well. Even as she said it, Tauvolanth retaliated against him.
The world can always use some intelligent dragons. Cepheith snorted to Animith, encouraging the Bronze to give it his all. Yes. Yes, he was a fine Bronze. She would not mind seeing him show her just what he was capable of. Ah, but there was also Hatteth. The brave Brown had held his own against the larger dragons. The Gold was quite impressed with him. You are wise in your words, dear Hatteth. Size and strength are not everything. You are fine proof of this.
Ceph? Narisa's questioning tones surrounded her dragon, who understood completely. A choice had to be made. Preferably before there was too much ichor spilled. And the Queen had her eye on a few someones. Yes. Her rider gave silent approval and encouragement to give them all one more show of her shining hide. She wanted her dragon to choose freely, even if she hoped with all her being that the rider she wanted would come.
Then let me give you a proper sight of me, sweet Nachith! Cepheith gave a sweet bugle in reply to Iweith before she twisted and let her powerful wings take her straight up. Up into the sky like a rising star.

This was miserable. Pipith was miserable. He'd never had a worse fight! The only consolation was that other dragons were fighting - not him, but then, he hadn't been close enough to the others for awhile - and that they were finally flying out of the jungle. Feeling slightly better, but still sore, he found a small burst of speed.
His, meanwhile, had finally joined the gathering of riders - late, as usual, even for this, but having such a distraught dragon in his head had not helped. Shaking it off as best he could, he tried to sidle unobtrusively past the other men to Narisa's door.

Out of the trees and back to open sky, at last! The slender little brown bugled his happiness at this, and at the sight of the glowing Queen, all but ignoring the fight except to avoid it.
This is much better, brightest star, Nachith crooned appreciatively, twirling as he rose after her. He was beginning to tire, but he would admire her while he could.

So close, Brynth had managed to dodge other browns and bronzes. Stayed away from the trees, how long would she stay in the air? Surely, the dragon who caught her would be considered the best!

Iweith was pleased when the gold responded. Cepheith was a prize for any dragon. And it must show some skill that he had avoided the others and getting hurt. Had she decided, would she tire soon?

It's true, it could. They would be dragonets for the ages, singing Harper songs by memory, reciting the Weyrwomen of old. And oh dear, look at that, two of the bigger boys were going off and fighting. He had other things to think of though, such as shining hide and not getting cut open further (at least not by one other than Cepheith). In the back of his mind, short fingers twisted in sheets, and the gold the color of the setting sun on fire in the air before him. With a rather graceful squeak of surprise at his wings almost snagging at a tree, Animith got his butt out of the freaking jungle and into the sky after her. He had spots on his wings. He felt them most dashing. Perhaps she would feel the same.
Animith crooned, the noise deep in the sky. Did I promise singing? Poetry? I believe I may have. Come fly with me, come fly, come fly away~

The brown was done. The trees were just one too many things to handle, and he turned around, heading back to the weyr. She would chose one of the others, and next time, next time he'd do better.
