And now Rin was shoved backwards, falling. Arm flailing frantically to no avail. Thud.
She was staring in shock up at the ceiling from her new cozy place on the floor. Any excuses Melvin offered went wasted.

"Oh s**t. Rin. I'm sorry. You just - You should have given me some warning or something." He moved in, reaching out but stopping before his hands even came near. Looking at his own filthy, dirty hands, he glanced back at her and decided it was best not to actually touch her. Instead he knelt down beside her to try and assess the damage."Are you okay?" The ground was completely caked in dirt too.

Rin offered him a rather hurt look for his efforts. "God Melvin, what the hell was that for?" She struggled a bit to refind her bearings ... without his help was apparently the only option.

"What do you mean, what the hell was that for? I didn't expect you to fall back. For someone with a massive axe, I thought you'd have some sense of balance." Yup, totally not his fault here. "Hold on a second."
He took off the gloves that had the potting dirt all on it and changed them for the ones he normally wore. "Let me see if you cut the back of your head." He said, scooting closer to see if he could inspect her scalp a moment to make sure she wasn't going to suffer from some mental problems due to her fall later on. A hand reached out to take her arm as gently as he could, if she let him.

Rin was now being man handled by the very person who only moments before threw a s**t-fit about touching and space. She didn't get the hypocrisy. She didn't argue about it either. Simply grumbled as she passively let him do what he was going to do until he was, "Satisfied?"

He glared at her. "Why would I be satisfied? You think I wanted you to fall back?" He helped her to sit up and then adjusted his glasses before moving beside her to part her hair to see if it was bleeding or not.

Rin was at least in one piece it seemed. She was made of tougher stuff than that, being a hunter and all. "I just wish you'd spell it out for me a bit. You're damn near impossible to read and then are vague about why and then, true to form, blame me for weird s**t being the cause."

He just turned to look at her. "You must have hit your head hard. I have no idea what you're talking about." He moved his hands through her thick, curly, hair before removing them. "You're not cut, but you'll probably have a bump there." He sighed before standing up and offering his hand.

Rin took the hand but looked suspicious, irritable that he'd blame it on some invisible bump she was certain she did not have. Her icy blue stare focused and determined, "Fine. Then tell me why you pushed me?"

Heaving her up, he frowned at her question. What was she getting at?
"Your hug surprised me. I just...reacted." Even as he said it, he knew it wouldn't be received as a normal, healthy reaction. "You train for months to fight and I guess you just pick things up." He would rather blame the reaction on some training, battle-habit that insured survival than on anything else that was just instinctual from his past.
"It's not like you hug me every day. How was I supposed to know?"

"We've sparred." He said, hoping to turn her rebuttal around. What was important here was to sweep the entire incident under the rug.
"Forget about it. I'm sorry I shoved you. Okay?" He went and picked up the broom from the floor. "If you feel light-headed at any point, tell me." In case her head bump was more serious.

"I didn't know what you were doing, Rin." He said firmly, done with the topic. "I just reacted. Don't think too much on it." Turning, he went to find some place to sweep. His nerves were getting to him, and it was easily solved by just cleaning for a while.
