Got an rpg idea, and even have a decent system set up so far, just haven't managed to physically test it yet.

Someone in another RP asked me if it would be okay to retcon, and I was at a loss, but she explained it meant 'retroactive continuity,' which was an easily understood but new term to me - she's decided to change her character's age, to better fit the personality as it is evolving. So many of us new to formal RP seem to form/define our characters as we go along, and gaps of 'what do I say/do' seem to come early in the experience. I learned a lot from a very patient teacher in my first formal RP, and opted out of my original character in another when I got totally confused by 3 to 5 people RP'ing 4-5 characters each. Now I am the only earth-normal character in the RP an ordinary cat. That suits me fine. It's the epitome of catness to pick and choose who to interact with, and basically, I now only track one character in the whole confusing group. In effect, there are several RPs going on at once in the thread. It's lovely, but for me it's also overwhelming.

I'm a pretty leniant GM, but if someone asked for retcon like that, I'd most likely accept that. As long as the change wasn't drastic or the age wasn't important to the plot, it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. And if it fits the how the character plays out better, that's great. I like the sound of RP'ing a cat! That is a clever solution to that problem. Huge games can be rather confusing. Although, I haven't been in one that complex, at least from the sounds of it. The few large games I've been in usually had different teams in different areas, so players could either read only the posts of their teammates and the GM, or read them all. that or the games never got far. On another note, I've been a bit inundated with surprises this month, but as I mentioned elsewhere in the guild, I've been plotting up a Megaman RP to start here!

Sounds lovely, but I'm at capacity with two (1 character each). ^^ Best of success! Haven't yet even really started to rp here, but am actually playing myself, so it should be easy!
