"Fear'sss low," Barth hissed, shaking his claw free of the last goo-drops.
"And I'm admittedly tired of being hit. You could stand to do a little less jumping around."
Thorns twisted around the bull's feet, twisting it painfully in place as they snaked further up through the rock and boiling dark energy.

"Efficient for a layabout." Zar commented curtly.
It was easy to leap up into the air and aim a very square kick at the rooted beast.
Hitting things was strangely therapeutic

This trip, for example, was serving as useful in more than one fashion.
The bull struggled free of the restraints with a snarl.

Zar wasn't the most durable demon in the world and was glad he'd eaten before he headed out. As a general rule he wasn't carrying around a lot of fear, if it had been prior to Calder deciding to feed him, he'd have lasted about two hits. Presently he was doing alright, though fighting was tiresome, he would rather talk it out over a contract or some other non violent means.
At least he was learning things about Barth.
"Well there's one thing we can agree on."
As the thing aimed a headbutt at him which sent him reeling backwards, he gave it a whack to the face for its trouble.

Zar raised a brow. "Really, you think so? Personally I wouldn't like to go through an entire organisation relying on asking individuals about their business, or relying on some kind of honour system for tracking owed debts. There is a reason so many of us use marks and contracts."
It was also highly efficient at entrapping people.
"If you find something more efficient. Do get back to me on it."

"Some of us enjoy being busy. It keeps the mind off of other things." he didn't comment on the obscuring nature of paperwork, it was very easy to use it for those ends. "It can be efficient or it can be enough red tape to slow down the progress of an entire species. Just depends who is wielding it."
"The demon who knows where to file the relevant items can change all sorts of things."
Striking was a lot harder when he was distracted.

People who were kept busy didn't spend much time thinking about what they were being kept busy for. The thorns's regeneration was slowing.
"Personally, I like progress. If a person is pushed backwards, they struggle. If they have the way paved for them...there's hardly any struggle at all."

"In those cases you have to know how to steer. I'm better at dealing with the struggling and slowing people down. I'd rather they gave up after a long fight than I had to think fast." He kicked the creature again, getting tired now.

Zar narrowed his eyes at the bull and in a moment of irritation, leapt forward to headbutt the thing square on. It was being an eventful day and he was growing weary of the delay.
It had a thicker skull than he did.
"They aren't designed for office work. I am not designed for office work. seducere ergo sum, I seduce, therefore I am. Office work was my sire's idea."

It was very nice to see the pair bond, and Calder slide over to Barth just as their conversation was getting interesting. "Seduction? What sort of seduction?" Calder said with a smile. "My kind is rather involved in that area as well."

"Oh? You know, that's very...interesting. Actually." Barth seemed thoughtful. "And yes. Calder's rather good at it. As I said, not my sin personally, but..."
Barth gave the bull another look.
"You know. Speaking of steering."
The thorns retracted.
"I think we'll be going now. You've been very err, rough and tough and we won't be coming back at all," he cleared his throat, gesturing to the portal with a tilt of the head.
Once out of range, he said, "I suggest if we run into any more fighting rocks, we...let them work themselves out. They don't seem all that bright anyway. We'll um, just be quieter on the return."
