"Gonna rotate," Harrison warned Jordan, stepping in to block the next blow from crashing into what he knew was Rep.

One moon, one death, two suns-

Jewels glittered from the fog, set in high, imperial crowns, eating the heads they rested on and climbing higher and higher, like iron gates. Jagged, glowing hands reached for B0nez...

"Bastards," Harrison growled, "can't be satisfied with their own territory, have to go for what's mine."

There was a reprieve of mere moments as Harrison distracted the long nails turned claws from striking him, he wanted to hide behind him until the terror passed. But realistically he knew it would not, the longer they fought the more it would fester and grow, the sharper those drawn out tainted features would become and the harder it would be to fight back the inertia that seemed to bog down every swing like tar.

He swung Tracey carefully, ignoring the shake of his hands as he threw his back into the motion. It connected levelly with the thing and he was so sure the sound it made of pain and rage was partially human.

Madison gritted her teeth and slipped back into the fog - two could play at the hide-and-seek game. The figure that had appeared before her seemed to melt away, even as her lungs continued to burn painfully. She could hear the others not too far away. Or were they? Maybe she was imagining that.

Shadows. She tensed, then relaxed just a tiny bit as a huge blade, glowing with runes, sliced through the fog, clearing it just enough for her to see the three men. They hadn't been too far away after all. She sprinted towards them in the brief gap of visibility, looking grim.

Something hissed and coiled over her, the shadow of - was it human? It looked, for a moment, like many humans, their limbs grotesquely interlocked and contorted into the silhouette of some sort of monster, each segment an individual body. She whirled and brought Kouki's twin blades around in an arc, putting all her strength into the strike. It was a solid hit, and Kouki hissed with pleasure as the elongated shape cleaved into two, its substance thinning to nothing before it could hit her or the ground.

She couldn't quite share her weapon's euphoria, though.

"Got it," Jordan answered. Any hit he took meant Rep was defended, or Maddie, and he was just fine with that. As if listening to his line of thought, claws slipped silently from the fog to rake across his back, and he spun with a growl to return the favor.

Harrison and Rep and Maddie were indistinct figures in the fog, but the glow of their weapons' runes picked them out, distinguishing them from the half-seen writhings and ghostly figures in the fog. The acrid smell of the gas permeated the scene, putting his nerves on edge.

"I'm rotating," Harrison said, giving Rep the same warning, and damn could they use some more defense-

We could, B0nez said, an eager glee creeping into the ghosts's voice. The volume was steadily growing, and it turned into a shout as B0nez's strangely-lit blade cut cleanly through the reaching fog and short of Madison.

I TOLD YOU, B0nez said, I'VE BEEN RESPECCING. The jewel glinted from a nest of wires.

He felt nauseous the longer he stood there, trying to focus through the fog with everything spinning around him. He'd sworn off acid for a reason and he'd swear off this s**t too, if he could. Lifting the axe up with more effort than it normally took lately, swaying a little, he eyed the creature up, noting it turn its attention back on him as soon as Harrison rotated off to defend elsewhere.

"It wisnae.." he stammered as it stood impossibly tall and simply pointed at him, eyes glinting cold blue in the billowing fog.

"DONT LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT." he roared, quite out of left field as he cleaved through at it. Most of the massive swing hit the cracked ground and cracked it further, but the tip of the spray of feathers was enough to drive the thing back.

Madison looked surprised when Harrison moved to defend her; a moment later, a wave of force boiled out of the fog, knocking her back a foot. Still, she could tell most of the impact had been deflected. "Thanks," she shouted, then cut hard to the left to drive Kouki's blades into a suspiciously darker area of shadow. As she'd expected, the blades found purchase. Whatever-it-was lashed and made a horrible scraping sound that sent chills down her spine.

Then it tore free, and she had no way of knowing which way it had gone. What was this thing?! Was it one being, or a mob, or...

Jordan jumped as he heard Rep shout, turned instinctively toward him, just in time to catch a hard shove to the chest from something invisible; it knocked the air out of him for a moment, and he had to step back to catch his breath.

The fog coalesced into a figure, a figure with its head half-shattered, and dread coiled in Jordan's stomach, a thread of panic starting to filter through his mind. No. It wasn't, it couldn't be, and he wasn't going to let it be - he spun to bring Ferros around full force into the shape, smashing it into tendrils of mist before it could become anything at all.

Ferros snarled, flaring with heat. He was ready.

They'd tried this once before, and the shot had sizzled out, but Harrison felt his thumb once again drawn to that trigger along B0nez's handle. He was used to aiming between the blades, and this was a different set of balances and aim.

He leveled the long blade forward, like a gun, arm outstretched and locked- runes danced, confused, with the glow from the foggy kings.

B0nez was with him though, eager. More defense. More power. The charge was intense, stronger than he'd ever felt, and when he pulled the trigger- one - he switched targets - two - energy still snapped down the blade, and Harrison didn't know what to expect, except he wanted the foggy kings to go straight to hell and for no part of them to be able to touch one ******** hair on any of his crew's heads. Three...

The balls hurtled through the fog, quivered, and broke, like bubbles. Too thin. Weak. He sneered, and turned the handles of his blades down.

The jewel pulsed.

If you want something done right... the electricity turned a haunting, painful blue, and it crept up his arms until all of him was a bright beacon of blue light.

The used charge left him drained, but he could still- he had been feeling so powerful, and yet...

He was in the wrong place. This was his fight, but... He watched with more curiosity than conviction as B0nez came up, and the fog barreled past it, and into Jordan. He pivoted, impossibly fast, but only because the world around him felt slow.

He held up the larger blade this time, testing. That, too, broke past him. A little less of it. B0nez's larger blade had always been the better defensive weapon. B0nez noted the discrepancy. He felt like he was watching B0nez watch himself watch B0nez.

Everything was in a blue haze.

He scanned the ruined Russian city, what he could see through the headache (also distant) and the twisting fear (just nightmares) not real kings. Little here was real, or of much consequence.

Tracey's runes were bloody. He could pick out that much. Ferros, too, glowed hot. The creature they were fighting was a weak son of a b***h, and whoever it served, it would be dead soon. It had never been a real threat. Harrison felt his knees bend a little, light on his feet, from what he realized was muscle memory. It was the same stance he used to catch baseballs. But that was before. Now he had responsibilities.

He couldn't be out here. He was putting everybody at risk. Where the ******** was his...?

Rep would be expecting...

He felt...

There was a lot of blue around, and it was quickly becoming a colour that didn't reassure the way the glow of runic tech always had but set him on edge. The artifical chemical fear didn't subside at all as he looked to Harrison backing him up with speed it was hard to track the eye on. He didn't know if it was the gas, or if he was looking at that same speed he'd seen in the showers.

an insistent voice cut in

Oh. Yeah. He'd almost forgotten for once, the rippling normally thrilling waves of adrenaline and power seeming weak and feeble up against the raw fear and anxiety that made it hard to think or move. Something wasn't right but there wasn't time to think about it because the creature had turned those eyes on him again and he was running.

He leapt up into the fog but not as high as he usually did, he couldn't let them out of his sight. Hesitance collided with Tracey's impatience and it was like they were pushing against one another rather than going towards the same end. When he hit the ground, the axe hit first, well wide of the mark.

And Harrison wasn't there to catch him.

What... what was going on? Wisps of alien color seemed to shine through the fog, but Madison couldn't figure out the source; Rep moved, away, and then up and down with a crash like a small earthquake. Had he hit something? She couldn't tell-

Focus, she reminded herself sharply, gritting her teeth as a coil of fog turned solid and snapped into her side like a whip. She pivoted and counterattacked immediately, but it was only a glancing blow.

Still, Kouki hissed with satisfaction as the runes on his blades brightened. Madison nodded grimly and tightened her grip on the swords. As soon as she spotted an opportunity...

... where was that light coming from?

.... Perfect.

Perfect was not a description. It was not an ideal, a desire, a passing belief. No, it was a tool, given to those who could wield power, given to those who could protect, given to those who understood exactly what was at stake, exactly what ticked under the system while everyone else worried about trivial things, about--

- Insanity. Trivial.

- Friends. Trivial. He was a king. He had -

- Missions. Trivial. Flawed and inconclusive. Results. He needed results. He craved -

Perfection.

The thick layer of dust had finally been stirred, particles in the air revealing what Harrison already knew, revealing what he anticipated but could not quite place in words. A doorway underneath the cobwebs and clutter. His name. He reached out and his crown felt fine.

He was-

Toshihiko Two

- HARRISON IS NOW KO'ED. In real time he simply collapses, desummoned weapon next to him. His body is fine, he's breathing, all vitals are fine, but he simply does not wake up.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:13 pm

Minmaxing. Efficiency. Perfection. B0nez spoke the language of the crown with rapid fluency, and when they stood, it was with presence.

They shook off the other world- the fake kings, the trivial s**t, the playing with approximations of danger, about as threatening as a late-night horror film, for the real game.

Of course, he had some preparations to make.

The door.

This time, he wasn't afraid of it. He knew what it was for. Who it was for. And this time, when he grasped the knob, it yielded.

He didn't expect anything less. It was his door.

Where you go-

They'd come too. He'd need them, he had a long haul if he was going to get what he wanted, what they truly wanted... he stepped through.

Harrison's body lay on the ground. It wasn't like he was new to swooning, and since the fog capitalized on fears, it wasn't too big of a leap to guess what had happened. Still. While he had talked before conking out, it hadn't been about bugs. Whatever the weird blue glow had been, it was gone.

Harrison lit up with a strange blue glow, and Jordan stared for a moment, jolted out of his focus by surprise and an uneasy apprehension - that was not the light of B0nez's runes, neither yellow nor sharp pink. The anomaly gave him a weird, sinking feeling.

The fog lashed out at him, slipping over B0nez's blade and snapping him back to the task at hand. Focus. Ferros roiled with heat, and there were shapes in the fog, and the shapes not lit by runes were his target. There was a twisting cluster of something nearby, its foggy features shifting and reforming. He struck out at it, and Ferros lit up with a roar and a snarl of flame.

But the step he took to bring them into range landed on a piece of ground that cracked sharply under his foot, throwing him to the ground. He rolled back to his feet, swearing, but Ferros's charge was gone and the foggy shape had retreated out of reach.
