DarenDaren's smirk grew. "You're right, we will. But I must warn you. I get up pretty early," He warned with a laugh. He was also determined on letting her sleep. "I can also knock you out with my thumb. So, still wanna wake up just to help with boxes?" He asked, still smirking. His smirk fell when she went back to the feather. "Maybe the bird kept itself clean," He said nervously. he was going to have a serious talk with Jerome. He let her take his plate and stood. "Well... Mind if I take a shower?" He asked. "I'm still pretty sore," He said, referring to when he had told her he was hurting the previous day. "I figure some hot water will do me good," He added with a smile. He frowned at the feather again. Secretly he was planning his own day as well. He had to go look for the demon. Forget job hunting. And what's worse is he couldn't let Sarabelle know anything. Wait. Why couldn't she know? He had never been told why. It just a "don't do it" kind of thing.

Belle couldn't help but laugh when Daren said he got up pretty early, wondering what early was her him. For her, normal was 8 AM and early was 5 AM, but she'd had friends who thought getting up early meant 10 AM. When he said he could knock her out with his thumb, she grinned and turned to him, saying jokingly, "I'd like to see you try." She giggled a bit and took his plate from him, rinsing it off and placing it in the dishwasher beside her own. She really thought it was funny that he "threatened" to knock her out though. She doubted he'd be able to, she was quick. When he asked if he could take a shower, she shrugged her shoulders and closed the door to the dishwasher, saying "Ya, that's fine with me. There's some spare towels in the closet in the bathroom. I've just gotta wash my face real quick before you go in there though so I can go to sleep." She smiled at him and grabbed the feather from the table, heading upstairs, followed close behind by Nikita.
Once she got upstairs, she set the feather on her desk and headed into the bathroom that sat between the two bedrooms. There was a door from each bedroom that led into the bathroom. She braided her hair back quickly to get it out of the way, then brushed her teeth and washed her face. Closing the bathroom door that led to her room behind her, she called out "Good night Daren!" She then closed the door to her actual bedroom as well and changed into a pair of pajama shorts and a tank top. She opened her bedroom door again, giving Nikki freedom to roam the house, though she normally slept on Belle's bed. Belle then crawled into bed after turning off the lights and setting her alarm for 6:30 AM, watching as Nikki jumped up on the bed next to her and made herself comfortable. Belle fell asleep by 10:30, not bothered at all by the shower or the light still on in the hall.

DarenDaren blinked. He hadn't known the other room was hers. The idea made him blush. He got over himself. "Good night!" He called as he entered the bathroom. He undressed and turned on the warm water. He then looked at the slits on his back. "Oh I hate everything," He muttered bitterly. Sure, he could put them off as torture from the people who held him prisoner, but he didn't have any other scars that were that long or so perfectly parallel. He huffed out a sigh before stepping into the shower. A groan of relief left him as the hot water hit his skin. He didn't stink, but it was never too soon to start his human hygiene. He sang softly to himself, being sure not to be loud. He didn't want to wake SaraBelle. After cleaning himself, Daren got dried off and went to get dressed in black athletic pants and a white t-shirt. He set his alarm for the time he was awake on the field: 5 AM. That was his normal time. But ya know, not in Heaven. He didn't have to sleep there. When you were dead, sleep was unnecessary. He didn't shut his door. He kept it open so he felt... safer. Why it was like that, he didn't know. At five in the morning, his alarm went off and he turned it off not too long after. Definitely soon enough that it wouldn't wake up SaraBelle. He got on the floor and did something he always did as a human: sit ups and pushups. It was a mini-work out that would keep him in shape. Once that was done, he went out to the living room and grabbed the boxes. There weren't that many. He could do it in two... maybe three... trips. He went on down to the basement, wondering where her stuff was supposed to go.

Belle slept soundly the entire night, but a rather common occurrence woke her in the early morning, around 5:30 AM. She bolted straight upright in bed, shaking and causing Nikki to wake up drowsily, her ears perked up on top of her head. The dog simply went back to sleep again after a moment though, used to these nightmares. Taking a few deep breaths and hugging her knees to her chest, she calmed herself and got out of bed, turning off her alarm. She was awake for the day now, no need to have it on anymore. She went to the bathroom and flipped on the light. Catching a glance of herself in the mirror, she could see she looked very pale and sighed gently, splashing some water on her face to wake herself up. She then turned off the light and walked out into the hall, noticing one of the boxes was gone. Grinning, she lifted one of the boxes and bounded down the stairs.
Seeing the basement door open, she grinned and called out with a small giggle "Good morning sunshine!" She sounded cheery enough as she bounced down the basement stairs, but her face was still pretty pale and she didn't have that normal spark in her eyes quite yet. It'd come back soon, but the nightmare was still fresh in her mind as of now. She grinned at Daren and walked past him with a bounce in her step, her long braided blonde hair bouncing against her back as she walked. She placed the box in a corner of her finished basement, then bounded back past him with a satisfied grin, heading back upstairs to get another box.

DarenDaren jumped a bit when she came down. "Sleepyhead? I should be calling you that," He said. "I was up at five," He announced with a laugh. He was holding about three boxes, but they were the books, so they were heavier. "Wanna do me a favor and show me to where... nevermind," He said with an impressed look. He put the boxes down and looked at her. He rushed ahead with a victorious laugh and got the rest of the boxes. "Lieutenant Daren wins this battle~" He confirmed before going back down to the basement. He looked at her. "What's wrong?" He asked when he got back, noticing how pale she was. He suspected a nightmare, but he wouldn't say for sure. "Little Ms. Belle had a bad dream," A woman's voice said from the corner of the living room. Daren jumped a bit. He looked over and saw a very... curvy... beautiful woman with bouncy black curls and big eyes, that were slowly going jet black. She laughed at Daren's face, which was an expression of fright and anger. "And now you wanna know why I came here. In front of her?" She asked, walking toward him. "Hm, you're mortal," She said thoughtfully. The idea made her laugh cruelly. "Daren is mortal!" She exclaimed. "Of course I'm mortal, you crazy woman. And yes I want to know what you're doing in her home," Daren said coldly. He bit his lip. This woman could ruin everything. He had to act ignorant and brave at the same time. "And how do you know me?" he asked. "Don't even start, Daren. They aren't going to do anything to you if she knows. Granted she'll think you're a total douche for lying and a total crazy person for saying you're fallen. But we can't all get the pretty catches, can we Daren?" The demon asked nonchalantly. "I'm here to get the little human's soul, you moron. And I wouldn't try to stop me now that your wings are gone. All your angel powers went right with them, didn't they?" She asked, poking out her lip. "You. Evil little..." Daren growled. "Don't think that just because you're in a girl's body that I won't kick you back to Hell for saying all of that," He hissed before stepping in front of SaraBelle with a cold look in his eyes.

Belle giggled a bit when Daren questioned her calling him a sleepyhead, saying that he got up at five. As she was heading back upstairs, Daren bolted past her, scooping up the remaining boxes. "Hey, no fair!" she called after him with another giggle, watching as he ran down the stairs calling out that he had won this battle. She just couldn't help but laugh as she stood at the top of the stairs. She walked downstairs to the living room, watching as Daren came back upstairs from the basement. When he came back and asked her what was wrong, she bit her lip gently, about to answer when a woman's voice came from the corner of her living room. She looked over to see a rather pretty, but harsh looking woman. She was taken aback by her blackened eyes however and kind of gasped a little, taking a small step back. She was about to yell at the woman, but she started talking even more, addressing Daren.
Belle looked up at Daren, fear starting to creep into her eyes. This woman was insane, appearing in her home and talking to Daren like she knew him well. The more the woman spoke though, the more it freaked Sarabelle out. When the woman said she was there to get the little human's soul, she could only assume that meant her soul. Awestruck, she fell silent for a moment before the look in her eyes changed from fear to anger. "Ok, what's going on here Daren? Angel powers, taking people's souls... what is she talking about?" she questioned, stepping beside Daren and looking to him for a moment. She then crossed her arms over her chest in an angry huff, no idea how dangerous this actual situation was. She literally thought that this woman was insane. "Ok, I don't know who you are or what you're talking about, but get outta' my house before I call the police!" Belle yelled at the woman, stepping closer to her and waving her cell phone around in the air like it was a valid threat.

DarenThe demon smiled evilly. "Yes, Daren, tell her all about those five little holes on your torso and chest. Tell her about what really happened when the United States refused to give the money that would have saved your life~" She said, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "And don't forget about how you were," her sentence was interrupted by a laugh, "how you were kicked out of Heaven." She was having fun with this. She could only laugh harder and smack the phone out of Belle's hand when the threat came her way. "You're crazy," Daren said simply, crossing his arms. Suddenly, he was snatched away by her and his shirt was literally torn off of him with ease. "Explain those to slits on your back if I'm so crazy," She hissed, showing SaraBelle. she then cleared her throat, still holding the struggling Derek like he was a child. "Well. I'm a demon. You're a human with a rather sweet soul. I want it," She announced. "Afterall, that's what demons do best~" She hummed. She glared down at Daren, "Now tell your part." Daren huffed. "Only if you'll lemme go," He muttered. The demon shrugged and let him go. Daren looked at SaraBelle. "Listen. She's really a demon. She's really after your soul. Now that that's out of the way," He began, standing in front of Belle as to protect her. "I was really a soldier. I really was a prisoner of war. That whole part of the story is one hundred percent true. Except... I... I was the first one to die. Five shots was what it took for me to bleed out," He informed her before stepping to the side to block the demon still. "I watched the other two men die after I left my body. And then.. I became an angel. Well, for a couple years it went great. Then, my final year, I got sick of it all. I lived my life by rules and more rules. I didn't want death to be the same. I started breaking rules. And I got my wings stripped... a-and I got shoved, literally, out of Heaven. What you saw me in on my first day here wasn't a costume. That was what I was in when I died. I did really just lose my home. But it wasn't because of money problems. It was because I really had been slacking. And I wasn't supposed to tell you any of this. But I am. Because a certain demon just ruined it... Any way... I've got to save a human. and I chose you. Because you're the kindest, purest person I've seen, Belle. You took me in when I was on the snowy streets. You bought my food for me, and everything. I couldn't have found a better soul to protect. And now my point has been proven. Those feathers you have? Those are from my friend Angel-- Jerome. The shouting that caused Nikita to go crazy. That was me and him. He was warning me about this demon. And yeah that's about it..." He confirmed, looking down. "If I save you, I get my wings back... kinda. I gotta work my way up. I'll be a guardian and I get to watch over a human. But for now I'm mortal. As mortal as you. And there's a very powerful demon behind me waiting to kill us both," He informed her with a weak smirk. He suddenly jumped and pulled Belle behind him. "I still know Latin!" He exclaimed. "I could exercise you," He hissed. This actually made the demon stall in her approach toward them.

Belle listened to the insane woman talk about Daren's scars and his time in the military. She wouldn't know that unless she knew him, and that scared her a bit. When she mentioned him being kicked out of heaven, she crinkled her brow, majorly confused. As her phone was smacked out of her hand, she flinched a bit, taking a step back. Although she didn't like to admit it, this woman really scared her. She was about to yell at her again when she suddenly snatched up Daren and tore off his shirt, so quickly she barely saw her movements. That was not humanly possible. "Let him go!" she shouted at the demon, grabbing the iron fire poker... or whatever it was called... and wielding it like she actually knew how to injure someone with it, which she didn't at all. When she saw the slits the demon was showing her on Daren's back however, she kind of froze where she stood, staring. She was holding Daren easily, and he was strong... which made her begin to accept there was something very wrong going on here.
Just then, Nikita came bounding down the stairs, the hair raised on her back, and growling angrily. Belle caught her by the collar, afraid the woman would hurt her if Nikki lunged at her, and made her sit. Nikki obeyed, but paced around Belle, growling harshly, teeth bared. Belle shivered a bit when the woman said she wanted her soul, wielding her make-shift weapon again, not liking the sound of that. When the demon released Daren and he stood before her, explaining things, she relaxed a bit, holding the iron rod down to her side and staring at him. She listened intently, the expression on her face unreadable. She really just didn't know how to react to all of this and she wasn't even given a moment too, since he suddenly leaped and grabbed her, pushing her behind him before she could speak. Nikki shifted where she stood, baring her teeth at the demon as she stood beside Daren, only not attacking because Belle told her not to.
Belle held her iron rod tightly in her hands again, her muscles tense as she stood behind Daren, tears welling up in her eyes. He'd lied to her, multiple times, but did he really have a choice? Would she have believed him if he walked into the cafe saying he was a fallen angel? No, not at all. And seeing the slits in his back close up, it all seemed so true. She didn't know what to say in response though, as she was scared out of her mind, and she swallowed hard, staying quiet. She really just didn't know quite what to say in response to all that and was afraid to speak.

Daren just looked tensed. He didn't care if she didn't know how to respond, or if she was "scared" of him. He only cared that she was in danger. He suddenly jumped the demon, pinning her down by her wrists. The second he started to speak in Latin, he was kicked brutally in the gut. "Oh that hurts," He gasped out, squeezing his eyes tight.
"That's right, Daren. It hurts again, right? You're not used to that," The demon taunted. She laughed maniacally and drove her six inch Stiletto into his gut again, but Daren wouldn't let her go. She growled now. "What is it? You think you can handle it because you were in the army, buddy-boy?" She asked, glaring at him.
"Not really," Daren said with a bitter chuckle. "But a kick in the stomach isn't worth letting you get her soul," He hissed. He was starting to wonder how he was pinning her if she was so much stronger than him. But he let the worries drift away as he started speaking in Latin again.
The demon gasped and she looked up at Daren. "You realize I'll just possess some other piece of meat? It could be someone close to her too. You haven't saved that girl until I'm back in Hell," She said before suddenly throwing him. Daren hit the wall with a loud thud and felt the air leave him. He fell on all fours, trying hard to get his breath back. This was interesting now that he couldn't do anything. The demon glared at him and snatched the iron rod away from SaraBelle. "Thank you, dear," She said before going over to Daren and hitting him over the back roughly. Daren's cry satisfied her. Daren's mouth was moving though. He was saying the incantation silently. She hit him again and he cried out again and fell flat, but he kept going, making her freeze and clutch her chest. He was actually doing it. He was getting the demon out of the woman despite the fact that she kept hitting him over the back and head. He finally got the final word out and passed out with a tiny groan. Meanwhile, a black substance was leaving the girl's body and vanishing slowly. No, it wasn't going to Hell; it was finding someone else. Daren still had a lot of work to do before he became a Guardian for Belle, and it was going to be a long, long road.

When Daren dove at the demon, Belle had to grab Nikita again to hold her back again, not wanting her dog to go after the demon. Belle watched, frozen in her spot, as Daren pinned the woman down, than was kicked in the gut. She flinched a bit and gripped her iron rod tighter, honestly not knowing what to do with herself. She wasn't actually going to hit anyone with it, she couldn't do that. She simply watched from where she stood, gently releasing Nikki's collar again when she had determined she wasn't going to throw herself in harm's way. She whimpered gently when the woman kicked him again, suddenly moving to go grab her phone. When she found it however, it was broken and useless and she dropped it on the floor in a huff of frustration, turning back to see how Daren was faring only to be confronted by the Demon, who promptly snatched her weapon from her.
She tried to hold onto it, but to no avail. When the demon used what Belle had been trying to use to protect herself on Daren, whacking him hard across the back, she whimpered and Nikita growled angrily, pawing at the carpet. "Stop! Just leave him alone!" she yelled helplessly, about to tell the demon to just take her and leave him alone when the woman suddenly clutched her chest, freezing in place. "Daren..." she whimpered gently, taking a step closer as something black started seeping from the demon. Nikita stopped growling and hurried over to Daren, flopping down by his side and staring at him intently. Belle hurried over and crouched down next to him on the ground, her tears flowing gently. "s**t, Nik, we need to get him to the hospital or something." she said worriedly, inspecting his wounds without touching him. She then jumped up from where she sat and got her home phone, dialing 9-1-1. She made up some story about a home invader and soon enough, she heard sirens coming down the street.
"Okay, you're going to be alright, I promise." she said gently, crouching next to him and brushing a lock of hair away from his face, tears flowing gently down her face. She looked up as the EMT's entered, removing the girl and then moving to Daren. Telling Nikita to stay and that she'd be back soon, Belle rode in the ambulance to the hospital with Daren and although she didn't want to leave him, she waited outside in the waiting room. She called off her nanny job for the day and sat in one of the seats in the waiting room, waiting for them to release him or let her see him. After an hour or so, she accidentally fell asleep in the chair.

D A R E N - * - H E I G H T S Daren stirred a bit in the ambulance. He looked up at Belle. "Huh... Where we going?" He asked in a slurred voice. He had blood staining his hair from a hard hit to the head. He groaned a bit when he realized they were going to the hospital. "No. I'm fine," He protested, going to move, but the medic held him down. "I said I'm fine!" Daren exclaimed in exasperation as the ambulance came to a halt.
"How many fingers am I holding up then?" The medic asked, holding up four.
Daren blinked and squinted. "Well if you stopped moving, I could tell you," He muttered.
"Kid, I ain't moving. You're getting that head checked out," the medic said with a sigh. Daren wasn't pleased with this. I took bullets for you idiots. The least you could do is lemme go, he thought stubbornly. It was pretty obvious that he hated hospitals just by the look in his eyes. He crossed his arms as he was willed to the ER. In his mind, as blurry as it might have been, he didn't need this and it was going to be on a bill that he couldn't pay. Well, thirty minutes later, he was actually in an inpatient room, demanding to know why.
The doctor huffed. This kid was actually kind of annoying. "Look. We just wanna make sure there's no major brain damage. you can go tomorrow if there isn't. Alright?" He asked, shaking his head. "Any way. You have a girl here waiting on you... but I'm going to go on and send her home. She fell asleep," He said. Daren blinked. Belle was there? Still? Even after learning what she knew? That amazed him. "No wait.. can you bring her in for a bit?" He asked. He blinked at the sudden weight he felt on his head and groaned when he felt bandages.

Belle slept soundly out in the waiting room chair despite everything that was going on. She just had a bad habit of falling asleep places she shouldn't, especially when she had nothing to do. Maybe that was partially why she kept her days so busy, so she wouldn't randomly fall asleep. Soon enough though, she felt someone touch her shoulder lightly, telling her to wake up. Groggily, she sat up a little straighter and rubbed her eyes. Once she opened them, she blinked a bit before going a little pink in the cheeks. "Oh, I'm sorry, did I fall asleep, I didn't mean to... is he alright?" she kind of blurted out all in one jumble of a sentence, watching the nurse with wide eyes. The nurse nodded, smiling at her gently. It was then that Belle remembered she was only wearing her plaid pajama shorts and a white beater with a blanket someone at the hospital had given her to keep warm. She blushed a bit more at that thought, feeling silly.
"He's awake now, he asked to see you." the nurse said gently, helping Belle up out of the chair and walking down the hall to Daren's room. Belle clutched the blanket around herself and ignored some of the stares she was getting from random people in the hospital for her outfit and slightly messy bed head hair. When they reached Daren's room, the nurse nodded at her, saying "Go ahead in, he might be a bit tired though." Belle nodded and walked through the door to his room. Seeing Daren with bandages on his head laying in the hospital bed, tears welled up in her eyes, everything that happened this morning flashing back in her mind. Swallowing hard, she walked over to him and sat on the edge of his bed, near the bottom, just kind of staring at him for a minute. "Are you alright?" she finally asked softly, knowing that he wasn't, but not quite sure what else to say.

D A R E N - * - H E I G H T S Daren was absently flipping through the television channels. "Hospitals never have any good channels," He noted, frowning all the while. On the bright side, he wasn't in one of those stupid gowns. He got to be in their pajama pants and a white t-shirt. "Seriously. I hate these places," He said to himself since no one was in the room. He looked over when Belle came in. He went to sit up, wincing a bit as his back rubbed on the mattress. "Oh, hey..." He said, smiling a bit. He frowned again when he saw the tears in her eyes. "I'm fine, really," He insisted, rubbing his head absently. "Just got reminded of how careful I'll have to be. Human bodies are so pointlessly breakable," He said, wincing as he shrugged.
"Apparently they're worried about brain damage, but I don't think there is any. I'm not even tired or dizzy... Sore? Yeahhh, but nothing else," He told her looking at the sheets. He didn't remember some of the fight, but that woulda been normal. He did, however, remember telling her about him. The thought made him bite his lip. "I'm really sorry I lied to you, Belle... I was told that I had to. Obviously nothing is going to happen now that I did, though. That kinda agitates me," He said, looking around. He half expected Jerome to pop in, saying he had to spend the lest of his life as a mortal; he'd never get his wings again. Part of him wouldn't mind, but then the rest of him knew he had spent his time on Earth and he didn't want anymore.

Belle rubbed her eyes to keep the tears at bay. She was worried about him, but that wasn't the cause of the tears. She was scared, terrified actually. And her fear was the reason that she just wanted to start crying right then and there. But she just sniffled and rubbed her eyes before looking back at him again, hearing him talk about how he was reminded human bodies were so breakable. It was weird to hear him talking about humans like he wasn't one... which he wasn't, or was? What was a fallen angel considered? He seemed pretty human to her.
When he started apologizing for lying to her and saying he thought was going to get in trouble for telling the truth. She wrapped her blanket around her a bit tighter and bit her lip, her eyes glimmering with tears as she watched him. Finally, she let out a shaky sigh and said softly "I'm not angry with you for lying, what were you supposed to do, tell me you were a fallen angel?" Shaking her head and wiping at her eyes again, she added "I would've thought you were crazy, but now..." She buried her head in her hands and stifled a small whimper, trying to collect herself again.
After another moment or so, she looked up at him and rubbed her eyes again. They were looking a little red from the tears she had let go. "I'm really scared Daren." she admitted quietly. She was a strong willed person and she wasn't a chicken, but this terrified her. Demons and angels were unknown territory and the fact that a demon was after her soul scared her a lot more than anything else she'd faced in her life. She knew she was going to have nightmares about this, which would cause her to get even less sleep than usual.

D A R E N - * - H E I G H T S Daren blinked. He was so... ugh. "I would be pretty mad at me if I were you," He said quietly, laying back down slowly. He frowned at the term "fallen" angel. Even if he was one. He didn't like it. "They didn't have to turn me mortal, though... How am I supposed to fight demons if all I can do is say stuff in Latin?" He asked, closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose. "And of course this didn't count as saving you... I have to find some way to kill it... Which won't be easy. At all..." He murmured, his voice sounding strained. When he opened his eyes, he saw that she looked ready to cry, and she was saying that she was scared. "Hey... hey, don't be scared," He said, sitting and going to sit next to her. "I'm here. And I'm gonna protect you, Belle. Head injury or not," He told her with a kind smile. "But uh... ya know... I'm gonna have to be around you. A lot," He informed her."Now... I could do it in secret and watch from afar. I won't interfere with anything. I'll simply watch for the demon. Or I could actually work in the cafe. Help you babysit, run with you and pretty much be by your side; twenty-four seven. Something tells me you wouldn't like the latter," He said with a small laugh," He finished.
Suddenly, Jerome walked in, wearing a business suit. "Daren..." He said, looking concerned. "Well, I came to deliver a message," He informed the injured teen. "Basically, I've been told to tell you Belle is the only one to know who you really are. Any one else learns, and you'll be stuck here. You won't ever be able to get your wings," He said, his voice grim. "But that wasn't even my fault! The demon told her!" Daren protested, flinching and holding his head. Jerome nodded, "Which is why you've been given this warning. For one thing you obeyed, no one saw that coming. And another thing is that you didn't want to tell her." He was so formal now. It was clear he didn't like this situation. "Daren, be more careful. You know your limits," Jerome warned. "Then give me an advantage other than exorcism," Daren muttered, crossing his arms.
