(( Tesla -- Drinks ))
Tesla was rather preoccupied, but thankfully, she always had her wits about her (such was the case when it came to having five sisters); she was startled out of her mulling thoughts as Eli almost crashed into her, turning sharply to the side with a snap of her cloak, her green eyes wide. As the man and his friends continued to talk, she offered him and Odell a bewildered smile, glancing to Magnolia as well. "I'm -- I'm fine, thank you," she found her manners, "you just caught me off guard." To make sure there were no hard feelings, she added lightly, "I've been jostled so much just to get this far, at least you were kind enough to speak a word about it, hm?"

[[ Eli - Drinks ]]
Eli turned to Tesla with a broad smile. "I'm relieved that you're alright, miss. I'm often horribly clumsy. Woolgathering, you see." He studied the lady. Green eyes, red hair, what a virago! Eli rather liked the combo and chuckled when he realized her eyes matched his vest. Unfortunately, it was far too cold to be gallivanting about in only a vest, so no one knew except for him.
"If you'd like, I can fetch you a drink? As an apology. I'm on my way to get one for the lady over there as well." Here he waved in Magnolia's direction. Where Magnolia seemed young and vaguely innocent, this lady was, well, she seemed like a hard day's work would be nothing to her: a doer, an enabler. Like she didn't just let the world happen to her, but she aided it. "She's partial to coffee and mulled wine apparently. I'm for cider, myself. I'm Eli Haddock, by the way, Miss...?"

(( Tesla -- Drinks ))
"Then you've found a kindred spirit. Don't worry, sir, I assure you I am no worse for the wear." Lightly bowing her head, she even managed a slight curtsy, standing upright again before she could be jostled. It was a little unusual for her to have to tilt her head back a bit to look him in the eye, but he seemed like a nice enough sort -- especially when he started offering a drink to make up for something he never did. Tesla laughed, light and generous, looking somewhere between embarrassed and not really sure how to handle herself. It wasn't the first time she'd had someone offer to buy her a drink, but it was the first time it was a gentleman.
Glancing over to Magnolia when she was indicated, she offered the woman a similar slight-curtsy before returning her attention to the man that was being so very generous. "Aevah's breath, I don't think I've ever had such good fortune to run into someone so kind." The woman smiled, toying with the fur tie of her cloak, wondering if she should accept -- but it was only polite. "No Miss -- I'm just a humble farmer's daughter, Sir Haddock. I'm Tesla Grey." She would have curtsied again, but she didn't want to over-do it; she wasn't so up-and-up on how to interact with those who were genteel and used to the city; as it was, she only came to deliveries and orders. "I -- I was to purchase a hot cider myself and a chocolate for my -- " ah, how did one describe Nolan? " -- ward, but please Sir, feel not the need to go out of your way on my behalf!"

(( Ziya & Fintan ~ Entrance ~ Headed to ornament stalls))
Ziya couldn't help but chuckle as he listened to the children chatter about manners. Seems like Fintan was in good company on that front. Looking around for a moment, he noticed the adults had hung back. Not that he minded, he'd keep an eye on them. He figured they were all more then able to take care of themselves but he'd stick close to them to try and keep them out of trouble. So he followed quietly behind Nolan, Aric, the white winged boy and Fintan quietly to bring up the rear.
The grin the phoenix's face grew when the others agreed with him, making him feel like he was the one int he right. He was really and if he wasn't then people would have disagreed with him right? 'So where are we heading exactly?" Fintan asked, looking at the crowds of people with a frown. Ugh, this truly was hateful, he didn't understand this holiday at all, the only other holiday that he disliked more was Valentines day. Now that was a dumb holiday.

(( Nadyris & Amadeo - Entrance - Headed to Drinks ))
This place was magical.
At least for one of the odd twosome.
Nadyris was wearing a large, black button-up coat, the hood notably not pulled up, something that Amadeo noted was a sign of a good mood, as the mercenary almost self-consciously would shroud himself in that jacket if feeling the least bit apprehensive about the situation. He'd been holding his charge's hand for a few brief seconds at the entrance, before the blond boy yanked his fingers away abruptly...tearing off from the entrance to storm his way through the crowd, dodging around people, his long, crimson coattails flying, the dustling half-clad now as he always was, for he was never cold. The brown leather boots on his feet only covering his toes upon Nadyris' staunch insistence that he wasn't going out into this weather barefoot.
The dust had, however, sighted his violin teacher, and if Odell was here, then perhaps Samara was as well...that coupled with the possibility of getting something to eat or drink spurred him on. He could hear his beleaguered guardian calling his name behind him, and tilting head over his shoulder, the golden-haired dust smirked widely. Nadyris was keeping up.
He was always able to keep up.

[[ Eli - Drinks ]]
Well, well, this town was interesting, Eli mused. The lady seemed a bit nervous, all country gentility. It was charming, in a way. Every fiddle with the fur collar of her cloak, her small curtsies, her slightly embarrassed mien, it set Eli at ease. He had been worried when moving to this town. He didn't know why; he had moved before. But before, he'd been a young man of 23. Here he was, a respectable gentleman of 32, nervous about a new start in an unfamiliar town. But people were people after all. Wherever he went, people stayed the same. It was a comforting thought, comforting and somehow disappointing. Ah, well, maybe this town will be different after all. He'd already met some... characters, he mused, thinking of Friday and Lemon and the library.
"I am relieved I did you no harm." And he was. It doesn't do to go about smacking into people, although he'd done it before. Eli was a bit shocked at her mention of a ward. Surely, this young lady wasn't old enough to have a child who could wander off? He searched Tesla's face, but found few of the telltale wrinkles he usually associated with mothers. Perhaps she was watching a child for someone else, he mused, Perhaps she'd simply had the child at a very young age. It wasn't his place to judge or speculate, especially when his own mother had married at the age of 16,
He threw a lopsided grin at Tesla and bowed low. "If you are not a Miss, than Lady Grey it is, though I am no sir. If you wish, just call me Eli." Finishing his bow with a light flourish, he stepped back up to the stall. Luckily, Eli had just finished his own cider and was able to carry three cups easily. Big hands. He hesitated, and decided to bring Magnolia her requested wine first. He placed the wine in her gloved hands and smiled. She had said she was an academic, hadn't she? "Miss Magnolia, remind me to catch up with you later. I find myself interested in your academic studies. Mr. Barnes, I have enjoyed your company. Let me know when you've next a concert." He winked jovially at her and Odell before threading the short way through the crowd back to Tesla's side.
"Ah, Lady, for long I have trekked to retrieve your exilirs" Eli said dramatically, holding her cider to his heart for one moment, "but I have returned victorious to you." He passed over her cider first, debating a second. Ah, just go for it. "If you'd like, I can help you locate your ward. I seem to have eyes above the crowd." Eli chuckled warmly. So far, the tallest people he'd met had still been a good four inches below him. Friday had been a short little thing (he smiled, thinking about the odd-tempered man), and Odell, while taller, still didn't match him. Eli looked out over the crowd; he didn't see anyone else with hair that matched the lady's own gorgeous locks, but the people around! It was a feast for the eyes. Although Eli knew people were manipulating most of the time, he couldn't help but be caught up in the easy-going cheer surrounding the faire. There, a woman fought with her child, trying o make him wear gloves, and there, two young men were forcing their way towards the drink stand, and there, a flash of red coat as a child darted away from presumably his father and he chased after [Amadeo & Nadyris]. Ah, so many new people!

((Odell - Drinks, Samara - Ornaments to Drinks))
Odell chuckled as he took a seat with Ms. Jameson, sipping his warm cider. Eli seemed quite happy with all the social interaction, Odell prefered to observe unless directly asked a question. Which came from the lady at his side. His smile was warm as he thought of the young girl who had so magically appeared in his life. It had all happened so quickly he hadn't realized how long he had been with her.
"Yes, her name is Samara. She was quite excited, this being her first festival. I let her off to do some shopping, which seems to be her favorite activity these days," he chuckled. "Though I am a bit bemused by her behavior, for I have only recently entered fatherhood."
He nodded to Eli as he moved off to join another woman in the crowd. Then he heard the shuffle and scuffle of people moving out of the way of a very determined young man. The shock of blonde hair coupled with golden eyes and a red jacket meant it could be only one person, Amadeo. His fired-up pupil. And behind him, the ever handsome Nadyris. Odell smiled and looked at the woman next to him.
"It seems you will get to meet one of Samara's friends and a pupil of mine," then seeing his daughter approaching, "as well as my daughter."
~~~~~~~~~~
Samara had been agonizing over the best present to get her Papah the entire time but she finally picked out a beautiful red poinseta flower with a blue ribbon. The red reminded her of her hair while the blue of her father's. She pointed at the object she desired, giving the stall worker a big smile and thanking him for helping her give a good gift for her Papah.
Clutching her present she walked back to the drinks area, looking for the shock of blue hair that was her Papah. She finally spotted him at a table where her Papah was talking to someone. She smiled and waited politely until her father spoke to her. "Here Papah! I bought you a present!" she presented the flower to him which he took with a smile.
"Thank you my dear, it is quite lovely. Samara, this is Ms. Jameson. Madam, my daughter Samara," he made introductions while admiring the presnet his daughter had given him. Ah he was lucky for such a caring and loving daughter.
Samara gave the woman a curtsy, even in her heavy red coat. The golden yellow edges gave a flash to it as well as the golden yellow maple leaves decorating her long red hair.
"Samara, we shall have more company in just a moment," he pointed to the direction of the two coming towards them.
"Hmm?" she turned to look but smiled brightly at the sight of her friend, for everyone was her friend, approaching. "Hi Amadeo! Hi Mr. Nadyris!"
Magnolia waved back with slight interest, all but beaming at Eli when he handed her the mulled drink, sniffing it experimentally and tilting her head to regard the man. Interesting that he might galavant off after showing so much interest in this violinist. But it mattered not to her any any sort of occasion. She was tickled. Social gatherings were quite fun indeed, weren't they?
"I'm glad you are all right," She directed towards Tesla, a small nod indicating she really was indeed grateful. Must look the part. It would be a shame had the woman been trampled.
She turned back towards Eli, yes she was an academic. She pursed her lips through a smile, adjusting the hair on her shoulders and readjusted her scarf. She loved her work and would jump at any opportunity to rattle on about it. If the man was truly interested he must attend one of her lectures.
"The academy offices in the center of town," she started, pulling out her notebook and jotting her office location down and the times and places she gave her lectures.
"My colleagues and I reside here on any normal day. Wednesdays at three, I give a public colloquium, I'm sure you'll attend one week?" She asked, a single shoulder hitching up in a coquettish manner. She passed the paper to him after tearing it out with her teeth- shant spill the gift of mulled wine.
He waved him off and turned back to her companion for the moment. Sipping her drink. He spoke with the air of new adoration. As if still settling into the parenting scene. The face he had was kind and she nodded, eyes scanning for said daughter and friend.
"Samara," She tried on her tongue and watched the child approach. Brilliant red hair- Magnolia supposed that the new found genetics were faulty and one professor should continue his thesis. Unless she was adopted. Or it was recessive. Maybe it's dominant-- blue was such a new hair color to her. She took a breath and stopped herself from analyzing- bending slightly to be at the girl's level once she was introduced.
"Actually it's Ms. Kaufman~" She said to Samara, looking back at her father, "I fear you heard the end of a joke and that must have provided you with confusion."
She turned back to Samara and regarded her with soft eyes. She loved children, so ready to learn- empty vessels.
"Actually it's Dr. Kaufman but you, and you father," she tacked on, "May call me Magnolia. It's only fair if I may regard you by your first name you should have the same right, no?"
Magnolia was so warm inside, looking over the pretty decorations in her hair and to her thick red coat. She was a beautiful girl.
Magnolia adapted a mischievous grin and bent again to Samara. Oblivious to the blatant disregard of Odell. She spoke as if this was a special message to the little girl.
"I think your hair is very pretty," Magnolia paused looking up at the blackened sky, voice brimming with childlike excitement and a smile splitting her face in two, "Do you like the stars, Samara?"
(( Alfons & Konstantin - Entrance ))
He didn't recognize anything while Alfons firmly recognized no one. This was a yearly spectacle but one that the wolf child had never been privy to. Since his guardian lived in this floating city all his life, he was well acquainted but less than thrilled. Far less. The two entered, wrapped and bundled, side by side. Alfons was glad the child in his care was wearing a scarf that was slung over his shoulder so he could grab onto it like a leash at any moment.
The blond man stood tall over his dark skinned charge, himself wrapped in a black peacoat and slack ensemble accentuated by fancy and polished leather shoes with pointed toes. His younger companion was wrapped head to toe in browns and reds, coats and pants too large for him, a hood that shadowed a good deal of his face while the rest was shielded by a mess of black hair. The most attention drawing part of his appearance was just how bright his blue eye was against his dark skin and the rest of his appearance, while the other eye was covered by a cloth wrap. Red half-fingered gloves sat well upon his hands, the fingers removed due to his sharp looking nails. His feet were completely obscured by by pants that were too long and they ruffled each time he walked, kicking up the slightest bit of fallen snow.
Every light, tinkle of an ornament, scent of food, giggle of children, and slosh of a drink hit Konstantin's senses and, beneath his coat, there was a slight thumping sound. One pale hand reached out and grabbed the end of Konstantin's red scarf, which tightened around his face and neck. Alfons stepped closer, not releasing his grip, and leaned down with a hushed voice.
"Be careful with that thing. You draw too much attention to yourself," he hissed, waiting for confirmation from the child before letting go. It came in the form of puppy dog eyes and a single hurried nod. Once free, Kon's hands fiddled with the scarf to make it a bit looser, both for his own comfort and in case Alfons wanted to do that again.
"Where do we go?" Kon's scratchy voice mumbled, though he looked excited and expectantly up at his human.
"Good question," Alfons reached up to brush a piece of hair from one of his eyes, "I don't even know why we're here."
Konstantin's posture slipped, arms falling to his sides and shoulders slumping. A sharp sound pushed through Alfons' teeth when he realized what the kid was doing. Pouting. He grumbled, shoving both hands into his pockets to keep them cool. Though he had leather gloves on as well, the material was thin inside.
"I don't care. You pick."
The Dust child lit up immediately, raising his gaze once more and, again, there was a subtle thump beneath his coat but a stern eye stop it quickly enough. He was going to get to lead this venture. What an honor. What fun! ...But seriously, where to start?!
( Venice - Entrance, heading towards ornamental stalls. )
Venice sighed, following the merry group with some form of hesitance. It was not that he didn't mind company, just that the company he was with seemed almost... bizarre. "Just ignore the stupidity around you," Wren had said to him once when he'd complained, "and make up for it with your own intelligence. No one else will." Venice's gaze flickered to Aric with a level of cool indifference. "Is that so." His tone was gentle and lilting, a princely sort of demeanor coating his words. "I've heard that good company is often hard to find."
He let out a slightly exasperated noise when Fintan responded, his eyes steeling. "Unless you are looking for ways to expand your personal vocabulary, I do not see any way in which changing the way you say hello to create a more vibrant course of conversation." His lips parted into a soft rumble. "You would be far more successful in your endeavors if you were to change the questions you asked following a greeting. How are you is the most boring conversation starter ever." He ruffled his wings with mild superiority, turning his head away from Fintan. The boys sardonic nature was not lost on him, and his own neutrality towards the dust was certainly being tested.
"I am not inclined towards any one destination." Venice responded, glancing at Nolan with mild intrigue. The dragon was by far the oddest of their bunch - from the scales on his skin to the odd coloration of his eyes. "Conversing is - " He paused, pondering the word. "Fascinating, with the right person." His lips pulled into a thin line. "It is better than rolling around in the dirt with fists and claws to convey meaning." Venice's wings expanded and contracted as though to display his distaste towards the idea. "Manners, however, are boring." Venice plucked a loose feather from one of his wings and examined it with mild disinterest. "What conversation can you have when they always get in the way? Useless things."
Don't get Venice started on the etiquette of conversation, Nolan. Don't do it. Don't.
( Krinn - Entrance, being dragged away into the abyss. )
Meanwhile, the Rain Dust didn't have a chance to do anything before he was forcibly wrangled towards the games booths by interfering peasants.
Rest in peace, Krinn.
Rest in peace.
Jasper had just finished his deliveries and his boss decided to let him have the holidays off. "So...what do I do with the entire holiday off? Most of my friends are busy with family." Jasper took a moment to think upon his options. "Maybe the festival? Yeah, sounds like a plan." On his way to the festival, he stopped by his house. He went to the backyard and called for his fiery blue hound. He figured Jax would enjoy a little stroll through town.
((Jasper-foods)) They entered together, getting a few stares for the odd creature covered in a blue fire. Jasper of couse didn't really mind, they were only looking because a hellhound isn't exactly normal. Suddenly Jasper felt a nudge at his hand. His young hellhound was hungry. "Alright boy alright. I hear ya. The food stall is right over there." Jasper immediately guided his pet over to the food stall and ordered some simple burgers for the hound and a hotdog for himself. "Here you go boy."
Jasper moved out of the way, leaning against a wall as he and Jax ate. He looked around at the crowd at all the people walking about the square, some alone, some in groups. As he watched, he thought about that lady he'd met recently, Nikiana, and wondered if she might show up to the festival.
Jasper adjusted the blue scarf curled around his neck like a sleeping snake. As he continued to fiddle with his scarf Jasper spotted a man and young child{Alfons & Konstantin} enter and sit at a lone bench. Jasper couldn't help but watch them, especially when the young child rose up and gave an expression of pure joy and disbelief. Jax had apparently been watching them as well, because the next thing he knew, the moving blue fire was between them and Jasper, "No! Wait boy! Stay!" It was too late, Jax had made it to the young boy and stood right infront of him, wagging his tail, making sure the boy wouldn't leave.
"Oh jeez I'm sorry, is he bothering you? Come here boy." Jasper was bewildered, the hound had never done such a thing before, "He's usually very well behaved. I don't know what's come over him."
(( Nadyris + Amadeo - Drinks ))
Amadeo hadn't so much as a proper greeting for his violin teacher, the blond dustling straight and to the point in usual fashion. "Is Samara here?" Proving that the boy's priorities lay with the lass that was his age and not this lot of adults. Shifting uncomfortably in the confines of his boots, he canted his head up towards his tutor, a brow raising as though he could usher on the man's reply.
Which was about the time that Nadyris arrived, breathing a touch heavily and frowning softly at his charge. "Amadeo..." It was disappointment, and the boy grimaced at the tone, just a flicker of the expression appearing on the younger's face before he sighed softly...about to make apology, before Samara appeared, and the entire conversation was quite derailed.
"Hey, Samara." The wild-haired youngling made his way up to her, waving. "How's the festival?" He, after all, had just arrived, and was curious if this Wintertide shenanigan was going to be any real fun.
"Hello, Samara...Odell..." Nadyris gave a half-bow to Odell, half in greeting and the other portion entirely comprised of apology for his precocious son. "Sorry about him. A pleasure seeing you out and about on a day like today." Somehow the violinist always made the mercenary feel like behaving in a fashion that was just a touch more formal. Glancing to those about him, having been aware of their presence, he nodded in acknowledgement to Eli, Magnolia, and Tesla. Polite, even if some of them might be too engrossed in their own affairs to notice.
((Odell and Samara - Drinks))
Odell bowed once corrected about Magnolia's name. He had indeed come in on part of the conversation. But he was glad his daughter seemed quite happy to meet the woman. She needed more females in her life, for it seemed all those like her were male. Odell sometimes regretted he couldn't give her a proper mother like other children but she never seemed to comment on it. "Ah, pardon Ms. Magnolia. I am glad to have been corrected."
Samara giggled as her Papah was corrected. He rarely made mistakes in her young eyes, he was always so perfect. The red head smiled brightly at her as she complimented her hair, having a bit of vanity to her considering her love of new clothes and shopping. "Thank you Ms. Magnolia! I like my hair too."
At the question reguarding the stars she blinked for a moment then looked up at the sky. She couldn't see many stars with all the lights of the festival, but sometimes she would stand out on the little balcony at look at the vast number of little dots in the sky. "Papah says they are wishes, the wishes of those with pure intentions. They are in the sky becase its closest to the gods. When they hear a wish and grant it, the wish falls back to earth like a shower of sparkles. That way everyone knows a good wish has come true."
Her green eyes sparkled with childish wonder at the story. Odell just smiles, while it was not truly accurate Sarama was a lover of fantasy tales of princeses, dragons, and fairies. Suddenly her friend Amadeo was besides her, her smile brightened more. "Hi Amadeo! Its so much fun! But I'm hungry! Papah, can I have some hot chocolate."
"Of course dear," he reached into his pouch and gave her a bit of coin, "Why don't you and Amadeo go get something to eat and drink. Have fun dear." Samara smiled brightly, grabbing Amadeo's hand and ran off pulling the poor Fire dust with her. Odell chuckled, looking to Magnolia. "May I present Nadyris, father to the my rambucious violin student. I take it, my friend, he is keeping you on your toys?"
"Good company is hard to find -- " Aric tilted his head to the side, as if not understanding that statement completely, one to always see the positive side of things. "I guess, but maybe it's cause I'm always in good company." Again his childish idealism, made him not notice anything much but the liveliness of the environment around them.
Aric practically steered the dragon boy he rode towards the ornaments stall, smiling with wide eyes at the colourful displays and very busy business. ---But oh the lovely shiny objects. Needless to say he was distracted.
"Nolan, Nolan over there," he pointed at the stall with a huge collection of different vivid ornaments and tilted himself excitedly over the red-head that he almost fell, but his arms gripped at the shoulders of the dragon immediately, chuckling. "Look at all the shiny shells---" he mentioned to Nolan before he turned to the other dusts around them, smiling.
Magnolia's smiled weakened at the improper definition of a star. She bit her tongue, brows furrowing and opens her mouth slightly, watching with what can only be considered the most concerned of faces. With her brow wrinkled in worry she turned to the man beside her. She paused and composed herself. It was sweet that she had such optimism. Maybe if Magnolia were to see her again she could explain burning balls of gas, and solar systems. Instead she smiled and nodded.
"That is very... Sweet, and -." She bit her tongue at the 'naive' comment that came next. She really was trying to be a proper social guest. Sometimes it was so hard when people were brought up so wrong. Samara was young yet. Magnolia couldn't gather the correct age- she never was good at places ages to faces. She was relieved when the situation left her court as the child went of to get beverages. She smiled and waved as the two young ones went.
"Little minds, so... empty and waiting to be filled. Vessels, Aristotle called them. Guess that's why I enjoy teaching," Magnolia said to no one in particular, off in a far off land herself- completely missing Nadyris' initial nod.
She paused her musings when Odell spoke, introducing a Nadyris- Oh that man had formerly acknowledged her. Her honest mistake, she smiled and nodded in a very polite manner.
"A pleasure, Nadyris? Am I saying that right? How is it spelled?" She took a sip from her rapidly cooling drink and looked back to Odell.
