Copper didn't object to the treatment or to the movement. When Inkling had been wrapped around him, he felt safe, grounded. He whined quietly when he was lifted onto Inkling's back, not liking that he couldn't feel the floor under his feet. But he calmed once he was set down on the bedding, opening his eyes a crack to look at him. "Thank... you," he mumbled before drifting into a light doze. He was aroused by a muzzle being gently pressed to his cheek. "Hnnn...?" "Drink." Drink what? Bleary eyes opened and fixed on the wooden bowl that had been placed before him. It was filled with water and had some green leaves floating in it. After a nudge of encouragement, he lapped at the herb-laden water. He snorted and shook his head when he was met by a bitter taste. "I know, it doesn't taste good," Lightning's voice soothed. "But it'll help, so drink it, alright?" Copper obeyed, drinking the bitter-tasting water before curling up and falling asleep.
Lightning Pawn relaxed a bit as his brother obeyed and then slipped off into a peaceful rest. "That'll help with the fever." He turned his attention to Inkling. "If he wakes up and starts panicking, just say his name and it should snap him out of it."

Inkling moved aside and kept an eye one the brothers while poor Coppy had to ingest something foul. Still if it helped then Inkling would have had Copper drink half a dozen nasty things if it meant the little gladier got better. It was strange but this crazy family didn’t mind him making a mess all the time and they didn’t judge him which made him feel warm somewhere inside. He nodded to Lightning’s instructions confused why he had suddenly become Copper’s caretaker when he was still a stranger to them all. Shrugging he moved back to Copper’s side and started humming again when Lightning was out of sight. He kept stroking Copper’s paw while his melody stayed calm and even.
Ithil sat patiently waiting for Lightning she had the food brought in and all stored now. She smiled at him and tapped the ground next to her to invite Lightning to her side. Her voice was soft and didn’t travel far. “So how’s your brother? Drippy still humming to him?” She was sitting far enough to give Copper space in case he woke up in a panic due to too many body’s in the area, but close enough that she could dash and help Drippy if he needed it.

Lightning smiled as he curled around Ithil. "He'll be fine. He just needs rest." He nodded to her second question, his smile widening. "Yeah." Letting his expression melt into a calmer one as he glanced towards Copper, he continued. "You know... I used to act just like that." He'd once been in the same situation as Copper, had the same personality.

Feeling the warmth emanating form her mate a part of Ithil inside started to relax. “You know I can’t ever image you being scared of anything. Though I can see maybe Copper might get a little tougher, but you know if he starts doing stupid things I’ll have to scold him.” Of course the only really stupid things to Ithil were risking life and limb for some things. Lightning would know that well enough by now.

"I used to be afraid of the water," Lightning replied. "And people sneaking up behind me. That one developed into plain paranoia, though... Anyway, he'll be fine. Since you keep me from doing stupid and reckless things, I doubt I'll be having an untimely death." He shrugged, smiling at Ithil. "That, and his case is a little different. Without his claws, there's a much smaller likelihood that he'd turn into a brawler like me. And since his fear is heights and ledges, he won't be jumping from high places."

Ithil couldn’t imagine Lightning afraid of water, but what she knew of his past she understood. She would have been too. “So he’ll be a manageable version of you that I don’t have to tie rocks to his tail mm? I think I can deal with that just fine.” She leaned against him wondering what they were going to do with Copper. Keeping him safe was one thing, but they couldn’t smother him. “What if he kept him close but let him live out a bit later on if he wants? Would you be ok with that?

Lightning nuzzled Ithil lightly as he replied. "I'd be fine with it, though... if he's anything like me, he might not want to live on his own. Not unless he finds someone to be there with him." He sighed, burrowing his muzzle into her fur. "I don't think I have to explain to you how terrifying being alone would be to him." Both he and Ithil were the same way. He drew back a little so he could meet his mate's gaze with his own reassuring one. "He'll be alright. Whether he's here or somewhere else, we'll be there whenever he needs us. No more, no less." It might take a bit of trial and error to find the balance, but they'd figure it out.

Breathing softly she reveled in his touch. “Yeah that’s why I’d like to keep him close.” She purred next to him. His amazing eyes looked into hers and she believed him absolutely. “Well of course stupid. He has us after all.” She heard more humming back were Copper was. “And I think he made a new friend to. Drippy might not be the most social but he means well enough. I think Copper is doing just fine already” She licked him. “Together you and I can take on anything so we’ll just make it work. I’m just glad I don’t have to drag you into this.” She really loved Lightning. He was so sweet and attentive while not smothering her. She was sure that Copper would turn out just fine with Lightning to look up to. Drippy would benefit too.

Lightning chuckled. "That he has." Hopefully Inkling and Copper wouldn't get into the trouble that he and his first friends did. He grinned at her. "Of course you don't have to drag me into it. I'm the one who started it!" No matter what the circumstances, Copper was his brother; Lightning wasn't going to turn his back on him. He yawned and nuzzled his head against Ithil's. "We should get some rest." If Copper's problems were even remotely like his, it was going to be a long night...

-a week passes- Time seemed to move slow and fast all at the same time over the next few days. The nightmares had come but Copper was quickly lulled back to peace by Drippy or by Lightning. Ithil made sure to help too but it seemed the boys always beat her if there was an emergency. So instead she took time during the day to ‘mother’ Copper a bit. She would pet him and praise him for things well done or encourage him to relax and enjoy himself a bit. She tried to do the same with Drippy but the ink spot seemed to prefer to just be Copper’s shadow and didn’t ever seem to stray too far from him. Ithil figured it was because the ink spot had a soft spot for things that didn’t run from him screaming, and even as scared as Copper was by a lot of things he never was scared of Drippy.
Right now Ithil was out for a walk. Not for food, not for a bath, not even to gather sticks. Today was just a walk for the joy of it. It had been to long since she had done that and by all the was enjoyable she was going to have a nice time darn it!

Copper was wandering aimlessly, letting his mind wander. He could hear the footsteps of Inkling not far behind him, but he wasn't surprise nor annoyed; the dripping Gladier made sure to keep an eye on him, just in case. The fever was gone now, but his friend wanted to make sure that nothing happened. Lightning and Ithil were the same way, but their roles were a little different. They were almost like parents, really. Lightning taught them new skills and gave them instruction and protection. Ithil was gentle and caring, always giving encouragement and motherly love. But even around them there was a slight uneasiness sometimes, as irrational as it was. Ithil was a girl, after all. His mother had been gentle like she was at first too. And Lightning... his instincts were a little startling sometimes. Claws automatically shot from his paws when he thought there was danger, and it wasn't unheard of for Copper to see his brother wandering in and out of the cave at night; he'd seen Lightning do so occasionally when he woke up from nightmares. Where was he going? What was he doing when the rest of them were in the cave?
Inkling... Inkling was different. No matter how great his doubts, his fears, his worries became, not one bit of him was afraid of the dripper. He gave him an overwhelming sense of peace. As long as Inkling was there to help him, it'd be ok.
When Copper stopped to take a break, he looked around at his surroundings and froze. He'd wandered into the mountains. It might not have been a problem except for the fact that not far away were the cliffs. If Lightning had been with them, he would've been sure to redirect them from the inevitable freeze-up, but he wasn't; he'd said something about a storm and had rushed off. Copper had been confused since he didn't hear or see anything hinting at a storm at the time, but as he stared out past the cliff, he could see the turbulent clouds rolling in. "Ink," he managed to squeak out. He didn't know what he'd do if the other Gladier wasn't there; he was frozen to the spot, and the longer he stared at the cliff, the closer it seemed to him.

Following Copper at what he thought was a discrete distance Ink tried to give the poor guy some space. Copper was out taking a walk looking like a lost little lamb in the world. Not that Inkling could really blame him. Ink had been abandoned by the world; Copper had been abused and tossed aside to die a slow and painful death. It was completely different and yet Inkling felt a lot of empathy toward Copper. When the other gladier stopped walking so did he. He didn’t get it at first, looking a bit though he did. Copper and his cliffs. Moving forward he spoke slowly and clearly. “I’m here Copper, it’s ok I’m right behind you.” Using a paw he wrapped it over Copper’s eyes and tugged back a bit. “Turn your head and look at me Copper. Then you’re going to stare at the footprints I had leading here. They stand out pretty well with all the ink that comes off. You just keep heading back the way we came staring at them got it?” He nosed Copper’s cheek calmly encouraging the smaller gladier to act and do as he was told. It shouldn’t be too hard. “I’m right here next to you the whole time.” He smiled even though he still held his paw over Copper’s eyes until the other gladier would move his head. “It’s not so bad right? I’m here and we can head back to where the ground is a little more level and the crazy chick keeps pushing food at us like we’re half starved.” Ithil to him was still the crazy chick and Lightning was kinda scary but Inkling liked them both well enough. They treated him like a whole gladier and not some freak or reject. There were times that still surprised him but it wasn’t too bad at all. In fact he felt a bit more stable after having started to live with them. It was just a shame that in the back of his mind he felt like it would only be a matter of time before they asked him to leave. He figured the only reason they let him stay was because Copper had taken a shine to him. As soon as Copper could stand on his own they wouldn’t need him anymore and they would tell Ink to shove off. He wasn’t sad about the idea actually he was just grateful that they had let him stay so long and find a measure of peace if only for a short time. The memories he had made here would keep him sustained even if he never found another soul who said a kind word to him.
(Sorry it took so long. I swear the post for this went through on Fri. Apparently I was wrong. )

Copper obediently backed up and faced Inkling. He managed a weak smile as he nodded his understanding, shakily turning and starting to follow the prints. He kept going until his paws met the softer earth of the forest. He sighed his relief, then looked around. He saw something odd, so he started walking towards it. He stopped a few feet from it, frowning at the familiar-shaped stone. "... This looks like... the stone that Lightning's always staring at." But it couldn't be the same one; the one Lightning looked at all the time was deeper in the forest. "These aren't ordinary stones, right?" he asked, turning to look at Inkling. "Do you know what they are?"
(( That's alright. ))

Inkling walked up and looked at the stone Copper was referring to. He snorted. He didn’t really care one rock was like another to him. “I don’t know. It looks sorta familiar but I wouldn’t know. I never really paid much attention to what your brother looks at.” He shrugged and reached out to nudge the stone with a paw. He stopped just short hearing a noise and looked around. “Copper do you think your brother would have brought the other stone out with him? If so is your brother here?” He put his paw back still having not touched the stone. He didn’t know if it was special or not, he just wanted to make sure he and Copper were safe.
(Would you like me to enter Ithil and lightning pawn for the breeding here? They are my only couple with RP in this shop so it's not like I don't have the slot space to spare.... *don't mind me just rolling over my journal* )

Copper shook his head. "It's too big. And the markings on it are different." He lifted his own head at the sound, instinctively moving closer to Inkling. His gaze met that of someone hidden in the trees above. "Who...?" No sooner had the word left his lips that the mysterious Gladier left their perch and flew deeper into the woods.
