S'lar watched Ja'kki but he was also watching the others. As Emerath's roar sounded his mental link to Araneth kicked up as she followed the other green, another roar piercing through the night - albiet it slightly quieter and higher-pitched from the smaller chest of Araneth. S'lar's worries suddenly melted away as it dawned on him that they were in another life and death situation. He observed Ja'kki, stabbing his spear at her attackers when space allowed him, and making sure that neither his team-mates or the candidates got too injured, medic's brain a whir.

The latter became more important all of a sudden as Araneth raised her voice not in a roar but in worried song. They Hatch, MINE they HATCH! Keep the dragons out of the way, Araneth!

He had added his voice to Merell's -

"Ja'kki, we have to let the candidates in - otherwise the dragonets will go between!"

S'lar's face was twisted - he liked it perhaps even less that the Traditionalists, but he could not bear to see dragons go between, especially now that there were so few to go around. At Kaeyene's voice, S'lar let out a growl, the usually unflappable rider rightly annoyed.

"Us, pompous? No, that label belongs to you - those who judge upon covers instead of pages."

He then took a deep breath, pinching his nose.

"And I agree, there was a little too much bloodshed for my taste - I work to save lives, not end them. However what's done is done - and for now, the dragonets must Impress."

And barely minutes after he said that came a tiny blue. S'lar's breath caught in his throat, and he threw across his link to Araneth Were you once that small?
And more, mine.

Merrell's strength was bolstered by S'lar and Ja'kki's support, and she took a deep breath, deciding that no, they didn't have to tell them where the eggs were but yes, the candidates should be able to come in... perhaps... but her thoughts were cut short.

~ Mine he is here! Oh, look at him! He is beautiful! ~ Amaranth crowed as the little blue slunk out onto the sands. That made Merrell's mind up for her, the poor pitiful little dragonet was so tiny and lost, she couldn't bear to see him go between.

"Bring your candidates in, but you stay by the door and your dragons outside." She said forcefully to Kleos, eyes narrowed. They would either cooperate and have the chance at impressing the blue, or there would be a fight. And she knew if there was a fight there would be no way for anyone to reach the new dragon in time. She hoped they would see reason. Later on, she would probably laugh at the way she had made demands as if she and the other Bolts weren't outnumbered and outgunned. But for now, her passions were blazing high, making her verge on unpredictable.

Devith managed to dance out of the way of the last strike of the green as she dove back inside the reach her rider. Moving though only made his shoulder bleed worse as he hissed in pain his eyes whirling bright with worry and anger. Mine I do not like you in there. Can we not just get the hatchlings and go~ Devith seemed to sigh with exasperation at this whole thing, but stayed outside despite his urge to welcome this lovely dragon. Humming low in his throat Devith tilted and peered into the dark. His first hatching would be witnessed with little seen of the hatchlings in question.

Inside Hekate found herself once again on the bad end of a rebel, but her wariness had paid off as she managed to dodge the spear thrust taking a few steps back from S'lar and giving Ja'kki a little space. She found it ironic though that the very people they were fighting Kayne's words more distasteful then Hekate's own allies. Even if they mistook his insults for them instead of being directed at her as they were. However of course she could see why that would be confusing since it made little sense to spit venom at someone who had come to your aid and risked their own life to help you.

Not yet Devith. Let's just wait and see what happens. Hekate mentally sighed and hoped the poor blue impressed.

"No, not you," Kaeyne called out from the cave back towards S'lar. "The arrogant self righteous tit of a silverrider. Also, there's a dragon."

He could hear the dragon, either way, and then actually saw it. The Candidate blinked and smiled, just a little, the anger at Hekate hidden away until he had to go back out and deal with her. She was nothing more than a rider and he not under her command. Nope, he had a dragon to deal with and - squinting at the ground, trying to discern where the steps came from - perhaps another egg to find.

F'ren had been assigned as a Rear Guard, flying on Toulonth, keeping an eye out for possible escapees or assailants as they searched for the eggs. F'ren had to admit, it was a fairly good idea when Wingleader Kleos had told him about it, it gave them a good position should the main group be ambushed.

Moriath had been keeping in contact with Toulonth so when the eggs began hatching, almost as soon as the green herself had begun to hum, he'd been recalled to the main body of the group, help protect the candidates.

Landing outside the cave Toulonth noted strange Greens... wary looking Greens that obviously were not of her Weyr and she was on guard. "Be careful Mine" she warned as F'ren dismounted and headed towards where Toulonth had showed him where the others were. "Wingleader Kleos" he said shortly, eyeing what were apparently the thieving culprits. "The eggs are alright?" he asked her in hushed tones.

People! The slender blue looked relieved for a moment and chirped a greeting; he hadn't liked being all alone! He started to trot towards the humans... and then stopped. With an indifferent toss of his head he sat down and started to clean egg goop off his handsome pale hide; oh, there were people here? Well that was nice, they could come and bask in his beauty if they wanted but he wasn't going to go to them.... But the urge to move, to find His was strong. After a moment more he got back to his feet and stretched luxuriantly, as though this had been his plan all along.

Oblivious to the tension outside the cave he started to pad towards the little group of humans, carrying himself with all the grace and poise of a Lady Holder and all the proud confidence stereotyped as the territory of silvers or bronzes.

Kleos tensed, lips pursed into a thin line. She didn't like this, she didn't like this at all... but what choice did she have? "Very well," she replied, "but you and your allies will also remain here, and your dragons will remain outside too. You must also tell us the location of any others eggs you took from the Sands." When the dragons were safely Impressed they could resume combat if the Revolutionaries would not leave, but she would not risk harm coming to hatchlings or indeed candidates right now.

F'ren's appearance was something of a relief, the more they outnumbered their enemies the better, and as he approached she turned her mind to more practical matters. "F'ren, welcome, they appear to be well enough.... We are negotiating with these ladies, and this gentleman," she gestured at the Revolutionaries, remembering to use the hand her knife wasn't in; the last thing she needed was to provoke more violence with a careless wave of a weapon.

"Hatchlings cannot eat grubs," she went on, now turning to N'ymi with a small shake of her head. "There is merit in hunting however... we have already agreed that our dragons shall remain outside the cave. Will you send Daroth to hunt and, F'ren, you Toulonth? There may be game to be found in nearby clearings."

Sensing that an accord had been reached Moriath grudgingly backed out of the cave again, her eyes still whirling red and orange. If she had it her way she would tear the traitorous dragons limb from limb, or perhaps just tear their wings and march them back to the Weyr for judgement and punishment. As it was however she would accept the deal; the hatchling, and any others that were inside the cave, had to be protected. she said stiffly, addressing all present dragons save for the little blue hatchling.

Kleos' tone when she mentioned the people in front of her, he noted that her weapon was drawn and he eyed the others darkly. He said nothing to them, not trusting himself to be collected. He was relieved that Kleos was giving orders. He smiled and told Toulonth to go. It would probably be better for Toulonth to do that. He didn't much know what to do with himself though.

"I will hunt for the babies, i will hunt with Daroth, we will provide for the young ones as these traitors obviously have not" she commented to Daroth and Moriath, pointedly ignoring the 'enemy' dragons.

Meroc couldn't help, but grin at the blue as it took it's seat grooming his handsome hide to perfection. Well he couldn't rightly blame the little hatchling since the blue was quite the handsome lad. At least someone was conducting themsevles with dignity and pride unlike certain other candidates. "Bad form." Meroc murmured under his breath arching a brow at Kaeyne. While he didn't know the red haired young rider personally there was no call for such language. They were candidates the should conduct themselves with dignity. Which Meroc did straightening his back and waiting on the blue to finish his grooming.

Ja'kki frowned, tears pricking her narrowed eyes. Did she really want the hatchlings to die rather than be raised by the Traditionalists? Neither seemed like a fair fate for the darling little blue who made his appearance, she guessed he was from the egg she'd taken. Not a green, but still. He'd never be able to bloom under Trine's controlling grip as he would with her.

With difficulty she changed her demeanor, lowering her knife, though she didn't sheath it. Let S'lar and Merrell handle negotiations, she couldn't speak. Her hand sought S'lar's as he stood beside her.

Emerath moved closer to Hers, loving worried croons accompanying her welcoming thrum as her eyes glowed bright for the handsome little blue.

Merrell, who was somewhat used to speaking for the Bolts (though usually she knew what they wanted her to say first) drew strength from Ja'kki and S'lar and from the constant, comforting presence of Amaranth. Slowly, she uncrossed her arms and sheathed her knife as if to signal a break in the hostilities.

"I don't know where everyone else took their eggs." Merrell said. "The other one we took is back there." She nodded towards a small crevice where the egg was wrapped warmly in furs. "Send your candidates in, then. Lets get this over with."

She still held out hope that the candidates might come to the realization that the traditional values they had been brainwashed with were not the best for the dragons. There was one candidate, arrogant and outspoken, that Merrell found herself hoping would impress. He had potential for the revolution, that one did. She liked his anger.

S'lar took Ja'kki;s hand in his own and rubbed his thumb against her knuckles, attempting comfort. His face too was pinched - all this effort, and for what? They were outnumbered, and he was horribly aware than they were also outgunned. The dragonet had raised his spirits momentarily, but now the realities came crashing back down as the traditionalists made their views more than clear. Araneth took to the sky with a trumpeting roar to go and hunt prey for the hatchlings, tail flicking towards the snout of one of the other dragons with what could almost be accidental malice. Almost.

"We have dried meat for them, actually, and do you really think Keller was stupid enough to tell everyone else the locations of the other eggs? One traitor and we'd have all been scuppered."

Despite his inner turmoil, his voice was calm and clear; every inch the rider in control. He swung his pack round to his front with one hand, the other tight in Ja'kki's. He drew dried meat from it - not perhaps the most appetising meal for a young dragon, but certainly better than grubs. He left it to the side on the ground for now - the blue wouldn't go for the food until he impressed, most likely.

Then, under his breath.

"Come on, little one. You can find them."

N'ymi shrugged. Turning to Daroth who was still in the clearing, she gave him a wave. "Go and find sum food fer the lil' ones. Dun need them 'pressin' then bein' hungry."

I go and hunt. I shall bring back what I can. Daroth backed up and then gave himself a huge heave into the air. It was not easy maneuvering and he had to take several wing strokes to get good space in the air before going Between. He popped back in over Trine feeding pens and looked for a decent sized herbeast. Toulonth. Take from our feeding area. Easier than hunting.

Kharmeen had been steadily working his way deeper into the caves. He saw the blue and further back believed he saw another round shape but was not positive. Keeping his hands out, he moved closer to the dragonet. "Hey, hey little fellow. We are here for you."

[Kaeyne]

The lovely things about caves and being in an enclosed space without music or screaming could be hearing stuff. Like words. While he didn't hear Merocs exact words, he heard a voice, soft as it was, quiet as someone scraping shoe on stone and just as indistinct. The Candidate glanced in the general direction of the noise, expression once more in the neutrel and saw a boy staring at him with an arched eyebrow.

He bared his teeth in what could be a smile, though intended to be more of a whers warning growl, and stuck up a certain third finger towards the other male candidate.

Kleos nodded stiffly. "Very well." The sooner it was done the better.

Moriath addressed all of the unbonded humans inside the cave, She pictured to them the crevice that the revolutionary woman had indicated to Kleos.

((The Knockabout egg can now be discovered! It's moving around a bit, and not visibly damaged.))

The Slender blue meanwhile padded gracefully towards the candidates, head held high and tail giving the occasional flick. Each human was visited and looked over with a critical eye. He paused in particular by Aurelien and Muroc but walked past each to look over the others. Before long he had inspected all the possibilities, chosen none, and having done so he sat back on his haunches with the tip of his tail twitching and flicking. For some tense moments he remained where he was, running his gaze over his options one more time.

Eventually he gave a little rumble and seemed to reach a decision. Rising to his feet he padded slowly back over to Aurelien and sat down again.

While Moroc wasn't sure how Kaeyne had managed to hear him from across a cave that was filled with the sounds of humans talking, dragons crying and humming, and a hatchling shuffling about apparently he had. The rude boy had to have ears like a wher. He certainly smiled like one with a mug just as ugly and not a hint of warmth. If he wanted a smile Meroc would gladly give him a proper example. The older candidate's face lit up in a smile that practically beamed like the son with cheer as he gave Kaeyne a jaunty little wink.

If the rude boy thought he was going to scare or warn Meroc off with just a grin then he was wrong and all he got was a barking laugh at his third lifted finger. What the gesture was Meroc had no idea. It must have been one of the new ones Avias introduced, but from the look of the motion he took that it was supposed to be an insult. Why the Wingleader of all people was letting a candidate act so horribly in such a situation and blatantly get away with it Meroc wasn't sure. However adjusting his hat he stood tall and was about to move into the cavern at Moriath's instructions when the blue trotted right up to him and Aurelien. However it was the other boy who was chosing turning to the newly mad rider Meroc clapped the boy on the shoulder beaming over at him. "Congrats mate! Now if you'll excuse me I'd best be greeting the other egg." Meroc called out and with the others trotted off towards the other cavern to circle around the Kockabout egg beside
