"No.. no... I.. I can do it," She insisted. Suddenly moving further and nearly shooting straight down but bobbing right back up, completely wet now as she kicked her legs and used her arm to try and level her off. Which was harder than she thought it would be.

He stepped closer, standing in front of her but enough to give her space to step closer and to spread her arm out to swim. "Without that one arm, I think you're going to have to rely a lot more on kicking with your legs to keep you up than your arms." He said, watching her and hoping she didn't panic or exhaust herself way too soon.

Rin was trying to keep calm, that wasn't easy either. But she still managed to at least keep water out of her lungs and keep from exhausting yet. She offered Melvin a wobbly smile then took a deep breath and used it to lift her body up to the surface. She began to kick again, trying to go forward with an overly excited sounding, "Like this?" Possibly bumping into him.

She nearly bumped him, but be jerked back, swimming to the side to let her have a free path forward. On edge, both from wondering when Rin was just going to get too tired and drop like a rock underwater and having to be around instead of off in the deeper water, he just swam in place. It was a great distraction from trying to fidget, and he watched her bob as she moved.
"Don't go too far right yet. Just swim here where you know you're close to the ground." That way if she did get tired, it was just a few strokes back to where her feet could touch the ground.
Great, he was sounding like a swim instructor now.

Rin arched her back and brought her head back up. Smiling at him though sopping wet and struggling to see past her own watered down hair, "I think I'm actually doing it!" She almost glowed with excitement by this point. She took her time now and used her strokes sparingly as she approached him, "Do you like any swimming games?"

Melvin watched her awkwardly paddle about, not exactly elegant but her head was above water. That was the main thing to consider. "Well, we really had no real games. If we were in a pool, it's be Marco Polo or racing. We did have a lake where there was a rope, but it was stupid." He gave up rope jumping a very long time ago. "I think a lot of it is out of your scope right now." He tended to like racing the most, but Rin could barely stay afloat, let alone race.
"Did you like any games?" Maybe he really could tucker her out and be left to swim on his own. He was still hopeful.

"I used to like tag and racing, but..," well, Melvin's mind had already been there. "We can still try Marco polo?" she looked ever hopeful even as her head bobbed up and down repeatedly.

"Fine, but you decide who's it. Also, do you want to go no farther than this to be on the safe side?" If not, he could go on further and he didn't want Rin thinking he was further out and wind up drowning.

"Can you be it?" Rin honestly didn't like the idea of wandering around blind on top of everything else so soon. "Also, no fish out of water and yes, I don;t mind going further out. It will make this... more interesting," she waggled a brow at him.

Rin gasped before zipping out further as fast as she could. Which as it turned out was quite a bit of ways. She bobbed where she wound up. Smiling giddily back at Melvin. Certain he was never going to reach her.

"Polo!" Rin shouted in reply before evading carefully into a new spot.. careful Rin, don't make too many waves or splashing noises. She just barely swam past him to the other side.

"Polo," She replied a lot more softly before dipping under to use evasive maneuvers to escape back out again. He more than likely felt an under current whiz past his legs as she went by. There was a somewhat distant swishing sound as her head popped back up.
