The doe felt herself near panic. The hawk was watching, she was sure of it. Her heart thudded and she continued on, trying to keep her mind on survival.

There was no shadow yet. The hawk hadn't come to kill her. She hoped it would stay that way and pressed on.

He slowed down a bit to avoid a patch of really dry looking grass but he was nearly there. His heart pounded in his head.

She picked up speed, making her way back. Worry ran through her body, probably more swiftly than her paws hit the earth.

But he fumbled a bit and lost a lot of speed. He nearly could have jostled the hawk from its slumbers, he just felt it. A shiver ran down his spine as he tried to high foot it out of there...but quietly..

She picked up speed only slightly, hopping over a twig that the leave had fallen from.

His back legs tingled but he put a little more speed into it. He had to pick up more speed though if he wanted to make it out as a runner.
