Well, today the tickets for Operation Mortifico went on sale to the general public, and if the popularity of the event is the same as what was seen in December, and when they were released back in August/September of last year, then they'll go quickly. I know this is set for those in the UK, but if you ever have the chance to attend a similar event where you're from I would definitely take the opportunity.
I've made a change to the thread, seeing as Operation Protinus is just a code name, so it would make sense to relate this to Kill Teams and the Battle Missions book in general to save time and save on confusion.
I've purchased my tickets for the event in April, so I'll be planning now and getting the painting done. I've got a few things of what to do and what not to do (leave everything to the last minute like last time comes to mind) so I'll leave that. I've got a few ideas for my Kill Team. Either a squad of Ultramarines veterans, a Deathwatch Kill Team, a rampaging group of Grotesques or something completely unrelated.

I have no doubt that you will, and I look forward to sharing the journey from here to April. I should be ordering the items I need next week when pay day arrives, though my pay check will be split between bills, rent and a weekend break to pay off.

A Deathwatch kill-team sounds exciting!

What she said, a Deathwatch team is both powerful and allows for loads of character per individual model.

I've been thinking the same thing; it would be interesting to see and I think there is room to work on personalising the options. I could have a member of the Kill Team from the Space Wolves chapter, so I could always take his weaponry from the Space Wolves box set. One problem I think I'll face though is when I reach the more mundane models, besides chapter markings, how will I show that they're different?
I looked online at the GW website today, and looking at the Tyrannic War Veterans, they've given me a few ideas.
I've also looked at the special rules for Grotesques. Feel no pain from the get-go, and then I could be nasty and give my leader the Eternal Warrior special rule. That coupled with Feel no Pain equals one nasty S-O-B to deal with. And Night Fighting rules will be in effect, so Dark Eldar will have some benefits.

Certainly, Homunculus with a squad of Grotesques is a crazily tough unit to take down, especially if you give the Homunculus that instant kill weapon, very painful unit to deal with.

No arguments there Jason, though unfortunately with the rule pack, I can't take a HQ choice to go alongside my Grotesques. That would have been awesome to see in the games.

Ah yes, that's a problem. I once saw it done in a 1000 points game, the squad ended up tearing apart a Necron Overlord and his Lychguard, nasty things.

I've seen it done many times as well. It's tempting to try that in the future if I start a Dark Eldar army. I want to do an army inspired by Lady Malys.
Good news, my ticket for Operation Mortifico came through the post today. 13 weeks and counting.

I get paid on Tuesday, so I'll be ordering the models needed then. I've decided to go for a kill team of Tyrannic War Veterans from the Space Marine codex.

Hey everyone, sorry for the long delay but to help me get my head straight and work out a few problems offline I decided to leave Gaia for a spell. I don't know if I'll be returning again soon but who knows. I just wanted to let you know that Operation Mortifico was a fantastic day, and well worth the trip.
Admittedly I didn't go for a squad of Ultramarine Tyrannic War Vets but instead a unit of Chaos Space Marines equipped for close combat with Mark of Khorne, flamer and heavy bolter. I did have a run of bad luck though. Found out one model wasn't painted, just undercoated so I was down to a 9 man squad. Weapons kept coming apart in the carry case, and through the day models were dropping off the table, breaking and I had to spend five minutes putting the model back together. I lost all 8 matches, though I could have won the last match if it wasn't for a fat man counting technicality in his own favour. Anyway, enough of the rant.
One thing I did find out was that Riptides are incredibly nasty on the field of battle in Kill Team. Wiped out by turn two. I don't want to rain on anyones parade but I hope they do not allow Riptides in the next event. It was a little one-sided (why it isn't a heavy support option I'll never know).
Anyway, just wanted to keep you all up to date. I might be on more often, but if not... well we'll work something out.

Riptides might be a tad overkill for such small games, but seeing as they count as Monstrous Creatures.. sweatdrop

I just saw the pictures from Warhammer world on Facebook. 11 Riptides in the entire competition! I've been looking at the codex and it does have some seriously heavy weapons.
