Trust Issues
Total strangers can be pretty intimidating

Awen Zyn
Awen hadn't thought she'd be back here in a long time. After the months she had spent outside without anything, even her video games one would think the girl would hate the confines of the bark and leaves. But a walk was just what she needed to clear her head after her long talk with Amaya. She could do this. She would save the newcomers, if not the islanders. After all..everything had an antidote right? There had to be an antidote.... Something that could reverse them back to normal... Yeah. So she was getting away not just for Avery Rex..and the skeasy new guy.... but for everyone.

She had grown unaware of how loud she was on land, tramping hrough the bushes. She had always been used to being able to tread lightly on the forest floors of her home, but after two months she had gotten used to being a little clumsier on land. A littler louder. It didn't much bother her anyway, she was alone.

Zachary Bloodstone
Back in the forest's cool darkness, Zach had begun to get a little nervous. He couldn't see much of what was ahead, and only by constantly brushing aside the heavy fern fans and other huge waxy leaves could he even know where to put his foot down next. Odds were he was lost. He'd veered away from following the cliff's edge, and for that he knew he'd have a rough time returning to his duplex. He badly wanted a shower.

His boot was caught in a couple of vines hanging on the ground, and unceremoniously Zach crashed to the wet ground. Ohh did he need that shower now... "Dammit!"

There was mud all over the side of his face, and on his clothes too! Before he could get back to walking, he noticed a sound that he'd assumed to be coming from him. It was the slow footsteps of another person right here in the forest. They were close.

Were they friend or foe? Either way, they must have heard him swear. With his one hand, he grappled a tree trunk in order to stand back on two feet, and busied himself brushing the dirt off his face. There wasn't a reason to run, as they'd only catch him more quickly if he did.

Awen Zyn
Awen heardthe familiar sound of a body crashing to the ground ending in the dull thud. She frowned. Though she was glad for once it wasn't her falling she hoped the other person wasn't hurt too much.

The unfamiliar voice followed with a curse and she frowned. It wouldn't be the best way to walk in, they might be embarassed when she stepped throguh the bushes and say they had tripped. But she didn't exactly think hiding would do her any good.... and she didn't know the voice.

She stepped slowly towards the place where she heard the man. She put on a smile and opened her mouth to greet the person, warn them she was on her way, but all of a sudden she big flipper like feet caught on a root. She stumbled forward and ended up jumping to keep her balance, landing just before the poor guy.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach cried out in alarm and lay stiffly against the tree beind him. A blue and grey humanoid blur seemingly flew through the nearby trees to land right in front of him.

"Get away from me!" He didn't bother with formality. He - or she - had nearly killed him! There wasn't anywhere to run now.

Well, on a closer inspection, it was a girl. But he also saw the winglike flaps and wriggling horns, and the overall shiny texture to her grey-tinted skin. The blue hair didn't help. She looked like a monster.

He felt like prey. His fingers wrapped around a length of his rope. If she tried to attack again, he'd attempt to entangle her with it and run like hell.

Awen Zyn
Awen blinked a little bit in the face of the man. Her cheeks took on a crimson hue as she quickly stepped back. He had obviously not been on the island very long at all. She withdrew as much as she could and tried to make herself appear as unthreatening as possible.

"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry..." She pointed over her shoulder. "I...tripped over a root there....I didn't mean to scare you...."

She scratched her neck softly and sighed a little. "I'm Awen.... Terrible way to meet someone..I'm sorry."

Zachary Bloodstone
That was it. He'd never get used to this place. The adrenaline from that shock was making him shake. So her name was Awen... he'd have to remember that.

"P-pleased to meet you, A-Awen..." His hand slowly loosened from the rope. Having figured he would be in a cave by this time of day, Zach had neglected to do anything about his other sleeve. She'd quickly notice his lack of a left arm. It wasn't easy to miss. "I'm Zachary... s'my fault. I-I'm not used to this place."

Still breathing quickly, he tried to sort out her predicament. He couldn't imagine what she was turning into. It was grosteque. At least even the reptilian islanders were recognizable. This girl... the animal she was becoming wasn't even imaginable. She definitely looked like a particularly affected victim of this whole sick joke. His eyes betrayed his thoughts, as they were still wide and full of horror at her transformed appearance.

Awen Zyn
After her encounter with Amaya earlier she had felt a little better about how she was looking. Not because she thought Amaya had looked bad, by no means. She just sort of saw it in Amayas eyes, something that had made Awen feel better. And Lauren, she had practically...well...that was a different situation altogether, but she didn't think Awen was too freakish either. All of the other islanders, even the newcomers seemed to think she wasn't that bad looking.

But it only took this one to break down the newfound confidence. She kept her arms down and fingers closed so that the weebing would be less appearant. She tried to fluff her hair a little bit to make the prongy things not look so evident, though that was futile.

"No..I jumped out and scared you I'm sorry." As she got a better look of the guy, except for the blur and the face close up she had a chance to notice the man's arm or rather lack there of. Her brow creased in sympathy for a second but then quickly schooled that away...he probably didn't want her pity. And... he was distracted anyway.

"Why don't you sit down or something.... you're shaking like a leaf. I take it your new.... I'm so sorry that was horrible of me."

Zachary Bloodstone
He pushed the rope back up to his shoulder to keep it there. The girl looked... self-conscious? She was preening herself quickly in front of him, obviously making a major effort to hide her changes. He felt a pang of guilt at that. It wasn't her fault she looked like that. She was a captive here against her will.

He saw the look of pity that crossed her face. He was glad that it left just as quickly. He honestly didn't need that at the moment. He needed his shower. That'd be the prize of putting up with this godforsaken forest.

"I'm fine... really..." He'd stop shaking after a few minutes. He just had to wait for the scare to wear off. He didn't offer a handshake, seeing how his glove was now all muddy. "I guess I really need to stop being so scared of this place. You guys don't need a newcomer like me freaking out all the time. I'm going to learn my lesson..."

Not that he had a choice in that.

Awen Zyn
"As long as you're okay... You don't have to be afraid" Awen smiled softly. The manta meant that the man didn't need to be afraid really but she was also thinking about her escape. She wouldn't start explaining her plan again and she didn't want to give other people hope, now that she was feeling self concious she didn't know if she could pull it off.

"So you're new hm? You don't know your way around the island either hm?"

Zachary Bloodstone
"Oh, yeah, I'm still unfamiliar with this place. I don't think I've been here a full week, even. I have a map, but..."

But it reminds me of that sadistic freak Duvert every time I look at it.

He peeled himself off of the tree. "Oh! I almost forgot. My name is Zachary." He smiled politely. It really just took a good amount of staring to get used to the outlandish appearances here.

Lauren Granger
The duplex was getting to be claustophobic, Lauren wanted to get out and explore. The best spot for this was of course, the jungle.

In an unusually chipper mood, Lauren was walking through with her mp3 player drowing out any noise from her pointed ears. She was singing aloud to the music.

"Hermaphrodites with x-ray eyes,
Shapeshift into paradigms.
March like nazi's to a polka dirge,
To conjure the spirit of lucifer.
Virgin mongoloid.
Girlfriend mentally begins to bend.

Valley girl ventriloquists.
Move her lips and slash her wrists.

Ammonia sweet river,
Winged rats will take us there,
Anchored by the ledfish.
We are pregnant with animal joy.

Don't fall asleep or we'll mutilate your genitals.
"

Awen Zyn
Awen had opened her mouth to say something to Zachary but all of a sudden she learn a familiar voice singing outloud to a rather "cheery" song. Blinking she turned around to see a flash of someone trampsing through a nearby bush. "Uuhh..... the heck?"

She motioned for Zach to come along. "Don't worry..she's harmless."

She stepped slowly towards her dear friend, just out of her line of sight. "Hey there Lauren." No answer.. she said it a little louder. "Hey Lauren!"

Nothing...

She grabbed the mongoose's arm softly. "LAUREN!"

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach was a little disturbed by the randomly thrown together words being sung, especially in the dark here.

The name... he'd met her before once, shorty. Lauren!?

The mongoose. She had seemed a little off, in that she didn't treat the island experience very negatively. Her appearance stood out, especially the long fingers.

He waved to her, though she didn't seem to notice. Awen went ahead and got her attention instead.

Rex Vadnais
After his shower, Rex decided to go for a little walk out in the jungle. As far as he knew there wasn't a gym here and his muscles craved some exercise. A little hike never hurt anyone.

So there he was, venturing through the forest and enjoying the fresh air. The sunlight trickled through the tree's high canopy in little splotches, though most of the forest was shadowed and dark. In a way, it was pretty soothing.

Rex heard them first, a few different voices, one of them singing. "Hmm?" He said, seeing some silhoutted bodies through the thicket. he approached quietly at first until he saw the webing under one of the bodies' arms. "Oh, hey Awen!" Then the strange man from the cafeteria earlier, Zachary? "And Zach!" though the third figure he'd yet to meet.

Lauren Granger
Lauren looked up, pulling the headphones from her ears as the shouting song by Dog Fashion Disco could still be heard... all be it slightly muted.

"Awen!" She said as she hugged the fish girl. "Oh man... I have some freakish news!" Odly enough, Lauren was happier than she had been in months.

"And Zach! Hey... how's things? Not going to spazz out on me are you?" She gave him a friendly punch to his good arm.

Lauren spotted the muscular tall blonde man, "Hey! Names Lauren what's happenin' ?" She held out a clawed hand towards him when he aproached closer.

Awen Zyn
The flurry of greeting exchanges confused Awen terribly. She first turned to Rex. "Hey man!" Then quickly looked back to Lauren when she announced she had freakish news. "Oh yeah? How ya doing anyway? Sorry for dtiching you."

Then she saw the girl punch Zach in the good arm and almost had a heart attack. The poor guy was near a breakdown because of Awen he did not need someone's fist flying at him.

Then just as quick the hand reached out to the male blond. Dizzy, confused she tried to stumble over words. At least everyone seemed to know her and Zach. "Er Lauren that's Rex, Rex this is Lauren, a very good friend. Oh and thanks Rex for reminding me... Lauren I've got to talk to you about something..."

Zachary Bloodstone
"Ow," he grimaced, trying to laugh off the punch. She didn't seem to notice; her mood looked too good to be spoiled by something like that. He hoped it wouldn't be. She got a little instinctive when it was, as he'd witnessed on the beach.

The other man from the cafeteria, Rex, sauntered over. Zach still didn't trust this guy, no matter how friendly his demeanor. He gave a vague nod toward the guy. "Rex?"

Underlying the whole accidental gathering here was a sense of business. It paid not to be noticed sometimes, but it wasn't going to happen on this island.

Well, he couldn't do anything but wait out the soreness of his arm where Lauren had knocked it. He was curious what was going to be said.

Rex Vadnais
Rex first turned to Lauren, her spindelly hand stretched forward. He shook it in greeting and locked in on her eyes with a friendly smile. "Lauren? Rex." He stated simply, jotting her name down in his mind. She looked a little changed, but nothing drastic.

Then he looked to Zach, giving a nodding in confirmation at his name. It seemed like a question, though he'd just met him not long ago. Ahh well, Rex had some trouble with names as well.

He went to Awen and put his arm over her shoulder in a half-hug, glad to see his girl out and about instead of cramming in video game hours. I reminded her of something to say? He thought, unsure of what it could be. It must be her trying to swim away soon, he was still nervous as could be but decided to keep his emotions hidden. Rex didn't think this was something he should be advertising and telling everyone about.

Lauren Granger
"Hey rex! New huh?" She said as his pretty blue eyes met with hers. Too bad they were attached to a male, such a waste.

"Yeah.. sure thing." She said to Awen. "Now?" What Lauren was hopeing Awen had to talk about was probably not something she was going to talk to Lauren about, but regardless the hope was there. Lauren waited for an answer. "And I need to tell you my thing too!" She looked over at the other islanders. Did she really want to sound excited about this in front of them? She alread got bad PR for being Moreau's student.

For now, Lauren was going to be quiet about things unless proded too deeply.

Awen Zyn
Awen smiled at the exchange. Now? Well... Awen took into concideration who was around. Sure Rex was fine, he already knew... but Awen had already been resolved on the issue not to tell Zach. No...now wasn't a good idea. She didn't want it leaking to too many people. She had only told Amaya and was only planning on telling Lauren, maybe one other person. People she trusted and needed to know she was leaving....

"Um... not now. It's something er... a little more er...private." Great that had two effects coming, Lauren's probably going to think it's something about their hollow-tree talk and/or Zach is going to feel left out because Rex reminded Awen of something to say to Lauren and Zach is hte only one not in the loop. Great. She did not want to hang out for dmaage control on this one.

"But hey whatever, um... I think I'm going to..head to the river.. my.. skin is starting to flake again.."

Zachary Bloodstone
Oh dear, looks like she noticed his curiosity straight off. His arm couldn't possibly be the reason he was hard to miss; maybe it was his totally human looks that made him noticable. Rex had stuck out like a sore thumb to Zach initially, when he hadn't seen a normal person for days.

He looked back at the others. He felt a little awkward, like being alone with the enemy. These two didn't seem very bothered by the island. Lauren, it had already been established, was a big fan of Moreau, whose life or death status was ambiguous. Rex was someone who could only be speculated on, but he gave off this strange sense of NOT being bothered by the island.

Zach cleared his throat and began to toy with the rope on his arm. He sure as hell wasn't going to continue saying things he'd regret.

Rex Vadnais
He continued to smile, looking at Lauren. "New? Umm, I've been around here for a while, but new in several regards." He swept his hands up his chest, motioning to the fact that he'd yet to change. Time was ticking and recently things had seemed that if they didn't get to work on this escape plan, they'd lose all the hope they never had. He'd had his doubts about Awen's journey, but had to remain confident.

Rex wondered if Awen's secret really was the escape plan. Was she not telling Lauren because Zach was around? Awen seemed to trust this blonde girl, she did call her 'a very good friend'. "To the river with yeh?" He looked closer to the rubbery patches on her skin, "yeah, you are looking a little dry."

Zach seemed uncomfortable.. indifferent. Was there something about Rex that just made him feel awkward, or was Zach always like this? He'd left in a hurry back at the cafeteria as well, maybe starting some nice conversation would get him talking again, "So Zach, how've you been? And what's with the outfit? Going mining?" He didn't mean to sound sarcastic or rude, Rex was genuinely curious. You didn't see people in the jungle an odd outfit like that often.

Lauren Granger
A surprised an happy look came upon Lauren's face. It was private? Was it really what she was thinking about? This day kept getting better and better "Sure Awen! It can wait until later." She gave her a wink and another hug. "See ya! Don't be too long."

Yeah she was looking a little dry. She pushed aside several creative thoughts on how to fix that.

Getting her mind out of the gutter, Lauren looked back to Rex, "Yeah, you havn't changed.. that's what I was refering too." He didn't seem too bothered by things which she fond odd and comforting. Maybe this was someone Lauren could talk with about things around here. She mentally jotted his name down to bring up with Moreau later.

Lauren's eyes looked at Zach's outfit. What was that about anyway. And... he was missing an arm as well. Was he a veteran and had wicked cool war stories to tell? "Yeah, what are you planning?" maybe it was a dumb escape attempt.

Awen Zyn
Before they all got too in depth into their 'why is Zach wearing that?' convorsation Awen quickly hugged Rex and Lauren. "See you guys. Um Lauren I'll drop by your duplex after supper, alright?" She nodded a bit then looekd to Zach.

"Nice meeting you. I hope we see eachother again sometime." She smiled brightly and trodded off to the river.

"Bye guys!" She shouted with a slight wave of her hand.

Zachary Bloodstone
"Bye, Awen." His emotions had been drained. Three people he wasn't familiar with, hiding things. Definitely there was something he'd missed out on. But what could he do? Whatever it was, it sounded painful, at least mentally, if not physically.

He looked up from the rope when he realized the question was addressed to him. "I've been... as sane as anyone can be knowing they're fated to this." His hand swept the general vicinity. He wasn't fond of it. He honestly wished for the same ignorant denial he'd had prior to meeting Emelyn.

He shifted his weight to his other leg. "I do some hobby spelunking; it's how the lab caught me." There was some disgust in his voice.

He'd see if they reacted. There was always room for error in his judgement.

Rex Vadnais
Rex hugged Awen quickly then shooed her towards the water. It seemed best to keep her in top condition before her excursion, "Later, Awen!"

It was only now, while examining Zach's outfit closer, that he realized the man was missing a limb! The fact took him by surprise at first, how had he missed it before? He blushed slightly, but didn't say anything about it. Rex'd seen people without arms before, but had never met someone personally with one. He shrugged it off, ignoring his comment about being stranded. Why were people so negative? "Spelunking? That's so cool! I didn't know we had any caves around here!" He remembered the mountain you could see easily from anywhere on the island, but he'd yet to explore there.

Lauren Granger
Lauren blinked at Zach, he obviously hated being here, which she knew. She was there when he spazzed out. "Oh..." She said simply to his statement that he was fated to this.

Then he said something about being caught and looked disgusted. Lauren casually disregarded that part, "Spelunking! That sounds ******** awesome... ooh ooh you SOO have to take me sometime." maybe that was something else she needed to aid to the list, spelunking gear. But it could just be very boring, dark caves, wet rocks.... more wet rocks... mold. Lauren had never been so she had no clue.

"Is it like dangerous ever? Can we go down deep deep pits where you can't see the ground and it's like pitch black? Oh that would be sweet! One slip up and... damn we'd be gone!" Lauren looked rather excited about this. In her mind at least, what she was talking about sounded incredibly dangerous and exciting.

Lauren looked at her watch, she needed to get going soon as she had an apointment with Moreau to go over a few lessons and what homework she needed to do before the next injection. The girl suddenly looked obviously worried at the time.

Zachary Bloodstone
Rex was obviously new to the concept of one arm. Zach just gave him a glassy-eyed gaze back until he finished staring. Neither said anything in regards to his comment about being caught, but there was a moment of awkwardness, which only added to his suspicions.

He didn't like these people. He tried to keep his expressions, and tone, as unaware-sounding as possible. He'd been increasingly cold to them already, so they must know his distrust.

He blinked, surprised at the interest Lauren had for cave-diving. "Yeah, there's a lot of that. It's pretty exciting, very dark, and dangerous. I could take you some time, but I don't have enough equipment for more than just myself..." He wasn't about to order any from the doctors here.

"I..." Oh great, he preferred not to think about the dangers of spelunking. She brought back memories of the times he'd very nearly repeated his first accident... it made him feel a little weak. He could tell the color was draining from his face.

At least she looked like she was going to leave. He didn't want to talk about it.

Rex Vadnais
Rex, too, was taken aback by Lauren's sudden interest in spelunking. Danger girl, eh?

He'd done his fair share of extreme sports. Wind, kite and regular surfing, rock climbing and snow boarding. He highly enjoyed lacrosse as well. And he was a gymnast and water polo player at his old school. Yeah, Rex loved his sports (however obscure they may be), and his body reflected that. "If I can get the gear and find a spot, we'll have to go rock climbing or surfing sometime. You do much sports?" he asked, speaking mostly with Lauren, but indirectly to Zach if he wanted to show interest in the offer.

Lauren Granger
"That sounds wicked cool. I definatelywant to go sometime." Lauren said to Zach.

"Hell yeah! Sounds like fun. Mostly swimming, I've done some surfing back when I was younger but suck a** at it. I've got a surf board comming. I can get gear as well. Hell, I can probably get just about anything I want." Lauren smiled largly at the outward boast. Except a car... She thought with some agitation.

"I'm up for trying anything." Lauren liked to stay active, it kept her body calmer and her mind off of things. She needed to move nearly constantly most of the time. Her high metabolism required it.

She looked at her watch again, "Well crap, I need to be somewhere." she didn't specify where exactly. "See ya suckers later." She started off, "Oh and be careful spelunking Zach. Wouldn't want you to loose another arm!" Lauren added as she winked at the poor man. She just had to press that button. To her, it was begging to be pressed.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach shook his head at Rex's indirect offer. "I can't rock climb." The story was the same with swimming. He was completely used to it.

The negativity he'd been feeling about Lauren reached a high point. Zach's right hand and all of his fingers curled into a fist at his side upon Lauren's parting remark. Tears weren't really fitting of the situation. Instead, a dry anger seemed to fill him until they'd come later. That girl was callous.

His hand relaxed after a certain amount of time, sore. He hated this place, this island. All he wanted was to leave. If he had to endure people like Lauren on top of a transformation...

Well, to say he'd go completely and totally insane was an understatement.

He looked back up at Rex, shifting his weight again. "So the doctors here tricked you into coming?"

Rex Vadnais
"Really, Lauren? Do you have connections with the doctors? Oh if you could hook me up with a board and some clothes I'd love you forever." He said jokingly, though she was oddly attractive. He waved her good bye, chuckling in his head at the last comment so he didn't offend Zach. This guy seemed tense, maybe he was overly sensitive or just couldn't take a joke. He saw the fist form at his side while he watched him stare her down. Easy, Bucko. T'was just a joke.

"The doctors?" He said, now alone with Zach in the jungle, "Oh no... I- .. We-... I washed up on shore a while ago. Fell off a boat" Rex fumbled, trying to find the correct wording for his situation, though his answer was simple and got the point across. "That's why I haven't got anything besides these threads and a tie." He cleared his throat, "You said the scientists tricked you onto here with your cave exploration? I'm sorry man..." He put a hand on Zach's shoulder in an attempt to comfort him, Rex knew he'd had some trouble with the thought of being stuck here.

"Well, I think that I'm going to continue with my walk. Never got any exercise sitting around talking! I'll talk to you later though, maybe see you in the cafeteria or randomly run into you in the jungle again." Rex chuckled, realizing how unlikely it was to meet with these people withough any planning. He waved a hand and continued to jog straight off into the thicket, a little cardio was sure nice.

Zachary Bloodstone
Joke or not, comments like that hurt. Zach tended to be petty on that issue - he'd deflect pity, but to make fun of it basically asked for a permanent grudge. Rex looked uncomfortable - not being Zach, he wouldn't understand the sting of the remark anyhow.

Washing up here? It seemed far from coincidence, but certainly possible. Hopefully someone was looking for him. Or 'them'. Rex's stuttering offered the possibility of someone the man was afraid to discuss.

Zach stiffened a little at the touch. He wasn't comfortable with this guy. He didn't seem aware of the severity of their situation... "Don't be sorry. I'm an idiot, that's all there is to it." No doubt about that, he chimed inwardly.

He waved wealky as the tall guy left. He was so tired of this place... the stress of seeing each victim of the experimenting was taking its toll on him. He still had the grime of the beach and jungle all over him, meaning that shower was still desperately wanted.

He looked up a moment at the helmet on his head. Perhaps it would be better if he just lit his way back, just this one time... After some hesitation, he flicked on the light. It illuminated a beaten little path. It looked like it was in the right direction. He'd just follow it and see where it took him. Hopefully, the village. He didn't have any other way to gauge the whereabouts of the village, anyhow.

Confidence
Antony doesn't bite... hard.

Zachary Bloodstone
The sun was pretty bright out. Zach was glad he had his sunglasses on. The sand was hot when it got onto his feet through his sandals. His towel was slung over his shoulders, protecting his arm situation from being clearly seen. He had some loose swim trunks on. Other than that, his pale skin was overall visible.

He had been hoping the beach would be deserted by the afternoon, seeing how hot the weather was. No such luck. Two figures were on the beach, their voices just soft enough that he couldn't make out their words. One, though, he recognized, and immediately he wanted back into the cover of the trees.

It was Antony.

He couldn't miss those three winding tails, or her whitish gleam of fur. He had to apologize. But he'd been hoping perhaps they'd never meet again.

Oh well, she must have heard him coming. Pulling the towel tighter against himself, he approached the pair.

Colche
Colche nodded holding tightly to ntony for a moment longer "Okay, tell Aubrey" she would see Aubrey when she saw her, Aubrey had promised to come and visit soon.

Her furry ears perked at the sound of approaching foot falls and her deep blue eyes fell on yet another man. Men seemed to be multiplying here. She looked up at Antony, searching for a good man, bad man catagory for this man. She hadn't even noticed his lack of arm at this point. her eyes were still a little worried and she shivered still though she was slowly calming. She liked Antony she was a big sister figure to the cheetah girl she trusted her judgment. If Antony said something, Colche took it as something to go by, she had been right about Aubrey after all, she also felt protected by the older woman, nothing bad would happen as long as she was there she was pretty sure.

Antoinette Devereux
Antony heard the footsteps and glanced behind her towards where Colche had looked.

It was Zach.

"He's not bad," she said reassuringly to the cheetah girl, patting her head in a comforting gesture as she continued to watch Zach approach. Damn he was paler than her it seemed. Not that she was surprised by this fact or anything.

Waiting until he was within range where she could speak normally and he could still hear her, Antony raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "Did you figure out I was telling the truth yet Shorty?" A grin formed over her features, and obvious sign that she was joking.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach hadn't been looking at the other person around. He was still too focused on Antony. He smiled weakly in response to her quip. "I-I... yeah..." He couldn't seem to get many words out now... last time he'd seen her, she'd-- he didn't need to think about it again.

There wasn't much humor in the island situation, in Zach's opinion. He had other things on his mind. He'd had no preparation for this, as he'd been blissfully forgetful of how easy it was to run into people more than once. How was he going to do this? He clambered over a dune to reach the two other beachgoers.

As soon as he looked down a bit though, his concentration on the apology was completely broken. He hadn't been paying attention until now. The other person here on the beach was a completely naked girl with the face of a cat. His head snapped sideways away just as quickly, so he didn't notice the fur patterns that adorned her.

He now looked away into the jungle, his face a burning red. How is it surprising I found her with Antony? His grip tightened further on his towel.

"Um... she's not...?" He was sure Antony was aware of the indecent exposure. Well, ha-ha.

Colche
Colche tilted her head softly, hardly anyone acctually reacted like that to her. She suddenly remembered some people shouted at her when she padded about naked. "oops!" she giggles tilting her head lightly it always amused her when people got all shy around HER of all people. Her long tail swayed behind her the very tip twitching on it's own "good man?" she just double checked with antony before pulling away slightly and poking Zach with a claw "Colche"she stated going back to Antony, she wasn't going to get over this shock of there being a bad man around for a while. She would be cautious until they were defiantely prooven to be good.

Her jet black hair fell over her cheeks and right down her front though a breeze ruffled it occassionally her fur and rounded fluffy ears moving in the seas breeze. There was no reason to be shy in Colche's humble oppinion, she always walked around like this, it wasn't like she was completely naked, she ahd fur after all. She grinned suddenly and looked up at Antony "I..finded..ded..eded out what I is" she grins looking at ntony before blurting out her new found Animal title "Colche..I ams a princess cheetah" she grins, the title derived from her markings being a king chjeetah and dubbed princess cheetah by Ambrose she had taken it completely to heart that she was princess cheetah.

Antoinette Devereux
"Always," Antony replied to his question, giving him a look that told him to leave the subject of Colche being naked alone. "Besides, there's nothing wrong with the female body."

Then again, this guy's mannerisms screamed virgin.

Her attention turned back to Colche when she spoke again, and Antony grinned, "That's great Colche." Well, the girl did look happy about the fact that she was turning into said animal, why not congradulate her about it?

Zachary Bloodstone
"It's not that. You both have..." If he could have turned any redder than he already was, it would have happened. "Wonderful bodies." Apparently there was no way in hell to avoid Antony's bite. Zach's mind returned to the task at hand, carefully keeping his eyes level with Antony's. He was glad for the breeze, his face felt like it was on fire.

"Antony, I'm really sorry about that day... I guess I just didn't think it was possible for all of this..." He shook his head. "You were right."

The poke in the arm and announcing of a name almost made him look down. "Um... pleased to meet you, Colche. I'm Zach." He could not look down, he just wasn't used to having to stare at naked girls without feeling some sort of embarassment for the both of them.

So she knew what she was becoming. Something about the cheetah girl was a little off. It was how she spoke. Like there was something mentally wrong with her... he sincerely hoped it had nothing to do with the island, though it was pretty much the most likely reason. He didn't want to ask. The girl was probably not even be capable of explaining, anyhow. He felt pity for her, though he said nothing about it.

Colche
Colche looked up at him still curious though she didn't like that hedidn't look at her. Alot of guys were shy around her at first, she never really understood why. Still she wasn't to be phased,s he looked up atAntony with that sweet beaming grin, possibly Colche was the only creature in the world able to turn a somre looking cheetah in to a cute happy kitty "oh! Antopny come watch Dee Vee Dees wif uhm me?" she puurred, ehr speach patterns were getting so much better, the discovery of the entertainment room and disney was about to expand ehr vocabulary further, she wanted so baddly to learn all the songs she loved to sing.

Looking at Zach she tilted ehr head, he was still looking so shy, frightened of her maybe? She released Antony and walked around the man tilting her head and body so she could look him in the eyes "zach come too? dee vee dees?" she grins broadly, nice men were okay in ehr books.

Antoinette Devereux
She waited for him to finish his apology before she replied, a confident smirk playing along her full lips. "Oh I know, thanks, and apology accepted. Does that cover everything?" It was a rhetorical question, and it was obvious that Antony was amused by Zach.

Watching Zach and Colche interact, Antony looked thoughtful when Colche asked her if she wanted to watch movies with her. "Depends, what DVD do you want to watch?" Trying to think of a movie that Colche would like and was PG, Antony couldn't think of anything but Disney. "How about The Lion King? That was always my favorite." Like hell she'd tell anyone that it made her cry when she was little either.

"Coming Zach dear?" Her eyes sparkled with mischief while carrying a sincere air to them as well.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach fidgeted with the towel. This was by far the most uncomfortable conversation he'd had on the island.

He gave another involuntary gasp when Colche ended up in front of him, looking up. This was not going to be easy.

"Oh-oh no, I'll stay here..." He couldn't avoid looking at her when she was right in front of him. He looked over at Antony helplessly, then back to Colche's grinning face. "You'll have more fun watching them with- with Antony."

She accepted the apology unusually fast, so he was taken aback. He felt like an idiot around her - she was masterful at keeping him uncomfortable in his own skin. "No... I need some sun." It was true.

He'd never liked the Lion King much, anyhow. Too much death and despair. There was enough to be found in real life.

Colche
Colche pouted a bit, but the guy did look very pale "Okay!" she stated looking to Antony with a grin and a twitch of her tail. That bright little light lit up her eyes then and she gave a little giggle "Race ya" but before Antony could anser, she was up the beach lifting Ambrose's polo shirt, she was pretty sure he would want it back. She turned around slipping the shirt over her head with acheeky grin before she was off again like a shot. Cheating wasn't really in her vocabulary, she just loved to race.

Of course, having already had a swift run down the beach before meeting Billy she found herself to be overly tired by the time she got to the Entertainment room. She yawned, showing all those little catty fangs in her mouth before she curled up on the big sofa in front of the TV. She'd just have a little nap, until Antony got here. She yawned again, those big blue eyes closing to the world, unfortunately she dozed straight off, her little nap was quickly becoming her afternoon sleep unwakable bar for by very loud noises.

Antoinette Devereux
Antony nodded towards Colche, but didn't really intend to run after a cheetah. For one, she wasn't wearing a sports bra and running without one blew, especially for someone of her curves. "Meet you there Colche."

Glancing over to Zach, her eyebrow raised again as she caught sight of his pale skin, "You'll burn... Besides, what's wrong with being pale?" She was teasing him, but made a face of mock hurt as if he had just insulted her skin tone.

"Oh come on," she rolled her eyes and hooked her arm around his, turning him around and then half guiding and half dragging the shorter man towards the village. Soon she was leaning over and whispering huskily in his ear for the sole reason of freaking him out, "I haven't bitten you yet have I?"

Seconds later she was facing front again, and acting as if nothing had happened.

Virgins were so funny.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach was relieved to see Colche had put a shirt on before she left.

He shifted uncomfortably at her look of false pain. "Nothing, I just-"

He was cut short as the taller woman pretty much dragged him back to the village. He stumbled a bit until he managed to match her walking pace, unable to free his arm and unsure if that was even a good idea.

He'd actually felt a little less scared of her sudden and aggressive behavior, seeing as he'd first been introduced to the island through it - but the whisper threw him all the way back to square one. He wouldn't put it past her to sink her teeth into him. His heartbeat quickened and he shivered.

Why me?

Antoinette Devereux
Antony simply chuckled, "You need to relax man... So wound up..." Trailing off, she continued to navigate her way to the entertainment room, humming softly the rest of the way there. Upon arrival, she noticed that Colche was sleeping, and not wanting to disturb her, Antony went quietly inside and plucked The Lion King off the shelf.

Setting it next to the sleeping cheetah girl, she went back outside where she had left Zach. "Looks like you lucked out Shorts," she grinned, leaning back against the building while contimplating something.

"How do you relax anyways?" She questioned soon after, gazing at him with genuine interest.

Zachary Bloodstone
"This isn't really a relaxing place," he shot back quietly once she'd released her grip on him.

He waited outside the building for her, hastily adjusting the towel over his shoulders again. It nearly fell while they were heading over to the entertainment room. He was sure she'd probably attempt to look anyhow.

When she returned, he pulled the sunglasses off and held then at his side. His eyes were still widened by the residual fear of everything he'd seen and heard on the island. The look alone was an explanation in itself "Here? I don't..."

"But writing certainly helps." He didn't go into detail on that. His notebook, safely hidden in his room, was a great source of comfort. "What about you?" He loosely gestured at her upper half, directed at her changes.

Antoinette Devereux
"Well, back home my work usually relaxed me... But that's gone now," she sighed, glancing down at what he motioned towards. Assuming he had meant her tattoos and not her changes, Antony chuckled, "Getting inked always relaxed me as well, but nowadays I only really have surfing and orgasms for calming down."

Actually, there was a lot she could do to relax on the island now that she thought about it, but there was also loads of people to piss her off and the daily reminder that her father was alone back at home.

And then there was Owl.

She watched him a moment before finally saying something about his lack of arm, "You shouldn't hide who you are..." Pausing, Antony motioned towards under his towel, "How'd you lose it if you don't mind me asking?"

See, she wasn't too bad.

Zachary Bloodstone
He had noticed the tattoos adorning Antony's arms and back. While they looked amazing, he couldn't imagine how painful they must have been to get. At the word "orgasm", he winced a little. Was everything about sex with her?

"The surfing here must be pretty good," he remarked, making an obvious point of not talking about her other interest.

"It's hard to look at if you're not used to it..." He shifted his left shoulder uncomfortably. Her interest in his arm made him a little tense. Well, he'd told Duvert the story, why not let the whole island know. "When I was a kid, I fell in a cave crevice. I did worse than breaking it... it was smashed to pieces. When I got rescued, it was amputated before it could get infected."

He didn't share the little details with her, as they were better left to the imagination of others - the screaming, the blood, and above everything, the PAIN.

Antoinette Devereux
"Shattered huh?" Antony noticed the wince, but let it slide, having already figured that when anything having to do with sex was mentioned, he got uncomfortable. "Well, that just goes to show you're stronger than you think, and you have the scars to prove it. I think you just need more confidence in yourself."

She shrugged, pushing off the building before reaching out to cautiously tug at the end of the towel, "Nobody's going to get used to you if you keep it hidden all the time. Trust me, I know. People are judgemental assholes a lot of the time, but you just can't let them get to you... If you do then you'll be miserable and hate yourself."

There really was truth to the statement of 'don't judge a book by its cover,' it was just hard not to judge.

Zachary Bloodstone
"Thanks..." He certainly didn't feel strong. If anything, he was getting weaker. "This island is just driving me insane. I'm usually not this high-strung," he lied.

Zach hadn't been holding on to the towel, and at her pull it slipped. He dove for it, but not before Antony got a good glimpse of the remains of his left arm.

Where one would expect the arm to be after the shoulder, there was very little of it, simply a rounded end that pointed down toward the ground. All around it were vicious-looking scars, mostly from the cutting and tearing of bone and rock. It looked like it had taken a long time to heal.

He quickly threw the towel over his left side, his voice shaky. He couldn't meet her gaze. "I'd rather just stay miserable."

Antoinette Devereux
Antony didn't flinch, or show any expression of disgust when she saw the stump. Believe it or not, she had seen people without limbs. In fact, the tattooed woman had seen lots of people with eccentric quirks and/or body modifications. She even knew a guy that cut off his own fingers as a body modification.

"Your choice," she said with a shrug, "One day you'll figure it out." It was strange that he had had the accident so long ago, but was still not able to feel comfortable in his own body.

She watched him for a moment before catching his chin in her hand, pulling his gaze to meet her own. "Don't let people make you feel miserable for being yourself."

Zachary Bloodstone
"M-maybe..." He didn't really look to the future often. He reached to put his sunglasses back on.

He didn't get that far. Antony pulled his face back to face hers. He was reminded again by her red eyes of nothing but sorrow in the future for her. He looked down. "I'm... I just..."

He pulled away from her clawed hand. As much as she seemed to have concern, he didn't want it. He'd be truthful with her. "I just feel better when I don't have those stares. I'm not strong. Not like you are. I'd rather just conform."

Not that there was much of that going on around here.

Antoinette Devereux
Antony frowned when he pulled away from her hand, and after a moment she let it drop to her side.

"Zach," she began with a sigh, "You're on an island where people are turning into animals... I really don't think you missing an arm is going to be such an attention grabber in comparison. But... Whatever man." There was obviously no way that she was going to get through to this guy. She wasn't about to sit there and throw him loads of compliments as a lame attempt to up his self-esteem. He'd just have to figure it out himself someday.

And it'd probably be someday soon considering the island he was on.

Zachary Bloodstone
He put the sunglasses back on to free his hand, and brushed some of his long bangs aside in contemplation. She was right. But all the same...

Deep down he'd still had a slight hope to cling to. He'd never actually seen a person become an animal - it was the missing gap that allowed him enough disbelief to play along. So everyone was turning into animals? Let them.

As long as it wasn't himself.

Antony looked exasperated with him, so he made to leave. "I'm sorry I wasted your time. Colche's had a long nap already... you can go watch your movie with her."

He waved as he walked away, back to the duplexes of the village. He wasn't going back to the beach today, oh no. A shower would be plenty of compensation for the ocean.

Antoinette Devereux
And then he left Antony rolling her eyes and chuckling. This guy was going to flip when he finally sees someone transforming, or even worse, transform himself.

Sooner or later the s**t would hit the fan.

And with that thought in mind, Antony made her way back to her duplex, figuring that Colche needed the nap more than the movie.

Unbelievable
Zach's not prepared to watch Rex change... and faints.

Rex Vadnais
"Grah!" Rex yelled, scratching his chest and face violently. The annoyance, along with his dream, forced him awake in a scratching frenzy. He'd had a little itching before he went to sleep, but had washed his face and ignored the itch. But over night it became unbearable! He itched and scrapped at his skin, leaving small white lines and reddening the area around it.

Only while scratching his arms did he see it. A small, puffy spot on the inside of his arm. Oh no... He'd had his blood drawn before and knew that little puffy spot well. Rex was stunned, his mind blocked the everpresent itching for a split second as it hit him. Now his fate was officially sealed here on the island, was there any point of Awen trying to leave? And what about Avery, he'd panic when he found out Rex was changing. The burning soon covered most of his body, he needed the cool. He looked to the clock which shone 5:00 AM, the room was dark even with the shudders open. It'd be cooler outside.

Rex ran to the door in a hurry, bursting the door open and stumbling outside. The morning air was cooler than inside his duplex, but it wasn't enough to muffle the crazy sensation his skin felt. He continued to claw at his chest wildly, noticing the hair on his chest turn lighter and a thicker like... fur. His hands ached as well. Rex looked to his palms and saw dark pads forming in different patches on his hand. Then his finger nails felt pushed and forced from his hands. "YAAH!" he screamed, not considering the other sleeping islanders in their duplexes.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach hadn't been able to sleep well ever since he'd come to the island. He figured some fresh air would probably help. After throwing on a robe, he stepped outside, listening to the cries of birds.

However, another cry pierced those. It was human.

Zach immediately pinpointed where it was coming from - Rex, the man he'd met recently, had stumbled out of his duplex. He was scratching at himself all over, and howling, in nothing but his boxers.

It was a split second decision, but Zach had to see what was wrong. His mind skipped over the possibility of what it truly was. It couldn't be... He raced down the stairs of his duplex. He was over at Rex's place in practically ten seconds. The other man continued to cry out, writhing. And upon seeing the situation, Zach wished he'd never woken up in the first place.

This was a transformation.

Rex Vadnais
Rex stood watching his hands in shock, he didn't even notice Zach approaching from his duplex in the distance. His palms became rougher as the callouses turned to bulbous pads as he saw something poke up from underneath his finger nails. A dark spot, pushing outward as if trying to break free from below. Claws...?

What was he turning into? Something with fur obviously, so a mammal. Then he remembered the glimpses from his dream. The proud and majestic animal, silhoutted in flashes. The thought was wiped from his mind as the dark spots pushed harder and farther until his finger nails popped off. "YEEEEAAOOW!" he screamed, blood spilling from where the finger nails once were. Soon the protuding black spot pushed farther and farther out until is took up the entire space of his finger nails. He felt the same happen to his feet, twenty nails and drops of blood littered the ground around Rex.

He fell to the ground, something stretching at the end of his tail bone. Paniked sobs came in scattered breaths and suddenly Rex's eyes began to tingle slightly. It was hardly anything noticeable compated to the pain in his back.

Rex Vadnais
The pain was getting worse and worse, his tail bone elongating several inches. The fur soon grew there as well, followed by wirey darker hairs erupting from the end. Rex writhed in pain as the itching continued, the thick fur grew on his chin and his stubble densened to nearly a beard. Every hair on his body was a seperate tinge of pain. Thankfully his hands and feet quit changing.

Only when Zach knelt down next to him did he evern realize another person was there. His blue mascara eyes looked painfully to Zach who was.. laughing? How could anyone find a remote form of glee in another person's pain. "Help m- me, Zach!" He yelled in pain, his voice quavering as a new pain showed itself in Rex's mouth. His teeth warped and stretched forward like fangs, sitting awkwardly in Rex's mouth. Then... Zach fainted. It didn't mean anything to Rex at the moment though, his mind had all attention focussed on the pain ensuing throughout his body.

Suddenly, a completely obscure and inappropriate thought glimmered in Rex's mind. This is so cool! ...wait, WHAT?! Did I just- His thoughts were interupted as a low rumbling formed deep somewhere in Rex's chest and erupted from his mouth while he tried to scream. The half roar reverberated off the duplex walls, but left the two figures in an eerie silence there in the road.

It finished.

Rex panted, exhausted from so much pain at once. His blue eyes staring at his the new hands before him. He couldn't think, couldn't focus, couldn't concentrate on pulling himself together. He just sat there, quiet as could be.

No, Zach... Though it seemed to Rex that this man didn't really like him for some reason, He still ahd to check and see that the guy was all right. Giving his mind an objective, Rex dragged himself over to Zach, wiping a leftover tear from his eye. He shook the man gently, "Za-" His voice was twisted and still shook from screaming. He tried to speak again, clearing his throat and sniffing, "Zach."

Zachary Bloodstone
A strange voice was calling him back to consciousness. He didn't want to go back... but the pained voice and a physical shaking couldn't keep him out for long. Groaning with annoyance, he opened a single brown eye.

As soon as he'd focused his sight on Rex, it all came back to him.

He felt... strange. Airy. The world didn't feel so real around him. He did not, however, like the memories. As the huge clawed hand pushed him again, he cried out, rolling away from it. His voice, again, was not his, as it screeched "Get away!"

Get away from me, all of you. Everyone on this damned island.

As he pulled himself into a sitting position, he stared at Rex. Did his words hurt? Rex looked shocked. How sad, he seemed to be crying too... What had he said? He could hardly piece everything together moment-to-moment.

Finally, Zach tried again to speak. It felt strange to him. Maybe he was still asleep in his bed. What then, of seeing Rex's agony? He wasn't sure. He wasn't sure about anything. He didn't really trust himself to know who the hell he was right now.

His voice felt like an echo, following too far after his thoughts to truly be his own. "You changed."

Doesn't need me to tell him that... he thought, rather dizzy.

Amaya Vaughan
Amaya sat up in bed with a gasp as a scream reached her ears. Blinking she looked around in the darkness... Had she been dreaming? It kind of sounded like... Rex. Her brow furrowed and she was about to lay back down when another scream reached her duplex. "Crap!" Jumping out of bed she threw on a top and a sarong over her panties before running out the door.

The days of hiding spent in her room had been forgotten now that Rex might be hurt... or worse, changing. She jogged down the line of duplexes towards the ones on the end where Rex had first seen his own duplex.

"Rex!" She could see him in the early light of the morning, thankful that the tropical weather was welcoming even when it was this early. Though she didn't see the man on the other side of him.

Rex Vadnais
When Zach sprung awake Rex jolted back. He felt like a monster as the man screamed for him to get away. "Zach.. It's me, don't worry." He said, sighing. He came to his feet and offered a hand for Zach to get up. He tried not to think about the fact that he was any different than he was a few hours ago, but every time he saw his hands, Rex had to do a double take.

Then he heard a voice, Rex turned and saw the green figure jogging their way. "Amaya..." he sighed, realizing that he'd just gone through the same awful experience that he helped the girl go through a few days prior. He ran to the girl and embraced her in a hug, "How do I look...?" he said. Half serious and half joking, hoping to lighten the mood as the sun was lighting the morning sky.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach grabbed the hand and pulled himself up to his feet. He felt... pain? Something sharp pressed into the back of his hand, and the oily feel of blood was running down it. Couldn't be his. When Rex's padded hand released his own, there were four neat punctures. He stared, saying nothing. He didn't even look at Rex, who was a far more bizarre sight.

He only looked away from the cuts to see a large green lizard come over, who was immediately hugged by Rex.

His mind faltered a little at that. It kind of stopped at green. He looked back at the blood, which was now winding its way slowly down to his fingertips. Back to the talking pair.

The lizard sounded like a girl. His mouth hung open a little as he tried to find something to say. Finally, he found something. His voice followed far too slowly after his thoughts.

"You're green."

She is green, he repeated to himself again, astounded. If he knew better, he'd say she was not only green but covered in scales. Huh. Who'd have guessed? What a weird place to wake up.

Amaya Vaughan
The iguana girl ran straight into the embrace, hugging him tight. She looked up at him, the frown on her face evident... though it wasn't disgusted or shocked, it was sad. Amaya had never wanted him to go through such a thing.

Though then she smiled. A genuine smile as she patted his now furry chest with a scaley palm. "You look the same, don't worry." His eyes did seem more... well, exotic and attractive, but it wasn't enough to set him any different then he had been moments before.

Amaya frowned once more, looking up at him. She still hadn't noticed Zach. "I'm sorry... are you still hurt?" She then pulled away from the hug, not wanting to touch any sore spots that might've been on him.

You're green.

Green eyes shot open and looked around Rex at the man standing behind him. Her tail swished across the ground behind her and she used the newly changed man as a sheild. Mouth locked up she simply stared back, the urge to run and hide rising by the second.

But no, Rex might need her help to get through his first change. She... she had to stay, despite her mind's screaming.

Rex Vadnais
Rex pulled a hand away from Zach's and saw the four small puncture wounds, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" Rex said, fussing over the blood, though his hands were bloody as well. But stopped to think when he saw the glazed look on his face, "Um.. ar-" he cleared his throat, trying to sound strong as usual. It returned to it's usual deep tone and he continued, "Are you all right?"

Rex hugged Amaya tight and chuckled, "The same? Only a little hairier than before." He chuckled, looking at the transformations in a positive light certainly helped make him feel better about the changes. Sometimes a little joke made everything better. "I'm not hurt now that it stopped. Just a little sore." the blood continued to drip from his fingers and splatter in a red death on the ground, but eventually came to stop. "Mostly my butt.." He turned, trying to look over his shoulder at the newly formed tail, he'd have to be careful not to sit on it or something. "What animal do you think?" It wasn't the sea lion that Rex had hoped for, but he knew it was something fuzzy, and that meant he wasn't a lizard like Amaya. What did Rex have to look forward to?

Rex turned to look at Zach's rude comment, "Yeah, she is. So what?" He replied sharply, turning to hug Amaya again. Don't mess with my friends.

Zachary Bloodstone
The weird feeling he'd had clouding his brain since he'd been woken up had slowly been dissipating. He'd stood up too quickly, he figured. Something else was wrong. Looking at the man with sharp teeth and a tail was not in the least bit scary... he couldn't recall the transformation. Rex hadn't always looked so furry.

His hand hurt. He pulled his hand back from Rex and wiped it against his robe, gritting his teeth against the sting. He pieced together what had happened a little more, figuring something had thrown him into shock. "Just dizzy..." Ouch. Thank goodness he hadn't been paying attention to those cuts a few moments ago or he-

Zach looked up again. Rex didn't look too happy with him. He knew he'd said something earlier... something about green? He took a step back, wondering what he'd done while he'd been unable to think clearly. He peered over at the lizard, Amaya, who was caught in Rex's hug. His mind did a double-take.

Lizard.

"She's...uh..." He didn't really have much to say. She was a lizard. Yes. Very observant. Rex had freaking claws. Zach faltered as he took more and more steps away from them. His fearful nature had crept back into its rightful place. "I'm just going to leave now..."

Amaya Vaughan
Amaya was snapped away for a moment and looked at Rex's a**. If she was capable of blushing, she probably would have. "Uh..." She stared at the new limb for a moment, only one animal came to mind. "A lion?" She asked more then stated.

Though then when he defended her and hugged her again, she could feel the heat in her body pushing at her cheeks even though it didn't show. The girl hugged him back, wacthing Zack and burrying half of her face into Rex's chest.

A deep, sad frown formed at Zach's unfinished sentence and she turned her head to look away, half of it still burried into the bright blonde fur.

She's a monster. She's bald. She's green and covered in scales. She looks like something from an old black and white horror movie. As each sentence formed in her mind she could feel the tears starting to work their way to the brims of her eyes.

Rex Vadnais
Rex held Amaya tight in his arms, gingerly wiping a tear from her eye. "Here, let's start over!" he said, keeping his arm around her shoulder, but openeing up to Zach. "This is Amaya. Amaya, this is Zachary." He said, motioning to the person when he said their name. Speaking still sounded a little twisted with Rex's new canines, but he ignored them and continued to speak as usual.

He turned to Amaya, the image from his dream coming back to him once more. The strong creature... now that he thought about the little that he remembered, it did make sense. He repeated her words, "A lion? ..Wow." He was in shock. The whole time he was thinking too bad about the situation. He deeply thought he was going to change into something much worse, like a toad or some ugly bug. But a lion? Suddenly he was even more excited about his change than before.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach stopped walking backwards. He put a a hand up to wave, fingers slowly curling back down as he pulled back. She looked offended by his practically unsaid sentence, to the point of tears. Again, he felt like running. What could he say to her that wouldn't make her feel worse? Rex seemed more in charge of the situation, so perhaps he could sort things out.

Cautiously he moved back closer to their group, overhearing the animal they presumed Rex had become. Yes, Rex's tail did have the telltale appearance of a lion's tuft. The guy was downright ecstatic. Zach frowned.

"So, Amaya," he started. He didn't want to look Amaya in the eye, he felt guilty. He'd have to keep the conversation off of her... appearance. "How long have you been here?"

Amaya Vaughan
The lizard girl shifted in the arm still around her, staying close to Rex since she felt safe, comfortable... and accepted depite her horrid apperance by him. Green eyes stayed on the ground as the sun started to rise over the trees and buildings, illuminating her scales and warming them up.

She didn't meet Zach's eyes either, her tail giving a twitch behind her. "I... uh..." How long had she been here? It took her a moment to think. "... Seven months, I think." Wow, it had been that long?

Rex Vadnais
Rex smiled, glad he'd semi-mediated the situation as he kept Amaya close to him. He watched the sunrise as well, this was the first time that he'd seen it since he'd come to the island. And boy, was it beautiful.

Happy that Zach didn't flat out leave when he addressed him, he nodded to the man, telling him to come back and be a part of the conversation. "Seven months? Wow, that's quite some time." It was good to get off the subject of Amaya change in a negative way. She was still the same Amaya he'd met on the beach that fateful morning.

Zachary Bloodstone
The sunrise announced the break of another day on this trap of an island. Zach looked away from the bright light. He couldn't get over Amaya's obvious swishing tail. Every transformed individual he met was a scare. Would it ever end...

He came a little closer, unsure of himself. The number was shocking. This island experiement had been active for at least seven months! He shivered. Oh dear, Amaya probably thought it was because of her. His right hand, still bleeding a little, immediately gripped his left shoulder. A nervous habit. He was definitely nervous. It felt awful, but at the same time, it felt natural.

He glanced over at the mountain. "So no one's escaped, huh?"

Amaya Vaughan
"Yeah..." Amaya looked up at Rex with a tiny smile. "It's okay though. Aside from the... changing. I don't mind it here." She had nothing left to loose when she came here anyway.

"Escaped?" Green eyes drifted up to Zach, oblivious of his missing limb. Missing something like that was the least of her concerns. "Not that I know of. There were a handful of people already here when I was brought here. None of them mentioned escape..." She trailed off for a moment, looking down. The poor guy would probably never get off... just like Rex and Avery. "The entire island is bugged with cameras and microphones. Not to mention Moreau can put us to sleep with a single word." It was like being a trapped animal... literally.

Rex Vadnais
"Gosh, I'm sorry about the bleeding thing." He blushed, taking his arm away from Amaya and gesturing to let him see the punctures. "Maybe we should get these cleaned up. I mean.. I've got my duplex right here" Plus he wanted to see how different he was, touching his new fangs lightly.

Escape? The thought percolated in his head. Would the escape with Amaya still work? Thankfully his mind was preoccupied with worrying about the harm he'd caused Zach, "gosh I'm so sorry sorry sorry.." He mumbled under his breath."

Zachary Bloodstone
The changing... wow. He wasn't happy he'd seen Rex transform, but there was no more proof necessary. There was no act. There wasn't a hope left to cling to there.

He listened to Amaya's words, nodding. He just wanted to be sure... he was pretty much asking everyone these days. He was addicted to hope, it seemed. His eyes grew wide at the mention of the cameras and microphones, though. NO. Just... no. Impossi- well, not impossible. On this island, nothing was impossible, unfortunately. The limits of science had been bent, broken, and replaced with something entirely different. The magic word issue he'd heard about, but he was still skeptical of it... not that there was a reason to be skeptical any more.

He politely turned down Rex's offer. "No, no, I'll be fine. Really." The bleeding had slowed to a slight trickle, though there was a reddish tinge to his skin around the punctures. He held up his hand to let Rex look, though. Maybe the damage he had done would open the lion-man's eyes to the negative side of the transformation.

Amaya Vaughan
The iguana girl hadn't noticed Zach's hand bleeding until Rex mentioned it. Blinking, she looked down at the blood and wondered how the lion had possibly hurt him. Claws, probably. "Yeah, you should go wash it off... I think every duplex has bandaids and stuff." She said timidly.

Awen Zyn
Awen stormed up to the duplex and was going to slip the note under Rex's door but paused. Amaya Zach and Rex were all outside. She took a deep breath and kept walking forward. She seemed angry, the usually greyish toned skin was a little red. She paused before Rex and handed him a note which read:

Quote:
It's time. I'm not waiting anymore. Once I'm gone please tell everybody. Especially Chubbs and Jamal.... I'm heading off the beach by the beach bar, just to give you an indication.

Bye Rex,

Awen

P.S. Wish me luck.

And with that the blue haired girl was gone. She turned on her heel and trodded purposefully off to the beach.

Rex Vadnais
"Mmm.." Rex groaned, examining the damage he'd done. "Yeah, I can't leave this alone. Let me get some neosporen and bandaids." He turned to run into his duplex really quickly but was intercepted by an infuriated Awen. "Awen.." He said, but before he could say any more a note was crammed in his hand. He looked up, making sure that the others couldn't see.

He read it quickly, though he knew what it said before she gave it to him. She's leaving... Rex looked at the girl, storming into the sunrise. He wanted to follow her SO BADLY, but he knew this was something that she had to do for herself. He'd had similar moments, there was somethings that you had to do on your own. "Bye Awen..." he whispered. His eyes welled up, but he had to stay strong. Wiping them from his face he clenched the note tight in his fist since his boxers didn't have any pockets. "So!" Rex sniffed, trying not to cry, "Lets go inside." He turned quickly, trying to hide his tears until he knew that Awen had time to swim off.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach couldn't really reject the help from Rex and Amaya at this point. He glanced around a lot. Cameras... everywhere? Oh man, if he hadn't been insane earlier... he couldn't see any cameras for sure, and didn't want to feel more like an idiot searching for them, so he followed Rex.

Awen looked pissed. He didn't say anything to her, fearing the possibility of a vicious temper. Her note saddened Rex, however. Zach's mind raced. What could she be doing?

Amaya Vaughan
"A-!" The girl smile but then it faded just as quick when Awen simply handed something to Rex and turned back around. "-wen..." She stared in shock, wanting to go after her and see what was wrong. Green eyes glanced at the note handed to Rex... she knew what the manta was going to do. Amaya watched as Awen stormed off. Stay safe, Awen... Slowly she followed the two into Rex's duplex, a strange swaying swagger in her step due to her tail.

Rex Vadnais
He walked into his duplex with his back turned to the others before they could say anything else, wiping the last tears from his eyes. "Just make yourselves at home!" Rex called over his shoulder.

He headed straight into the bathroom, but became distracted. Something else looked at him from the mirror in the bathroom. He leaned over the sink, looking closer at the changed reflection. Those vicious canines were now his. The dark lines around his eyes? His. The newly formed beard and thicker chest hair? His. He looked at his hands below. The dark callouses created pads, it was hard for him to close his hand completely. And the blood that encrusted his fingertips stained the claws where his fingernails once were.

"Uhh.. Bandages!" Rex's Reflection got him distracted, but he opened the medicine cabinet and pulled out a few big band-aids, the neosporen, and a medical wipe, then came into the main room. "Ready?"

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach stood awkwardly near the door. One of the reasons he prided himself on not getting injured all the time was saving himself the pain of rubbing alcohol and other disinfectants. Cuts were categorized with shots as things he truly hated, though they were all unavoidable. He was a little glad he'd been so out of it when he'd been cut, or he would probably have yelled. He didn't want to embarass himself in front of these people.

"Hardly," he admitted. The hand did hurt a hell of a lot; he couldn't scratch at the cuts. He took a few more steps in, careful to avoid Amaya's tail as it moved around the floor.

Silently, Zach cursed disease in general, and held his hand out to Rex again to let him take care of it. He was the one with all the supplies. Please, please, please don't sting as bad as I think it will.

Amaya Vaughan
Amaya walked into the room, not as cautious of her tail as Zach was. She was still getting a hang of it anyway. Green eyes looked around the room, her large pink tongue flickering to take in scents and... emotions. Wow, Zach smelt very nervous.

"You okay?" She turned back to look at him, for once making eye contact.

Rex Vadnais
Zach looked scared out of his mind, but Rex just chuckled. If he'd lived through turning into a lion, then Zach would just have to live through a little sting. "Okay, might hurt a wee bit" He rubbed the disinfecting wipe gently a few times across the puncture holes. They bubbled slightly, but that was good. It meant it was working! "The worst is over, now..." He squeezed a little neosporen onto his finger and dadded the wounds fragilely, trying his hardest not to irritate them more. He only needed two band-aids to cover all four of the holes. With the applications of the last one he said, "All done." and smiled friendlily.

He blinked his emphasized eyes and sat down on the bed, "OW!" He was up faster than a rabbit on a hot greasy griddle in the middle of august. He sat on his tail. "Ahh, the tail.. got to get used to that. He slid his rump carefully onto the bed, his tail wagging minutely, difting side to side.

Zachary Bloodstone
He glanced over at Amaya. The tongue... ohhh. "I'm... surviving." Truthful enough.

He closed his eyes as Rex began disinfecting, though soon it became more of squinting to keep tears from coming out. The stinging was unbearable, hurting far worse than the actual cuts had - or so he kept thinking. He didn't really remember that moment as anything but a strange haze. "Ow-ow-ow, careful!" he hissed, gritting his teeth. When Rex had finished, he pulled his hand back, sliding it into his robe pocket while he waited out the fiery burning.

He watched as Rex leapt up after sitting. His tail... hurt? So the changes weren't just sudden and over. Even less to look forward to. Again, he failed to imagine himself in the same situation as Rex, helplessly changing into some kind of animal.

It was his last comfort.

Amaya Vaughan
The girl watched silently as Rex tended to Zach's wounds, but jumped once the exclaimation reached her ears. Her head darted over to him to make sure he was okay. She had never really had that problem... when she first got her tail it didn't curl underneath her... and now it was too big to even think about it. Without thinking it slid from side to side on the carpet, giving a light tap to one of the bedposts. Amaya winced, not liking the feeling that her tail was... that long.

Wait... Rex was in his boxers. Oh jeeze. She adverted her gaze from him quickly to look around the room. It was rude to stare.

... Why was she staring anyway?

Rex Vadnais
Rex's tail only hurt because it was still sore from the fresh changes and he'd just forgotten he had a tail now. It wouldn't hurt so bad in the future.

He was still holding Awen's note, but got up and set it on the nightstand and went back to the bed. He didn't give his nakedness a second thought, it was just his body. So what? Now giving his tail a bit more recognition, he laid back on the bed with his arms behind his neck and looked up at the ceiling, sighing.

Zachary Bloodstone
Zach looked around the duplex. It was oddly the same as his own. It reminded him, he needed to meet his neighbor downstairs. He hadn't seen any signs of life around that duplex.

"What are you going to do now, Rex?" He asked cautiously. The guy seemed to be contemplating something. "You're part of this island now..." Forever.

He really wanted to see the note, but it wasn't his to look at. Ah well. If he couldn't see the note, he'd just see if he was part of their circle of trust. Doubtful. Plus, the cameras and microphones were always watching.... This would be a great time for a code language, if that could be pulled off.

Amaya appeared to be uneasy too. What were they hiding?

Amaya Vaughan
Well, Rex seemed very... comfortable in his boxers. No big deal. Amaya went to scratch her head, but paused when her claws touched nothing but scales. A shudder went down her spike-covered spine and she dropped her hand again. Her head could itch for all she cared.

Green eyes looked from Zach back to Rex. There was the same sad look in her eyes and she looked at her large feet. Even though she didn't want to say it outloud... she knew Zach had a point.

Rex Vadnais
Rex sat in silence as the question seeped into his head. But the silence was eventually broke by, "Enjoy it." He sat up and looked a the ground, not bothering with their reactions. "If I can't change my future, then why not be happy with everything that I have...?" He sighed quietly, then looked up at Awen's crumpled note, "I mean, if you don't make the best of it, then you're just going to be living in misery for the rest of forever. And I don't know about you, but I don't want to be in agony for my whole life." It sounded sappy and optimistic, but he sincerely meant it. Rex wasn't one to lie, end of story.

As he sat up he saw Amaya look away quickly, chuckling quietly. "Comfortable?"

Zachary Bloodstone
He caught Amaya's eye as she looked, carefully noticing the sadness in her movements and expression, despite the heavily lizard features. Poor, poor girl. And transformed in such a short time...

Zach twitched at the words. He'd suspected the guy of an opinion like that. But maybe he'd been wrong originally. Rex had a good point...

"But that doesn't mean to give up." His eyes narrowed a little. "There's bound to be a reversal to this. To what happened to both of you. I mean, those doctors probably would take precautions against themselves getting a dose of their own medicine. And escape! We just have to keep... trying..."

He realized how much of an idiot he sounded like when he began to trail off. Amaya... she'd been here for seven months... and no one had escaped in that time. He shifted uncomfortably.

"Never mind. I don't know what I'm talking about." Rex was right; make the best of it. Why couldn't he?

Amaya Vaughan
Once again, the lizard girl probably would have blushed a little. "I'm alright." Though her toes were starting to hurt from standing on them. She wasn't sure if she should lower herself or not... if she did, it would probably look like she was falling. All five inches her feet had created.

She nodded once he was finished. "Thats how I thought about it... and I still do in a sense. It's just been... hard." Amaya fidgetted with her large fingers, a nervous habit she had developed while on the island.

"No, it's okay." She gave a tiny forced smile at Zach. "Just because no one has escaped doesn't mean it's impossible... it just takes time and a lot of thought." Her mouth opened, revealing sharp teeth before she started talking once more. "I'm glad Moreau picked me to come here instead of someone else. I don't have anything to loose. But others... they have a family. I just wish he would only take people like me." Amaya frowned again, shifting on her feet a little.

Rex Vadnais
Rex called her bluff, "No you aren't!" He said, grinning wickely at his girl, "Take a load off!" he patted the bed next to him, still blissfully unaware how awkward he was making them feel since he was just in his boxers. "Glad to know I'm not the only one with that philosophy."

Rex's smile turned solmn as Amaya spoke about her past. He remembered what Joliette said about her being adopted or something. But he didn't want to push it on her, she'd tell him when she was ready.

Rex yawned, the transformation had sure frazzled him from his sleep. He sure looked like a mess, but who cares about appearance. Alot of people? Ahh well.. "It's getting late.. er.. early? I dunno.. anway, I think I ought to shower and then get some breakfast..." He trailed off on the end.

Zachary Bloodstone
"Good idea," Zach nodded. He didn't really feel that comfortable here with the pair of them. "I'll just head back to my duplex and get back to sleep."

He quickly made for the door. Before he left, he turned around in the doorway. "Rex, Amaya?" he called. He wasn't sure if the lion-man would even look up. "I'll find us all a way off of this island. I don't care how long it takes."

And the clock starts now...

He left without another word, stumbling a few times. Maybe he was coming down with something. Oh well. He'd had a pretty hard fall not a while ago. Better to get some sleep in before morning really came.

Amaya Vaughan
Amaya smiled at him with a nod. Rex was probably still sore and hungry from the transformation. "Okay. Take care then... I'm in duplex 22 by the way. If you need me." It was more of an invitation to visit. She didn't get many and didn't leave her room very often anymore.

With a smile and a headbob to Zach as her left, she started to the door as well. "See ya Rex." She looked back at him with one of her rare genuine smiled and then her tail vanished through the doorframe.

Tentacle Troubles
Well, Zach was asking for it...

Zach shoved one of the cafeteria doors open and went inside. No one else seemed to be in the room. Wonderful. Even though he was fully aware that someone was watching him through a camera or whatnot, he preferred it only slightly more to being in the presence of the human and animal hybrids that populated the island. He'd admit it, he hated them. Not the people, but the animals they were becoming. He could hardly look at changed islanders for long without something deep down inside of him loudly acknowledging that they weren't human any longer.

He grabbed a tray and with minor difficulty got a tuna sandwich, and a glass of water. There were plenty of tables to choose from - he picked one off to the far side of the room and sat down there.

Billy had taken a long walk after leaving Antony's, An unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth. He'd have to find matches. Just as well, he was running low on smokes anyway. He wondered how the epople on the island got themselves things. As the afternoon grew on, he grew hungry again, silently wandering into the cafeteria. The breaze that had picked up talked him into pulling his shirt back on, tentacles tucked away and warm between the fabric and his body. As always, his timing seemed good, the cafeteria empty save for a small man off to the side.

Zach looked up to see a newcomer enter the room. He didn't recognize them. They seemed to be normal, other than... something... going on with their hands and their arms, which he hoped were some kind of long gloves. It wasn't likely.

After taking a sip of water, he looked back again. Maybe the other guy wouldn't want to talk.

As he stood by the sushi bar, he allowed a tentacle to slide out from under his shirt, picking up a piece of fish to shove it into his mouth as he continued to serve himself up, turning to find himself a table as he tucked it away again.

The normality in the room died right there and then. Zach did a double take before he spat the water out reflexively over his table. Genuinely horrified, he looked back again to gape as the purplish limb disappeared into the man's shirt . Was that a tentacle!?

He quickly set his cup down and grabbed his napkin to mop up the water. If the other guy hadn't noticed him before, he must have heard that. He tried to sink a little lower in his seat as he worked to clean his mess.

Billy turned to see the man scramble, but crossed the cafeteria to sit at the next table over, facing the opposite direction. He began to eat his fish, he didn't seem to notice the fact his tentacles seemed happy to slip out and help his hands, as though they had a mind of their own and mearly wanted to be a part of the process.

Zach continued to sneak glances at the other man before he weakly tossed the sopping wet napkin onto his tray. He watched, shocked and quickly disgusted, as tentacle after tentacle appeared and began to work along with the pair of similarly patterned arms and hands. Soon, he didn't have the stomach to finish his own fish lunch, and very nearly he couldn't hold it in either. He looked away quickly from the other man's actions and covered his eyes with his hands to keep from taking any more glances - his stomach wouldn't be able to handle looking at the bizarre display of limbs.

"I'm just seeing things," he mumbled under his breath. What a lie. Those wriggling tentacles looked pretty damn real to him, as well they should. Since when had he encountered a fake in the past two weeks?

Billy's grey eyes slipped over to the little one-armed man and back again as he gave a bitter chuckle.

He shut his eyes tighter against the sound of the small laugh. Well, at least the other man wasn't taking his new look as badly as some of the others that Zach had met. After a couple minutes of silence as he fought his nausea, he let his hand drop back to the table. Now that he'd been sufficiently shocked by the newcomer, he felt like a complete idiot for it.

Suddenly, Billy stood, carrying his tray over to sit down across of the other man, chewing loudly as he watched his face intently.

Zach nearly jumped. There wasn't a way to avoid looking at the guy now, so he tried looking across the table, a little put-off by the loud chewing. "H-hi..." he smiled nervously. The expression on the man's face was one of intense scrutiny, and it made Zach squirm.

"Y'think I'm a freak." It wasn't a question. He continued to chew, smiling ever so slightly as he watched Zach's face.

He kept his eyes level above the arms and tentacles, not wanting to get another look at them for a good while. He garbled out an answer reflexively, his fear rising a little as he was stared down. "Oh, no! it's just - I mean, you're... well you've got -" He gulped, the next word unavoidable. "Tentacles."

"Exactly," He gave a snicker, popping another bit of raw fish into his mouth, thankfully with his hands. He shifted in his seat, still looking the othe rman over, "Wha's yer name, lad?"

"Um, I'm just not used to all this..." Zach paused, visibly confused by the other man. He still didn't dare look down farther than the face. The guy's bizarre hands were enough to keep his weak stomach occupied, looking enough like tentacles themselves. With his one hand, he brushed some of his hair out of his face. "It's Zachary," he muttered.

"How long y'been here?"

"About two weeks..." He tapped his fingers on the tabletop, eyes darting between the man and the door, which seemed awfully far away now. "W-what about you? You've got a name too, right?"

"William," He said flatly, "Billy. How'd y'... y'know..." He nodded towards Zach's arm, a tentacle unknowingly lifting to pop another piece of sushi away.

Zach recognized the name vaguely. This guy must've broken Joli's camera - he could see why, what with all those extra limbs. And speaking of limbs... "Oh, this?" He didn't have to follow the man's gaze, instead he simply shrugged with his left side. He did feel a little queasy still, the tentacle that the man used was not helping him. Therefore, no need to go into detail. He'd only get himself sick enough to throw up. "A cave accident..."

"So it wasn'... y'know... *them*?" Billy cleared his throat, raising an eyebrow.

It took Zach a good minute to figure out who Billy was talking about. He would have laughed if the subject hadn't been such a serious one. "Oh! Oh, no. Thankfully, no." He smiled crookedly, though there was still a pallor to his face which betrayed it. "I can see why you asked though. I guess it wouldn't be a big surprise if they started removing limbs or organs from us..."

He cleared his throat, sitting back again to hide his blush, "Aye, well. I have 'em in excess now, i s'pose. I'd give y'one if'n I coul'." He gave a nervious, bitter laugh.

He cast a glance around the room, knowing the cameras were watching. He wondered if this kind of conversation was going to give them ideas. It was too late now to take back anything said. It wasn't like they hadn't already chosen some kind of animal for him already - he, like Avery, was now stuck waiting with dread. Escape was so unlikely at this point that it had ceased to be a realistic option.

Zach wasn't surprised that Billy was embarassed about his tentacle situation. While there was likely nothing wrong with having them, they were just a sight that took a very long time to be used to. Zach's mindset was still one that could function better in a world without looking at half-human monsters face-to-face. His smile faded quickly at the joke offer. "I'd pass..."

He focused back at the table, still carefully looking above the area where the tentacles were moving about casually. He'd noticed something odd about the question now that he'd given it more careful thought. "Say, did they do something to you? Besides... you know..." He waved his hand toward Billy's mess of arms.

Billy didn't answer, his eyes narrowed and lips persed together as he leaned his chair back on two legs to rock contemplatively. "Y'know, jes' a couple days ago, I wasn' a freak." He was sitting across from strangers, trying to tug their silly costumes off. He swore if anyone else grabbed his fecking tentacles, he'd remove their face through a gentle gradation against the gravel drive.

Zach tilted his head to the side a little. He couldn't disagree with the term, though it was a pretty offensive way to put everyone's predicament. It seemed like this guy was very new, perhaps he'd even come here even more recently than Zach had. He asked what seemed to have an obvious answer. "Did they... trick you into coming here?"

"Y'know.... I don't even know!" He gave a laugh, scratching teh side of his beard as he glanced up at the ceiling. "It wasn' wha' they advertized, I'll tell y'tha'."

That's an odd answer, he thought to himself. He put his elbow onto the table and cradled the right side of his face in his hand. He shrugged a little as he spoke. "If it's any consolation, I'm sorry to see you've... changed." He took a moment before asking directly a question he'd had on his mind since he'd seen Rex transform. "Was it painful?"

Billy's eyes flickered, "Ye'll know soon enough, won'cha?"

That was as close to an answer as Zach supposed he'd ever get from another person. He couldn't deny it was a touchy subject. He looked away from Billy, at a loss for a response. With a grimace, he idly guessed at the creature the doctors had sentenced him to becoming. "Well, uh... you're becoming a... a squid?"

"Squid?" Billy glanced over with furrowed eyebrows, "I was thinkin' octopus."

"Octopus, right..." His voice wavered a little. With every strange animal he heard about, the possibilites for himself seemed to get more grosteque. Zach turned back, willing himself to survey whichever tentacles were flailing about at the moment to count them again. He looked away quickly enough. He still felt sick just looking at them for longer than an instant. "Then you have... f-four tentacles?"

"Wha's th'difference, then? B'tween a squid an' octopus? I mean... I s'pose it *coul* be squid..." Billy hadn't thought about it. In fact, this was really the first time he had honestly thought about it at all. He didn't know why he was comfortable and calm about it with this man... maybe it was his seemingly nervious nature. He could at least get a reaction out of it. He lifted his hands to idly undo the buttons of his shirt befor opening it to reviel the strange appendages, including his wounded tentacle in a sling, "You tell me wha' y'think. Yer guess is as good as mine."

"Well..." Zach immediately called up the trivial difference between animals. Science was familiar to him, even if it was biology. "Octopi have eight... tentacles, and I think squid have-"

The apparent randomness of Billy's latest action threw Zach from his thoughts. He stopped, practically biting his tongue. What the hell was Billy doing? But, as he stared, incredulous, he noticed the skin of other man's torso where it turned from a human pink to an alien rubbery purple. Those sucker-covered tentacles came right out of his chest!

Zach's first action was to gape in horror. The second was to reflexively rid himself of what little food he'd eaten that day on the cafeteria floor.

Billy watched him, a wicked grin on his face, "Monstrous, aint it?" It was unclear by his expression what his feelings were about Zach's reaction. It appeared to be amusement, but there was something else underneith, trying to break through that he turned into a laugh.

He was extremely shaky as he looked back up, embarassment flushing his otherwise pale face. Billy was unreadable, but from his laughter and taunting it seemed he was enjoying himself immensely. Now that Zach had gotten the disgust out of his system, literally, he could stand to look at the tentacles a bit more. With a shaking hand, he motioned to the tentacle in a sling. He was unable to make a coherent sound at first, but managed some basic words once he regained his voice. "You're hurt..."

"Apparently yer no' th'only one who thinks I"m a monster," Billy leaned in, deliberatly letting his tentacles flail all they wanted.

"You're- you're not a monster," Zach lied, hurriedly. He began to pull back as Billy moved forward. He shut his eyes to avoid looking at the waving tentacles any longer.

"You're just..." How was he going to put it... That Billy was a freak? That he was was perhaps the most disturbing thing Zach had seen on this island so far? There was no nice, polite way to say what he thought. Maybe it'd be best to finally get it out in the open. He opened his eyes again and stared down the man across the table, his expression not angry but sad. He waved his hand in an open gesture, though it seemed incomplete without a left hand as well. "You're right. You're right! I can't stand this place. I can't even stand looking at some of you... you changed people."

He drew a shaky breath before continuing, though at this point he was looking down at the table, rather than making eye contact with the other man's grey eyes. "Especially you, Billy."

That seemed to make Billy's grin broaden even more as he moved to sit on the table, leaning in, one of his lower tentacles poking at Zach's lunch curiously, "Is tha' so?"

"Y-y-yeah..." Zach murmured. He looked up as the man sat down on the table. He began to feel anxiousness creep through him. He was amazed Billy was still... happy. If one could call it that. He was having a sinking suspicion that the grin plastered on the other man's face had nothing to do with having four extra limbs. Timidly, Zach pushed his tray toward Billy and his adventurous tentacle. The decrease in distance between the two of them made Zach a little twitchy. "Are you... looking for something?" he asked stupidly.

Billy slipped off the table, moving to the side to lean over Zach like a school-lunchtime bully, his tentacles wrything in his bottled frustration, but his face was still oddly calm, "I'm a freak. Say it."

Zach held onto the side of his chair as he regarded Billy with sudden confusion. He looked up, wincing a little at the tentacles. His wide-eyed look was one of fear. A nervous giggle mixed itself with his words. "W-what are you talking about? Y-you're not a... a freak."

"Yer face says otherwise!"

He jerked backward in his chair. His immediate thought was to run, but there wasn't anywhere to go. All he could do was stare back and desperately find something, anything to say. The whole setup seemed oddly familiar, in a bad way. "No... no... It's just that... " It's just that I'm trying not to get pummeled again like I was in high school.

Billy grabbed the man's shirt, pulling him closer, the tentacles wrything and twisting, twitching as he ran the tip of one along Zach's face, "SAY IT," He snarled.

Zach turned his head away to the side as Billy jerked him forward. His eyes were roving wildly as he tried to think with a mind clouded by fear. He felt the tentacle slide across his face and gasped audibly. An open palm blindly shot out to push Billy away. He continued to face the wall, though his eyes flickered at the corner of his visiion between the other man and tentacle. He felt an itchiness in his eyes. "Fine! You're a freak! You're a freak!"

"A BLOODY TENTACLED MONSTER RAPIST!!" He bloowed, Zach's attempt to shove him off not working as Billy's top, unwounded tentacle slip around his neck, although not tightly, "SAY IT!"

"P-please don't...!" Zach's neck stiffened in response to the loose noose about his neck. He was shaking and terrified. He breathed sharply for a couple seconds. His hand went up to grapple with the tentacle, though he kept pulling his fingers away almost as soon as they touched the rubbery skin of the tentacle. The itch in his eyes had given way to actual tears which gathered at the edge of his sight. What a way to go. He was hoarse as he failed to fully repeat Billy's self-description. "You're... a... a bloody tentacled... m-monster... r.."

"I DISGUST YE!" Billy screamed in his face, wrenching him upward out of his seat.

"Stop it!" Wild with desperation, Zach abandoned the tentacle and latched his hand onto the arm Billy was hoisting him with. He tried to dig his fingers into the sucker-less side, though his grip was weak. His fingers wouldn't hold onto the octopus skin any better this time. He scrambled to get onto his feet to avoid being choked by the shirt collar. He turned to stare Billy in the face again. His brown eyes couldn't stay focused on anything for long. Still shaking considerably, he tried to pull his way away from the octopus man's grip. "Leave me alone, you... you slimy FREAK!" he howled, barely aware of what he said.

Billy's fist swung around to connect with Zach's jaw befor he let go, stepping back, his face dripping with rage, "Feck off!! Who asked you??" He snarled, "Y'don' have any idea wha' it's li' being me!!"

The punch immediately snapped his head to the side. He sobbed loudly, though his cry of terror was soon cut off by the pain that had encompassed half his mouth. Zach slumped to the ground, immediately cradling his jaw in his right hand. There was a steady trickle of dark red blood running from the side of his mouth down to his chin. He rocked back and forth a little on the ground, his face frozen with his mouth half-open. He didn't dare move it for fear of making the bruising worse, but Billy's snap made him speak anyhow, despite the burning twinge that ran along the side of his face. He looked up at the tentacled man who towered above him, and between the fingers he attempted to retort. "Y-you're the one who-- owww!"

Billy spat at his feet, "Y'make me sick." That said, he turned on his heal to storm towards the door.

Zach looked back down at the floor again, shaking more than ever, feeling once more like a complete and total idiot. He closed his eyes when he heard the man spit. His breathing was ragged but quiet, and all he could think about was the steady bleeding and pain of the punch. It wasn't until he heard the door slam behind Billy that he made another sound.

With his lone hand still clutching his injured jaw, he slowly shook his head and laughed silently. Tears streaked his face, and between the laughs he was racked by pained hisses. In his mind, Valentine seemed to be right. The island was a madhouse. But was he mad?

Sabin was positively giddy. He doublechecked Zachary's records on the system .. twice. He was responding completely normally to the preparatory injection, and was fully prepared for the second injection. Sabin had been very tempted to give him his second injection at the two-week mark, which was the point where many of the initial subjects had gone through their first change.... but due to some testing, it seemed that those given the injection at that point experienced a more traumatic change, and could possibly put them at risk for complications later. As much as Sabin wanted to see the results... he wasn't willing to risk his project, his project - even if he was excited.

But no more waiting. Tonight he would see the results - see how his dragon serum expressed. At least in the first transformation. A few of the labtechs had doubted the possibility... but he would show.... oh who was he kidding? They likely didn't care. But he did.

After the injection was taken care of, Sabin sat at the cameras, eyes glued to the screen with a manic grin.

****

The dreams come to Zach that night.... confusing and muddled, and yet poignantly real. His mind doesnt' seem to notice as things shift from one scene to another, one setting melds into the next.

The pain works itself into the dream long before Zach wakes up. A headanche... itching. Then.... with each breath that seems strained, the room seems warmer, burning... his skin mostly so, itching... burning... driving you crazy! As you itch your arms skin flakes off under your lengthening nails, that are sharpening to claws... being mirrored on your feet as well. At first you think that your arm is bleeding - and it is - but most of the red that you unsurface is hard, smooth... scales. But that's only the begining.

Your feet hurt, and grow, lengthen a little bit - your big toe as well, seeming to separate a bit from the rest of the toes, becoming more flexible.

There is then a severe pain at the base of your spine as, like many of the islanders you've seen sporting tails, your own begins to grow. And like many of the expressions you've seen of the changing islanders... it is NOT pleasant. Nor brief. A full two feet of tail pushes itself out from the base of your spine, covered in slick, bright red scales that look like the ones on our arms.

All the while your teeth and jaw hurts, your canines enlarging massively. Then the headache... the pounding... splitting headache. Horns begin to grow - not small horns like Stewart's or Lauren's who have only begin to grow, but foot-long spires of bone surge out of your skull.

As you scream in pain, your eyes burn, the pigments shifting to a feral, slitted yellow.

By the end of it, you're left very, very different. And you could swear - (though perhaps it's just the phantom limb syndrome - which seems to be acting up now more than usual), that your nub of a severed arm is more tender.
