Blood Status: Mixedblood (nearly pure) - Always insists that she is a pureblood, but is unwilling to talk about her family history.

Wand Hand: Right. PERSONALITY General: At first glance, Bryn is just a bit of a brat. Snotty, snooty, and mouthy, she doesn't hesitate to tell it like it is or to voice her opinion. Bryn is a very opinionated young girl as well, so this can happen quite often. However, this doesn't mean that her opinions are always correct. But don't tell her this; she is as stubborn as the most stubborn mule, and it only gets worse if she knows that she is in the wrong. She can get very angry and very defensive, and may even lash out verbally at her opponent. Bryn isn't the best at remaining calm in any situation, and can be very rash or impulsive, but this is especially so in arguments. Thankfully, she can usually handle her magic pretty well in terms of her emotions.
For an eleven-year-old, Bryn can be very manipulative. She analyzes people and figures out the correct way to behave around them, and can be very underhanded and sneaky when it comes to getting what she wants. If she's got her eye set on something, it's only a matter of time before she gets it in one way or another. If someone or something gets in her way, she will shove them aside or do whatever is needed, as long as it's not too much work. She's only eleven years old, after all, and she has better things to do than tiptoe around someone to get what she wants! If she's particularly impatient, she might even simply take what she wants. Clearly, Bryn can be abrasive and selfish, even greedy at times. She deserves the best, after all!
However, Bryn also has some deep-seated issues concerning her blood status. For generations, her family was known as one of the most powerful pureblood families in the United Kingdom. But it is tainted by one lone halfblood, who carried on the Dempsey line and subsequently polluted it. By now the line is nearly pure again, but Bryn is constantly reminded of her "impurity" whenever she returns home; it is only a matter of time before one of her older relatives begins to grumble about an ancestor's mistakes. She sees various pureblooded students around the school and attempts to become close to them, if only to boost her own reputation. She does want friends, but unfortunately does not recognize yet that people will like her if she is simply herself (though that may not be entirely realistic, either).
Bryn Dempsey is not all bad, however. She is incredibly determined and strong-willed for one so young, and is loyal to those she deems worthy or manages to get close to. She will not hesitate to defend a friend, and if someone is persistent enough in their assertions that blood status does not matter, Bryn may push aside her prejudices and become friends with just about anyone. She does appreciate friends that are easy to control, but does not want to associate with those who are complete doormats. Her standards are messed up and rather confusing, but hopefully she will figure them out and find herself soon.
Habits: Bryn has a hard time sitting completely still, if only because her mind is always working. She often bounces a leg or taps a finger, or even twirls her pen while studying, and constantly seems to shift her weight when standing.
Hobbies: Reading, competition, and exploring the grounds (possibly even when she is supposed to be in her dormitory).
Likes: Succeeding, being right, sleeping in late, putting in the minimum amount of work needed to succeed, and outsmarting others.
Dislikes: Being wrong, excessive noise, most of her extended family, insects, and snakes.

Extended Family:
Bryn's family is too expansive to list here, but it has primarily remained pure in blood. There was an indiscretion somewhere previous in the line, thus tainting the blood (because they then had numerous children), but it is largely ignored and continued adherence to 'pureblood-only' marriages has nearly purified the family line again.
Relationship with Family:
Bryn is fairly close with her parents, especially her father. She looks up to him, because he is a strong man with strong morals and beliefs, including that one stray halfblood in the family line makes no difference. She may be a bit grateful to her mother for adding more magical blood, and may even be a bit jealous of her. Unfortunately, the family system is not matrilineal. Bryn's relationship with her brother is a bit strained; he's quite the little annoyance. She usually ignores him, but can often get into little fights with him when they're forced to be together. Deep, deep down, however, she loves him. He's family, after all.
HISTORY
General History:
Bryn and her younger brother grew up in one of the various Dempsey family estates across Ireland and the eastern region of the United Kingdom. Bryn's particular home was in Dublin, Ireland, right along the coast. While the weather was often temperamental, the scenery was beautiful and perfect for the girl to grow up in. She regularly explored the city and the surrounding area whenever possible, but may have consequentially put off her schoolwork to do so. She had few friends when she was younger, and still doesn't have many, but believe it or not she has become more tolerant in the past few years. It seems that she has always wanted to do things her own way and on her own time, and other people generally slow her down.
A letter from Hogwarts was expected since Bryn was little, and when it finally came it was celebrated as if she had gotten a very prestigious award. Bryn had been exhibiting magical skill for some time before then and while she was nothing to be afraid of, her parents insisted that she was remarkably proficient already. While she was a bit nervous about going off on her own, she was also very excited to go to Hogwarts, eagerly purchasing all that she needed and more from Diagon Alley, and immediately fitting in with many of her Slytherin classmates. She has flourished at Hogwarts so far according to the many letters that she writes home to her parents, and seems more than happy to return in subsequent years. She is determined to become the strongest witch she can.

MISCELLANEOUS
The Sorting:
The crowd of first-years was almost oppressive as they all pressed as far toward the front of the Great Hall as possible, chatting among themselves about which houses were best and which they were sure to be placed in. Bryn knew that she would likely be placed in Slytherin, and she wanted to carry on the legacy, but she also knew that the Sorting Hat could be fickle and see things that even the student couldn't. Though her name was the fourth letter in the alphabet, there were an unusual number of children with names A through C this year and she had to wait quite some time to be sorted. In actuality it was only around ten minutes, but it felt like a lifetime!
When her name was finally called and she made her way up to the tall, rickety stool to be sorted, Bryn couldn't hide the confident grin on her face. She was being sorted in a Hogwarts house, she would be a real witch soon! The hat sat on her head for all of one minute before shouting, "Slytherin!" and being removed with a flourish. The table and emerald and silver erupted in cheers like always, welcoming yet another into their midst. Bryn strutted her way down the few steps and over to the end of the table, seating herself beside a particularly greasy-looking boy with crooked teeth. He greeted her excitedly, and she was at least civil in her returned greeting, but she largely ignored him for the rest of the meal. She was already planning what she would do with her new space in the dormitory.
Boggart:
The creature was shifting, undulating as it recovered from the last student's spell and Bryn stepped up before it, taking in a deep breath. She could do this. All she had to do was raise her wand, think of something funny, and cast the spell. It would be over quickly and no questions would be asked.
But she wasn't prepared for the tapestry to be revealed, to slowly weave itself together from the bottom up. It slowly revealed generation after generation of Dempsey family members, until it was getting dangerously close to the offender who had polluted the line so long ago. The burn marks were beginning to appear, and as the blackness faded and began to show a face, Bryn panicked. "Riddikulus!!" She cried, whipping her hand out and hoping that it would work. With another flourish, the tapestry flapped in the wind and morphed into a very large, very polka-dotted pair of frilly bloomers hanging on a drying line in the wind. She laughed among the rest of her classmates, expertly hiding her panic and trying to still her fluttering heart as she made her way to the back of the crowd. That had been entirely too close for comfort.
Mirror of Erised:
The room was dark and rather cold as Bryn stood there, clutching her robes tighter around her small body. The mirror was beautiful, golden and ornate, but the slight age and wear on its surface was endearing as well. It gave it a sense of wisdom, she thought, a sense of...regalia. As she stepped closer, peering into the foggy glass, a shape began to clear and she saw a tall, beautiful woman standing there. But where was she? And then it dawned on her: this woman was her!
The blond reflection smirked at her confidently, tossing her hair over her shoulder and holding up her glowing wand. Medals adorned her neck and her robes were the most beautiful that Bryn had ever seen. Clearly this woman was strong, powerful. Bryn wanted that more than anything. Strength and power allowed you to do whatever you wanted; no one could stand in your way! With a bright grin, she whirled on her heel and ran from the room. If she was going to succeed, she needed to get to work!
EXTRA CREDIT
Patronus:
A crane, thought to be one of the most elegant animals. Bryn associates elegance with purebloods, and is reminded of her mother's graceful posture whenever she sees a crane.
Greatest Treasure:
Her mother gave her a locket before she left for school, an heirloom from her side of the family. Bryn treasures it because it is associated with a 'perfect' family, one to be admired. She doesn't wear it often, for fear of losing it, but looks at it every night.
Manner of Dress:
Refined and professional, but not wholly feminine. When not in her school uniform, Bryn still wears a lot of green. She's proud of being a Slytherin and carrying on the family pattern. Her hair was originally a bright platinum blonde, but she died most of it on a whim. She's not exactly loving it, but she really liked the color green and couldn't resist (not when a cute boy said he could help her with the spell!). She doesn't hate it, but she's getting a little tired of it already. Unfortunately she cannot find the boy to reverse the spell, and doesn't know how to perform it herself.
Favorite Class:
Transfiguration. She's always been attracted to the slight deception of it, that little element of intrigue.
Worst Class:
History of Magic. While, yes, learning from the past is helpful, Bryn has never been good with dates and names. Certain events will garner more interest than others, but in general the class receives a frown and a very bored look from the Slytherin girl.
