Avari found herself in slight awe at the woodland they'd arrived in. It looked so undisturbed, so inviting. Something she could not have imagined from the small glimpse she had been given through him. Seeing the land with her own eyes almost left her breathless. Ears on a swivel atop her head, Avari found herself listening to every comforting sound that rang out around them as the moved silently through. Trying to familiarize herself with the land around her as quickly as she could so she'd be able to detect when something intruded on what she was to call her new home. Eyes raising to Varian's form when he stopped ahead of her, the small mare moved around to his side, her eyes glancing at the wall ahead of her, tracing it up to the top branch as he announced they'd found what they had traveled for.
Following his lead, she parted the leaves gently with her horn, walking softly into the hidden and beautiful area. Turning around in the middle she swept her gaze around the area, her ears ever listening to the gods voice explaining the safety she'd be granted in this area. Smile brightening she turned her eyes to him when his wing gently touched her cheek, calling her full attention to him. "I'm at a loss of words." She nickered sweetly, stepping toward him to reach up and nuzzle his cheek lovingly, her heart soaring as she lowered her head gazing up at him with joy. "It's hard to believe a perfect place could exist so nearby humans, I would not have never been able to even imagine." Shaking her head she laughed softly. "I guess it really would have been the last place I looked."
Taking a step back, Avari turned her head towards the way they'd come in, the sounds of the forest catching her attention once more. She would have never imagined the prior night she'd be standing here, and she found herself wondering back to the glade she'd left. Had the six already visited the quiet area? Shaking her mane out she cleared the thought from her mind. The band of horses had been something that hadn't crossed her mind before she experienced what they'd done through him, she wouldn't allow them a place in her thoughts now either. "Will you be staying for a little Varian? Or does your Duty to the Greater Herd already call you?" Avari questioned her eyes returning to him.

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Varian smiled down at Avari, gaze searching her features, incredibly touched by how much she appreciated the Wayward Pine. He closed his eyes as the sweet, gentle mare nuzzled the line of his jaw, a small smile gracing his features. He was so . . . so happy around her. He felt a small pang of sorrow in his chest, knowing that his father had never allowed himself to get close to anyone -- mare or stallion -- for this very reason. He needed to speak to Avari, so she would know the dangers that came with her even being near him. He let out a soft sigh, one filled with bitter regret.
He could tell from how she acted, how she looked at him, that the mare had fallen for him, as he had for her. His heart soared every time she smiled at him, and he felt as if he were drinking from the very Fountain of Life when she laughed. That pure, clear sound meant more to him than anything else. And with what he had to tell her, there was a good chance he might never hear it again. Swallowing, the God took a step back from her before folding himself gracefully, laying down beneath the shelter of the Wayward Pine's drooping boughs. He swept a wing before him, wordlessly requesting that Avari do the same. When she complied, her blue eyes searching his in question, he let out a breath he hadn't known he'd been holding.
"Avari, Little Sparrow, there is something we must speak of. For the moment, the Greater Herd is safe, as are the King and his Subjects. That responsibility shall hold until the morrow. For now, we have the remainder of the day and this night before us, so that we may spend time with one another. But I need to be upfront with you, need to be honest, so that you might understand the dangers that are associated with being around me." The antlered stallion clenched his teeth, elongated ears flattening against his broad skull.
"I know -- or at least I hope -- that you feel the same way about me as I do for you. There's . . . there is nothing I wouldn't do for you, Avari. I would move mountains, I would even give up my spirit's immortality so that I might live the rest of my days with you by my side." He searched her gaze, tipping his head down to blow a soft huff of hair behind her ear, stirring the feathers in her mane. "Because I lo-" He cut himself off, a frown marring his features. No, he would never lie to this mare, not even in this. "Because I love you, Avari, there is a very good chance that if the Six and the Dark Herd find out, once I begin to patrol and move against them, that they will use you to hurt me." His eyelashes fluttered as he blocked out the world, feeling sorrow rise in his chest.
"Avari, I could not live with myself if I let you stand by my side, not knowing the very real -- and very scary -- dangers that come with being the one who I love." He met her eyes for a moment before averting his gaze. "I couldn't --" He felt a sting as tears kissed the corners of his eyes. He closed them as the tears fell, leaving wet tracks down his jaw. "Sparrow, I couldn't live if something happened to you because of me. Anything, anything at all that hurt you, -- mentally, physically, emotionally -- I wouldn't be able to stand it. I would be so . . . so angry, so sickened with myself that I had allowed it to happen."
Azure eyes were wells of sadness and bitterness. "Earlier today, when that Turned ambushed us . . . the Rage of the Gods came over me for threatening something I cherished. If my antlers were broken off, if my hooves had been filed down to mere stubs, if my teeth had been pulled from my skull, if I became emaciated and wasted, nothing but bones and skin, I would have still torn that Azrein apart for the pain he might have caused you. I would've killed him, even knowing that I would die in the fight, but make no mistake; he would have been dead." Cold anger laced the stallion's words, his face becoming a mask of icy rage. He snorted, nostrils flaring, and gave his head a shake, bells chiming softly.
"Avari, I will do all I can -- everything in my power -- to protect you and keep you safe. But there will be times when I am not around, while I'm on patrol or on a mission for the King. I will find another Azrein if you cannot bear the thought of my Chosen watching over you, but someone will protect you if you desire while I am not able." He took a deep breath and wrapped his wings around her, enfolding her small form within completely. "But I do not want you standing beside me with your eyes blindfolded. You have a right to know the danger, and I will never keep anything from you, Little Sparrow. I . . . I love you so much that it scares me, sweet one. I want nothing more than to make you happy, to protect you, to keep you safe. But because of your association with me, you will be exposed to dangers that you will never have to face if you choose to walk away from me."
Varian nuzzled her nose before pulling away entirely, though he stayed near enough that she could feel his breath on her ears. Azure eyes held her gaze as he spoke his next words. "The choice is yours, sweet one. Whatever you decide, know that I will not take offense to it, and know that no matter your decision, I will still do everything I can to keep you safe from harm. Choose, Little Sparrow."

Eyes turned up at him in question from her spot beside the stallion, Avari's ears stood forward and attentive to his words, her mind wondering what he would have to say that he hadn't already. Though as he spoke she began to feel a creep of anxiety coil like a poisonous snake in her chest. Unsure if it was his tone of voice, or the the tense atmosphere that began to drape over them, the mare tried to shake her anxiety and clear her mind hoping to receive his words as openly as she could. But at the mention of danger a flicker of fear crossed her gaze, her ears turning away from him slightly. A part of her didn't seem to believe his words, having only felt the protective presence he'd supplied her their entire trip, but after the run in with that Azrein earlier she found herself taking these foolish words to heart. Dropping her eyes from him when he leaned down ruffling her hair lightly with his breath, her ears fully flattening under it's current, hearing the sweet words with a confused mind. The mare wanted to be elated at his confession, to tell him he was correct in his assumptions, but the rest of his sentence kept the feeling far from her heart. Instead nurturing the bud of fear took grip and she turned her head not wanting to hear these words of danger anymore, but listening all the same.
She desperately the need to cut him off. To keep herself in the dark wanting only to keep joy between them, and never wanting to have to associate him with a reason for her to feel terror. Letting out a shaky breath she felt her eyes flick up at him when the word love rolled off his tongue once again, calling her attention as she caught his own eyes, and keeping hers searching his face even after he'd turned away. "Varian.." She started quietly, pausing when she spied the glint of a tear roll through the short fur on his cheek. Heart twisting in shared sadness, Avari longed to comfort him, to leave the talk of dangers behind them, left to disappear in the back of their minds, but the tone of his voice told her how very real this warning was. He promised to protect her, yet he was also the danger. Unsure of what to think she could only well in the confusion of her mind, as his words raced through keeping tempo with her beating heart.
Holding her tongue, the young unicorn shuddered when he mentioned the Turned, the image of his crazed eyes flashing through her mind. Closing her eyes tightly as he described awful things he would fight through for her, each image turned up fear and pain as the thought of that ever happening to him just to protect her. She would never ask someone to do that, to run meant a chance at life, so why would he ever turn his antlers at another just for her. Feeling his wing fold over her protectively, Avari opened her eyes the tip of her tail flicking anxiously in it's position curled around her side. A breath of warmth stirring in her heart amidst the horrible feeling that consumed her at the moment. Leaning into his nuzzle, she shook her head gently as she was told to choose. "Great Varian, what do you expect me to do." She began, her eyes searching his once more as a gentle breath left her. "You say such sweet things mixed continuously with danger and fear for that Dark herd." Voice snapping with disdain at the mention of the ones who could cause a moment of happiness to be filled with such dread.
"I wish to trust you completely. I desperately do, but the thought of you lying cold on the ground just because of one of them fills me with more terror then man does. You make me infinitely happier then I've ever been, I wish I could say with love in my heart I'd stand with you through this all but I.." Pausing she tried to sort out her thoughts, unsure what to say, but what? She would rather die on her own then live on with the guilt that she had caused the one who she loved to die, to be forever consumed by the earth below. "..I'm afraid Varian." Letting those few words settle for a moment she looked up at him, tears in her dark eyes. "I do love you, it surprises me to say it but I cannot deny that. I've never felt so strongly for another." Dropping her eyes from his, she turned her head into his chest, resting her cheek and horn along the side of his neck her breath stirring the long hair. "I don't doubt you have ability and drive to keep me safe.. I just need you to take into consideration how much it would pain me to see you leave this world and myself behind just because of threats on my being.."

♞x x x xL o r dxxV a r i a nx x x x♞ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Varian watched his delicate mare as she spoke of her fears, her worries. Blue eyes held her own until she dipped her head, resting her cheek and horn along his powerful, muscled neck. The stallion didn't move for fear she would pull away. He knew how hard this must be on her -- everything in her very soul must be telling her to stay away from danger, whether direct or through him -- and yet she didn't, for his sake.
The stallion nuzzled her neck for a moment, blue eyes sad. "I'm afraid too, Little Sparrow. You'd be a fool filled with hubris not to be. Yet I fight through my fear, so that I may protect those dear to me." He pulled back, sheltering her under a wing. "My intention is not to die, dear heart. I intend to fight on, every moment that I am still living, so that you and the King will be safe. I intend to cut down all those who stand in my way, and be sure that they will never rise up to oppose me again." His voice had taken on a powerful, menacing tone, leaving there no room for doubt of the sincerity of what he was saying. "I will not leave you alone in this world, Avari. I swear it on my Power, and on the Good Spirits. I shall remain beside you, keeping you safe, keeping fear at bay while I protect you."
The God exhaled, closing his eyes. "I will never leave you, little one."

Leaning into his nuzzle, the mare closed her eyes as she simply let his words wash over her. To fight through fear, the thought seemed so far fetched to her. How do you fight something that takes hold so firmly, crippling movement and thoughts at time. Letting out a quiet sigh, she shifted lightly when his wing tucked around her comfortably, almost as thought he was trying to protect and comfort her from her own thoughts as he spoke with such sincere and unfaltering words.
Leaning away from his neck to look up at his face, the mare caught his eyes as he mentioned never leaving her, protection. That word was the very essence of all this stallion stood for, and she couldn't believe she would be the one he promised to shelter and care for. Her heart swelled happily beneath the fear this relationship would bring in the future, a thought she could put off for another time. Here in the enclosure of trees Avari found herself able to deny the existence of horses like the six. At this moment it could just be her and Varian. Smiling when he closed his eyes, she leaned in to nuzzle his neck comfortingly.
"I fear I cannot doubt any of your words Varian. Under your watch it's easy to forget there is danger outside." Pulling back from her place at his neck she let out a soft laugh, trying to lighten the mood and the fear that gripped her body. "I will hold you to that promise, I don't want to be parted from you."((End? xD))
