Buttery Biscuit Face Help them, yeah? By doing what? If you want a laundry list- My GSA and I raised money to help refugees who identify as LGBT people pay immigration costs- we drummed up around $3k. We also host our county's Pride day to raise awareness including booths that explain the history of discrimination and current human rights violations for the LGBT global community. We host our annual Day of Silence and a Transgender day of Awareness to educate people and get the word out. We worked with a community member who wanted to have a halfway home for LGBT runaways and did a shoe drive for them- most of whom are on the streets because of violence and homophobia or transphobia. We're also hosting a Trans-panel in a couple months. Because of how much effort I put into all fo these projects personally the club wanted me to be president, but I decided I wanted to be VP instead and I made them revote. cat_xp There are lots of things we do- but like I said, any victory we have is made up of the victories that came before no matter how small- so minimizing it or ignoring a small problem just leaves the problem there, everything we do for equality helps.

Valid argument c:
As for equality, unfortunately equality doesn't work with a general consideration of all peoples. One person's liberties tend to bring about the imposition of another person's. It shouldn't be that way, by any means, but it often is.

For what reason would you need proof of someone's efforts to better the lives of others?
Isn't it enough just to accept their word?
And ultimately this is such an odd thing to make a stink about.

Yes, it is. What if some great person was doing all this, and no one noticed them and then some b***h comes along and tries to claim that they did all of it? It's important. What is?

Der Fluch des Pharao Valid argument c:
As for equality, unfortunately equality doesn't work with a general consideration of all peoples. One person's liberties tend to bring about the imposition of another person's. It shouldn't be that way, by any means, but it often is. I think that's less about what things really are and more about how people feel when it comes to protecting their privilege. Like- when you look at privilege structures, giving a black man equal access to services doesn't actually infringe on a white man's access itself, but that hasn't kept people with privilege from feeling threatened by the competition. So I think that people with privilege need to face and surrender some of that privilege as much as they need to grant access to others and accept that what they had wasn't earned by them in the first place. Buttery Biscuit Face That's all good but, is there any way you could prove this? I suppose I could post pics from some of our events- but it wouldn't change the point of what we're doing- because either way doing something, even this small thing- is more than nothing and when it comes to equal rigths, something is always better than nothing.

Wooo. Careful there, let's not call people names or insinuate things.
And frankly, no one should be doing LGBT progressive acts, or any selfless acts for that matter, and expect renown or something in return.

I very much agree! c:
In many ways that's the ideology of socialism and even communism (with the exception of the corruption).
People can be so selfish, however. Makes equality often seem like an impossibility. But nothing is impossible :3

I didn't really want to be noticed to begin with- you demanded to know what I did to help, so I told you. It doesn't change the fact that whatever else I do to help, I am also doing this. I don't like that kind fo spotlight- I like the "production" side of events, so I do a lot of the planning and stuff. I didn't want to be the president because I didn't want to be the face of the GSA. Buttery Biscuit Face Exactly, because you didn't do it smile It's a bad idea and unsound reasoning to say that because you didn't see proof, it didn't happen. cat_3nodding Der Fluch des Pharao And frankly, no one should be doing LGBT progressive acts, or any selfless acts for that matter, and expect renown or something in return.
Oh! We covered Ethical Egotism in my ethics class last week- if you want, I can post some stuff on it that I think is a pretty convincing argument as to why it isn't true.

Rolls off the tongue better than "Unkown Person".That's what I'm saying. It's bad enough that people are hailed as more than what they are (humans) if they do something good. It's even worse if someone steals someone elses success because the original person did not want to be a "hero" or whatever they call it.

I think I see communism and socialism more as economic movements- but I think you're talking more in terms of maybe an ethical movement, so it's a little confusing. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the economic (and thus political) movements drew ideas from the ethical movements?

Buttery Biscuit Face "Oh mommy, this person online, I was talking to him! He says he's fourteen but he didn't wanna show pictures or go on cam or anything, but it's best to just believe him. I'm going to meet him, see you later!" That's not the same thing because you're equating something that has a direct effect on someone's safety with something I did in my community to benefit others which still doesn't change the fact that any movement forward in an equal rights movement is still something and not nothing.

"Hey, I'm writing a book to raise awareness for the LGBT community, would you like to help?" (broke college student)"What's in it for me?" "Umm, you get 50% of the book sales" "How do I know that's true?" "Just believe what I say" The guy could get horribly ripped off or plagiarised or both.
