╚══════════════╝ Asten was surprised they went right to the music room and spent a few minutes looking around again, as she'd only skimmed it yesterday. Nothing was dusty, despite the fact no one used it, thanks to the staff. "I can play the violin," she told him, running her fingers longingly over a beautiful one. Why were they even here, if Gunji couldn't play? It made her curious, but the lure of the music was stronger than her curiosity for once. "I haven't played for a long time, so I'll have to practice to get up to snuff again first," Asten added. She was used to singing and playing at the same time, but after four years of disuse she knew her skills had dropped considerably and would take plenty of practice to get them back up to where she had been. That was a frustrating thought, but it also gave her something to look forward to, to work towards.
Thinking on what to sing, not minding the fact there wasn't any music to accompany her, Asten spent a few minutes looking at the violin. It was even in tune, something that made her smile. Maybe other people would have been shy, or expected the quiet shifter to be shy as well, asked to just start singing, but she wasn't at all. Picking a song that was a bit slow and sad, about lost lovers and the like, her voice quickly warmed into it and she enjoyed hearing herself hit the high notes and hold them once again.

Gunji smiled at Asten. "It doesn't matter if you can't play yet, I'm fine with it. You can come here and practice whenever you want. Sometimes some of the staff will use the music room. I never mind," Gunji said. He sat happily, bouncing on the couch a little as he waited for Asten. Gunji watched as she moved over to the violin. Maybe he could learn from her although Gunji knew now bad violins sounded if you didn't know how to play them. Gunji was sure he could make a instrument that didn't need much effort sound horrible.
When Asten began to sing, Gunji sat still and quietly watching her with wide eyes. He hadn't expected her to be this good but didn't mind. She was much better than Gunji, that was for sure. All he could really do was listen, making sure he didn't make any noise to disrupt Asten as she sang. Her voice was probably the most beautiful thing she'd ever heard and Gunji noticed a few of the house's workers stoop outside the music room to listen to Asten and Gunji let them. Everyone deserved to hear Asten's singing since it was so great. It seemed as if Asten was just getting more perfect by the second. First Gunji had woken up to find that she was a beautiful white swan and now he'd found that she had a lot more talent then Gunji had imaged someone could have.

╚══════════════╝ While she wasn't nervous, exactly, she hadn't expected Gunji to just sit there and watch her. Seeing the hyperactive man so still made Asten relieved when the song was over, feeling a bit awkward. Clearing her throat, she felt her cheeks turn red, but clasped her hands behind her back. She wasn't aware there were workers outside the door, which would have only made the embarrassment worse. Four years of no audience had made her more self-conscious than she'd thought. "Sorry I'm rusty," she finally said, not even fishing for compliments. Listening to herself, she'd thought she was able to do a lot better and wanted to, if Gunji enjoyed it so much. "I need more practice again. But did you like it?" she added with a small smile.
Stepping away from the violin, the swan sat down next to Gunji. She figured he'd want to go spend the day at the zoo now, which was fine by her. "If there are any songs you want me to learn, just let me know," Asten told him. "I like learning new ones, and there are a lot I know I've missed." She'd have to listen to the radio or something while he was gone and try to see what artists were popular, what kinds of songs people liked now. Being without music had been the second worst part of being locked up like an animal, in her opinion. The worst part had been being locked up at all.

Gunji smiled until she finished, shaking his head when she said that she was rusty. "No... You're singing is absolutely perfect," Gunji said. He pulled her close when she sat down and snuggled against her, nuzzling her cheek before he pulled away and gave her some space. "And I'm not sure what songs I would like you to sing to tell the truth. If you know any songs you know you can tell me. If anything comes up, I'll tell you," Gunji said before he stretched and stood up, glancing around them. The staff had left to make sure Asten wouldn't get nervous knowing they'd been watching. It seemed everyone who worked here had taken a liking to Asten. Gunji really did like the girl as well and hoped she stayed around, not running away.
"Let's go to the zoo now, Asten," Gunji said with a bright smile. He took her hand and hurried them upstairs so that he could grab his wallet and phone. He left his weapons, guessing he wouldn't need them. They wouldn't let him into the zoo with them anyways. It always frustrated him when Gunji couldn't go to places because of his claws. He honestly didn't see what was wrong with them. People were absolutely crazy. "I heard the new penguin exhibit is huge," Gunji said with a smile. Gunji smiled at Asten as he took her hand again, excited to go to the zoo. He went outside the room, asking a maid to contact someone to drive them there.

╚══════════════╝ Smiling at the compliment, even though a good listener was really all the compliment she needed, Asten let him snuggle and nuzzle her with a small laugh. She absently wondered if he'd had any slaves before her. It was rather hard to tell, with how he acted. It could be from being used to a slave, or it could be just Gunji being Gunji. Following him up and down the stairs cheerfully, the swan had to admit she wasn't too surprised the man didn't drive. The mere thought of him behind a wheel...she shuddered a bit.
"Oh, I like penguins! And the polar bears, if they have any," she added eagerly, as they waited at the front door for the driver to arrive. One of the cats appeared, meowing plaintively at her, so she picked it up and stroked it some, talking to it in a baby voice until it squirmed around to get down. Obliging, Asten took Gunji's hand again and smiled up at him. "I like the animals being around. I was afraid the place would be a wreck when you told me you had strays," she admitted with a sheepish grin. "I never had pets of my own except a turtle, my mom was horribly allergic to them. My dad took me to the zoo once and we had to change outside on the porch and throw our other ones right in the wash, she was sneezing so bad." Laughing a bit at the memory, it was clear singing and going back to what she loved had relaxed the shifter even more, considering she was sharing personal details with Gunji. As the car pulled up, she tugged his hand. "How far is it, anyway?" she asked curiously.

Gunji smiled when she said he liked penguins. He would go the colder side of the zoo first so they could look at the penguins and see if there were polar bears. Gunji liked them too. If not, the zoo had an albino black bear if that helped. Gunji glanced down at a meow and smiled as Asten baby talked it and it tried to get away. He blinked when she took his hand on her own and smiled, swinging their hands a little. Gunji smiled when she explained about her mother having allergies and their issues with going to the zoo. No one here had allergies... At least he thought so. "I used to bring stray puppies and cats into my house and my mama would always get mad at me. I would hide the animal in my room and feed it anyways but when she caught me I was always in a lot of trouble. She at least let me bring the animals to the adoption centres so that they could be adopted. Mama said she hated animals but sometimes she fed them when she wasn't being crazy," Gunji said, meaning high or drink but crazy.
When the car got there, the driver opened the door for them and Gunji smiled, leading them into the car. "It's about a 15 minute drive. It's not too far away. We could have taken the bus or something but I hate the bus and train," Gunji said with a smile. He pulled Asten close as they sat down, nuzzling her again and snuggling against her as they began to drive out from the mansion and to the zoo. To tell the truth, not going to the zoo for a while meant not going for a couple months... To tell the truth, Gunji had a year round pass. He went all the time even though he'd seen different animals before. He was almost a regular at the zoo. When they arrive, Gunji paid for Asten an used his pass to get inside. "Let's go inside here first," he said with a smile as he went into a gift shop.

╚══════════════╝ It was weird to her, that he was snuggling and being so affectionate in public, in a car, but oddly enough it wasn't too terrible. Just a bit disconcerting, until she got used to it. If it wasn't so far away, maybe they could walk next time. Asten never minded going on walks, as long as the weather was nice out. Otherwise, forget it, air conditioning or heat all the way. The car ride was quicker than she'd expected and somehow, she wasn't surprised to learn that Gunji had a year-round pass. At all.
Surprised he went to the gift shop first, thinking he wanted to see the penguins, she obediently tagged along after him, looking around. She'd never been one for gift shops. Her mother had always said, if it doesn't have anything to do with where you went, don't get it. And since that usually ruled out 99% of the merchandise in most cases, she'd sometimes get some postcards or a mug, but nothing else. It was still fun to look, though, and see what they were trying to get silly tourists to buy at ridiculous prices. She'd almost been sold to a zoo once, until they found out she was a shifter. Hadn't that been such a stink. It might have gotten in the papers, but she wasn't sure, since they'd long since moved elsewhere to get away from the fallout. Why would a zoo want swans anyway? You had 'em at parks now in plenty of places. Shaking her head, unable to understand some humans, Asten followed Gunji curiously, wondering what he was doing.

Gunji smiled and looked around the gift shop, bouncing on the balls of his feet every time he stopped and looked at his surroundings. There was post cards and snacks and papers and candies but that wasn't what Gunji was looking for. He grinned and stopped bouncing when he found what he was looking for. Gunji headed over to back wall in the shop and pulled Asten along by her hand. The wall was full of masks, animal hats, animal slippers, animal gloves, and animal ears. He pulled a pair of white bear ears off the wall and slipped them onto Asten, remembering that she'd said something about polar bears. "There... I picked one for you, so pick one for me," he said excitedly, looking the wall up and down. He usually didn't go to the gift shop but he liked the idea of getting to chose each other animal ears before they went on their adventure around the zoo. Gunji was like a little kid who was overly excited for a field trip. Hopefully Asten didn't mind.
Kids looked at Gunji strangely and parents lead their kids away from him but he didn't notice. He just waited patiently for a pair of animal ears to be picked for him. People could say of think whatever they wanted but it wouldn't ruin his day with Asten. Gunji couldn't possible let anything ruin his trip to the zoo with Asten. If someone bothered Asten, Gunji might fight them but not to the point were they would be kicked out of the zoo at least. Just so that they would be left alone.

╚══════════════╝ Taken by surprise at first, Asten just blinked up at him for a moment before smiling. She looked at the wall curiously. Well, penguins didn't have ears, so she couldn't do that...finding a pair of lion ears, she smiled and chose those. Leaning up and having to brace herself on Gunji so she didn't tip over, she put those on his head. "There, now you have ears to match the mane," Asten told him in amusement, going back down to her heels and folding her arms behind her head.
She noticed how people were looking and merely looked back, a smile on her face. That seemed to reassure people, maybe they thought Asten was his sister taking her 'special' brother out to the zoo or something, a thought that made her laugh a little. How very, very wrong that assumption was! She never got embarrassed easily, even when she was being shy.

Gunji smiled as Asten placed the lion ears on him. He glanced in the mirror then looked back at Asten, roaring playfully before he went to pay for the headbands. After that, he took Asten's hand and swung their hands playfully, taking them to the colder side of the zoo that had all the animals that belonged in cold habitats. He smiled when he saw the penguins, pointing at them and looking at Asten. "Don't you think they're adorable?!" he asked excitedly with a little giggle was he watched them waddle around, falling over each other constantly. If Gunji knew that people could be thinking Asten was "taking care" of him, he's probably call everyone else crazy.
He glanced as a map that he had grabbed, pointing to one spot on it. "Asten, there's polar bears," he said with a smile.

╚══════════════╝ "They're so cute!" she cooed. The zoo was much nicer than the one she'd been thinking of. It was a lot bigger and cleaner, for one thing. The animals even looked happy, which cheered her up immensely. A little cold from the area, she kept closed to Gunji for body heat. Waving at the penguins when they looked over at them, she smiled and laughed a little at their waddling. She knew she waddled too on land, but at least she didn't fall all over the place while doing. Watching them in the water, though, she as almost envious of how graceful she was. But then again, Asten could fly, so there was at least compensation.
Looking over at Gunji when he said there were polar bears, she grinned. "Oh, goody. Can we go see them next?" she asked, looking back to watch the penguins. She wanted to see the otters too, they were always so adorable and huggable-looking. Sort of like teddy bears, she mused. Gunji wasn't terrible to go to the zoo so far, either. He wasn't dragging her from animal to animal and not even letting her enjoy them, which was nice. What was the point of looking if you didn't get to stop and watch them for a while, she always thought.

Gunji smiled and nodded when she said she wanted to see the polar bears next. Once they'd enjoyed watching the penguins enough and one had even been brought outside to say hi to everyone, Gunji lead them over to the polar bears. He bounced on the balls of his feet happily as he watched the two polar bears move around. There was a baby one too and it was simply adorable. The blond went right up to the glass with Asten and looked though for a while before he glanced down at Asten. "If we don't see all of the animals today, we can come back tomorrow to see them," Gunji said excitedly. If Asten got bored they could grab something to eat. There was a nigh creatures exhibit where you went into one building and entered a room where the lights were off. It was dark and inside were nocturnal animals that Gunji hoped to see. Maybe they could go there after exploring the colder side of the zoo.
When some kid beside him complained about being cold, he looked at Asten, wishing he'd picked out a sweater for her when picking her outfit. "Are you cold?" Gunji asked as he shrugged off his sweater. He wasn't wearing anything under it so all his tattoos were showing but could care less. He placed his red sweater around Asten's shoulder's and took her hand again with a smile.

╚══════════════╝ They were so damn cute. Logically, she knew they could rip her in half and eat her, and would if they saw her bird form, but still...she just wanted to snuggle them. Happy they could come back instead of having to rush through - she hated rushing through - Asten smiled up and Gunji and nodded at his suggestion. "I'd like to come back, it'd be fun," she agreed, on the balls of her feet to see the bears better.
When Gunji asked if she was cold before draping his hoodie on her, she looked up at him in surprise. She'd already seen all his tattoos earlier, so they didn't shock her. It was just that he'd actually thought to ask her if she was. In truth, she wasn't, she tolerated cold much better than she did heat. But it was so nice he'd asked that she smiled and nodded. "I was a little bit, thank you," Asten replied, holding it closed with her free hand while her other gripped Gunji's. It was nice that he'd thought of it at all and the simple gesture made her inordinately happy. "Do you want to look at something else?" she asked, having noticed him look around.
I'm so sorry! I've been on vacation and just got home and resettled. ><

Gunji smiled at her, happy that she wasn't cold anymore. He swing their hands softly and watched the polar bear a while longer until he was asked if eh wanted to look at something else. Taking a moment to think about it, Gunji smiled and nodded. "Let's look at the lions and all the big doggies like the lions," Gunji said, getting his cats and dogs mixed up again. He lead them out of the colder section of the zoo although he left his sweater with Asten just in case she was still cold. He opened up the map and lead them to where he thought the lions were. In the end, Gunji got them a little lost. Apparently his map had been upside down but they got to see all kinds of other animals. He took his time since they could be here all day.
"Ah! Look at all the doggies!" he exclaimed suddenly when they entered the part of the zoo with all the large cats. Going to the lions first, he watched them roam around. The largest one looked over and Gunji growled at it childishly, making it growl back. He jumped slightly then laughed, making children watch him with the 'What-the-heck-is-wrong-with-him?' face. Gunji could care less. He just continued to watch the lions for a while before moving onto the cougars and watching them all carefully.

╚══════════════╝ Laughing when they realized the map was upside down, Asten was still enjoying herself immensely. Getting lost was part of the fun, watching Gunji try desperately to figure out where they were, only to flip it around and start at it in disbelief, like it had done that on purpose. The swan was just enjoying watching all of the animals - it was a nice zoo, none of them looked sad or sick or lonely, which made her feet better about coming to see them. Hopefully they could come back a lot, the animals were always doing something new and it was a nice place to spend time in.
Asten held her hand over her lips to hide a laugh when he called the cats 'doggies' again. It definitely seemed to be a 'thing', and she thought it was cute. She was a bit antsy around the big cats, though. They were beautiful and deadly - and the deadly part sent a shiver up her birdy spine. Asten was naturally prey, not a predator, so she kept a few feet back and watched, enjoying seeing Gunji get so into it. She blinked when someone patted her shoulder and glanced up to see a grinning young man.
"You here alone, pretty?" he asked, ignoring the obvious no as she shook her head, and the fact she had a man's hoodie draped on her.
