Trixie glanced over at Anton with a irritated look on her face when he said that they were riding with them. He was clearly a rude and outspoken person, but it reminded her of herself more than anything. She went over to Vladimir and Anton as they both talked about driving the car. She watched Anton throw a dead body from the truck onto the ground, and she blinked but remained without emotion other than slight excitement to go. She raised her chin once more when he said to get ready. Disappointment filled her when she watched Anton wak back over to his own truck, but she understood. She really didn't want to sit in the same car with no one she had anything in common with. She jogged over to Anton, and her eyes showed caution as she said "You have anybody to ride with?" She had no idea about the others, or who was riding with who. She just hoped he let her in the passenger seat. She didn't want to ride with Lyra, or even Amai for that matter. She hoped he didn't turn her down, but there was always a good guarantee since she had thrown a child tantrum earlier and had made him stop. Trixie was probably far from his good side right now.

Xavier saw her smile at him and he had trouble getting his breath back for a moment. He glanced away from her and quickly finished the water bottle, anxiety taking over him. He closed his eyes, forcing himself to calm down. He opened them once more when he felt someone pat his head. He saw it was Amai and raised his eyebrows at her, wondering what she wanted. When she said that she was okay he frowned, confused for a moment. He smiled when he got what she meant and blushed, clearing his throat. "Thanks," He said uncomfortably. He felt more or less like a pet when he was around Amai. Without knowing why or how, he got up and out from the truck when he saw Lyra walk away. He closed the side door and went over to Vladimir as well, peeking in the windows of the car. He heard Vladimir ask Lyra if she wanted to ride with him and without thinking Xavier shot him a look of pure jealously and annoyance, hoping he didn't have competition. He wanted to ride wherever Lyra was going to be, even if it meant riding with only two others.

Amai Macintyre & Lyra Lancaster

Amai smiled when Xavier said his thank you but she noticed the uncomfortable look he had on his face. She wondered what that was for but lost her train of thought when he left the truck. She looked at the cars; there were six of them so there should be three people in two cars. At least that was the logical way to look at it. She wanted to ride with Lyra, but Xavier had totally just stolen the other seat. She sat and watched as Trixie asked Anton if he had someone to ride with. It wasn't that she didn't like them, they were just a little high strung...

Lyra nodded to Vladimir and climbed into the passenger seat. She noticed Xavier run up to the car and wondered if he was riding with them. She didn't really care who rode with them but she was sure Amai would have hopped in the back. She honestly just wanted to get the hell on the move, like Anton said, it was getting dark.

Anton R.
Anton looked over at Trixie as he was fixing the supplies in his truck. He shrugged his shoulders at her question. He didn’t care if he rode with anyone, but he preferred not to. He figured that she could handle herself and since she was like him, she wouldn’t try the old chit chat business that he hated. “I didn’t plan on it but you can handle yourself. Plus you don’t talk much which in my book is a plus. So go ahead and climb in.” Anton grabbed the belongings of everyone else and carried them across the parking lot. He threw a few extra things that they would need, like extra food, water and weapons, and placed everything outside of the cars. When he walked over to them Vladimir asked about a plan.

“Hey. So who’s riding with whom?” Vladimir asked.
“Well I prefer to ride by myself but it’s best to have another person. So Trixie’s riding with me. You four could ride together since you’ll need the extra help after he got sick after a little fight.” Anton said as he pointed at Xavier.
“Okay that’s fine with me. But what about communication? We need to stay on top of that.” Vladimir asked again.
”You have a cell phone. I have a cell phone. Just call after so many miles and we’ll tell each other how things are going.” Anton told him sarcastically. He figured it was common sense. ”But we really need to get going. It’s getting dark. If the arrangements don’t work we’ll figure something out tomorrow.” Anton jogged back to his truck.

He climbed into his truck and got situated in his seat. After buckling up and starting the car he closed his door. “Make sure you lock yours Trixie. It may save us one day.” he said as he check the truck to make sure everything was fine.

Vladimir R.
Vladimir just listened to Anton explain everything. He thought he was the one with the plan but apparently not. He didn’t protest because he knew that he couldn’t come up with anything better. Plus a plan was better than nothing. After Anton walked away he put the stuff in the car. It was a hatch back so if they needed anything the people in the back seat could just reach over and grab something. To Vladimir this was a plus that the car had. Vladimir was disappointed that he wasn’t able to be with Anton. Vladimir wasn’t the friend making type so being with his cousin would’ve made things a lot easier. After getting over his disappointment he got into the driver’s seat. “Is everyone ready?” he asked as he started the car. He made sure everything was in order before buckling up too. Even though he was in a zombie apocalypse it didn’t stop Vladimir from obeying the law. Plus if they hit something it would make his life a lot easier.

Trixie listened to his answer with joy, knowing with Anton that meant yes. She got in the passenger seat fast, searching for her weapons. When she was reassured that they were both in their proper places, she leaned back against the seat, tense but was relaxed even for herself. She watched Anton walk over to his cousin and exchange a few words, but her attention was quickly drawn to the others. Lyra seemed more than ready to go, which was probably the only thing she had had in common with her so far; Xavier seemed jumpy and wasn't at all happy with Vladimir for some reason; and Amai wasn't in sight. She didn't remember the small girl getting out in the first place, so she wondered if she was still in the truck with her. She didn't turn around or bother to look around for her. She had a feeling even if she was not big, the girl could take care of herself. Trixie's concentration was again on Anton as she watched him jog back to the car and climb in beside her, putting his seat belt on and whatnot. The car jolted her forward a bit as it started, and she once more looked out the window at the other car, seeing Vladimir get in it as well and get ready to go. She heard Anton's words, turned her head to glance at him for a moment, but without second guessing him she obeyed. She put her lock down and faced the front, almost bouncing with excitement to get to another state despite earlier.

Xavier got in the truck without another word, but was more than disappointed when Lyra got in the passenger seat. She would be sitting next to Vladimir. Of course. He bit his lip nervously, kind of wishing he had picked the other car now. He hated being the the third wheel out of any group. His thoughts drifted to Amai, noticing she wasn't anywhere in the open. His eyebrows furrowed and he really hoped she would decide to get in this car, so he would at least have someone to talk to. Lyra wasn't really an ideal person right now and Vladimir seemed more like a quiet kid. Amai was too, he soon figured out, but had at least spoken to him a couple of times. After all, she had been the first human he had seen in weeks. He got out of the car just in time to hear Anton say his name. He threw him a dirty glance but continued on his way to the truck, glancing in the windows. He opened the back door and gestured for her to come with him. "Amai, you can ride with us too. They're is still one spot open, and I don't think Anton is planning on you riding with them. Besides, I'm sure you want to ride with Lyra, and she would want you there too." He waited for a response from her, praying she wouldn't turn him down.

Amai Macintyre

Amai looked at Xavier and then nodded, stepping out of the truck. If Anton and Trixie wanted to be alone, that was fine with her. They didn't seem too friendly anyhow. She walked back to the truck with Xavier and sat in the backseat behind Lyra, who nodded to her when she closed her door. "Well...I guess we should be ready to go..."

Anton R.
Anton pulled along the side of the other car. He rolled down Trixie’s window form the button next to him and shouted. “Remember if we get too far from each other immediately call. Make sure you keep constant contact.” Anton yelled before putting the window back up. He checked the map again that was on the center compartment. He looked at the compass and started to head south as he slowly pulled out of the parking lot. After seeing that Vladimir was following closely behind him, Anton picked up speed, so that they could make up time. The truck was silent and Anton pictured a pin dropping. Although he liked silence and keeping to himself, this was too much for such a long journey, so he made small talk with Trixie. “So can you actually shoot that thing? I mean to where you hit what you’re aiming at?” Anton asked, trying not to be cocky or rude even though it probably sounded like it.

Vladimir R.
Vladimir kept his phone close to him as he tried to follow Anton. He was doing well until they picked up speed. Vladimir never liked driving. He hated to take risks and know that people’s lives were kind of in his hands. He kept his nerves cool and focused on the road. After calming down quite a bit he asked everyone a question. “So where were you when this out break happened?” Vladimir turned his attention back to the road.

Trixie heard him shout through her window, right in her ear. She didn't look away from the windshield, taking short breaths as she worried inside about if they would even make it to another state or not without getting jumped or killed. She was relieved that they would be keeping in contact with each other, even if she could take care of herself. It was just another safety thing she wasn't mind having. And knowing that Anton was just a good a shot that she was, made her feel better than it should have. She glanced over at him, but he was again concentrating on the road. She wondered what he was thinking. She couldn't help but feel creeped out by the silence, because usually she wouldn't shut up no matter who she was talking to. But it was different with Anton, he made her to where she didn't want to talk that much, for fear of annoying him. She had no idea why she cared if she irritated him or not, but she somehow did. She almost sighed when he tried to make conversation with her. She could tell he wasn't that comfortable with her yet, and right then she made it her goal to change that. She smirked at what he said; almost offended that he didn't believe she was a good shot. "Of course. I've been able to hit a target right on since I was seven." She hoped he didn't think she was trying to brag, because she wasn't. "It's pretty easy, actually. You know, once your used to it and everything." She shrugged, and glanced out the side of her window, watching the view as they drove by. "You're not so bad at it either, from what I've noticed." She raised her eyebrows, curious to hear about his story as well.

Xavier got in the truck after her, overjoyed that she had agreed to go with them instead. He shot a glance at Lyra, but she wasn't paying attention to him, as usual. He had a feeling this would be harder than he had thought. He sighed, more than frustrated as he sat in the back of the truck with Amai. He leaned back against the seat, closing his eyes. He heard Vladimir's question but didn't feel like talking, nor responding to him. So he buckled up and mumbled, "Pass." As he started falling asleep instantly, he was thinking that it was nice to have some people around that he could trust. At least he thought he could trust them. He wasn't sure yet, especially about Anton or Vladimir.

Anton R.

Anton's eyes became glued to the road as he began to tell her some of his story. Memories flashed across the front of his eyes and he could see each one of them plain as day; it was as if he was reliving them. Various degrees of memories caused his emotions to go all over the spectrum. He felt angry but then sad as he relived some of the best memories with his father. "I was five when my father first placed a gun in my hands. We were in the old country and he wanted me to learn. Something about following in his foot steps." Anton grabbed a water out of the center compartment and drank a little. The dryness of his mouth made him forget about the water being warm. "After a while I became a great marksmen I guess. Winning various competitions, tournaments and other stuff. After we left Mother Russia we started to traveled the world and hunted different animals. Both big and small." Anton tried to tell her this without sounding like he was boasting, even though he had the tendency to sound like he was doing so. He wasn't proud about it, but the way he talked made it seem so. Granted he loved the thrill of shooting and the fact that he had exceptionally great accuracy, there was one thing that he hated, and that was boasting about it. To him, he was no greater than anyone else, and the only difference was that his father and experience had trained him. Anton grabbed the water again and took a swig of it and recapped it. He checked the map once again and replaced it in the compartment. His grip on the steering wheel had become tightened and his hand began to hurt. After loosening it and pushing back the mental pictures, he shook his hand to relieve the pain, and replaced it back to it's original spot. If Anton was going to survive, he needed to learn to control himself again, instead of letting this epidemic get the best of his emotions.

Trixie listened to him with curiosity, paying more attention to someone when they spoke than she had in years. Somehow he interested her, how he acted and told what had happened to him. She couldn't help but notice how his face would change from anger to sadness; his expressions conflicted from so many emotions. He seemed sad when he talked about his father, but she didn't wonder about it too much. She wasn't surprised that he had won different competitions, he was just a bit better than she was, and that was saying something. She hadn't met anyone until Anton that could shoot better than she could, and that shocked her more than anything. She continued to watch him take the map out and glance over it, reassuring himself that they were going in the right direction. "That's amazing," She said softly, surprising herself by being sincere. "That you've been in places like that." She decided to tell the truth, but she felt herself flush as she spoke. "I've never really met anyone that could shoot as well as I could. Actually, it was my brother that taught me, and he always complimented me on how great I was. I didn't really believe it at first." She smiled weakly, thinking about her oldest brother with her own sadness. "But after you shoot a few zombies in the head right on a few block away..you kind of have to." She laughed loudly, her sense of humor returning fast. "So you were born in Russia, or what?" She asked, turning her head to stare at him once more, a grin on her face.

Anton R.
Anton smiled a little at Trixie. He wasn't used to people complimenting him and it seemed weird. Growing up his parents never gave him praise or showed affection. The way he knew that he got their approval was when neither one of them were drilling him about how he could do better. It just wasn't part of who they were he figured; or it was because of growing up in Russia. “It’s not about being better. It’s about dedication my boy.” Anton said; his Russian accent stronger than before. He laughed a little afterwards. “My father used to tell me this after I would ask when I was going to get better.” Anton switched lanes and went the large bend on the highway. He nodded and looked over at Trixie after she asked him a question. “We left when I was ten.” was all that he was going to say about the motherland. He felt that it was a touchy subject because of the reason for his parents leaving. He never really told anyone why he came to America, but instead gave a generic story about wanting a better life. Everyone called it the ‘American Dream’ and Anton found it to be the complete opposite. Anton no longer wanted the attention to be on him and so he switched it to her. “Where’d your brother learn to shoot?” he asked with a raised eyebrow.

Amai Macintyre & Lyra Lancaster

Amai smiled at Xavier when she noticed he was falling asleep. She then leaned over to look out the windshield as Vladimir followed Anton. "I was in my house. I'd been in there for about three days before I decided to come and meet Lyra. Luckily I didn't have to take out my zombified parents to leave; they were already roaming the streets. But I was just outside of Cali which is why I decided to walk...well that and the fact that I can't drive anyway." Amai nodded, satisfied with her explanation.

Lyra watched the road stretched out in front of them as she answered Vladimir's question. "I had been holed up in my mother's hotel room for two weeks. I left after Amai said she was coming to meet me but was taking forever to get to me. That's when you guys rescued me." She never took her eyes off of the darkness that lay ahead of them as she listened to the conversation.

Trixie felt like she had met her goal the moment he gave her a hint of a smile. At least he was opening up, even if it was only slightly. She grinned at his accent. It was funny, hearing that in California for her. She nodded at his words, thinking he was wise with his words. He always seemed to think before he spoke, which was the exact opposite of what she did. She bit her lip. He had been in Russia for quite a while, no wonder he had an accent. She was surprised when he asked about her brother, and she turned her head to stare out the window. "I, um. I'm not really sure." She took a deep breath. Her brother was her own touchy subject. She hated talking about him. She had a feeling he was dead by now, but wasn't sure about that, either. "Probably just at another shooting range." She snuck a peek at Anton, wondering what he would say.

Xavier listened to the conversation, even if he wasn't involved in it. He wanted to know more about Lyra, and maybe surprise her with what he knew himself. Anton R.
The black of the night finally set its grasp. The moon had begun to glow brightly in the night as Anton turned on his brights. He turned the interior roof light and checked the map for the nearest exit ramp. “We need to find somewhere to sleep.” Anton picked up his phone and sent Vladimir a text message. Take the next exit. We need to rest. He placed the phone back in the cup holder and turned onto the off ramp. “Well where ever he learned it from…I’m glad it passed on to you.” Anton looked at Trixie and gave a slight smile but still kept his original composure. Anton slowed the truck to almost a slow crawl as he searched the street for a place to rest. There were buildings after buildings, but all of them were boarded up, so there was no way they were getting in them. “Keep your eyes open for an open building. Nothing too big though.” Anton said as he did the same.

Vladimir R.
Vladimir looked at the message on his phone. His heart began to race as he thought about getting out of the car and back with those things. “I guess we’re taking shelter for the night to rest.” Vladimir followed the truck his cousin was driving and wondered what he was looking for. “I came home from a conference because my uncle was sick. I walked in to my uncle eating the body of my aunt. I ran and took refuge in our vacation home.” Vladimir became quiet and the silence in the car became even worse. Even though he loved the comfort of the silence when he was alone in his room, this silence was different and a lot worse since there were people with him, but he refused to be the one to speak up in fear that he would say something stupid.

Trixie noticed that she couldn't really see out the window that well anymore, now that it was dark. She settled on watching Anton drive, noticing that he pulled out the map. She nodded at what he said, a bit disappointed that they had to stop for the night. She could understand why, though. Zombies were harder to see in the night time, and it was too dangerous. She tried to fight a yawn and frowned, wondering why she was so tired. At Anton's next words she felt her face flush for no good reason, and she shyly smiled back at him. "Thank you..I am too." She kept her tone clear, but she hadn't a clue why she had blushed. Usually she would have laughed and played it off. And she was never shy, no matter what. She decided to move along with her life; it didn't matter. But she couldn't help but still feel happy for the compliment. "That sounds good to me. We all need to take a break, anyway." She was back to business, his words forgotten. She turned to watch out the windshield for somewhere to stop, even before he said to. She almost couldn't see a thing; only darkness and the outline of buildings. She sighed in frustration, but didn't want to let him down. She continued to look out for anything that could be of use to them.

Xavier heard Vladimir and he opened his eyes quickly, turning his head to see that it was already dark outside. He tried not to think of what was out there. He liked the idea of sleep though; it had all been a exhausting day for all of them. He continued to listen to Valdimir, not really interested in the story. He flinched, not liking the image of people eating each other. He noticed the awkward silence, but didn't want to be the one to break it. He continued to stare out the window, not saying anything. But he couldn't help and feel bad for Vladimir. It didn't sound like an easy thing to say, and especially not easy to see for the guy himself.

Amai Macintyre & Lyra Lancaster

Amai sat silently after hearing Vladimir's gruesome tale. That must've been a horrible sight. Amai herself had had a slight inkling of what had happened to her parents, but she had been fortunate enough to escape without seeing her parents or anyone she knew devouring someone else. She relaxed and yawned when Vladimir mentioned rest; they had been on the road for hours and tensions had been high between everyone. She figured a little rest would do everyone some good.

Lyra had been silent ever since she'd said her piece about where she'd been. These people were her companions for the time being, and she probably should be trying to get to know them. However, she stayed silent until she heard Vladimir tell his tale. She turned and saw the look on his face and with very sincere eyes said "I'm sorry you had to see that." She somewhat knew where he was coming from after having dealt with her own mother for two weeks. However, she'd never seen her mother again after she'd been pronounced dead and hauled away. She let out a faint sigh, barely hearing about stopping to rest. Truthfully she hadn't wanted to stop, even if she knew it was the best thing to do to keep everyone on their gaurd.
