It was a saving grace that Molly had done what she'd done because Bix's self preservation instinct was not at it's highest. He'd been frozen in shock and maybe even fear when things had gone from sad, to bad to worse.

He seemed more mentally damaged at the moment than he was physically. Molly was a good ground for him because somewhere inside he told himself not to look too pathetic in front of her.

"Okay.. thanks." His voice was soft and he didn't lean on her too much but he did have his arm wrapped around her very tightly. It would have been the same for just about anyone who might have grabbed him. He held her like she was about to get snatched away any second.

He looked pretty awful, probably worse than he felt, with a dirty tear stained face, blossoming sunburn, and covered in bug goo and sand. Even his perfect braid was roughed up, loose, and wisps stuck out every which way.

It was a hell of a good thing that Gale had pulled Eva along. Otherwise, she wasn't sure if she would have made it--when Julie's body had been knocked down and the bugs poured out of her, all Eva could do was stand frozen and stare, her mind a mess of questions. The sharp jerk of being pulled along to the portal had been enough to snap her out of her thoughts and encourage her to run.

The thing she immediately noticed once they were through the portal was the huge drop in temperature. They had gone from a place that had been scalding hot, to one that was freezing. As she tried to adjust to the drastic change, she peered around the tent, searching for familiar faces among the trainees who had burst through the portal. Was everyone...?

Eva turned back to look at Gale just as the boy collapsed. Her hand shot out in an attempt to catch him, her brows creased deeply in worry. "I'm fine, but you're....come on, I'm bringing you to the infirmary tent."

She had wanted to hang around the portal and watch to make sure that everyone--Reine and Otto especially--made it through, but she wanted Gale's injuries to be tended to. Taking comfort in the fact that two of the other trainees--Jordan and Madison--seemed to be keeping an eye on the portal, Eva lifted one of Gale's arms, slinging it over her shoulder as she wrapped her other arm around his waist.

"Are you okay? Lean on me, alright?"

Molly did a visual sweep of who was here and who wasn’t so far, anxiety prying at her before she offered, what she hoped, was an encouraging smile to Bix.

It was just easier to focus on one thing at a time now, and that one thing was seeing Bix off to the infirmary…and anyone else who may need it. She was probably going to come back after she dropped the Sun Hunter off and made sure he was tended to. Helping others out, escorting them…that was something she felt she could do…to make up for not being to help out back in the desert.

Julie, Tori was still sorry, but she had been glad that Allen had saved them and once a portal had been made it didn't take too much prodding to get her to run through the portal once Allen was done with it done and Tori was total done with bugs and sand for a while.

Once on the other side to which she started to shiver since there was snow all around and was thankful when she had been give a blanket and something warm to drink and fell sorta in a trance as she walked wanting nothing more than to read a book or several of them of the information type and then maybe rest, just maybe. Slowly she started to follow some of the other trainees firther into the base hoping that her friends were alright along with the other trainees too along with Allen and Simon too. Dam she really really just waited to read as Aklin just grumbled at her.

His legs felt like lead, but Gale still struggled to stand back up without help, shaking his head. Bits of sand and blood had caught in his hair, making it matted and dirty, and he felt disgusting. It wasn't as if Eva had come out of this looking fresh and sunshiney, but that, combined with the fact that he did not enjoy feeling weak in front of her, and the whole ordeal in general, made Gale very despondent.

His head ached, and his chest - though the ache in his chest was not all from physical injury.

"M'fine," he muttered, even as he swayed from side to side unsteadily. He took a step forward and nearly collapsed again, one of his legs ricocheting with pain.

Damn it. Jinhai?

<< I'm still here. >>

Gale pressed his lips together. Julie's face flashed in front of his eyes, blood streaked, her eyes dead inside. It was followed in rapid succession by an all-too-familiar face with a shock of red hair and an easy smile.

"Anyway once you sit in, ask away, I never did catch your name. It's gonna be a long ride anyway, might as well get cozy..."

No, thought Gale. No.

His cheeks felt hot, his chest tight. Silently, Gale gave in, letting himself lean on Eva's shoulder as she slung an arm around his waist, helping him back up.

"...I'm sorry."

Leon would be lying if he didn't feel relieved that Cass's hand was not... buggy, as silly as it sounded. he himself tried to wiggles his own digits experimentally, the numbness of the cold faded with the flexing of the limbs. "That makes two of us." he tried to joke but the joke went sour yet again in his throat.

The hug wasn't sudden, but more shocking as he flinched at the affectionate gesture and quickly softened at the notion, almost melting into the embrace. masculinity be damned. "We didn't have much luxuries on the island, but she made it feel like a home." he said quietly to cass, airing his thoughts out. "trying to make it feel more like a family." he continued and fought the urge to shiver at the realization of the loss.

they took away one of their luxuries, and sometimes source of torture from them.

despite all the sadness that was bottled up inside, The Life hunter was furious. At the enemy and mostly at himself. His rage kept him even warmer under that snuggly blanket.

Penguins did nothing but stare. They wanted to get past the shiny barrier and check for fish.

Cass leaned her head against Leon's sigh a sigh. Frankly, the only person who probably would have commented on his masculinity had just been hauled off to the Infirmary, so really, who was going to judge? She wasn't. "Yeah. She did. She really did." the mist trainee agreed almost quietly as she passed a look around at the rest of the trainees who were spilling out into the area, then passing a look over at the penguins, tilting her head at them.

There was something awkward about being stared down my penguins. Awkward penguins.

Part of her wanted to say something. Something like 'Just means we'll have to work extra hard at that for her'. God dammit, she didn't even know what she wanted to say. She wanted to cry. She wanted to find a corner and curl up in it and weep and maybe never get up again. Ever.

But she knew it wouldn't help and it wouldn't make a difference. Cass's hug seemed to get just a bit tighter, betraying that sense of discomfort she felt before she finally pulled away to get up. "Not going to get much warmer sitting out here, though. Do you need to head to the infirmary or are you feeling alright on that front?" she asked.

Bix did the same as Molly, casting his glance idly around as he checked off his mental list. Were his friends safe? Had they all gotten back?

He numbly followed her lead to the Infirmary tent.

Dakota hadn't done s**t to help Julie.

He, as a moon hunter. As a intermediate Trainee didn't do s**t to help his assistant, he couldn't even ******** free her from being a puppet on the horsemen's strings.

he couldn't do s**t. So when he was shoved through the portal, forced to leave her or die with her, he came out hanging on the end of his ********!" He stepped away from the hunters, from his friends. Chama did her best to warm him, to help him but he was pissed. <********, I needed to do more..." He growled...Ramming his hands on the metal base area's....and then kept punching it. "I should've done more, I could've done so much more."

"Don't you ******** think I know that?" This was war, good people died. Julie was TOO good of a person. no matter how she treated the trainee's...the impossible missions, the laced baked goods, Julie always...ALWAYS had a smile on her face. And her ridiculous rainbow socks, her hair pins all over...Her fugly apron.

"I started to think she was actually kinda of cool for the moonies." He punched the tent again.

No.

"It's not your fault."

She wasn't entirely sure who or what he was apologizing to--her? Julie?--but in either case, he was not at all to blame for what had happened. Eva wanted to help him out of her own free will, and Julie...

Perhaps they all held regrets about Julie and what they could have done for her. However, now was not the time to mourn the poor girl--Eva's priorities right now lay in getting Gale checked out and then doing her part in helping around the base. They couldn't prevent Julie's death, but perhaps they could prevent others if they were ready.

"Ready? Let's go."

She couldn't have done it- that thought brought a pang of regret, as she heard the sickening crunch of Allan's broadsword cutting Julie down, heard the flapping of wings of a billion insects rushing past them. If she hadn't been at the front, she would have run back for Justin, but everyone was pushing and shoving, struggling to get into the portal.

The biting cold that met her was almost unbearable; Reine staggered towards the hunters with the blankets, gratefully accepting the mug of cocoa that was held out to her. Teeth chattering, she lingered near the portal- she didn't need any medical attention, but there was at least one person she knew who did, and she wanted to know, while there was still time to stand around, that he was fine.

Glancing around, she caught a glimpse of Eva, propping someone else up; that meant she was fine-- and then she noticed another blanket-clad figure, near her. The sight made her laugh, even in a situation that was most definitely not funny, not with all the deaths around them, all the seriousness. Reine toddled over to Otto, holding her blanket open for a moment to put her arm around him.

"Puppy," she murmured, nuzzling against him. "I'm glad you're fine."

Though she was still shivering, the cocoa and the cuddle made her feel a little better. They stood like penguins in the snow, Reine watching the portal for any sign of Justin.

Please let him make it out, please.

Molly came back into the portal area, anxious.

She was relieved to see a few more familiar faces, and looked around for Before like Bix requested, but had yet to see her fellow Misty. Just be patient, Molly…or try to be anyways…seeing Dakota come through the portal was a huge relief as well. She remembered seeing the young man take quite a beating as well, and with that thought in mind, she immediately started to move towards his side.

The Misty winced as he started to punch the tent, and hesitated for a moment. “Dakota…” She murmured, and then gathered the nerve to reach out for one of his hands. “…You should get to the infirmary, alright? Here, I’ll help you…”

Harrison grasped Marcus's collar, half out of grief, half out of needing to stay upright. His whole arm was shaking. B0nez could only go on about one thing in his head.

"We didn't...we didn't ******** her weapon- we left it. We left it."

Don't be sick.

"I'm sorry."

Even Gale was not certain as to what exactly he was referring to in his apology. It was halfhearted at best, his head spinning unpleasantly, and Gale could not quite get everything out that he wanted to. He leaned against Eva tiredly, letting her lead him out of the tent.

Instead of answering Maddie's question, Jordan asked, "How're you holding up? Did you get hurt during that - " he hesitated - "that mess? You should rest if you need rest."
