Quote: 2- Salamander skin, rune written in charcoal 3- Bear hide, rune written in Chalk (x2) Aksaja winced as he sat down, already feeling like an idiot since he hadn't really tried yesterday. He'd completely been planning to, but . . . he'd gotten confused and so just sat there stupidly looking at the two sets of stuff without knowing what to choose. Now he got no choice at all. Oh well. With a sigh, the lightning dragon plodded up to the front of the room to grab one of the wardstones and some skins.
At least these he could recognize, thanks to hunting. Some kind of lizard skin, and two bear hides. Hmn. Interesting.

Today's lecture could hardly be called a lecture it all: strangely enough, Bulbous wasn't mocking them at all, at least comparing to what Shenny was expecting. The ghoul suddenly sympathised with the Alchemist: perhaps, he's just too tired of dumb younglings thinking they can master his art. But.. wait a minute, as far as she knew, they were the first "dumb younglings" here, unless horsemen somehow had "dumb youngliings", too. But well, horsemen are fear beings, too, why wouldn't they have dumb younglings between them?..
Shenny was a bit proud of herself, she was clever enough to actually take her dead skull seed with her today. And Bulbous' explanation made it quite clear, why nothing happened yesterday: of course, it should just take time! That was obvious, wasn't it?..
Shenny grabbed a rotting leg looking pretty much a tiny copy of a dragon's leg: Levathia. It was fitting the bottom of a little clay pot she got very well. Picking oils was a harder choice: the ghoul studied them for a moment, and finally took some thick brown oil, and twice of red oil, which strangely came in globs. There were also green and yellow, but since Shenny had no idea of their exact abilities, she thought that brown and red actually fit the main Famine island colour pattern, and thus shouldn't let her down.
She carefully planted her skull seed into a pot, and watered the soil with the oils. Watching the oils being soaked into the ground, Shenny realized her wild guess about the nature of Oasis seems to be correct: plants and crops here, on Famine, appear to require oils to sustain their existence. Which brings her to further questions: where do the oils come from? It would be logical enough to assume they're made from the plants, as well, but if there were no horsemen here to actually make the oils how would the plants produce those oils? Or is the whole environment based on horsemen existence rather than vice versa?
And the second question was more important right now... what are they supposed to grow from the seeds? Could it, by chance, be that plant she encountered at the aviary, which provided her with such a perfect sense of happiness?..
Constructive; starting bonus: +3 Minipet used: Levathia Oils used: Brown oil, Red oil, Red oil.

Zurine glanced up as someone spoke to her, she gave the boil tight smile "I'd like it a lot better if we didn't have to keep using..or hearing or seeing dead animals" She admitted. But then gave a slight shrug - it's not like they could really control the class or what happened in it and Arel's warning about not questioning the methods of the clans men was still quite fresh in her mind. "I thought Alchemy would be all about..potions and such, you know turning one thing into another like the stories, straw into gold and the like..not poor dead animals stuck in dirt" She went on being sure to keep her voice low so as not to disturb anyone in class who was ..enjoying..things.

Dead birds were fairly commonplace in Halloween, and so Taryn was the least disturbed by the dead corrividus, with second place going to the leviatha that could very well fall apart in her hands. The stench of rot was cloying, but it as most polite to just pretend that it wasn't there-- the professor had no problem with them, after all.
The ghoul returned to her desk and narrowed her eyes at her supplies. She had initially been reassured by the presence of dirt and seeds and her good record with the vegetation class... but this was different. After all, there were rotting minipets and oils she didn't quite understand. Well, it was time to wing it! Taryn poured her soil into the pot and buried the seed a knuckle deep again, then adding a healthy dose of gloppy red sludge and a bit of yellow oil.
She brought the pot up the the front and smiled softly to the professor, averting her eyes after a moment and giving a polite nod. Alright... please, please don't have failed...

✰ VAITH'S CLASS ✰ ISLE OF FAMINE ✰ WEEK ONE :: DAY TWO ✰ STAGE ONE: ?? ---------------------------------------------------------------
Wrap a dead minipet around his stone .. and place it in a circle. it seemed simple enough. Except, Vaith was pretty sure he was hearing mysterious things. It was probably his imagination .. but were more things rustling? Most probably the moths and .. Perhaps that rustling wasn't rustling after all. They almost sounded like whispers.
Every second that passed, Vaith was cautiously alert of his environment. In a paranoid manner actually. In his mind, he wondered what Famine was eating .. and looked down at the dead leviatha he had chosen.
It was a little alarming to hold a dead salamander in his hands, considering Vaith was part of the family. Was this a dead extended cousin?
Secretly, somewhere inside, all these thoughts was a little fun to think of. Just like how this activity was fun. If there wasn't the bizarre aspect, it was almost like cooking class.--------------------------------------------------------------- Destructive = +1 Bonus Ingredients: Salamander Skin, Bear Hide (2) Minipet: Leviatha

Rafael was a little late to class today thanks to his ordeal yesterday with the plants. He was not making that mistake again. The sleepiness had really only lasted about an hour, but he was grumpy for the rest of the night afterwards since it had messed with his poison-making so badly. "Feeling any better?" He asked Taryn as he settled in next to her and started taking notes. Truth be told, he probably wouldn't have done much better with the poisons even if he'd been totally fine, so it hardly mattered. He looked around for Malodore and couldn't find it. Grumbling, realizing he'd have to try and stumble through a class on his own, he set himself to the task of taking proper notes. He chose a leviathia because it was scaly. He decided to pretend it was a snake so that he wouldn't mind it being dead. A dead snake was always a good thing for a rat. Now then....choosing the oil. He ended up with two greens and one yellow. They flowed smoothly, at least, and soaked into the soil without too much problem. Nothing happened. Again. Alchemy was way too slow for his tastes. +2 bonus Leviathia Two green oil, one yellow oil

Taryn only nodded to Rafe, of the opinion that they shouldn't speak during an active part of the class. She felt immediately bad, though, and so as everyone was working quietly and putting their work before the professor, she finally spoke.
"How are you doing?" she asked quietly, now that there was no work to be done. "I thought I was a goner for a while."

"Then better wish luck," interjected a certain zomboil sitting by Rafe quietly, eyeing his set with the wariness he would a bomb. "If leader thinks was goner, well . . . Will n-need luck for self then." Alright, let's try this.
Rotting flesh was nothing new to Mort, and certainly not dead mini pets. He'd seen his fair share along the bumpy road to becoming a average minipet owner, and his adopted brother had, er, . . . had his own sets of failures he happily kept buried. But enough about the past, the present awaited!
He cracked his fingers, popping a knuckle back in place when it tried to go rogue from the pressure, and set about picking his subject and skins. Mort went with the scareon remains for the familiarity (even if this one was definitely not the same kind as Watt was) and snatched two bear hides and a . . . whatever this skin was to wrap, bundling them all together with the wardstone from earlier. It wasn't a neatly bundled present, but it'd do, right? Though he couldn't help but muse, as he put his experiment at the front of class, one why the bear hide had chalk on it; not to mention the origins of the mysterious skin with blood . . .
"Mrrr . . . Think is going well?" he whispered to his companions upon his return.

Constructive Step 1: Grab a type of rotting minipet and place it at the bottom of the pot Types possible: Foxfire, leviathia, scareon, corrividus Step 2: Roll 3 d4 to get waters to soak your soil in. (If you roll doubles you will just have 2 of that oil) 1- Green oil, runs like water 2-Yellow oil, runs a little slower than water 3-Brown oil, slow and thick 4-Red oil, it comes in globs You’ll be planting the seed in a small handheld clay pot, the oils acting as water. Which will soak into the earth. Once finished go to the front of the class and drop off your planted dead seed with: Starting bonus from yesterday, what skins used, and what minipet used in BOLD RED at the bottom of your post. Arynek also attended the second day class in time, of course, with her seed. After listening to what Bulbous said, the shadow ghoul knew that this stage was quite important, but no demonstration......? Moreover, Bulbous warned that " don’t kill yourselves"? Is the seed a weak thing as Bulbous commented? So where comes the dangers? Anyway, it seemed that her seed was alright, just the effect took time to be seen... Actually, what they were doing was quite similar to how they perform planting in Halloween, but instead of water, oils are used. The skull-like seed Bulbous gave them at Lesson 1 had small amount of FEAR inscribed, Arynek recalled. " Are all the plants and crops here grow in this way?" She murmured. She has found something like oils in the oasis's water, but they are in black" Also, she recalled the crops in the crop rooms, are they grow in similar manner? Maybe she should take a look at those odious crops and visit the oasis, even that means she had to suffer again.... Going back to the seed, she had to choose a rotting minipet, which to pick? Students were given 4 types: Foxfire, leviathia, scareon and corrividus. Em.......How about Corrividus? She then needed to get "waters" which actually oils in her view, the shadow ghoul got green, yellow and red oils in three vials with her. Back to her seat, Arynek first cut and fitted portion of the poor bird into the bottom of the pot, (She didn't want to do that to the poor bird, even it's dead) poured some soils above and then the "waters". Her seed was now soaked in oils and soils, the dormant stage had started. She wondered what she would get when it ripened. Once she finished, she took up the clay pot and carried it carefully to the mat, while making sure she had put it in the circle as Bulbous insisted. Now, she had some free times, as she was curious about the destructive alchemy, she watched how the students chosen that were doing. Bulbous was not caring them at all, focused on the tome he was reading. ================== Starting bonus from yesterday: Constructive; +4 BONUS Minipet used: Corrividus Oil used: Green Oil, Yellow Oil, Red Oil

Malodore took its seat just as attentively as it had the day prior - the time spent exploring the Isle and taking part in various activities had only whetted its appetite for more knowledge. Despite not having been offered paper and ink this time, it produced its notes from the day before and continued writing with its own pen in any space it could find.
Clearly this art required patience and proper preparation. The plague doctor got to its feet promptly when Bulbous dismissed them, pondering what fertilizer it should use as it picked out a pot, discarding several vessels before finally making a selection. As for the fuel... hm... it picked up one of the dead corrividuses. It seemed appropriate, if morbid, for the avian-esque undead to use the dead avian as fuel. It folded the corrividus' wings back until the bones snapped, then settled the corpse inside the pot, nestling its seed down into a particularly soft and rotting section that would hopefully be easy for the roots - if it rooted - to work into.
That done, it turned to the oils. One of the oils had a watery consistency to it, so it took a double portion of that one; plants needed water, and even if this was oil and not water, having a similar viscosity might help the plant somewhat. It then mixed in some yellow oil and swished the resulting concoction around in a beaker for a moment before gently drizzling the mixture over the seed.
For good measure, it folded the rotting wings down over the seed and gave it a pat. Hopefully that would provide a vibrant growing space for the little thing. It picked up the pot and brought it over to the indicated mat. Its head tilted to one side as it picked up the faintest sounds... hm. Was someone back there?
No matter. It put the pot down on the mat, making sure it was within the circle as instructed. That done, it bowed to the instructor and went to wash its hands and get cleaned up, pleased with its work that day.

Glancing up at the students who were dropping of their works, the horseman sent out a few moths, making a small hole in his gut for them to fly from. One moth, no bigger than a baseball, landed atop Zurine's head. "We do not waste FEAR. The reason we use them as a base material is that when the creatures begin to breakdown into raw fear, they act as food and nourishment to the stones and seeds. Not to mention they provide excellent materials for a number of uses. Food, clothing, testing... their existence, however meager, is not wasted." The moth crawled on top of her head, bushing against one of her ears. "Think of it like that thing your kind does. With the bottles and papers. Only we use the dead. And sometimes the living. It should go without saying that putting these on a live creature at this stage would give...much more favorable results." His smile was accented by a light clatter from his bones. The sight of one student did make the horsemen follow, watching as it brought out notes from the day before. Curious. Maybe one student had an interest in the art. But- "If it sets you at ease, we kill them quickly. Usually. Often enough. Sometimes."

Bulbous' speech was quite interesting, and again, quite logical. Why do you ever need to use bottles and papers, if you literally have A LOT of fear in the forms of dead animals and such? Leaving them as they are would indeed be a great waste of fear particles. Shenny took a quick look on their instructor wondering for a moment, if he had ever tried to use parts of his own body in alchemy... " Is it possible to experiment on oneself? For greater results? We probably have more fear than animals, dead or alive".

The question sent a moth to land on the ghoul's head. "Well." He reached into his stomach, pulling out what looked to be a rock, veins of gold and red breaking up the grey. "You could certainly try to feed it your raw fear, and normally I'd be happy to let you however... I was sadly given instructions not to let any of you kill yourselves. Apparently your officials frown on self culling." He seemed genuinely disappointed in this fact. The rock in his hand, he gave it a small squeeze before setting it back in his stomach. "It helps with digestion. But your question is better left to another time, as it is a separate aspect of Alchemy."
