You should switch back soon. Stay low until then and visit the infirmary for a check-up afterward.

Caelius ignored the voice from under the bed entirely as Robert's cell phone started ringing obnoxiously again. With another sigh, hoping it wasn't more images of naked Hunters especially many from his division who he really did not need to see naked ever and was actually quite pissed that they had time for this sort of luxury from Some Anonymous sender. He mentally filed a note to have someone lecture them about personal ethics.

The text he got back was something that actually made the Division Leader (in disguise) reconsider filing that restraining order on Clarice. It was nice to see she was useful, sometimes, it was hard to tell with H's pasttimes. Though sometimes seemed to occur much more often than always, but it was a start.

"Everything should be resolved relatively soon." It surprised himself even, that he had the decency to reply to Reine, all other actions considered. There was something else he was missing, a sort of afterthought. "Your assessment of your promotion mission will be evaluated as soon as all schedules return back to normal. Until then you are-"

- Finally it occurred to him that the presence attempting to shift through his mind was entirely wrong, similar a toy car parked in a parking lot: unnoticeable, but also extremely obvious. He froze.

'If you're talking to me, b*****d, I've been here forever, you're the one that needs to leave,' shrilled Jezebel.

"Reine." 'Robert' began, slowly, entirely disbelieving himself. "Did Robert return back to the office?"

There was another crash as Reine tried to stand up, conveniently forgetting that she had been sitting under the bed. As a result she might have been seeing stars when she finally did manage to stand up, and as a result of that, she might not actually have managed to comprehend anything Caelius said, at least until he said her name.

Aaaaaaaah. He was addressing her directly.

"I don't know, sir," she said, somewhat breathlessly. "I was dismissed and came here directly. I can, um, run over and check, if necessary."

The text had said ten to sixty minutes. Caelius wasn't too sure how there could be such a long margin of ETA, but today was really, really not a good day to bargain about anything. Instantly regretting it, he moved Robert's strained, injured body to the side of the bed, forcing it to take one step up. It was worse than when he had been volunteered to test the first prototype golems from years ago.

While Jezebel herself was about as annoying as a very large, obnoxious fly skimming the back of his mind, the problem with Circe was her inherent personality, amongst other things. And if Robert Morris was indeed hearing Circe-

- Honestly, all things considered, it wasn't really bad news. She would like many of those she showed interest in drown him in her song, dispose of him her own way, in her little games, and-

- Goddamnit. He took another step-

- And crumpled onto the ground entirely, the body of Robert Morris entirely vacant.

"Sir?" He did not appear to hear her, with the sheer effort he was exerting to move off the bed.

Never in a million years would she have expected to call Robert 'Sir'. Make that a billion, or a trillion, or even a hundred bajillion. But even if it did look like Robert, it was Caelius, obviously Caelius, radiating his don't-****-with-me Caelius aura, and that was why Reine didn't reach out to try to support him as he tried to stand.

Reine watched, biting her lip, itching to just stretch an arm out to him.. but before her patience ran out, Robert's body fell to the floor.. and stayed there. There was a moment of silence following a sharp breath, as Reine clutched at the fabric of her jacket, willing him to stand up. Should she help him? Should she just wait?

One second. Two seconds. Three. Four. Five. And then Reine was on the ground, pulling Robert up. He was bleeding through his bandages, some of the wounds re-opened, and all she could do was hold him close, and yell for someone to please, please come help.

It took an uncomfortable amount of time before Robert realized he was back in his own body. The sound of Reine's voice screaming for help started out as a hollow, distant whisper. It sounded wispy, echoed, like she was some spirit calling him back from the dead. But a few seconds later, she sounded very real, and very loud.

And very frightened.

Robert's eyes blinked open, and he stared at Reine's collarbone, where his face was currently plastered. He didn't know if he could speak yet, but he knew one thing for sure.

Every inch of his body hurt, and it felt brilliant.

His body. He shifted, just slightly, and bumped his head against Reine's shoulder to make her look at him. He still wasn't ready to speak, so his eyes spoke for him; and the message in them was clear. Hey, kitten. I'm alive.

Reine felt the movement, first- just the little tremble of Robert trying to move, proof that he was alive, before his eyes blinked open. In that moment it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders, and she was almost glad for that other weight, lying in her arms, even if really, trying to support someone who weighed 300-pounds was making her legs go numb.

"You are so ****ing screwed," she said shakily, glaring down at him. If Robert could even see clearly, though, he would notice the tears welling up in her eyes, the way the corners of her mouth twitched, as if she was trying not to smile.

"Now shut up and rest." As much as it sounded like a threat, Reine's tone was soft for once, almost gentle, but she could barely look into his eyes, instead turning away to stare at the ground. You idiot, Bobby, you were always one and you'll always be one, but that's why I--

That train of thought was promptly derailed by a life hunter pushing past the curtain, coming to help her lift Robert off the ground and back onto the bed. He would be okay, now. They wouldn't let him die.

She watched him for a while more, watched as the hunter made sure he was comfortable, all tucked up in the blanket, before turning around and walking out.

Robert's ears were ringing. He groaned like a dying animal when they pulled him back on the cot, and started redressing his wounds, but his moans didn't stop there. His eyes were fiercely focused on Reine, as if they refused to let go. She was slowly backing away, and the Life technicians were closing in on him, blocking more of her from his view with every step she took. His hand rose out, just as she turned away, but a Life technician pushed it back down again, and slid a needle into his arm.

He had something to say. Something important.. He needed her to come back, and listen. Something to say. Something important. Something about Caelius..

The sedative fogged his mind up with exhaustion, and his eyes fluttered closed, as he fell fast asleep.

A few days later, there would be a new division coat waiting for Reine in her room after she returned from dinner: there was no note, sign, stamp, or package, just simply a new coat.

The only sign that it was probably her coat was that the trim around the base was the exact same colour as her scarf.
