"What! Not...I wouldn't- I meant the minis, you said I could call..." He looked at Candace, horrified. The pink clips were still in his hair.

"She-she's not listening to a thing I say. The Haunted House made more sense."

"...What?" Candace didn't get a chance to ask who Tracey was before Julie was grabbing her and pulling her toward the counter completely against her will, which was something she made very clear by tugging against her and trying to step back away from her. Not that it mattered! Apparently Julie was secretly strong. "Who--" A bowl and an eggbeater were forced into her arms and she just stared.

Oh god, I'm going to be sick! Candace shoved the bowl and beater back onto the counter and stepped back away from it, eyes wide. What's the big deal? It looks delicious! Of course Atropos would think that. Candace put a hand over her mouth and turned her gaze to Julie. Two hours?!

Harrison tried to explain a little. The haunted house made more sense than Julie? Goddamn. Not surprising. "Julie, what the hell are you doing in here?"

"Missions are important Tracey, we are wasting precious time, now start stirring the contents, Joy is not going to make itself now." Julie tucked in a strand of her loose hair, and for a second, just a bare second, looked not All Quite There: not that she ever was anyway considering the last time Candace had worked on a mission for Julie, the mist trainee had almost drowned in Christmas ornaments.

The Moon Hunter looked from Candace, still holding the bowl and eggbeater looking rather confused, back to Harrison. "Stevie, did you want to leave that minipet here and join us for this mission, or were you going to find me more volunteers?"

Julie's eyes brightened visibly at the word 'volunteers', missing entirely the half-misshapen minipet on the counter - a cute fluffy thing attempting to crawl away on its remaining limbs.

"Volunteers," Harrison said immediately, edging towards the door. "Candace, hold down the fort and save what you can, I'm gonna uh...go get a volunteer..."

And then Harrison ditched her.

He had every confidence of Candace being able to handle the situation. She'd understand, they were on a time limit, here, and he couldn't do worse than he had been doing. He kept the cage tucked as secure as he could. He just hoped Clarice wasn't in Zaire or something. She'd know what to do. It was her experiments, she had access to the labs, and...and he had supreme confidence in Clarice's ability to fix everything.

He showed up at her door holding Killer's cage. Various gristle and debris had splattered on him from the eggbeater, and the bottom of his trousers were soaked in blood. The pink hairclips were still in his hair. He had a very worried expression. He knocked.

"...Clarice?" He asked, "You there? It's an emergency."

Candace just stared at Julie, blank faced and silent. For a second the thought 'are you ******** crazy?!' did cross her mind but then she saw the look on her face and then...she remembered.

Julie was ******** crazy.

"No."

That was it. Just. No. She wasn't going to do this. She would help Harrison save the minipets but she refused to cook with them. Hell no. She was never doing a mission for Julie ever again. No way. You couldn't pay her enough.

A movement caught Candace's eye and she winced. That poor thing. Candace brushed past Julie to walk up to the minipet, leaning down with a small frown and petting behind its ear. "You poor thing. What has she done to you? You were probably a very pretty thing before now. I'm sorry I couldn't see it." She scritched under its chin and the minipet purred sadly, not noticing as Candace grabbed a meat cleaver. "I'm sorry."

THWHACK! She lobbed the minipet's head clean off without another word. It was better to give it a mercy kill and put it out of its misery than have it continue crawling toward a freedom it would never have. She was glad Harrison had left before she'd done that, but at the same ******** Harrison left her alone with Julie.

Clarice was a light sleeper, but she never woke up very alert or aware. So while she recognized Harrison's voice and remembered to put on her bathrobe before opening her door, the wordemergency didn't immediately register. She greeted the trainee with sleepy confusion, "Harrison, what's... " Her eyes sharpened as she took in the blood, and when she continued, her voice remained soft but held a distinct promise of violence, "Harrison, sweetie, who did this to you?"

"Did what?" He asked, not sure want she meant. "...These?" He shuffled Killer and dislodged a hairclip. He'd almost forgotten about those things. He looked at the pink thing once before impatiently getting rid of it.

"I'm okay. It's Killer that's in trouble. And a lot of your other experiments too, Julie's got them down in the kitchen chopping them apart."

He hesitated.

"I know we gotta go get the others. But she had Killer tied up, and think he might have been out of his cage for too long. I put him back, but-" He held up the cage for Clarice to see. "You think he'll be okay?"

Julie was going to pay for screwing around with her trainee...minipets. Her trainee's minipets. Her minipets. Whatever. Julie was going to pay. Clarice inspected him first, just to make sure he really was alright. The trainee had a worrisome habit of not getting treated until he was nearly dead.

Once she was relatively sure the blood and gore wasn't Harrison's, she gave Killer a clinical once over and deemed it to be slowly dissolving in what would soon be a horrifically painful fashion. Opening her mouth to explain it to him, she glanced at the trainee's expression and quickly closed it again. After a moment she beamed brightly at him, "Yeah, you saved him in time."

She reached out to take the cage and carefully set it inside her room, "He'll still need some uh...science. And therapy. But I'll make sure he's up and about again in no time."

"I knew you could help him," Harrison said, and then as Clarice took the cage, "You hear that? You're gonna live to fight another day."

Killer did look a little...melty, sure, but Harrison wasn't as pretty as he used to be either. He straightened. They had to get back to the kitchen. B0nez was paying rapt attention, but while the kitchen looked like battlezone, but it wasn't one he'd need B0nez for.

You never know, B0nez said.

I'm not going to start s**t, Harrison replied.

"I'll help carry cages, or whatever else you need me to do," Harrison said.

A moment of silence as Julie watched Candace cleanly cut off the suffering minipet's head.

The sound of the head rolling across the ground towards the door, its lifeless blue eyes wide open in a permanent expression of shock and betrayal prevailed in the kitchen, everything else a tense, awkward silence.

"Oh," Julie chirped at Candace, "If you wanted to do the actual chopping part, you just needed to tell me." She took the bowl and eggbeater away. "Anyway, can you remove its internals before it dissolves, I need them for the greater good." There was no missing that crazed expression. It was kind of hard to tell if it was crazier or if it had always been like that.

Candace chuckled and turned a sweet smile toward Julie, blatantly ignoring the rolling head.

"No."

That was all she would say. She kept that same sweet smile as she cleaned the knife off in the sink and then neatly put it away. Julie was crazy. Candace was not going to fall prey to one of her bullshit 'missions' again.

"There they are," Jordan said. "Good one." And with that, he pounced, grabbing for the scruffs of the foxfires' necks with both hands. Who knew that tiny yappy dog wrangling would've been a life skill he'd actually be using here?

The brightly colored one squirmed out of his left hand, but he'd gotten a solid grip with his right; he held onto the blue-grey minipet and scooped it up, automatically supporting its tummy and leaving its paws dangling with nothing to scrabble at.

"Someone get the other one!" he said loudly, then returned his attention to the one he'd caught. "Sorry, fuzzball. In my defense, I didn't think she was going to go through on the skinning thing. You two will be safe in the labs. Candy and attention; almost everyone likes the cute ones." He cautiously released the foxfire's scruff to ruffle its ears, but he was ready to grab it again if it started squirming.

Dakota had only made it to the halls to look for the pups when he came back to see Jordan holding the scruff of the Grey fluff in his hand. The other one though was prancing away which had Dakota leaping forward and using his body as a cage to keep the small orange fluff in before rolling up.

"Got it covered. Damn slippery things." He sighed as he tucked the other one under his arm. "Man...Were not going to take them back to Julie are we Jordan? I don't think I can stomach her gutting one of these again...." Just thinking of the knife coming down with the dull thud on the table.

Oh man...

"So glad I am not in the Life...just what is Julie thinking?"
PostPosted: Fri Feb 03, 2012 11:35 pm

With both pups caught, Eva moved from her guard post at the door, hands propped up on her hips as she glanced between the gray puppy and the bright color puppy. At Dakota's question, she gave a quick shake of her head.

"No. I mean...we don't have to, do we? I like to think that it's usually the Life labs that deal with these guys, so they should technically get first dibs on any that we bring back." Sure, life in a cage wasn't all that great, but in her opinion, it sure beat being skinned alive. Whether or not Julie had really intended on skinning them or not, it still made her uneasy to think of the bloody scene in the kitchen.

Leaning forward, Eva gave the creature tucked beneath Dakota's arm an affectionate pat on the head. "...Then again, Julie asked us specifically to bring these guys back to her..."

"... Julie? The Julie?" She frowned at the name that was mentioned by Dakota, looking from one foxfire to another before her gaze settled on Eva, a mildly disturbed expression on her face, "You're right to believe that minipets belong to the Life labs... And are thus under Clarice's jurisdiction, not Julie's... She's not even from Life, is she?"

She had heard horror stories about Julie. Horrible horror stories.

She had also been in Julie's room long enough to know that she's not normal.

She might also be a little bitter about the whole 'did not complete Julie's mission' thing from when she was a trainee... Although it was mostly her own fault for being too slow, and she heard that Cass and Candace did not have it easy with that mission, so maybe it was for the better that she had missed it.

"How long had they been out of their cages? I really don't want to see them melting anytime soon," She frowned, taking out her phone, "I'm texting Clarice to let her know that we're going over." Yes, she did say 'we'; sorry guys, you're stuck with her because she's bored.

lizbot
Clarice, a couple of us are going over to the Life labs with two foxfires. Mind preparing two cages for us? Unless you would prefer us to bring them to Julie... Although someone here said something about her GUTTING a minipet.
