Yoko? It's great to see her alive n' well! I've never seen Yoko outside of anything but Super Mario RPG, so I must admit, it was odd for me to listen to music that had a serious beat to it, versus the cute, but oh so fantastic SMRPG.

For this piece, I loved the low strings the most, they gave the impression of importance, or at least epic to some aspect. Being a big baroque era fan, I also enjoyed the violin line which was raised above all instruments when it was featured, much like how violins should in most pieces at least.

This gets an 8/10- while the violin line was fantastic, as well as the stings, I felt as though it lacked melody in certain parts of the piece.

While it's certainly interesting listening to this in a room with 2 people who are still a little baked and the response wasn't fanominal.

Over all, I give it a 6.5/10.

I really enjoy the game and dammit if I don't want to know more of the story behind it all >.>

It does have a good rock foundation, but one thing I noticed was the notes in the melody were rather low. In music, high shrill notes tend to reflect the chaotic feeling that I felt this piece was trying to portray. Also, on a final note, I noticed this piece tends to reuse the same melody figure over and over again, in which it was nice the first few times, but lost its effect later on. 7/10

Also, I noticed your comments are rather lacking. Please, if you can expand on your ideas. I want to know what you liked/didn't like rather than what you were doing while you listened to the piece.

Take off From Home from Star Ocean 3: Til the End of Time by Motoi Sakuraba

Sounds like you're leaving home for the first time, going into a spaceship with your companion/mentor/captor/ally to blast off into space to begin your adventure. You gotta close the hatch and power up the main engines before you push those thrusters forward to launch. Go ahead and take a moment to peek out the window one last time to take a look at home, maybe save it in your memory, because this is the last time you get to see it for a good while. Sounds very Sakuraba-ish if you compare it to his other works, if that's even a word. XD 9/10

Very very quiet at first, swells up to louder. The strings and brass compliment the choral vocals very well. It's... I'm not even sure to call it atmospheric or mood-setting or what, but it's something and it's impressive. It sounds like the music set to the opening cinematic, especially with that bombastic ending that the rest of the song builds up very nicely to.

8.5/10. I just wish it was longer. ;o;

and that perhaps the beginning wasn't quite so soft.

Okay, I lied. One more Wild ARMS song.
Into the Wilderness - Wild ARMS (also the theme of the game's opening cinematic. Link is for said cinematic.)

Hey Wild ARMS, one of those oddball games I found in a store one day and bought!

Of course, being Wild ARMS, should've expected it to be none other than western theme, but acoustics is yummy anyway. The whistling was also very nice, seeing as there is a lack of whistling in video game music. It is great to give the strings a break from the melody every now and then! There was a flaw though, and it was the melody that was brought to instrument to instrument. I felt as though it was rather repetitive, and the composer could have done something with the melody, like change the tempo to make it more unique, but didn't. As a result, it had that redundant feeling to it. However, I still liked the melody, better being stuck with good melody, than a bad drawn out one, eh? 8/10

A simple little tune but catchy enough. It has nice instruments going and a simple feeling to it. However, I personally enjoy themes with a complex structure to them and over all I find it, somewhat lacking. It's a short theme, being only a minute and some odd long and I have honestly heard better. I've not played Wild Arms so I can't comment on how it fits with the moment it's used in the game.

As for my previous comment, I apologize, I do. Being in the room with 2 people who are baked with the music not going over well, well, leads to shitty comments.

Back to BlazBlue tracks for me though!
White Requiem

I love this song it's one of my new personal favourites.

It sounds like it would be a good song for when you are fighting someone. I personally would rather have a good orchestral piece for a fight over electric guitars and a drum set. that's just my tastes speaking though. I give it a 7/10.

Now for some Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Battle theme 2

I'm just wondering through the wilderness, minding my own business and suddenly the music changes, I'm being attack by a pack of wolves. They die, the music go's back to normal.

I can't say I was ever that big a fan of Oblivion, I just couldn't get into it that much. So I never heard much of a soundtrack from it and this one track doesn't make the best impression of wanting to hear the rest of it. Though it was good at alerting me that something was trying to kill me.

I'll give this a 7/10. I couldn't really get into the game and the soundtrack doesn't strike me as "amazing" but this track did it's job, and that is to alert you that something is either going to attack you, or is already doing so and ignoring this track if you hear it in the game, could mean very bad news for you.

Taokaka's Theme I love Tao, she's so random at times and she's a great fighter. Her theme fits so wonderfully IMO.

Nice and peppy. The weird clash of sci-fi-ish tunes (with the electronic instruments) and that weird electronic keyboard-ish background gives it a really... unique vibe. It feels a little bit meander-y and I think it could've done with some stronger instrumentals or a quicker pace, but it's still very nice and bouncy to listen to. Presumably not a battle theme.

I think it's a 7/10.

Another fantastic game I arbitrarily bought one day because it was on sale for $20, and the art is perty. Sure showed em' who's boss, didn't I? The average price now for T.o.t.A runs ~$60.

Now, this piece, it is a battle theme that plays after probably one of the biggest plot twists in the game if my memory recalls. Although the work it does not at all portray an epic fighting theme after a startling revelation in the plot at all, rather a pleasant dash throughout the field, it DOES however have good things to say about it. For one, I simply LOVED the opening fanfare of a mix of choral goodness and instrumental to it. Secondly, I said this a billion times, but flute is my instrument, so I have to admit to favouring the vibrant flute solo. Finally, the brass. Although I wasn't thoroughly impressed with the brass in T.o.t.A, Sakuraba is known to work what he is given and bring out some good stuff, the brass in this piece is no exception, it was used to the best it could, and I can't really complain much further.

8/10- Excellent piece, but the lack of matching context, as well as quality of brass hinders it a tiny bit.

Astral Observatory from Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask by Koji Kondo

ALSO, A REMINDER IF YOU WILL: please add the artist to your pieces. I won't send Master Knight!Leaf after you if you don't, but it's just a professional thing to do, as well as respect for the composer. Citing your sources in an essay sort of speak.

Again it's not something I have played but it seems interesting enough.

If I could get my stupid internet to load the video, I could play the song, as it is I can get maybe 5 seconds of this almost 3 minute song.

I can say that it seems to be interesting and it certainly has a large fan base considering over 330 thousand views on youtube. I might look into this game.

From what I gather this is supposed to be used in a battle, but it doesn't seem to fit a battle at all. It's a bit to light hearted and peppy for combat music if you ask me. But again, I don't know much about the game or the history behind it all.

Over all the more I listen to this the more I can slowly grow to enjoy it. Over all I'd give this piece a 7.5/10 It's not a keeper for me, but it's something to look into every now and again.

Edit:
Ach, I was ninjaed! nooo's!

Oh well.

Majora's Mask music eh? I know that Majora's Mask still is hailed as one of the best video games of all time and I do understand why. The soundtrack was increadable, and even though I never owned an N64 I've seen the game play and heard the music before and there are just a few tracks that I really enjoyed.

Now as I have said, I cannot know the context of this music, however it's very calming, very soothing. I rather enjoy this piece. The piano is soft and it reminds me of a Black and White track from Pokemon. I can't put my finger on it, but it's Nintendo, if they can get away with re-using music they will.

I quite liked this piece, I've even added it to my list of calm down songs, as such, it gets an 8.5/10 from me.

Back to BlazBlue once again! It's not my fault, I love Calamity Trigger's music, it's just so awesome to me.

I haven't played this game, so I will go by instinct. From the impression I got, this girl is supposed to be a brat of some sort, mainly from the picture supplied. It started out matching the context, a pizzicato in the strings reflected this, in which being a guitar fan, I simply adore pizzicato in any form of strings, this part I loved. However, it went on to some weird rock rhythm, which don't get me wrong, I can tolerate rock, being a youth of this day and age, but I felt as though it contradicted the whole message at the beginning that this piece was trying to portray of a bratty kid or something. It took a 180 degree flip later on with the electric guitar solo which totally separated from anything relevant in that piece, sort of like saying "I left my iron on" in an essay, it felt that out of place.

Besides the constant contradicting rock, I'd give this piece a 7.5/10, the composer hit the nail on the head perfectly with the pizzicato, but his, or her insistence (from the pieces I rated in this thread) to make everything the same genre in this game hurts them. I can literally hear them crying out and wishing to compose a different genre, but can't.

From here on out, I've made an arbitrary decision to post 8bit music for an undetermined amount of time. If you're not a fan of 8bit, then my choices might not be best for you to rate. However, you are still more than free to post whatever you want.

The Kingdom of Muda- from Super Mario Land by the one and only Hip [Hirokazu] Tanaka. If you're not familiar with the Hip man himself, he actually co-composes with Yuka Tsujiyoko in some FE games (mainly the Akaneian saga ones), the more you know!

You kind of hit the nail on the head there, Rachel is a bit of a brat but considering she's the head of a vampire family and what not she is kind of entitled to it, at least in my opinon.

I enjoy 8-bit music, and quite readily listen to it. It reminds me of better days, back when gaming used to be something unique that you did rather than a standard. Back before FPS's took over the whole damn world.

I don't remember playing Super Mario Land #1 but I do rember getting the second one for the GBA. The track seems so up-beat and happy about things and I kinda enjoy that. I don't remember much of Mario off of the hand helds and this is back before the hand helds even had colour so it's really hard for me to say "I remember this song" and feel all nastaulgic and what not.

Still, a nice quirky little tune I'm giving this an 8/10 just because it feels like a Mario theme, which I truly miss.

And one last Blazblue track before I dive into the 8-bit's myself, though I may go upto 16-bit music, be wary wink

Hakumen's Theme

I really enjoy the oriental rock mix, and that might be because I'm a metal head but it just seems to fit with a fighting game.

I don't play a ton of fighting games...actually the only real ones I've played are a couple from the Soul Calibur Series, but this song does give off that sort of "samurai-fighter" style feel mixed in with the rock and metal. I particularly like the beginning with the drums, which serves as a kind of portent of what is about to happen as in an epic, grueling confrontation. Aside from that my favorite part is the guitar solo, which for me represents a powerful force rushing at you and parrying each blow deftly with their blade. This is actually a pretty addicting piece considering the franchise and though I'm not that familiar with the two composers' works I'll give it an 8/10. I'm also not sure about the character's personality, but I assume that he must be some kind of sword-fighter or fight in that sort of style if he has this theme.

On the mood of battle music I've recently played Arc Rise Fantasia so I want to hear what others think about it.

ARF: Before the Strong One-Composer: Shunsuke Tsuchiya

This song appears mainly before Clyde, a general in the Meridian army and I mostly associate it as his theme, but I really think that it gives off the best vibe of a boss battle before a powerful enemy. The strings in this particular piece are also beautiful adding a bit of imperial majesty to the battle itself. Easily my favorite boss theme in the whole game.
