Arthur Kensington | Pendragon Hipster

[ENTER]

Arthur worried the hem of his oxford shirt before he stepped into the room, overlooking the dance floor on the balcony of a staircase. Of course he'd been late. No one arrived on time to a social gathering of any caliber; his parents had taught him that much after dragging him along all those years. Arthur frowned. Somehow, despite being more independent and taking control of his life (supposedly), he still wound up at the same old charity balls, still bored out of his mind.

His clothes had been easy enough. Other than curling up the cuffs on his shirt and ruffling his hair into something a little more...believable, he felt, for an orphan, he had no qualms about his attire. The pants were, he felt, surprisingly hip. Maybe someone in charge here here knew where he was coming from.

Brightened by the thought of a comrade-in-style, Arthur made his way about half-way down the stairs, watching the dancers with his arms crossed, his lips curled in a slight smirk as he saw several of his fellow "orphans" mingle through the crowd. He'd watch for a while before he acted. It wasn't like his parents forced him to actually dance at these things, after all.

Business as usual, except that now he was maybe a little more excited to see what would happen.

Flo made a mental reminder to personally wrangle the life out of Fat Kid when the dance was over. What kind of lousy codenames were those?!

"I got a fat kid to bag after this."

"Please do," she muttered under her breath. She could only imagine how many enemies that one broadcast had made the idiot. There was Zone, and several children off to the side were either giggling, or had very dark looks on their faces...

Her eyes caught several more familiar figures as they entered the room. The girl with green hair, the... awkward looking one - Avalbane, was it? And there was Damien and Juno, both looking dapper in their own styles. Perhaps later, if there was time... Oh, and the boy with the purple plaid pants; it was quite hard to miss.

"...fine. Just avoid my messy feet as long as you can then...cat food."

The woman raised an eyebrow. Was that supposed to be an insult... or a nickname? Zone didn't look like the type for nicknames to be honest, but they did work together pretty well at that last battle with a certain hulking villain...

"Have you ever danced before then?" she asked, the slightest lilt of amusement tinging her tone. Zone was always so surly, and dancing was supposed to be a happy and social affair. If he'd ever danced with anyone else prior to this event... well it was an amusing thought.

Avalbane McCarthy

xxxxxxxxxxxAvalbane • had just been standing there, admiring the ground most the time. This had given her enough time to step back a few inches and admire the clean ground below her. These shoes that Alex had given her seemed to do a fine job and preventing frost from reaching the ground. They were a little odd on her at first but she slowly got use to them. Her eyes peered up at Theo at one point, just in time actually, and noticed him smile and wave at her. She instantly smiled back, maybe a little too big, and slightly raised a hand to wave.

When he turned back she just kept her eyes on him, knowing that he knew she was here, and would probably head this way.

When he headed her way, she started smiling again, Avalbane was honestly in love with his outfit. If only she had a dress to match. It would have been the most beautiful dress in the whole wide world. So lovely that she would be able to fullfil her dream of being a Princess.

Turning her head to the side slightly as he made his way to her, she couldn't help but find it kind of funny with how fast he had gotten to her. She giggled a little and just watched him. She blushed slightly at the compliment. This reassured her that she did fit in and looked nice just like the others. "Ah. 'tis foin. oi did not wait long." She smiled at him.

Avalbane really wanted to compliment his outfit, she just wasn't sure how to do it. What if what she said was mean or sounded bad? How does one so easily throw out compliments? She had to work up the courage to do it, and Theo's expression was so warming that she managed to suck it up and say it to him. "Oi, um, oi really loike yisser outfit. its not, um, loike everyone else's. oi tink 'tis amazin'. an', an' oi loike dat yer were not afraid ter wear wat yer wanted." She was starting to ramble on. It was one thing she always did when she got nervous and managed to talk. Rambling and rambling and rambling until things became awkward or they managed to shut her up. Which was always a relief. "B-But um, yeah. 'tis noice'." Her cheeks flushed red as she looked down at the ground. It was hard for her to hold eye contact.

Luka Zevachya // Civilian

[ENTER]

Luka had been nervous when the theater managers had called her into their office without warning but when they told her that they were receiving a portion of the annual charity ball's proceeds she'd been thrilled. Their little variety theater was volunteer run and what little money it made from shows went right back into the building for bills and repairs. The donated money would allow them to make building upgrades and provide more elaborate sets and costumes to the players. Plus the publicity would hopefully bring more patrons to their shows. It would get their name out and show Upper Sewit (and the rest of Metropolis!) the great things they were doing.

She was shocked when they told her they wanted her to attend the ball with them. It had been requested that they bring one of their pupils as an example. Though they had other equally worthy students with a wide variety of talents they chose their star dancer, believing she would represent them well in a ballroom setting. She had laughed a bit at their logic. She was a ballerina, not a ballroom dancer. She had no idea how to dance a quickstep or a foxtrot. Even a simple waltz was beyond her experience range. Still they insisted, promising a quick lesson in the basics before the ball. She'd acquiesced without a fight, honored that they had such faith in her.

Still standing here, looking out over the crowd she trembled, feeling the same stage fright she got before every performance. What if she messed up? What if she let them down? She didn't know the steps to this dance, didn't know what to expect from tonight. Her nerves were already frayed with anxiety as is. She knew she didn't belong here among all these rich businessmen and their families. She saw the amount of private yachts floating at the docks. Her family couldn't even dream of rubbing elbows with the people in this room, they couldn't even afford to get her a dress worthy of the occasion. She was wearing a costume from the theater, the heavy skirt and bell sleeves felt odd on her small frame and the whole dress had needed taking in before she could even think about going out in public in it. She was sure that she'd stand out like a sore thumb in a place like this. Upper Sewit was odd enough as it when it came to clothing.
As Luka looked around, spotting small groups of children she assumed must be the orphan's she felt a moments relief, the wardrobe here was far more eclectic than she'd expected, why there was even a boy wearing a doublet and hose! Her own gown was modest compared to some of the girls she could see. Luka took a deep breath. She wasn't going to do the theater any good standing here and staring at everyone. They wanted her to make a good impression and the only way to do that was to socialize! She paced gently down the stairs, smiling at anyone who met her eyes and trying to decide who to talk to first.

KENNEDY OLIVER

Kennedy looked down at her phone, putting it away to stave off her habit of playing with her phone. Though it was better than her nail-biting period, she hated that her hands always needed to play with something when she became nervous. They were like little children, always needing something to do (lest they become the devil's playthings). It was one reason why she enjoyed video games since everything was controlled by the fingers. She didn't enjoy them to the extent that Vasquez did (he was more of a fanatic about it), but still loved to play. It was fun, like winning was fun.

And speaking of fun...

"Build's character?" Kennedy asked, cracking a smile. She couldn't tell if his grandfather was crazy or hilarious.

"I guess we could...find out?" she trailed off. God she wished she were more articulate.

She felt herself want to reach for her phone, but grabbed Vasquez's hand instead. She decided to be the leader, trying not to shake as she led him over to the dance floor.

Tabby ambled through the doorway with wide eyes, reminiscent of a surprised deer, as she sipped in her surroundings. The dress crinkled around her figure was white and fluffy as a pillow, with embellishments fit for a cultured princess. Tabby, however, did not have an ounce of graceful movement in her body. Compared to her sister's swan-like grace, she was like a log.

She smiled, stopping just short of laughter. "My first heroic mission," she whispered, clenching her right hand into a fist and raising it towards the ceiling.

"Tonight, I have a sworn duty to protect anyone and everyone attending this Charity Ball," she announced while she gazed determinedly at her fist's silhouette, its contours lit by the chandelier in the backdrop.

"With this fist, I will purge any evil that passes through these walls!" She solemnly nodded and lowered her hand, then proceeded to lift the front of her skirt and carefully step down the magnificent marble staircase. Click. Click. Click. As she descended, her curly locks of hair bounced and pink ribbon flickered and flowed behind her. Nearing the bottom of the stairwell, she discerned a head of blonde hair and the back of a gray suit. "Tiny?"

VASQUEZ VASQUEZ

Vasquez returned Kennedy's inquiry with a slow humming sound that eventually developed: "Yeah. You know. Being swag and stuff. Character."

Truth be told, it was embarrassing repeating Abuelo's advice and reasoning to others, especially to specimen of "girl"'s. Kennedy probably thought he was dumb, and she'd be partially accurate. Most of the time, Vasquez didn't articulate himself before he spoke, and he'd mask this weakness by quoting Abuelo, be the words of wisdom appropriate to the situation or not. He wondered if Abuelo would've danced if asked to, or if Abuelo would be the gentlemanly party who asked for the lady's hand? Vasquez was neither, so the questioning was frankly moot. Kennedy, on the other hand, was as subtle as ever in her mannerisms. Part of the reason to why Vasquez never had to be the prime suspect in a "whodunit first" was because Kennedy was generally quick to act to the situation.

He winced inwardly when she grabbed his hand. It wasn't a foreign touch because Kennedy constantly "accidentally" touched his hand at the arcade, but the fact that they were making body contact for more than two seconds was something that made the Vasquez boy slightly nauseous. He wasn't sure if he was doing this correctly--he didn't know how to dance, and Abuelo thought it'd be funny not to teach him. In his own childish naivete, he'd smirked at his Abuelo claiming that he wouldn't suffer from the lack of knowing how to dance since the opportunity wasn't one to easily come up.

Oh, how wrong he was. Cruel fate liked to troll. The image of Abuelo's face surfaced in Vasquez's mind: you mad?

Not really.

It was Kennedy Oliver.

He gripped her hand, but stood rooted to the ground.

"Uh. Ken I don't know how to dance. I-I guess we gotta do the 'Everyday We're Shufflin' eh?"

There was a person behind him, one he didn't know. Isaac only knew this, of course, because he looked back just in time to see the person backpedaling to avoid crashing into him. He was in the way, standing at the foot of the stairs, wasn't he? It probably wasn't his brightest of ideas, but little could spoil his contented mood and he murmured out an apology as he shifted aside.

Later conformation would declare that the boy who'd almost tripped over him was the one he'd embarrassed himself in front of earlier, but he didn't know that right now.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to be in the way."

Isaac did his best to stick to the side of the stairs as he did a quick scan of the people in the room. He didn't see anyone that fit the description of his partner and, Isaac grumbled under his breath, it was a rust cravat. Rust looked better then brown. Brown was boring and Mother had always clarified that a person had to stand out a bit at an event like this.

Tiny, though, he kinda liked that and wasn't about to argue.

He turned to look at the people making an entrance, because maybe she'd only just got here. Still, she had to be here, right? Control would have said otherwise if she wasn't...

Gosh, Control. Codenames. It made him nervous. So nervous, in fact, he completely overlooked Tabby until he was spoken to. He jumped just a bit and blushed, smiling as soon as he recognized her.

"Miss..." He bowed and offered a hand-- "...Princess. You look really lovely tonight." He didn't have much for comparison, but she did look nice, really did look like she fit the codename. Neat.

But that also meant he probably just looked tiny and unimpressive, and that was a bit disappointing. Isaac hid it the best he could, instead focusing on the thought of mission. At least if he was unremarkable he could blend in and better stick to the concept of undercover.

Straffe wasn't one for the high-society's niceities-- being from pretty average background himself, but he took the compliment for what it was. Pulling girl's chairs out seemed the right connection for a formal ball, after-all it was the sort of thing they did in the chick-flick movies. "Heh, I suppose it is a bit antiquaited as rituals go." He grinned good naturedly. It was easy to make Straffe laugh.

Then of course, Luna opened up an avenue of arguement, Straffe's smile visibly wilted; he had seen movies, he understood that there were people who had plenty of money but didn't understand the social and economical divide between those in need, but this was a charity ball, designed to help orphans (as far as he knew there were actually orphans benefiting from this event, even if they weren't here...) and to complain about desperate organisations calling out for money and--- Straffe almost vibrated with emotions "the whole point of this event is to help those that cannot study in nice schools, but live in crowded hovels hoping that they can get another piece of mouldy bread from someone who takes a few minutes out of their precious study in order to donate a few dollars for a better future. This event is in thanks to those that could have spent their money on a new dress or another pair of shoes but instead donated to ensure that children could eat or sleep in a bed at night, to help those from abusive families find hope and see a future beyond a death surrounded by rubbish and dirt."

He exhaled noisily through his nose, remembering his cover and his calm, he wasn't here to rant about social inequality or start an argument about the moral obligations of wealthy-- he was here because he was stopping crime and violence from disturbing the wealthy or preventing adequate donations to those in need. Villainy came in many forms however, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." He plastered a polite smile back on his face. "Forgive me, I'm here as a representative of the orphanage, so this is close to my heart."

It didn't take much to pop Straffe's buttons, but moral questions sort of burst in and out around him. How could he think that the people here were even worth protecting when this was nothing more than a chore to them! There were children starving in disreputable neighbourhoods because charity was boring!

Luckily his mental ranting was derailed as the earpiece crackled to life.

There were methods of taking a transmission subtly and methods of acting a wee bit suspicious. Of course, Straffe hadn't seen Anemone enter, he'd been busy making friends with the first person he'd come across (Straffe had a habit of this...) but the burst of noise in his ear gave Chocolate a delighted grin. Oh yeaaah. Where was that Russian now? probably running in fear of agent chocolate- that's where! hahahaha! He would have to tell his young roommate about this later, this was definitely worth staying up past his usual bedtime for! Oh, this was like... three levels of cool all in one. Cool mint-chocolate.

Of course most of these thoughts were not entirely internalized as the teacher spoke; his body stiffened straight like a soldier, his attention wavering to the wall behind Luna's head, after a few moments he blinked and focused back on her. "Uh, sorry... I have to find a sea-flower about a... thing."

Maybe she was right, maybe there were drugs in the drink? After spazzing into a rant, then getting a strange 'mind-controlled' look across his face, he was now abruptly leaving. Or had he been normal to begin with...?

Straffe excused himself hurriedly, leaving his chair with a small dip of his torso in bow and leaving his drink. He hadn't seen Anemone arrive, so maybe she was near the entrance? He headed there, searching for the wallflower.

Theo smiled a little at Avalbane's comment, although shyly. It was nice to know she really liked his outfit and wasn't just poking fun at it as Hack had done over the earpieces, but he was still a little upset at being so out of place with it. It was bringing too much attention to him, and he wasn't accustomed to being in the spotlight like his mother was. She tried, though. She tried.

"Oh, uhm, T-thank you." Theo replied, pulling at the pleated skirt-thing a little as it was trying to fold inward in an awkward manner. "My, uhm, my mother sent it to me. She, uhm, she got it from our, I mean, their, er... the, uhm, opera house's costume room."

It was like a perpetual motion machine of rambling between them. On lookers would stare and think it the most adorable scene out of a PG kids movie. A memorable moment between supposed orphaned children at a ball. Theo would think otherwise, and mentally kick himself for being such a twit. It was ok for girls to stagger of their speach and ramble, it was considered cute. Boys on the other hand... not so much; at least in his eyes.

Theo himself looked down at the ground seconds after Avalbane did. He hadn't meant to make her feel uncomfortable. He assumed he made her feel uncomfortable.

"Do, uh, do you know how to dance? The, uhm, the traditional dances, I mean," He asked because he had forgotten to when they were in the control room together. He had been preoccupied wondering why she had wanted to hide in front of him, and than quickly after the two had found out they were partners they went their seperate ways to change. He hoped she knew how to dance, though it wouldn't be a problem if she didn't. He'd just lead and talk her through it if he had to... If he could remember to.

    'Green hair... Green hair... THERE!'

Finally spotting a blur of green hair as a petite girl walked steadfast past him, not even noticing him, Damien narrowed his green eyes and took in the girl. He knew the alien would be in disguise, but she looked so unnervingly... human. He shuddered on the inside, and nimbly followed the green-haired girl, weaving back and forth between all party-goers.

The were-pard knew he couldn't be certain that this was his partner, but really, how many green haired girls would be around at a ball like this. Yeah, probably not that many.

He stopped a few paces behind her as she stopped in front of a man with a large fuzzy beard. Damien furrowed his brows as he tried to infer what this Violet girl wanted to do. But, being uncharacteristicly impatient, he decided that he wasn't going to wait around to find out just what kind of interest the alien had in the bearded man.

"Excuse me" he spoke cuttingly behind the girl, and continued with a single question "Voilet?"

He studied her moves carefully to see her reaction to suddenly being addressed by him, and tried not to think too much about how he would have preferred almost anything but this. Dancing, socialising, mingling? Nah, give him a forest and survival kit, any day.

DANICA T MOOR
conduit

Dani snatched a snack of the tray of a passing waiter – escargot, as it turned out – and watched her classmates continue to mingle. There was still no sign of Scottie (although at one point she had seen a boy who she thought might have been him, but had proved to be the child of one of the guests). She was just about to wander over to talk to join one of her friends when the well-disguised earbud she was wearing sputtered to life. She wandered over to the refreshment table to get a glass of water while she listened, to avoid staring into space like a zombie.

Lightning [Dani] and Pinky [Nap], your original partners are running late so I'm shoving you two together first. Lightning's got…

Lightning? Really? Well, it wasn’t entirely ill-suited, and she couldn’t come up with anything better herself, so she supposed it would do. Scottie was running late? That was too bad, she had been looking forward to showing him some ‘earth moves’. Actually, she was just looking forward to having a conversation with him, now that the communication problem had been fixed. But maybe he would be around later.

So then the question became, who was Pinky? At least ‘short, tan, strawberry blond’ narrowed the list of suspects significantly. To one, actually. She spotted (who she assumed was) her partner at the base of the stairs, and made her way to him through the crowd. Now, Dani wouldn’t exactly call herself a giant, even with the three inch heels she was sporting she only came in at about 5’7”, but even standing a couple of steps below her partner, she was still taller than him. Well, Control did say he was really short. “Nice glasses.” She said with a grin, tapping the side of her own eyes to indicate his shades.

There is a light smattering of appreciative applause as the last song winds down. A pause lingers while the Nyancats tune their instruments and quiet chatters echo around the room. On the wall, a clock chimes merrily, signalling the hour of 7.

The Nyancats pick up their instruments once more and begin to strike up a lively tune. And all around, people smile, and ease into a dance...

Violet was seconds away from opening her mouth to the bearded man before her, to ask if he was kitty. Instead the hand she had rose to draw said man's attention fell short then to her side and an in almost elegant twirl, which fanned her dress out, she turned at the excuse me. Coming face to chest with a tall, tanned and very noticeably green eyed man. After readjusting her gaze, the brown newly large orbs of the little alien girl blinked in curiosity. Who was this? Was this Kitty? He did not look like a cat yet he knew her name, could she perhaps be confused about what a 'cat' was? Cat's were fuzzy.... this man did not appear to be fuzzy like the one she had approached.

Violet's features twisted in her confusion leaving her looking a little puzzled at the man before her.

"Excuse me." she spoke softly though with a hint of amusement as she addressed the man. Assuming it was a type of coded greeting, however before she could answer to the name, the band had finished up their song and everyone started to clap. Violets brows furrowed for a moment before she to joined in the applauds, the scarf of her dress fluttering as her tiny hands clapped quickly and in time with the humans, her applauds dying down with the rest of the crowd.

Pleased she turning back to Damien as the band started to tune their instruments. "Damien?" She to put the little emphasis to her words forming a question to his name, choosing his name rather than code since he had addressed her with her name, her eyes flicked to the human women around her as the music started, they all seemed to be holding out their hands to the men in front of them.

Hm. Browns flickered back eyeing Damien's hand.

This man was in front of her ...so she should do the same? Violet smiled invitingly to Damien and extended her hand out to him, already swaying slightly with the music. Silently watching him with large curious and trusting brown orbs. Dance. Yes. It was time to dance...this would be..fun? Violet made a mental note that if this was her partner and they did dance, she was going to sneak a rub onto him, just to see if he was fuzzy.

Napoleon // "Pinky"
AndrAIa

((Forgiven XD Mine's not much better. First week of school's got me frazzled already))

Nap landed on his rump a couple steps above Isaac "S-Sorry!" He stammered without looking as he gingerly stood back up. He looked about quickly, it was almost unnerving to realize that no one was staring at him. It seemed he'd been getting a lot of that since arriving and as much as it frightened him, he'd come to expect it of the humans. Nap glanced down at himself, pushing the sunglasses back up onto his face. The holo disguise must be doing it's work. He could move among them and watch without them paying any attention to him!

Nap was startled by the crackling noise in his ear and held perfectly still as he listened to the transmission. It really...did not make that much sense. His gaze flickered over the crowd, picking out a couple of the more recognizable students. Unfortunately his shades muddled the colors in the room. He caught his name, having been called it before though the description of his partner baffled him. A good portion of the humans were wearing dresses and gloves. As for Heels...weren't they a part of the foot?

As a young girl approached Isaac Nap returned to the present, actually taking a good look at the person he'd almost fallen onto. He shuddered as he recognized him. It was the Prince! And now he was greeting the girl and addressing her as Princess! Fear flashes across his face, he knew it! They were the one's in charge though Napoleon still didn't understand why they weren't the ones giving orders. Still, He thought it best to just...get away as quickly as possible.

Nap ducked around them and crossed to the opposite side of the stairs. He'd intended on making his way towards the musicians as they'd initially caught his attention. His path was blocked by another girl at the bottom of the stairs, this one looking right at him. He glanced down at himself again to make sure the holo was still active then back up at her. She had a dress and gloves on and from what he could tell they were the right colors. This must be his partner. Nap's hand brushed his glasses as she tapped her face. He wasn't quite sure how to reply. "Nice...dress?" He tapped his chest.
