You've never heard, "If you don't want a baby, don't spread your legs/Don't have sex/etc."? Those are the most common, and frankly least supported and/or thought out, arguments that the unthinking parts of the Pro-Life side make. It's easily refutable because it makes it sound like you shouldn't have sex unless you -intend- to have a baby, and it even angers other people on the Pro-Life side because it's not like we're all life-long virgins.

well, is it not true? if one is not ready for a child, should they have sex? should a man who is allergic to peanuts go to a facorty making products soley out of peanuts and try all the free samples?

...Yeah, sorry, that's a really bad analogy. With protection, there's about a 98% chance of pregnancy, allegedly. So if this guy went near a peanut factory, just walking outside, so that there was a chance of a whiff of peanut dust hitting him but only a slight chance, that might work.

The problem is, yes, if you have sex, you -might- get pregnant. But it's not like it's a guaranteed thing. And it's not like sex is just for reproduction. That's a really naive way of looking at it; After all, if that's how it was, then marriages would have to be pretty dang abstinant. In fact, why get married at all? Why not just have the government set up little centers for breeding applicants? If you want a kid, you go apply for one, and if you get accepted you have sex until and only until she gets pregnant.

Because that's ridiculous. That's not all there is to sex.

EDIT: Pardon, 2% chance of pregnancy, 98% chance of lack thereof. sweatdrop

I understand what you're saying. If you're going to have sex, you better be ready to deal with the consequeences. One of those consequences is pregnancy. But if you're pro-choice, abortion counts as a moral way of dealing. To them, a fetus is not a person and it's no different than removing a tumor. Yeah, sad, and there are tons of arguments to use against that, but the point is, this argument won't work well in a debate.

Talon-chan
To me saying that "if you're pro-extinction then you must also be pro-extinction-by-any-means-possible" (including war) makes as much sense as saying "if you're pro-life then you should be a vegan and anti-death penalty."
But, I am exactly that! sweatdrop

There's a huge difference between human life and animal life,
Not everyone agrees with you on this point. neutral

That's true, but it's like in math where all rectangles are squares, but not all squares are rectangles. If life is life is life, then being a vegan should also mean being pro-life. However, being pro-life doesn't automatically mean being vegan, because some people do see a difference between human life and animal life.

(I hope I have my square/rectangle analogy right. I always had a hard time keeping which was which straight. xd )

Your square/rectangle analogy is correct.
