There was a moment's hesitation as Circe pressed even closer, the razor-sharp blade slicing a thin, almost delicate line across her neck, just beneath her jaw. Just a scratch, nothing more than a shallow slice just below the surface of the skin, yet it made its point clear -- any closer, and Death would come for her on swift wings. Not quite as Red had met her end, but Eris would be just as dead. There would be no dissipation, or reappearing in Nurse Cricket's office. War had assumed he would not kill her, not here at least -- he needed his map, and with her dead, he would never get anything but blind rage from the other heirs. They would avenge her to their own dying breaths, of that she was certain. It would turn into endless bloodshed, and she knew he was far too calculating to take such a risk. But there it was, that gentle pressure, slicing as cleanly as a surgeon's scalpel, the skin tearing neatly from one end of her throat to the other. And instead of blood, the skin hissed angrily, black tendrils of pure FEAR curling like smoke into the air. For a second, Eris' eyes snapped wider, and she made a startled choking sound, staring at him with her own growing rage.

Did he really think he was going to scare her that easily? A little threat, a little pain and she'd roll over and beg him not to, beg him to be merciful and offer him everything he wanted?!

Click.

War's mouth dropped open, knowing without looking what Caelius had done. Slowly, her eyes left the master-hunter, dropping to her wrist, where the cuff had been snapped back around her wrist, binding her once again. Circe vanished, leaving Caelius completely unarmed and vulnerable, but she neither moved nor seemed to register at all as he turned on his heel, scattering his own trainees as he began to leave.

It was only after he had nearly reached the door that the sound of a scream filled the air, piercing it with pure unadulterated fury. Leaping from the chair, Eris threw herself blindly towards the death hunter, sending it crashing the other direction as she reached for him. The chain snapped taut, bound arm trailing behind her as she pulled with all her weight against it, and there the cuff suddenly crackled angrily with electricity, her screams of anger turning into a continuous, unholy screech of pain. Still pulling against the chain, War screamed until he disappeared, body rigid from the electric shock of her disobedience, thrashing and writhing and shrieking hateful promises of his death long after he had gone.

Punishment..That was not something she wanted to hear. Especially when it was coming from the death hunter leader, Caelius. Remaining quiet and staying clear of the him as he spoke with the heir, she watched and waited to see how things would turn out. Apparently, it did not end as the death hunter had favored, which resulted in him leaving in a huff. But not without informing them of seeing him again later. That..didn't sound too good.

Turning her head to look at Ryan as he spoke, she gave a small shrug, careful not to move her one arm too much. She would just have to get someone to shove her arm back into place later, its not like it hasn't happened before anyways. Thinking over his question, she finally spoke in a hushed voice. "My guess--both."

Glancing back over her shoulder once more at Eris, she adverted her gaze again and followed the others out of the room. Well, that didn't go as well as she hoped. Kat did not like maintenance duty..

As Caelius continued talking to Eris, Tedan's vision stopped wavering around so much - though there was nothing wrong with his hearing, and he winced at the ice-cold menace to the words exchanged. Damn, these people were serious about this s**t. But then ... he'd known that before. It was just a bit different hearing it so very clearly.

Once they were told to leave, though, he hesitated for just a few moments, waiting until the others had gone ... some part of him wanting to make sure they were all okay before leaving himself. So he was treated to Eris's screaming fit while Caelius walked out, wincing at the noise, the sparking electricity, the scent of charring ********. At that point, he'd had enough, the earlier injury plus everything else combining to give him an absolutely splitting headache. He didn't even have the energy for a parting remark as to how thoroughly Eris had been owned as he moved quickly for the door, Ardavan returning to his smaller form. So outta here.

When he made it to the corner with the others, Wilson breathed a sigh of relief. He grimaced a little, adjusting his hold on the unconscious Dakota. Damn, this guy was either heavy or Wilson needed to work out more—or both. Glancing at Ryan, he kept his lips sealed shut and warily glanced at Caelius as he snapped the cuffs back on. “A very valid question, but I definitely would not like to meet both if I could help it.” A wry smile. He dismissed the trainees and once he reached the door, Eris began to screech.

Wilson flinched, his hold on Dakota weakening before he flailed for control of his grasp again. “Infirmary. Yeah, that sounds good.” He moved his shoulder blades then frowned. There would be some larges bruises in the morning. “You two aren’t hurt too bad, right?” Before following the others, he moved to fling Dakota over his shoulders to free one of his arms while the other held onto the other trainee. “Dakota seriously owes me for this,” he grumbled as he walked behind Kat, Ryan, and Tedan.

For just a second he looked back at Eris, screaming death threats and thrashing against the bounds. Maintenance duty sucked.

Dakota was still breaking on the point of hearing and seeing, but not registering.

He felt someone pick him up, jostling his broken body and that was it.

He wouldn't wake for some time, considering the injury. But he had been haunted, by devilish screams promising death and war to them all...

Maintenance duty. Over.

After what seemed like an eternity of silence in the room, looking at those damned white walls, hearing those white walls, Eris felt herself once again, drifting off to a strange state of slumber, eyes growing heavy until the walls themselves faded to black.

When she woke up, she would notice an oddity: the door was open. Not only that, but the shackles had been removed. There was noone else in sight.

Was this their promise of freedom or was it all a trap on the other side? The stretch of hallway peering from outside the door was both long and foreboding.

THE ESCAPE

- Eris must escape from Deus Ex Machina without being spotted, as her 'escort' has kindly never arrived
- Roll a 100-sided dice and match your dice roll to the results below. IF Eris passes out, she will land back in this room at full HP value and have to reroll/try again. Continue rolling until you exit/escape.
- RP out the results of your dice roll as well, though it doesn't have to be long.
- Once you have rolled EXIT, then your char is free to exit and return back to Amityville unharmed, for the most part.
- You have FULL HP VALUE as you start the escape. Please post your updated HP value at the end of each post.

1- 20: Something hisses out from the darkness and catches you off guard: is that an arrow? - 10 HP
21 - 40: The ground seems sharp, spiked, and you trip over the uneven ledging, you could have sworn you saw something curved, the sharp edge of a blade sticking out from the ground.. - 10 HP
41 - 60: There is a whoosh and the giant blade of an axe swings from the 'ceiling' of the hallway, nearly cleaving you in half - 10 HP
61 - 80: You feel as if you are almost there, but in your distraction trip against something on the ground, a dagger embedded into the floor of sorts - 10 HP
81 - 100: The stretch of hallway seems to go on forever, before finally a burst of fresh air. You recognise this place, you are at the Abandoned Town outpost. There is noone in sight, and a portal right in front of you, so you take the exit out... you feel pretty normal, regardless of things that happened. As normal as you can get with those small voices whispering to you all the time. You are free!

Eris had long since gone silent by the time the heaviness began to set in. If the room was bugged with cameras, the hunters would have had footage of nothing but her screaming threats and thrashing against the cuff around her wrist, despite how the flesh beneath it had been all but blackened by the electric volts. She had struggled until her strength and voice were gone, throwing up one last-ditch effort to essentially break the chain before she collapsed into a heap on the tile.

War lay awake well after that point, staring at the painfully white walls as they laughed. So, the hunters had taught the walls to taunt her. Well, she'd show them -- she didn't talk to walls. Especially impolite ones.

At last, what she assumed was the gas began to fill the room as she grew more and more tired, her eyelids fluttering as she let her head droop onto her arm. "Shut up," she finally murmured to the walls, her voice rough from screaming, "You're making it hard to sleep."

When she opened her eyes, everything and nothing had changed.

It was the walls that woke her up, a gentle tittering as they laughed at her expense, giggled words just slightly too soft to hear. It had been so pleasantly dark and warm, that drugged sleep, and she was actually loathe to leave it -- let the hunters do as they wished, they had already won. They had exploited her every last weakness, weaknesses that could not be squashed -- they would continue to use those weaknesses until they had won the war. Better for her to stay asleep. But after the slightest of brushes with consciousness, the comfort was gone. The florescent lights shone far too brightly in her eyes. The tile, albeit warmed by her body, was still cold. And that stupid giggling had broken the silence.

"Do you ever shut up?" she groaned petulantly, a hint of annoyance rising in the last few syllables. Snapping her eyes open, she pushed up her upper body from the tile, lashing out with one arm as if to banish the voices, only a mere candle-flickers of flame singeing the wall as a result. Right. Fear-Dampening. Sneaky. Dropping her hand back into her lap, she settled a little after that, her expression tugging at irritation as the walls continued to whisper. For that moment, Eris sat quietly in the middle of the room, slowly starting to regain cognition, senses slowly coming back to her.

And suddenly the differences hit her, all in a single moment. The cuff was off. The door was open. Snapping her eyes first to the door, then down to her wrist, she stared for a second, lifting her arm to peer at it as well. The skin wasn't black. A quick look over, and she realized none of the old wounds were there. The burns were nearly completely gone, faded from a scorched black to the mild red of a first degree burn. The slice in her side was completely gone too -- the puddle of blood from Tedan and Kat's attacks was still there, staining the tile where she'd been laying, but the wounds themselves were gone.

"Why thank you, Doctor," she murmured, sounding more suspicious than grateful.

Still, she wasn't about to look a gift-horse in the mouth.

Swaying a little as she got to her feet, Eris didn't bother to attempt any dignified escape. Every fiber of her being was screaming RUN, and run she did, ready to (try to) scorch anyone who tried to stop her. Unluckily, it was not a person that tried to stop her -- tripping, the heir of War gave a choked gasp as the dagger was embedded in her flesh, surprise contorting her expression.

Well... she WAS the embodiment of war. It would have been foolish to think she'd have gone TOO long without bleeding everywhere.

Pushing herself to her feet, the horseman pressed a hand to the newly-bleeding wound, reaching out with her free hand to use it as support as she continued on. The walls cried out in protest as blood stained the pristine white walls, smeared bloody hand prints following her like a bread-crumb trail as she went.

Good, that would teach those walls.

It seemed, however, she would not make it far. Stumbling again, Eris winced as another dagger just seemed to appear out of nowhere, tracing a neat cut into her thigh. The fact that it was a dagger was just ironic. An irony that was not lost on her.

"This isn't funny, Doctor... don't make me kill you."

(I almost WANT to roll 60 - 80 again xDD

EDIT

omg.)

This time, when she stumbled, War's heir leaned against the wall to avoid falling to the ground, trying desperately now to avoid the blades that mocked her. The sharp sting against her shoulder didn't surprise her, but Eris shoved herself away from the wall anyway, staring at the crimson-stained dagger jutting from the wall, letting out a terrified cry.

They were going to kill her. They were going to kill her... with her own weapon.

And the walls laughed.

The trail of blood behind her was getting thicker. What had started as little droplets of crimson so dark, it almost looked black had turned into smeared splatters, staining the white tiles. Her steps were slower now, her chest heaving from pain and fear and Insanity, and with every step half-crazed eyes darted around wildly.

Stumbling, she didn't even feel the sharp pain as the ax came down, stumbling again to lean against the wall, smearing more blood onto the walls.

"Aisa... why are you trying to kill me?"

The ax did not return, and Eris felt just the slightest feeling of dejection, the feeling of being completely, utterly alone returning. Aisa had left her, left her in the company of only the walls and the mocking of her own weapon as it slowly, almost methodically sliced her open again and again. Her entire body was covered in cuts now, some deeper than others, blood dripping from each one to leave her almost completely crimson.

The world was spinning, although she didn't know if it was from the Insanity or from the wounds. Regardless, War's heir finally dropped to her knees, her arm buckling as she tried to catch herself. Wincing as her forehead hit the floor, she opened her eyes to another blood-stained dagger by her cheek, a tear trickling down her jaw.

Screaming, Eris grabbed the blade, ignoring how it sliced her palm, trying to wrench it from the ground.

The sound of the arrow was soft and subtle. She didn't hear it above her screams. They continued to rise, sharper and more desperate with each passing second, until the arrow hit its target, embedding itself between her shoulder blades. Immediately, her screaming ceased, replaced by a little gasp, her eyes blown wide as her body arched, rigid.

Exhaling, Eris collapsed where she was, so close to the door, going completely limp.

"Vicky... please don't leave me."

When her eyes finally fluttered open, it was white walls that greeted her. The metal chair had been righted, set neatly next to the table. The blood was gone this time, the tile apparently wiped clean.

In fact, everything was clean.

All the blood was gone. The cuts were gone. The arrow was gone.

She didn't even have the mind to scream. Staring at the open door, Eris began to hyperventilate, shaking a little.

The island wasn't going to let her go.

The island wasn't going to let her die.

Climbing to her feet, Eris did the only thing there was to do. Run. Bolting through the door, she ignored the arrow that whizzed past her, barely even acknowledging it. True to his word, Invictus hadn't left her.

This time, the hallway did not resist. There were no daggers that came to meet her -- they had done their job already, shattering the sanity she had worked so hard to regain. The arrow was the only resistance, and she took comfort in it, Invictus' whisper coaxing her onward.

Eris stopped only briefly as she found herself at the abandoned post, pausing to orient herself before darting through the portal.
