It was hard to keep from crying despite the fact she knew it had been a bad dream. She continued to hold on for dear life, afraid if she let go she would plummet right back into the nightmare.

"You were gone...turned to stone.." Mitsu managed to choke out. "I couldn't help anyone." She never could. The dreams always varied in how things came about but the theme was always the same. Mitsu was powerless to do anything and couldn't save a single friend and was usually left alone.

Closing his eyes, Shun gently stroked her back, trying to calm her as much as he could. When Mitsu explained what her dream was, he looked over at her and let out a soft sigh.

"That won't happen.." he said quietly, "If something were to happen, I'm sure you'd be able to do something to help out."

Resting his chin on her shoulder, he tightened his hold on her.

"You pulled me out of danger when I needed it most didn't you?"

Being in Shun's tight embrace was doing enough to calm her for the moment though she still held on tightly. His words though were only partially reassuring. True she had pulled him to safety but she hadn't be able to keep him from getting injured in the first place. That had she had wounded him in the process.

Almost unconsciously her hand went to his arm where she had bit him, feeling for any lingering traces of damage. "I...I don't...I wasn't able to keep you from getting hurt in the first place." She held on for a moment before it felt like she was trying to pull back. Her eyes looked tired again as she began to rub at them to rid them of the tears. "I...I need to go train." And by the sounds of it she meant now.

The sigh Shun gave next had a hint of exhasperation.

"Look. I've told you already. Nothing could have been done about that. The guy was seemingly vulnerable. What could you have done to keep him from summoning that blue eye thing out of nowhere? What?" he asked, sounding more stern.

"For that matter, I wasn't able to stop you from getting cut up. I wasn't able to stop your mask getting stuck to your face. I couldn't stop a lot of the things that happened."

His gaze darkened some as she suddenly wanted to go training right at this moment. She looked so tired.

"What? Are you trying to be like me and train to the point of collapsing? You look exhausted already. I can see that much."

When he asked what she could have done Mitsu looked away slightly but shook her head. She didn't know but surely there was something. There was always another option wasn't there? Though, when Shun mentioned what he considered to be his own faults Mitsu continued to be silent for a moment. "T..those were accidents we weren't prepared for....we lunged into a fight I should have been..."

Mitsu trailed off then when Shun mentioned training until he collapsed, that darkened gaze making her ears fall back. It had been a while since she had seen that look especially directed at her. She knew she was tired but sleeping wasn't going to help anything and sleeping only brought on more nightmares. At least when she was by herself. "I..I can still train..." She mumbled.

"Oh? What of the injuries you sustained while we were fighting those creatures out in the field? What of the boo that struck you before we were warped back into the house. I should have been watching your back at that point. We were in the middle of a battle field," he said lowly. Shun then stared hard at her when she mentioned she could still train.

"If you insist. The next time you find me with my knuckles bleeding and I'm about to fall over in exhaustion. You have absolutely no say in whether I can stop or continue on my own. You can drag me away and the moment I stand again I will go on," he said darkly, pausing for a moment, "You know. I wonder if it's possible to make myself dissipate from overexertion. I might have to try this out."

It didn't seem like Shun was done listing off all the things that he couldn't prevent from happening. Mitsu didn't blame him for any of it but like her he seemed to hold on to his failures. She was already on the decline to relenting, just agreeing and letting it go but the reaper wasn't done. His words became harsher, voice sterner, he was giving her no other option now. She had hated to see him that way, exhausted and training well passed the point of injuring himself. Mitsu didn't want to find him that way again, though somewhere in the back of her mind she wondered how plausible it was to tie him down. He could teleport though....not a good plan.

Then Shun said the one thing that had Mitsu's heart stopping in her chest. Her eyes grew wide as she stared at him, fresh tears starting to gather. "W...why..." Streaks of liquid began to pour down her face her body suddenly trembling. "Why would you say that?" She finally got out. "P-please don't say that. T-take it back." Her voice was desperate as she gripped his shirt, her teary eyes pleading. "Don't say that again. Please don't, I'll be good." She sobbed. That had been too far.

Oh s**t. Shun could see the tears forming in Mitsu's eyes. It didn't take long before they started to fall freely from her face. He felt his heart freeze up in his chest and he knew then that he had taken things too far. The dark look he had been holding immediately vanished, replaced with a much softer one.

There was also something else in his face. It was subtle, and it was something that was incredibly rare for the Reaper.

Regret.

"I... I'm sorry..." he said quietly, glancing down and away, "I won't say it again... I didn't mean to make you cry.."

Those tears were caused by him. It made him feel incredibly horrible. Looking up to meet her eyes again, he tentatively brought a hand up to try and brush away her tears. As he did so, he soon glanced away again.

"I told you before.. I'm not a good person."

The change in his facial features was enough, Mitsu wrapped her arms around the reaper, though paused patiently as he brushed the tears away from her face. As soon as he was done she pulled him in tightly. "I..I don't care if you're good or not....I just....I don't want to lose you." And she truly meant that.

The Reaper closed his eyes, still feeling a sharp guilt from what he had said. It seemed that Mitsu had forgiven him for it, but that didn't mean he had quite done so for himself just yet. It was possible that a part of him still felt that the wolfgirl would be better off with someone else.

He held her close, and tightly, letting out a sigh.

"You won't lose me.. Not any time soon," he whispered.

"But... really. You've been doing great to watch my back. You've saved my life several times, not just at that final battle," he said softly, "Please. Stop being so hard on yourself.."

There was a sniffle as Mitsu hid her face in the crook of his neck, holding the reaper tightly despite what he said. She didn't want to lose him too, what would she do then?

She only nodded slightly to Shun's comment to not be to hard on herself, keeping her face buried by his shoulder. It was best to just agree least he threaten other bodily harm to himself. Now she was just going to be worried and nervous about him training again. Would he push himself to far?

Shun felt her nodding slightly into his shoulder and neck. He held her there in silence, hearing her sniffle.

"I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry..." he uttered, "Just.. forget I said it.."

It took a moment but Mitsu finally pulled back, her hands coming up to rest against his cheeks. It was going to be hard for her to forget no matter how she tried. Those words were going to haunt her. "Promise me, you'll always come back. You won't leave me." If it wasn't obvious she had abandonment issues before it certainly was now. "Promise?"

Feeling her hands on his cheeks, Shun leaned into them, but his gaze was averted from her eyes in the meantime. No, he hadn't quite known she had some abandonment issues. They were rather apparent now, especially considering the nightmare she had described. It all made him feel even worse about what he had said.

He was silent for a little while there. The Reaper was thinking things over.

Finally, his dark eyes rose to meet with her crimson ones.

"I promise, Mitsu. You will never lose me," he whispered. In the back of his mind, he felt a sort of foreboding with these words. Perhaps it was the knowledge that they weren't quite completely immortal individually. At the same time, he thought about Mac and Lizzy's situation. If Mitsu was brought to tears over what he had said at first, he really did not want to see what should happen if they were to part.

He made another vow, though more to himself, to never do that to her.

"I.. I shouldn't have said what I did earlier. I didn't mean to make you cry..." he said. The fact that he felt horrible about what he had done was pretty apparent.

"By the way.. the nightmare you had.. have you been having that often?" he asked.

Mitsu waited for a response but the pause made her tense. Was he going to avoid making a promise because he knew it would be broken? Her heart leaped into her throat and she swallowed hard against it. There was relief in her features when Shun finally spoke, her body finally relaxing.

His apology earned a weak nod, Mitsu leaning toward him to press a soft kiss to his lips. It was her way of saying she forgave him. As she pulled back she collapsed back into the bed, her crimson eyes staring into Shun's dark eyes before she looked away almost shamed. She thought that sleeping here would make the difference or she would have liked to think it did. Somehow the fact that she still had nightmares made her feel weaker somehow, like she didn't trust the reaper to keep her safe even though she really did.

"I...it's never quite the same... though it is. The scenario is always different but I can never seem to help anyone in time....and then I'm left all alone." The last few words came out as a whisper. Truly it was her greatest fear. Turning she cuddled against Shun, burying her face in his chest, though that only made her more difficult to understand since her voice was muffled. "I usually slept well when I was with you...I thought...I had been sleeping well, I felt like I had been but something changed." She didn't realized Shun had left the bed, all she knew was that her dream had shifted from something pleasant into a nightmare.
