When they finally reached the pyramids, she padded ahead, tail flicking slightly. She heard there was a tribe named Kemet with more of these, but there were a few here in Solarie. She flashed a smile at him as she padded towards a pyramid and began to pry about, spotting an opening to the inside and slipping right inside.

The vixen stopped before climbing the stairs that spiraled within the pyramid, settling on the stairs as she took in a deep breath of air, tail wagging. This was one of her favorite places, she only hoped he would appreciate it, too.

Kiran raised an eyebrow that the size of the huge rock that Viola was trotting him up to. Weird shape. He did hesitate a little when she found a crack and wiggled in, but eventually followed her inside. It did take him a little longer to get in than her though, since he was a bit bigger.

The inside was pitch black to his eyes after the bright sun outside.

"How the heck you supposed to see in this thing," he asked in a loud complaining voice that echoed in the darkness, though he had to admit that it was at least a bit cooler in here.

Viola laughed as he spoke, using her tail to thwack him, gently.

"You don't need to! Not until we get to the top, where there's an opening in some places for light, though that's only cuz the place is old and falling apart. You could hold my tail?"

With this rather sincere offer, she dangled her tail near him, though was sure he would not take it at this point, which was alright. He was a big boy, he didn't need her babying him. Either way, the offer stood, hey, maybe he was scared of the dark?

Kiran rolled his eyes. An empty gesture of course, since Viola couldn’t see him, but it was a habit deeply ingrained into his body by this point. “Maybe it’s different for you, but I’ve come to realize a couple things in life. Light equals seeing. Seeing equals making sure you don’t run into stuff. Not running into stuff equals a better outlook on the day and how my life just happens to be going. I think I’m perfectly entitled to be less that happy about this, so you got no teasing grounds.”

He did take the offered tail, feeling past the bushy end until he got to the slim section, and carefully took it in his teeth.

He felt utterly ridiculous.

“Better move slow, or I’ll tug your tail,” he threatened (warned?) Viola, voice coming out quite a bit muffled as it traveled through the mouthful of tail, but still sounding comprehensible enough.

"Oh!" She hadn't expected him to take her offer! How wonderful! With a cheery laugh, she rolled her eyes and padded ahead, deciding she wasn't going to see if the grump was kidding or not. They walked for a bit, or rather a long time. She didn't speak for once, simply grinning as she padded ahead, occasionally testing to see if he had her tail still.

Finally, they reached a single room. The torches were already lit, but she knew why. A 'Daeva she knew lived here for the time being. They weren't home, but they wouldn't mind her visit. The room was littered with gold and silver items. Expensive jewels and cloths as well as some art were everywhere you looked. She slipped under an expensive silk, peering at him from under it.

’Dummy,’ Kiran thought as Viola took off into the darkness at a normal pace. And he did have to pull her tail a couple times like he’d warned her would happen if she didn’t go slow, though a couple of those times he could have sworn she was the one doing the tugging so those were her fault.

It was with some relief that he greeted the light ahead of them, but also a bit of pain as his now dark-accustomed eyes got struck with the powerful brightness. He had to let go of Viola and hesitate in the doorway, waiting until he’d adjusted and could see before following her fully into the room. It was a good thing he had too, since the light glimmering off all the shiny stuff was enough to make his eyes water anyway.

He glared around the room looking for Viola, since he couldn’t find any other exits, and finally spotted her gold eyes peering at him from underneath some cloth stuff. “Very shiny. Don’t see what use it is though, except to sit and look pretty,” he said, nudging some of the glimmering stuff with a paw. Why would desert people want stuff like this? Out in this harsh world, things like food and water were far more valuable in his mind that something that sparkled.

Her eyes glittered back as he spoke, her head shaking. He was a logical male, wasn't he? He probably didn't take time to enjoy the simpler things. Yes, they didn't serve a physical service, but that wasn't always what was needed. She slunk out from under her little silk hiding spot, slipping onto a rug marked with extravagant reds and golds and purples. Her paw stroked it, smirking at the male.

"They are stories." She responded with, glancing down at the rug. "This rug resided in the home of an ancient Elder many years ago. He was born on this rug, his children were, he was appointed Elder standing on this rug, and he died on it." She smiled gently, leaving the rug and slipping her muzzle into necklaces, letting them cascade down to her neck.

"They are memories. A mark of their previous owners. Every item here has a story. Every single one is tied to a fox and their life. With this, she gently set them down, tail wagging. "Besides. They don't belong to my tribe or me, so it's not us wasting our time. A friend owns these, and he tells me stories time to time."

PostPosted: Thu Nov 15, 2012 12:12 pm

Kiran eyed the rug with renewed misgivings. He wasn’t what you’d called highly knowledgeable about the birth process, but it still didn’t sound like anything you’d want to do on a nice rug. And dying on it? Historical or not, he was quite sure he wouldn’t want to sit on the thing after all that happened! Didn’t sound like the people who had owned it had taken the best care of it.

Of course he knew he didn’t really have an appreciation for history. There just didn’t seem to be a point to it. Someday he was going to get old and die, for even if they had long lifespans their kind wasn’t immortal. Did that mean some future generation was going to find a rock he’d touched super interesting just cause he’d used it to bash in a snake’s skull and save someone important? How silly was that? You didn’t need history to make stories.

He didn’t say any of this aloud. It was his opinion, and Viola had her opinion, and no matter how much they nattered over it neither was going to change the other’s mind in a day and it would only serve to be an annoyance. He just shrugged, and said, “All the stories I ever heard were based on deeds, not objects.”

Her eyes twinkled with a curious glimmer, slipping her small body under the silks she had previously been on. Her head peeked out, yellow eyes viewing the other as her paws folded, glancing at the rug once more. Her eyes flicked to view the male yet again, tail wiggling out from under its binding and flicked, as if a metronome.

"Yeah?" She raises her eyebrows at him, nails extending as she stretched before continuing."And what stories would they be? I gave you one, I love hearing stories, how about you try?" The necklaces she bore clinked as she fidgeted with them, her nails sliding them off her form and placing the objects to the side.

“I ain’t any kind of storyteller,” Kiran instantly protested, yet even as he uttered the denial he found himself going through all the stories he’d ever been told and trying to pick one that wasn’t too violent for Viola to hear and that he could sum up without butchering it. He just didn’t have that touch with words and tone of voice, but to be fair neither did most of his family. His mom tended to recite a lot of stuff with lessons at the end of it and his brother told him stories about battles and stuff he’d gotten into in the past.

“Well, my brother met my sister-in-law by chance. He’s usually a violent guy, but something about that girl enchanted him. They had a hard time of things though. She was bitten by a poisonous snake, but he managed to get most of the venom out of her before it could kill her. Then they had to fight for approval from his tribe elder and that time it was her who nearly lost him since the elder was violent and didn’t much like outsiders. Seemed like they were going to get a happy ending when my brother suddenly vanished, right after his mate had given birth, and had half the kids with him. Sister-in-law waited for him for a long time, way past when her kids had grown up and were out on their own. Then, when she’s almost given up, he came back to her with her three missing children.”

Kiran shrugged, making that the end of the story. It wasn’t really a happy one, mostly just a lesson about the virtue of holding on to hope. His brother was an idiot though. a** had vanished again, somewhere with his sister and other mother, and Kiran was pretty sure this time Ara wasn’t going to wait for him to come back.

A saddened expression crossed her face, nodding gently as he finished. Her ears drooped, eyes narrowing as it seemed she considered to answer. She remembered, on a day her mother felt reminiscent, that she had heard her aunt went through a similar experience. Would Viola? Would she lose everything one day, too? Would she find someone she loved more than anything and then they too run when she had kids? Her tail twitched, and then she remembered she had gone quiet for quite some time. Her eyes raised, deciding to break the silence, which Kiran was probably enjoying, with a random fact.

"I had black eyes that turned yellow when I grew up." ...... Well. No one ever claimed she was good at conversing.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 29, 2012 3:36 pm

Kiran snorted in laughter. His speaking voice was more of a tenor, but when he chuckled there were hints of bass to his voice, like the sounds came from deep inside his chest. “That’s one of the most random silence-breakers I ever heard,” he commented when he stopped to take a breath. “Also a very unusual one. Maybe your sun god took one look at that bubbly personality of yours and decided black just wouldn’t do, so he turned your eyes yellow,” he teased the female.

The color did seem to fit, since Kiran couldn’t imagine such cheeriness with black eyes. The truly black ones were always a bit creepy, no matter what the personality of the owner; the color would have suited him far more than Viola. Of course with two parents whose eye colors were in the yellow family, that was all he was going to get. He hadn’t looked in a while but it seemed like he got his small mom’s bright yellow, a color that was only creepy if it was peering out of shadows with menace. His bigger mom’s yellow was at least a more bronze-y shade and more subdued. Shame he couldn’t have gotten that instead, since he had no desire to live in dark spaces to glare at people.

She smiled at his response, tail wagging happily. Blessed by their god? That delighted her, and she hoped it was true! What if it was? Her tail continued to wag as she approached the other, nuzzling his cheek happily.

"Random or not, I got you to laugh!" She grinned at the male, pleased with herself. She got the grumpy Kiran to actually laugh, and this was a feat she'd forever be proud of. Flicking her tail so it lightly thumped him in the side, she purred deep within her throat as she padded off towards the exit, puffing her cheeks out. So, he hadn't really liked this place, but fine, she'd simply show him the cave! If he even wanted to follow her anymore.

“Laugh? What laugh? I didn’t hear a laugh. Maybe you’re starting to imagine things,” he replied lazily as he followed the female out of the giant construct, shuddering a little as they passed through more of the pitch black hallways. Yup, this would be perfect for creepy yellows eyes to peer out of, all he needed was just a touch of light so they could reflect a bit.

“Please tell me you’re leading me out of here now, and not into further depths unknown,” he asked, pitching his voice just loud enough so that she could hear him and not a confusing string of echoes bouncing off the stone walls. As far as he could tell the route Viola had taken him through was fairly straightforward, but there could be tons of side passages and hallways just off to his side in the dark. He hadn’t felt a disturbance in the air that suggested there was, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t.

After she rolled her eyes at the male and continued to walk, she almost laughed when he questioned if they were leaving or not. She almost decided to play with him, however the bubbly fox reeled in her playful side long enough to assure the male.

"We're going outside!" She mewed, lifting her tail to tap the male on the nose. "What do you want to see? Also, it'll get dark soon, we should find cover. I can't reach my tribe in time, and it gets very cold at night, so you'll have to deal with me for juuuuuust a bit longer! Aren't you lucky~" The cheerful fox slipped under the opening they had used to enter the pyramid, leaping into the bright light and squinting her eyes as it painfully invaded her line of sight. Rubbing her eyes with the side of her paw, the vixen waited for Kiran to join her, tail wagging despite the painful light.
