He stared at the drawing utinsels given to him blankly, like he wasn't sure what to do. He wasn't an artist and he wasn't about to pretend he was such but he had been given an order and he wouldn't refuse. So he did as asked and was plesantly surprised with how it turned out.

He thought it looked fiercesome.

Sugilite listened curiously as the youma began to talk. So they could speak, she hadn't been just suffering from a concussion when she had thought she heard the river creature muttering. At their most noble? Sugilites eyes furrowed behind her glasses. How could she express what she thought of these creatures? Could there be any way? Maybe, if she tried.

Soon after picking up the charcoal stick she was given, her drawing began to spill over the side of the canvas that she had elected to work on. All the youma she had seen that day were there, repeated over and over until they began to form something larger, a great beast curled around the earth, shielding it.

Lieutenant Osumilite followed the instructions well. He decided to not only capture the essence of the youma, but to improve it! He sought to make the youma look at what he feels is the most noble, and that is exactly what he did.

Lieutenant Osumilite was proud.

Call Howlite an optimist, but she rather hoped that the large youma she'd so rudely stepped on would eventually become her friend. In fact, he'd just been relaxing in the river. Kickin' it. What wasn't noble about that? And friendship was super noble.

Her easy-going grin was pleased as she completed her drawing [clearly, the freckles on the human arm captured her own likeness, as well, and were humans the step before youma?], and held it to the light of the Rift.

Serandite had unceremoniously been caught off by some very bad timing and decision making--- but she had ended up here. Drawing. She could do drawing. It certainly wasn't the standard request for a youma .. but .. Well, whatever floated their boat. Serandite had knelt, scribbling furiously, looking up .. and then looking down.

User Image

What an eventful day. If drawing was a demonstration of trials to come, Serandite couldn't help but feel a curiosity for what might be next.

Soon each officer who had successfully summoned up the inspiration to complete their task had stepped away from their canvas, ready to show their masterpieces off to the "people" of the Rift. The insect-like youma led the villagers in crowding around them, one by one, meticulously judging their worth....

First up was Wolframite's painting.

User Image

"THIS... IS... INCREDIBLE!! Look at the colors! The emotions! The destruction about to be wrought on this poor, unsuspecting town! You, human sir... you touch the same part of us that only Chaos itself can... you are a GENIUS!"

Next, they shuffled over to the image Labrynthite had produced.

User Image

"Chaos alive... this is magnificent, other, taller human-sir! You can almost feel the bloodlust in his eyes... and almost taste the bloodshed he has just brought on whoever just dared cross his path! Most marvelous! The Great One ITSELF would be moved by this perfect image!"

Sugilite's drawing was the next to be scrutinized, the small crowd mindful of the portions that had spilled over onto the walkway...

User Image

"Well, you can color in the lines, at least. And there are many members of our kind there... I think? You seem to be a bit out of touch, human miss. Perhaps even mentally challenged. But it's passable, I suppose."

Then it was Osumilite's turn. Would they appreciate the liberties he had taken?

"There is lovely fierceness here, a distinct taste of Metallia's inner fire... but WHAT, exactly, is this hideous blue thing you drew all over it?! And that is NOT how my wings look, you blind buffoon."

It was Howlite's piece that was looked over next.

User Image

"I know what you are trying to imply with this, human-miss... and it is NOT appropriate. There are folk who used to be children here, for Metallia's sake!"

Serandite's paint had hardly even begun to dry before there were youma crowding around it, trying to catch a peek as it was appraised.

User Image

"Impressive indeed, human miss! The fire of Chaos burns in this image as it does deep within us all. It would have been perfect if you had drawn a headless corpse in there. Or at least a crying child."

Sugilite = 5 x 5 = 25
Osumilite = 5 x 5 = 25
Howlite = 4 x 5 = 20

There are two winners for this game. With respective totals of 90 and 80 points, General Wolframite and Lieutenant Labyrinthite are the victors! With their combined bravery, cunning, and artistic prowess, they and their team have impressed the village enough that they've started considering the Negaverse as more than reckless pests.

----

"I must say, this is unexpected," clicked the insect. "Here we were hoping to entertain the villagers with a mass execution, and instead we may very well have found the key to restoring the Great One... only time and Metallia's will, however, will reveal if this is true." It shook its head from side to side, a strange motion to watch. "Regardless... you have earned the right to touch this piece."

The reptilian guards step aside, allowing Wolframite and Labyrinthite passage towards the relic. It was even more enormous up close and personal, and the power that radiated from it was almost overwhelming from this distance. As the two Negaversers let the tips of their fingers brush against its surface, however, it became all the more intense -- the distinctive power signature of a youma, raw and wild, but being directly injected into the space behind their eyes...

Quote:
A churning blackness fills your vision and erases all trace of the strange youma town. What replaces it is a sight even more foreign, slightly blurred and near-devoid of color. It's hard to pinpoint any definite shapes at first because the scenery is rushing by you so fast... you're flying through the air, you realize. There's activity below, of people pouring into houses and buildings in the wake of your approach. You hear screaming. They're afraid of you.

And they are right to be. You're the Great One, after all.

Only a handful of individuals hold their ground out of doors: a smattering of Knights, all foolish and all outmatched. You land on the ground in front of them, which causes an incredible thundering of the air and shaking of the earth, and some of your opponents continue to shiver after the tremors cease. One by one, they charge. You stall a few seconds, savoring the hunger for carnage, and then...

...and then...

The scene pauses, sputtering in place, and it's enough to jar you into realizing that this experience is not your own. It's a memory -- an incomplete one. It's obvious that it has stalled right at the moment the Great Youma was about to unleash some of its incredible power.

But what sort of ability could it have been using?

Quote:
  • By touching the relic, you have received a vision of the Great Youma's past. However, it's incomplete -- right where it was about to get to the good part, even!

  • The winners of this game may complete the memory, and therefore assign a power to this monster.

  • The ability you assign can be just about anything you want. Seriously. As long as it isn't "instantly kill everybody," then it's workable. So try and think big!

  • Please PM or IM me to clear your idea before posting.

Wolframite was gaping when the youma seemed more than pleased by his art. NO ONE had ever called his art genius. Maybe 'nice' in that I-don't-want-to-be-the-one-to-crush-your-dreams-of-being-an-artist sorta way, but never GENIUS! He looked back at the painting he made and back to the youma, wondering if they were looking at a sunset further off from his painting and thought he painted that instead. That was not the case.

He was still in shock after the youma made their rounds and gave him and Labyrinthite the privileged to go up to the Great Youma part. At least the mission was successful. They saw a part and he also had his team back. He also got a compliment that he was feeling a tad prideful about. Maybe living with Billy for a time had rubbed some of his artistic ability on him.

Reaching out, he nearly felt dizzy from the power and wondered if he would be burned. Instead, he was not welcomed with a harsh touch, but with a flashing memory. One that was not his own, yet felt all to real. As if his limbs carried him through the sky. As if his own power pulsed through his chest and WOW HE WAS REALLY TALL!

Just as he felt his mouth unhinge, the memory stopped and he had the compulsion to go Awwwwwww! But it only shuddered a moment...waiting...and then it continued.

As the knights foolishly bared arms, the mouth opened and from it a stream of black locus shot at the villagers and their protectors. A cloud that flew out in a flood and shot out, turning the vision of the knight and his homes black as they were confused by the creatures. If there was screaming, it was hard to hear over the noise.

Labyrinthite could feel pride swelling in his chest as the complimented him on his efforts. So it did look as fiercesome as he thought. He found himself grinning so broadly as they made their comments and moved on. Maybe he was a better artist than he had thought. His golden eyes widened as the youma allowed him to pass, along with Wolframite.

He felt honored as he held up his hand and pressed it against the relics surface and felt the rush of power surging through him as the memory surged through him.

He sneered down at the foolish knights trembling before tasting the fear that radiated from them. They should fear him, he was the almighty great one, a force to be reckoned, something to be feared. Their fear was delicious and it seemed to be drawn towards him in the form of dark energy aura that began to collect, forming into a ball ready to unleash it's power.

He watched as the knights became captivated by their fear, immobilized and he relished his power over them as he released the beam enjoying the screams of terror that rang out around him. He couldn't hear the screams over what seemed to be his dark laughter.
