Kol hummed thoughtfully under his breath. "That's a question better suited for our head scholar. She's more like a historian and recorder of current events. Since she's the first in the tribe in a long time, she got all our history from the Deity we worship. Or that's what I've been given to understand, anyway. Anyone that comes after her would hear the tales from her, so it's less mystical."

Kol shrugged to show his lack of knowledge on the matter.

"As for the buildings, well. There aren't any visible marks, it's all stone. We know it was built by humans cause that's what our history says, and I really can't think of any other creature that would make something like that. It's not a natural formation. That's what makes some foxes edgy. No one in our tribe of course, we all live in the ruins. Newcomers just tend to be a little uncomfortable about it.

Fleur's mouth dropped slightly. "She heard them from the diety herself?" What a wonder that must be, to actually hear a diety, to learn from them directly. Fleur always wondered what a diety would sound like. Were they a loud booming voice? Or like other foxes and converse in what many would call a normal tone? One that didn't grate on the ears.

"Stone dwellings? So, like the dens of some foxes right? The ones naturally dug into mountains and other rocks." Fleur smiled. "The place your tribe lives sounds so wonderful."

Kol found himself having to hold back a laugh. "Not quite," he said, eyes twinkling. "It's one huge dwelling, built on open ground, like a hill made out of stone. It's quite large, since it was meant to hold a lot of humans and keep them safe."

If it had been nothing more than little stone dens built into the mountain, Kol was relatively certain that there'd be fewer foxes who found the tribe base unnerving.

A comical vision of humans stacked on top of each other just to fit in the dwelling caused Fleur to laugh. What a sight it must have been. And the ruins themselves must be magnificent.

Fleur reached down to eat another piece of fruit, but came up empty. Looking, she noticed that everything she had brought out was gone. She looked back up at Kol. "Did you get enough to eat? Or would you like some more?"

Kol shook his head. "I feel quite content," he said, though he couldn't have told you all of what he ate if you asked. "I'd hate to completely deplete your food stash in the name of gluttony," he added with a teasing note.

Now came the slightly more awkward moment; what to do now? Kol was coming up blank, something unusual for him. "Er," he started, not really sure what he was going to say. Some of that confusion leaked into his expression, and he felt it, for he startled chuckling a little self-consciously.

What was it about Fleur that was tying his brain in knots?

Fleur smiled as she got up to gather the items she used to bring the food out. "Don't worry about it. I never seem to have any shortage of food. Every morning I find presents from some of the creatures that inhabit the area as thanks for letting them use my den if they need to." Well, that and it was usually just Fleur eating the food.

"Excuse me for a moment." She didn't want to seem rude by simply leaving him to clean up, though Kol was a very smart fox, so she had no doubt he would have understood. "I'll be right back." Gathering the larger part of the branch in her mouth, Fleur dragged the makeshift tray back into her den, where she tucked it away in a back part. Having done so, she took a deep breath. What was there to do now? She never had had a male over before. But what had made her ask if he wanted breakfast in the first place?

Muling over the possiblities, Fleur made her way back outside where she sat down again in the spot where she had vacated just moments before. She was silent a moment, very aware that she was here with a male. Would it be better if they went for a walk? Or maybe a swim? Or...Fleur let out a deep breath she had not realized she had taken. "Would you perhaps care for a walk? Or, since you had been walking, like to simply sit here?"

Kol pondered over it for a moment. "Perhaps a walk," he said. "You can take me around and show off any really scenic spots, and I actually find talking easier when I'm moving. Probably cause it's nice to have my muscles doing something automatic, frees my mind up from distractions." Not that he was a particularly twitchy male, he was just more a man of action.

"So," Kol said, indicating with a flick of his head for Fleur to lead, "since you have little critters leaving food for you, I'm guessing you're strictly vegan," he asked, voice curious.

Fleur started walking to the east, where more of the river was, but instead of a vast amount of trees, this area had a slight hill with a rock at the top they could sit on and look over everything. "Vegan? No. I do eat the occasional deer if I find signs of them around here. And the river sometimes might show a fish. It flows west to east, but further west of here it starts winding to the north, and up there is where some fish go to lay their eggs."

Fleur smiled up at the sky. "It's mostly the small rodents that stay in my den occasionally: mice, squirrels, hedgehogs. A bird or two sometimes if its raining." And Fleur would never eat those. It seemed unfair to eat something smaller than her. She wouldn't like it if a bear came after her and tried to eat her, so why try with the little creatures?

"So if it walks or flies and it's smaller than you, you don't eat it," Kol asked. He honestly wasn't all that picky about what he ate, big or small. Fleur seemed quite kind, but that didn't always translate into selective hunting; Kol knew lots of nice women, his mom included, who had no bones about making a mouse into a snack.

He found himself quite curious. What made Fleur different?

Fleur laughed. "That pretty much sums it up." She looked up at the moving clouds. "I guess its because I myself would not want to become a meal for someone bigger than me." Fleur looked back at Kol. "I know it sounds silly, empathizing with them when it should be natural to eat them anyways, but I just can't seem to bring myself to doing so."

Fleur bit her lip. She never told that to anyone before, not even her friend. And now she went and told Kol that, a fox she never knew before this morning. Would he laugh at her? See her as odd? Look down on her?

Kol chuckled. "Well I can't think of any living thing that really wants to be eaten, so no judgement there," he said. He gave Fleur a kind smile. "I imagine most predators don't have troubles with what's natural because none of them have the reasoning to go past their instincts, or the desire to do so."

"I suppose you're right." It was just something that Fleur thought set her off from others. The ones she knew had no issues with hunting, some even loved the thrill of it. Maybe that was why Fleur never ventured far from her den. She knew the area, knew the creatures. She felt comfortable here, felt herself here.

Fleur looked around them, trying to decide which way to go. Was there really any scenic spots around here? Well, there was the river. But Kol had already seen bits of it. Except for...Fleur shifted directions. "If we go this way, we'll come to a small cliff that looks over top a field."

Kol nodded. "Lead on," he said cheerfully, wondering for a moment if he was horribly imposing of Fleur. "I really hope I'm not imposing," he said, deciding to put that thought out immediately or it would just fester. "You looked like you were enjoying yourself before I showed up, I wouldn't want to hog your day and be selfish."

Hmmmm, maybe he could do something nice for Fleur then. But what? Kol kept his face smooth while his mind raced furiously, trying to think of something he could do for the kind vixen.

((Do you think we want to time skip and put in the kids in this RP, or wait for this one to be over, decide if we like them as mates, and if so then introduce the kids in the second RP?))
PostPosted: Thu Dec 01, 2011 6:30 am

((I'd say wait and see if we like them as mates.))

"Oh no no no no no," Fleur said, shaking her head. "No imposition at all." Fleur reddened slightly in embarrasment. "Truth be told, that was my first time doing something like that." Dipping her paws into the water yes. Jumping in without a care and splashing around? Never. "The water just looked so inviting this morning that I didn't even think about it."

"Besides, if you say its selfish for you hogging my day, the same could be said for me yes? Even though you said you were traveling, here I am asking you to have a walk after inviting you to breakfast." Well yes, the walk had been Kol's idea, but Fleur had asked him if he had wanted to do something...

"Which was my idea in the first place," he counted, chortling. "So I suppose we can say we both share equal feelings of unimposement, if that makes any sense and my grammar wasn't completely butchered. Living with only one's self for company can sometimes cause a drop in conversation skills."

A detached part of Kol's mind observed that he was probably show-casing his own drop in conversation skills. He tried to halt his flow of speech before it turned into babble.
