miname_sohma exactly. I was at this guy's party, and they were playing Super Smash Bros. Melee, and the guys were the only ones playing, and when I said I wanted to play. They switched from teams to melee, cuz no one wanted to be on my team, and of course, I killed them all x.x And I won by a landslide >.< -- They also seem surprised that I liked Grand theft auto talk2hand -- And I like the Sims, DDR, SSBM, Grand theft auto, Final Fantasy, Xenosaga, and a lot more. I have 8 game systems too, so buahahaha. More than a lot of the guys ^.^ I love that story. mrgreen I once upon a time went to one guy's house and all the boys were shocked that I had only played the current racing game once and I could beat all but one of them. blaugh But they were all such nice sports about it! Don't underestimate the power of a girl! And for those guys that don't, you rock!

Mostly on the sense yes they were brought up that way...an second its the hormones. It could their minds thinkin "errr ...duh...this stuff only us boys will like girls only like them cute things with pink on em!" A lot of us girls are violent too an need that sorta thing >.>;;;
through my years of playing i have too gotten the WTF you play games? reaction. Ive even had looks when i was in highschool an i came to the computer lab to play quake with the rest of the guys or play magic the gathering. hell even walking into a video game store i got looks. sweatdrop
And the onling games i play it still happens but then again you get the added insult of A/S?L or only FAT chicks play videogames. Course the rebound to them we could say oh and youre just one of those men that still live with their mommys in their basments right?

Every time I go into my local GameStation, I get openly stared at. It creeps me out so much that I've started ordering 90% of my games online so I don't have to deal with the hassle. ...and just so there's no confusion, I'm neither attractive nor ugly enough to be stared at, it's only in game stores where it happens. xd

I know, I play games like Dark Alliance or other RP or fighting games, and when guys find out, they're all like 'You play those games? OMG! WTF?' It ticks me off.

I think the sterotypical game is your gory shooter/fighter/racer which don't fit the sterotypical "girl". So they assume it's a guy thing.

true girls do rule but if your a gamer your a gamer nontheless, okay if your good your good, not because you have boobs and i have a well you know, so dont discredit females by automatically assuming every one downs girl gamers its not fair for the girls who know there good.

The question has already been answered adequately enough I think.
In the end, it's just the way things are. We grow up being told that games are for boys, dolls are for girls and all that crap. Less so now I think...
Also, at least with the gamers I know, girl gamers, while a bit of a commodity at first, meld into the rest after a while. Sure I tend to get singled out when we have interviews and such for our college's game club, but that's because people seemed starved for the point of view of a girl that likes games. I think perhaps in a few years from now, the whole mentality of "Girls don't play games" will dissipate.

Swayambhu The majority of men I've met that were real hardcore gamers, also have never had a girlfriend before. There have been few exceptions that I have witnessed. sweatdrop On Diablo II (expansion pack), I joined in on a Baal run with my necromancer. Slaughtered many, did my curses, summoned undead... They asked me to join them more on Cow and Baal runs. "Leik, dood, u rule" "..I'm a girl, not a 'dood'. e_e;" "omg ur kidding. grlz play on Diablo!?!?1" "Er..I should hope so. I'm sure I'm not the only girl here. neutral " "o, ok...a/s/l?" "......" So yeah. confused It..really bothers me when guys a/s/l me, too. stare >.< I hate it when people do the "a/s/l" thing! That's so annoying! I try to find a decent chat and I can't diccern a conversation through all the "a/s/l"s! Stupid horny sons of b****es need to find a life! scream stressed >.> sweatdrop Sorry... I needed to rant for a moment.

There arent many female gamers around me, or at least not many that I know of.
Most guys that are my friends are very comfortable with the idea of a female gamer, just because they know a few of them.
But you go ask talk to one of the more 'stereotypical' guys (the ones that play football and eat chips noisily all class and talk loudly) and they go 'Homg WHAAAAAA???'
Its mostly around the older male gamers that females get this reaction, I think.
Like, I walk into my local GW (Games Workshop...store where Warhammer is sold. Dont know what it is? Look it up. I aint explaining it again.) where guys play every friday/hang out.
I wander in, look at the Eldar stuff, wander over to the counter with a couple of Wraithguard and a jetbike and they look at me, sigh, and the whole speech all over again..."Now, you'll need some primer, paints, a codex, glue...are you sure you want this?"
They look so surprised when I tell them I play.
Its taken awhile, but after a few months I think I have them believing I know what I'm doing...although I dont ever think I'll get their respect.
I would LOVE to find other girls to play WH40k with.
ANYWAY.
Its just because its been hardwired into them since childhood that girls dont do boy things and videogames have been classified (however long ago) as boys toys.
