"Ha, ha, looks like this one has a good sense of humor!" I practically shout, I calm myself once more. "Don't worry, Carolyn, The joke won't always be played on you."

I ignore Steve's statement as I am completely focused on my book.

He would put his head where the book was"You know ignoring some one isn't gonna solve your shyness problem Carolyn."he would say as his tail would wag and him smiling really wide.

"I...I know..." I say glancing away from him and frowning. I put the book away and look over at the grizzled man. "Can we please get this over with?" I ask him, looking around uncomfortably.

He looks over to Carolyn. "Very well. People around here call me Payne, Major Payne. I'm in charge of organizing the newbies and finding out were they should be put. This here is Steve" he says, pointing at Steve. "You'll be working in his unit. Lucky for you, we've got a mission for you." He pulls out a map that covers quite a large area on the surface. The location of the camp is labeled roughly in the center. He points to a what appears to be a large industial area in the north-northweat direction of the camp. "We got word that there's some pretty interesting stuff over in this area. I want you to scout out the area, and record anything you fine. Should be simple."

I look at the map intently and nod as Major Payne explains what we will be doing. "Understood." I say tersely.

Payne looks at all of you, addressing Steve's question. "This is a test for you guys. The only help you'll be getting is from Steve's expertise, the map, and your own instinct. Also, you guys get the Snail for this." He says, tossing Steve an electronic key. From experience, you know that the Snail is actually a heavily armored recon vehicle that moves pretty fast. The only person who really understands the name is the engineer who takes care of it. Everyone else just tends to smile and nod...
