As Tanuri began moving to a new location--even farther away from the cubs and...rodents...--he caught movement in his peripheral vision and instinctively turned his head to see what it was. He saw that the white lioness had found another necklace and was smiling at him. Tanuri almost smile back, but held his face stiff just in time to see the lioness lose her smile and quickly move in another direction.
Drat, had he upset her...? Or did she move away because of something else? Ugh, being social was so difficult. At least, that's what he told himself.
Eyes narrowing with grumpiness at his folly, the male took up digging some more in an attempt to relocate his thoughts to happier things. Like treasure.
Feeling something within his grasp, the lion pulled up the object and dropped it. It was...another old, crusty box. Teeth grinding in frustration at perhaps more than his finding, the male violently swatted the box away and stomped to a new location.

Soon enough her sharp little claws scrapped along something far harder than the sounding mud and dirt. With an extra surge of effort she managed to hook the object with one paw and pull it free. A quick rub with the back of her wrist revealed her first piece of treasure...
A glittery stone! Grinning from ear to ear she tared happily at her prize. It was worth the effort of getting it free! Maybe she could get someone to string it into a necklace for her to wear, it was super pretty and as yet she hadn't really found anything for decoration amid the sand and rocks of their pride. Bones were all very well and good, but they were fairly common and she didn't want something made of only bone. This was perfect!
Finally she carefully set her stone beside her and turned back to her shallow hole. If she had found something so pretty here, surly there were more just below the surface. With renewed exuberance, she plunged her head back amid the mud and set to digging again, not realizing that she was sending out a spray of clod up behind her and all over a neighboring lion.

Meeper found himself suddenly being showed back in mud. He squeeked and moved out of the way. Clearly he wasn't the only one who liked to dig. He watched the little lion digging. His tail twitched, and he wiped dirt off his face. Should he keep digging or go find somethign else to do?

Momo had distanced herself several strides away from the red male lion, feeling irritated and confused with herself, and ever aware of the dryness in the back of her throat. It was easy for her to speak to her fellow pride members, but something about being caught off-guard for something she had not fully intended to do had put her in a strange mental place.
Suddenly it seemed to be raining dirt and sand and the lioness winced her eyes shut and snorted. When the rain stopped, she turned her head to see a small lioness--probably of juvenile age--digging just behind her. Momo sighed and smiled faintly, shaking her head before she moved a few more paces away so that she wouldn't kick dirt up on the young female when it was her turn to dig.
Paws clutching and digging away at the dirt and sand, Momo's paws hooked something and she pulled it to the surface.
Another necklace.
Something in the lioness's chest swelled and she narrowed her eyes, pulling her find over her head with hesitance.

Her next treasure took a little longer to find as the hole she had started to make grew weak from the water that welled up from below. Twice the sides collapsed inwards, forcing her to dig out all the loose mud, te second time she realised the problem and made sure o clear the pile away from the edg of her hole, spending quite some time scrapping the muck away to one side and patting it down carefully. By the time she as done with organizing her pile she was coated in thick grey silt from paws to shoulder and her rear end was speckled with dark grey lumps.
Pausing to wipe her cheek on her knee she grinned at her treasure placed carefully to one side. After a moment she turned back to her hole, claws scratching franticly as she resumed her self-given task with an almost scary focus. Then her claws caught on other hard edge and she beamed, hurrying to clear the muck away and reveal her new find. With a triumphant yelp she tugged the stone free and placed it to the side of her hole, carefully scraping the clumps of mud from it until she realised that it was another shiny stone. Grinning he nudged it across with her nose to where the first sat. She would certainly have to find someone to make it into a necklace for her, they were so pretty it would be a shame to not show them off!
Hoping to find a third, he resumed digging, bright eyes attentive as the mud flew.

During a break in her nanny duties, Moja entertained the thought that digging around the dried-up oasis would be a good way to pass the time. She wasn't really sure what to be looking for, but it looked as though everyone else who was going at it was just finding one thing after another. With her little snake familiar, Ayo, curled loosely around her neck, she began digging. Her big paws turned the dirt and the further down she went, she found the dirt got darker and cooler and a little bit wetter. Of course there was no water down there, but it was more like mud or wet sand. Nothing that one could draw water from. Having complained of the heat earlier, probably mostly due to his black body, Ayo snaked his way down Moja's leg and burrowed into the dirt near where Moja was digging. She carefully dug around her little friend, but when he called out, she stopped. "Hey! I found something!"Moja stopped digging and turned to see what her little friend had found. He had intertwined himself in a golden statue-like... thing. Moja tilted her head and leaned in to examine it, Ayo freeing himself and crawling back up her neck, she pulled it out of the dirt and sat back on her haunches to use her front paws to dust it off.
"Huh. How strange." She took it to the black lioness to see if it was a good find. (( xD Tan got the one I wanted so I'll take this bird, #3, please.))

This time it wasn't long before her claws found another object, though it was stuck fast in a lump of harder clay-like mud. Though getting the large lump of clay out of the ground was easy, it took her a long time of careful scratching and pushing before the bulk of it was cleaned away. That left a thick layer of muck round her prize and she almost resorted to licking it as she struggled to reveal what the item had been. But eventually the first glimmers of metal peeked through and what she saw made her stop and stare. It was a rune, there was no doubt about it... but what did it mean? Completely bemused by the object she poked and prodded i for a long while, turning it over, moving it about this way and that and looking at it from all angles. Eventually she had to admit that she was at a loss, but she was fairly sure there was someone who would be able to help her... one of the Hongshan would no doubt know its meaning, but then... would she dare risk going to find out?
Puzzled by the problem posed by the rune, she carefully nudged it over to sit beside her two shiny stones. She would think about it and maybe ask her ma for advice. But for now she would keep it, at the very least it would make a pretty centerpiece for her growing necklace. Turning back to her hole she resumed her digging, slower now, more careful about missing anything in the mud.

Growing increasingly frustrated by finding the same types of trinkets over and over again, Tanuri was feeling particularly sour as he dug another hole. This time he didn't find anything, so he moved a few paces away. He had somehow become completely removed from the group of others. He was alone at the edge of the oasis.
Well, it was nothing new. It always ended up like that. He did it to himself...
Glaring at a wet patch of sand, the lion pulled up heaps of earth. Something smoothed touched his pad. He tried clawing at it, but nothing would hook. So he cradled it in his paw instead. When the item came to the surface, Tanuri saw it was an egg. Mouth open and eye narrowed, the male looked on in puzzled disgust. Judging by the weight, it was full. But of what, Tanuri did not want to know...

Her slower approach paid off as almost immediately, she felt another object under her paws, this one was far easier to get free and almost instantly she recognized it for yet another rune. After carefully cleaning it she moved it next to her growing hoard of items and stared at the two runes. What did they mean? She wasn't an overly superstitious lioness but even she had to pause and contemplate the pair of symbols. But she knew she had no hope of understanding them and soon enough she returned to her digging, paws methodically going through the mud as she dug it free, pushing the excess to one side and every so often carefully patting the growing mound down beside her in order to avoid another collapse.

Meeper gave himself a shake. There was nothing here. Getting bored he started darting around between the legs of other diggers. He had no problems nosing around and see what others were getting into. Mostly it looked like lots and lots of dirt. Mud really. Not super squishy mud, but clingy stuff.
He noticed a large pile of loose mud a large lion had dug up. Any food in there would be mega easy to find and grab. Meeper ran over and started to burrow into the loose dirt. It was so nice of the lion to help him.

Her forelimbs were growing tird and she paused a little while to take a break and rest her muscles. She was not used to digging for this long or in this thick muddy ground. The most digging she ever did normally was int he sand after small rodents and burrowing snakes, a lot of effort but they were so tasty it was usually worth it.
During one of her breaks the side of her hole broke apart and a tiny avalanche caved in, with an annoyed sigh she stood and was about to clear it away when something caught her eye. It was shiny and glittered a pale yellow under the much that coated it. Curious she carefully teased it free, only to find the gold decoration was attached to a line of feathers. It took a while but finally she freed the whole thing from the mud and lifted it free, laying it beside her small hoard. With a grin she realised it was an ancient necklace! It would go perfectly with her stones and the runes!! What a lucky day this was turning out to be!
After admiring it for a short while she turned back to her hole, now enlarged thanks tot he digging she had done to free her newest treasure. With renewed energy, she resumed digging.

Finally.
He had arrived.
He'd heard the rumors, so many whispers about the treasures that just lie in wait for his itty bitty little paws to swipe! Now as he stood at the wide gap of land before him, his hands began to twitch in excitement at the all too many hopes he had for this very promising venture.
It wouldn't be easy, but then again, what ever was?!
Shrugging his shoulders the small filthy rat skittered across the sands, his eyes scanning the ground for even the smallest hint of an underlying treasure.
It wasn't long before the unrelenting scans, paid off.
"Jackpot."
The words hardly had time to escape his mouth before the rat's tiny paws began flinging the sand in every possible direction, his eyes on the prize.

This time it wasn't the colour that gave away the newest find, but the sheer hardness of it as it snagged her claws painfully. Yelping she pulled back and examined her paw, but there was no blood so she turned her attention to her pit, eyes narrowing as she squinted, trying to find what it was that had hurt her. Unable to see anything she gingerly resumed digging, scrapping at the muddy surface carefully. Finally she felt the hard object and spent the next little while slowly digging around it. It took all her strength to tug the thing free and she nearly fell over on her backside when it came free with a wet plop.
Tugging it over to her pile she scrapped the muck from it and frowned. it was a flat stone piece. About to toss it away she turned it over and gasped in surprise. it had writing on it! Of course she couldn't understand it, but her heart skipped a beat. Maybe it was something reeeeealy old! Grinning she pushed it back with her pile and snorted, rather pleased with herself.
Turning back to her hole she decided to start digging away one side, the pit was getting deep and water was collecting in the bottom, making it hard to see.

Creating a clinking chorus with every step due to her set of bone-decorated necklaces, Momo eyed the others who were all busy in their tasks. Strange how one lioness's hobby had so easily been accepted by so many pride members; not only accepted, but embraced.
Even Momo, who was never outwardly eager to participate in such things (call it shyness or pride, she would never admit to either) was enjoying herself. She was actually...entertained. What's more, it was very easy for her to focus on other things when she was busy finding trinkets. When she was keeping busy, her over-thinking mind became more focused, which made the lioness a great deal more relaxed. But there was one thing preventing her from true contentment at that time, however...
Gold eyes flicking just for an instant away from the ground, Momo caught sight of the red male lion on the very other side of the oasis, all by himself. He was farther away from the group than anyone, and Momo wondered why. Had she made him upset? She really didn't understand why she had been so quick to turn away rather than keep her smile. She felt she had to change things somehow. She would...go over there and introduce herself. She was seriously tough, she could definitely do that with no problem whatsoever.
But first, she had to pull up whatever her paw just hit...
...Another necklace...
Looking pensive, the female bent down and placed the jewelry between her teeth. Pausing in place for a moment to take a breath, the lioness turned and made her way towards the red male.
