(Hey that's fine by me)

Violet followed Makani under to their shelter. She was grateful that he knew what he was doing. Another crack of thunder made her shudder. She wrapped her tail about herself and shivered once. She did like light mists and warm rain, but thunder and lightning were different beasts’ altogether. Her hair flopped down in front of her face and hid her eyes which were wide with worry. What if there were lightning and fire.
Violet’s ears dropped on either side of her head until one could swipe a paw across her head and not touch either ear. She did her best not to shiver anymore since she didn’t want to worry Makani. He was so nice and kind to her so far. Even though Violet worried about his sister and if she were ok, she was glad that Makani was taking care of both of them.

Had they been separated when the storm hit Violet was sure she would have curled up and cried, she couldn’t do that in front of Makani though. It just wouldn’t be right. “I’m sorry.” Violet peeked out from under her fop of hair. “I know we should be worried about your sister and finding her, but I’m glad you found us shelter.”

Makani shook his head, peering up from under their shelter at the clouds overhead; fat, violently gray stormheads were drifting past, and doubtless they'd unleash their burden of rain soon. "Miliani can look after herself, I'm not worried about that. Of course I'd feel better being with her to make sure she doesn't do something stupid, but no use fretting about what I can't do right now."

It probably helped that Violet was here. If he'd been alone Makani would have most certainly fretted thoroughout the entire storm, possibly even trying to continue looking for his sister. He could see the approaching weather clearly had Violet shaken though, much as she tried to hide it, and it made his first priority to try to keep both of them safe.

“Something stupid? What would she do that would be stupid?” Violet crept over to where Makani was slowly. She made sure to keep some distance between them since she did not wish to infringe upon his personal space. Just being closer to Makani made her feel better. From this new position however Violet could see out of her shelter so when lightning illuminated the sky she could see the flash and the way all the plants and trees lit up.

She dropped to her belly and placed her paws on either side of her ears in order to avoid hearing the thunder. It didn’t really work of course, but it was an automatic reaction. She blushed as she realized how silly she must look in front of Makani. “I don’t like storms like this. I’m used to snow or rain, but not lightning. Sorry.”

Makani had been about to reply to Violet's question when she had her "paws over ears" fit in an attempt to block out the thunder. He sat there, waiting for the noise to die out and flicked his tail in a vaguely restless gesture. Violet came back up and made her apology, which Makani brushed aside, waving a paw in the air as though he were literally moving them away.

"It's alright, though I imagine storms would be pretty bad in the mountains since they seem to gather there. You wouldn't want to live near oceans if stuff like this bothers you."

He looked back up at the sky, expecting it to pour at any moment. "As for your question, well. Mili is reckless sometimes. Impulsive. I worry that someday she'll go charging out into a situation that's just too much for her to handle." Right as Makani finished speaking, the first, fat drops of rain came down from the sky.

“Wind. There’s lots of wind in the mountain storms. Sometimes you can’t hear or see anything else through the wind and snow. There are some thunderstorms, but it’s not as often.” Violet was glad that Makani hadn’t laughed at her. She would have been mortified if he had. Still what said about the ocean made her wonder. “Are there stroms like this often near the ocean? Are they always as scary?” She made a small noise without meaning to. The rain started to strike their shelter and Violet moved closer to Makani. They were nearly touching.

She laughed softly. “If your sister is as capable as you then I don’t think you need to worry.”

Makani snorted. "That girl's a force of nature," he said. "If you could get through life through sheer determination then I'd never have to worry about her. Stubborn doesn't even begin to describe her."

He tilted his head back to stare up at the top of the trees as the downpour of rain slammed down. It was raining hard enough that the water would probably start to leak through, but it would be that way just about anywhere else so they might as well stay here. It would be drier than most.

"Hmmmm. Well there tends to be a lot of rain around oceans, with all the water around, but not all storms are quite so powerful. The ones that are though," he said thoughtfully, trailing off as he remember one huge storm he and Miliani had weathered through. Hurricane was the human word for it, he believed.

Violet smiled a bit. It was nice to hear that Makani thought of his sister as being so strong. Was it just her or was there a trace of pride in Makani’s voice? He was such a strong and kind fox. It was enough to distract her from the storm for a moment.

The talk of storms elsewhere brought her back though. Shivering she wondered what it was like to be in a place with so much water and have a storm hit. She could almost seen the wind carrying the rain at an unreal angle as it sometimes happened with snowstorms. The way the greenery would bend double and the terror of being washed away out to sea where huge creatures waited that could eat a fox whole. She swallowed her mouth suddenly dry. She supposed if she lived in such an area that she would be used and prepared for such things. “I suppose I would find a temperate spot to live then.”

Makani looked down at Violet and smiled slightly. "Well I don't think it matters particularly where you live. Cold oceans get just as many storms as warm ones, all in varying degrees of intensity. Since it doesn't matter though, I'd rather live somewhere warm," he said, chuckling at the last bit.

Overhead a brilliant flash of lightning forked across the sky, followed instantly by a boom of thunder so loud Makani felt the ground vibrate beneath him. He winced, ears going down in an attempt to protect them from the sound.

“Ah no I meant a place more steady in it’s weather patterns. Not to cold in winter and not to hot in summer. That way even if I were separated from others in a storm that I wouldn’t freeze or roast all alone.” Violet amended her words from before and hoped that it made sense to Makani.
As soon as the thunder hit Violet didn’t wrap about Makani as much as she was shocked when she suddenly found herself pressing up against the male in less than a heartbeat. She was surprised but was too scared to move and end up rubbing against Makani more.

Makani looked down in surprise at Violet, but waited until the thunder completely died down before he said anything. Odd, but in most situations he would pull away slightly and mutter about how his coat was being mussed up. Even with Miliani, if he didn't pull away at least he still complained about his fur. Very odd indeed.

He decided to just continue on with the conversation as though nothing had happened. No point in mentioning something he wasn't sure of, after all. "Ah yes, I can see your point. Well warm, tropical weather might take some getting used to. The air is a lot warmer than it is here, and it's quite humid. You might not find it to your liking at first."

Absolutely mortified with herself Violet couldn’t bring herself to move at all. Not even to let go of Makani. If she moved she’d jostle more of his fur and this situation was already embarrassing enough without rubbing again him more. She tried hard not to breath but after getting dizzy her body forced her to settle on slow shallow breaths.

Well Makani started to speak again she resisted the urge to nod her head still pressed up against him as she was. “I see. So it’s not the heat but the humidity that will get to you the most if you live there?” How long did it take to get used to a place? For Violet who had grown up amongst the mountains all her life she really wasn’t sure.

Makani nodded his head. "It's a combination, really, but the humidity tends to hit worse. You can come from a hot climate, but if it was a dry one you could step into a humid climate and it would feel horribly uncomfortable to you even if you'd normally consider the temperature not that big a deal." Makani shrugged, and as he did so he was very aware of just how much of Violet's body was in contact with his. "Not sure why it's like that, it just kinda is."

“I see. That’s definitely something to keep in mind.” Makani’s shrug made his fur rub up against Violet’s own and she blushed. She could hear a heartbeat but wasn’t sure if it was her own or Makani’s thudding. The rain continued to thrum against their shelter and the ground. It was so very loud, much like the heart thumping in Violet’s ears. Makani was big and warm, and most of all solid. Violet felt so small next to him. She wondered just what her mother would think of the situation her daughter was in now.

Makani chuckled deep in his throat. "Well if you're serious about letting me show you around an ocean, you'll get a chance to see for yourself," he said. He wrinkled his face in distaste for a moment as a drop of water fell from their shelter and dripped on his nose. Drat, looked like the canopy was soaking through! Well he and Violet wouldn't get soaked at least, but they probably wouldn't come out of this totally try either. Disadvantage to trees, but better than caves if there were mud slides or floods.

“Y-Yes. Alright. I suppose I’ll understand better after you show me.” Unable to see Makani’s face from her current vantage point Violet had no idea the canopy was in danger. A single cold drop dropped and hit her shoulder. The shock of it made her twitch involuntarily and this caused friction with Makani’s fur. Violet let out a stifled gasp. She hadn’t meant to do that. She hoped that Makani wouldn’t be mad at her. He hadn’t said anything so far. He could have called her a strumpet or something of the like, but he didn’t.

(Strumpet? strumpet? How did i come up with that?... *stares at family line* Oh duh! Anila says dearie and things of the like so wouldn't her granddaughter have weird words like that pop into my head?)
