Ice Queen

You've been prompt'd!!

Prompt
For the past few days, Cat's been getting strange, misspelled letters left at his bedroom door. They don't seem to be love letters, in fact, they're often misquotes from old novels, but all are addressed to him. What does Cat do?

Write out a solo depicting Cat's reaction to the letters and tell us what they're about/where they came from!

"Toby, or not Toby,"

Cat eyed the letter in his hand with scrutinizing white orbs. It certainly wasn't a proper sentance, nor did it seem to be any sort of puzzle or rhyme, but he could have sworn he had heard something like it before. He read it aloud once more for good measure, before slipping a long invisible tongue out from a gap in his form and eating the paper whole.

He would read it again later.

Strangely enough this was not the first scrap of paper with a nonsensical fragment scrawled on it in child-like handwriting. He had received about six over the past week; one a day since Moonday. Each of them were equally pointless and unfamiliar, each scrawled in a sloppy child-like hand.

How did this secret admirer (or so he assumed) even know where he lived? Twenty-five hundred and seventh tree, to the south-east of the lake, just past the small patch of luminous mushrooms? Could you even address something as such? Yet, regardless, there they were. The little torn-off scraps, crumpled and stuffed into the knot of his favorite tree.

He would have uttered a consice "curiouser and curiouser" had anyone been around to hear it.

Spookday came around without any sign of the mystery note-writer, nor any curious event otherwise, and yet when The Cat awoke from his slumber he discovered another note, stuffed haphazardly into the knot of the tree as the others had been. He slid down from his perch on a particularly thick branch, gathering shadows as he went. Two somewhat confused white eyes popped into existence on his flat, dark face, followed by a small down-turned crescent. Now was no time to practice The Smile after all.

"You had me at jello," He read aloud from the paper. "Now just what in the world could that mean? I'm not even sure I know what 'jello' is..." All the same, again slid out the tongue, whipping the little paper away somewhere inside his mid-section.

As the days and weeks went by, every day punctuated with the mysterious arrival of the mysterious notes from the mysterious admirer, Cat soon found himself too full to store the growing mound of paper in his stomach. At thirty-six pieces, he began accidentally coughing them up, the little scrunched up and slightly slimy wads of paper popping back into existance from amidst his invisible gut and springing across the forest.

The piece reading "let foghorns be foghorns" sailed in a nice arc as he coughed it up, before landing with a shreik.

Wait, a shreik? Cat immediately dismissed his ribbons, putting out the three glowing objects that made up his face quickly, and huddled back against his tree to watch and listen.

"Who's there??" Demanded an upset voice, presumably belonging to whoever had shrieked moments earlier. It sounded young, and female, but one could never be sure around these parts.

"Who's asking~?" Cat crooned in his very best Cheshire voice, remaining invisible.

There was a moments silence, followed by a scurrying of footsteps, and finally a little monster emerged from the forest. By her long golden hair she could be identified as a girl, and by her size she looked no more then eight, but again one could never be certain.

"Where are you!" The tiny and not-the-least-bit-threatening monster demanded. "Show yourself!"

Gleefully, a glowing crescent-shaped grin cracked into existence, floating atop the tree branch.

The little girl blinked up in wonder for a moment, before pointing excitedly. "Cheshire-kitty! Cheshire-kitty! I knew I saw a Cheshire-kitty, but papa didn't believe me!" She squawked joyfully. "Oh mister Cheshire-kitty, did you get my letters?"

Two orbs of light blinked and lit up above the grin, before Cat leisurely gathered up shadows around himself. So this was his secret admirer? Well at least she was blonde. Casually, Cat coughed up another of the notes; the soggy "bog eat bog" note flying down and plopping neatly atop the girl's head.

"Ew!" She whined and flicked the glob of paper off her head at once. "Bad Cheshire-kitty!"

"Cat." He corrected, broad grin never leaving his shadowed face.

She looked unimpressed, haughtily planting one little fist on her hip and wagging an accusing finger up at Cat. "You are a mean and icky kitty and you haven't replied to any of my letters,"

Ahh, so it was her, he pondered silently to himself, his only response to the scolding an ever-widening grin.

In fact, without him knowing, the little girl had seen him lurking about in the darkness while out fetching some herbs for her mother. Mistaking him (and what a lovely mistake it was) for the real Cheshire Cat, the little girl had proceeded to try and lure him out with what she thought was riddles. Day after day she snuck back to where she had seen him, planting her little ill-conceived riddles on stolen scraps of paper.

All of this was beyond Cat's knowledge, however, and he decided he would have his fun before she ran home to rat out his location.

With a puff he vanished, shooting back up into existence behind the girl rapidly. "I'm afraid I haven't any more room for your letters, little one. Should you want to leave me more, you will have to take your old ones back."

The scareling shreiked in surprise, turning to face Cat rapidly. She stumbled backwards, snagging her heel on one of the loose shadowy ribbons trailing across the ground, and fell flat on her bottom.

This was too fun, too much fun entirely.

"I-I don't want 'em back, kitty cat...." Her voice threatened tears, "I don't want them..."

It was all too late, as he had already hooked his fingers around his glowing white mouth. The light flickered and went out a he began to pull; up with one hand and down with the other, slowly pulling open a new and horrible gash from ear to ear on his dark face. As he pulled, the ribbons lost their shape entirely, what was once his 'head' folding away into nothingness. The little girl shreiked over and over, assuming she was about to be eaten, when suddenly, from the hollow shell of Cat's neck, came a river of her crumpled up notes. She only screamed more as the goopy mess covered her.

It was harmless, of course, and done in what he considered to be good humor, but as she scrambled to her feet and ran screaming from the forest, Cat couldn't help but laugh.

Nothing beats a good scare.

Be careful with the third year FEAR. If it effects someone else's character that can cause some problems in terms of how acceptable it is and how it could upset another player.

I'd be more then happy to discuss it with a GM and work it in a way that would be fair to the other player- if it has to go though I'm sure I can think up something else for the third year <3

It's not so much "he pulls them apart, game over" as it is "he temporarily unwinds one of their legs for __ amount of turns, they have trouble moving" and it would all be sorted out by however the dice system ends up working, buuuut again if it doesn't work I'm happy to change it up. <:

Though I probably should make it more clear that reality does pull itself together and such XDa

Thank you for the comment Pach, I'll definitely think on it <3

`Cheshire Ectogeist,' the little reaper girl began, rather timidly, as she did not at all know whether it would like the name: however, it only grinned a little wider. `Come, it's pleased so far,' thought Alice, and she went on. `Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?'

`That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' said the Ectogeist.

`I don't much care where--' said Alice.

`Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Ectogeist.

`--so long as I get SOMEWHERE,' Alice added as an explanation.

`Oh, you're sure to do that,' said the Ectogeist, `if you only walk long enough.'

Alice felt that this could not be denied, so she tried another question. `What sort of people live about here?'

`In THAT direction,' the Ectogeist said, waving its rightmost tentacle round, `lives a Hatter: and in THAT direction,' waving another tentacle, `lives a March Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad.'

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Ectogeist: `we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'

`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.

`You must be,' said the Ectogeist, `or you wouldn't have come here.'
