What a relief it was the hear that the game was over. When their group reconvened Mitsu did her best to smile. "Y..yeah I had fun." In truth, not really but she hadn't known what she was doing, but it had been her idea. "Do you want to get some desert and do something else?" Sitting down somewhere to relax sounded nice right about now.

Depositing the equipment back where it had come from Mitsu walked with the boys back out of the laser tag area. It had certainly been an experience and she wasn't so sure her choice in activities had really been a good idea. Oh well, there wasn't much she could do about it now.

"Isn't there an ice cream parlor on the next street over?" Mitsu couldn't quite remember but that sounded about right. "Do you want to get some ice cream? We can just cut through here." She said stopping by an alleyway.

With the game over, Shun made his way over towards Mitsu, placing his hands back into his pockets. He wasn't really in a mood for sweets, but he wouldn't object if that was what she wanted. Nodding to her, he followed the girl on out into the street.

"I think so," he said quietly. The teen was fairly certain there was one nearby, "And I guess so."

Without the game to preoccupy him, he found the awkwardness of the situation sinking back in slowly.

The lack of conviction in her answer made Desmond raise an eyebrow. While he wasn't 100% on it, he was fairly sure she'd lied about having fun. Well, that just meant they'd never do it again... Which was fine with him.

Whereas Klyde would've been all about sweets, Desmond just smiled and shrugged. "Sounds fine to me." The fact that they'd be going through an alley didn't seem to strike him as an omen. He was, after all, one of those creatures that went 'bump' in the night. What was there that could possibly scare him?

They both sounded thrilled about it....just about as thrilled as they had been about this evening. Well, Desmond did a better job of pretending but Mitsu could still tell they were just trying to play nice for her benefit. With a small sigh Mitsu started to fidget with her jacket as she started to turn toward the alley. "Sorry guys....I won't make you do this again.." She said softly moving toward their destination. It was like forcing to magnets together on the opposite sides. They just didn't mesh well and forced the other away.

The alley seemed normal as the group entered though it seemed to stretch a ways down and then veer off because of another building. When they finally turned the corner that's when the signs of warning started to pop up. It was spring time so it was warming up, but the alley was cold enough that breath was visible and the further they went the colder it was. "It's so cold down here." Mitsu chattered.

POP! POP POP POP!" One by one the lights above them burst casting the alley in complete darkness. Letting out a sound of surprise, Mitsu pressed herself against the alley wall, crimson eyes glowing faintly against the black.

Though he looked over towards Mitsu softly, Shun didn't say anything to her apology. As they made their way through the alleyway, he did notice how chilly it was around here. The damn weather couldn't make up its mind it seemed. But then he thought it was getting a little too cold for this time of year.

Even so, he wasn't too worried. At least, until the lights suddenly went out, leaving them in the dark. In a moment he activated his spell, allowing him to see. Now this was strange...

Narrowing his eyes, he gripped on the two switchblades he kept in his pockets.

"Come on, let's keep moving," he ushered lowly while moving towards Mitsu to try and get her away from the wall. He was keeping an eye out for anything out of place, however. This didn't seem like an average blackout after all.

At first, Desmond hadn't noticed the cold. Being a cold blododed creature himself, the weather didn't affect him too much...

But as it continued to drop, he couldn't help but feel like something was amiss. Blue eyes suddenly alight as they were left in the dark, his head darted around to see what had caused it. That wasn't natural by any means.

Instinctively, the vampire moved closer to Mitsu, taking her hand and giving it a squeeze. "We need to go now." Well, it was the second time Desmond and Shun had agreed on something that night. At least it seemed like they were on a roll.

Wide eyed Mitsu looked to her companions and gave a short nod, her hand holding onto Desmond's tightly. Moving away from the wall she started back down the alley again except this time her pace was much faster. It didn't seem like anything else was going to happen though, there was no one in the alley and they were nearly at the next turn. Mitsu could feel her thundering heart calm a little. If they got around the corner they would be fine because it would be a straight shot into the street from there.

And that's when the figure appeared, though he did not emerge from hiding. There was no warning or yell of surprise, instead the hooded man dropped down from above, two daggers made of ice in his gloved hands. Since he was landing in the middle of a tightly packed group the figure shoved against Desmond and Mitsu, sending the wolf girl to the ground. Once his feet hit the ground he pushed forward toward Shun, his daggers slicing at the boy's middle.

As they started to move, Shun had the feeling that there was a fourth party in this alleyway. Gripping onto his switchblades a little tighter, he kept an eye out but saw nothing. Then the guy suddenly appeared in the middle of the trio.

He hadn't been expecting the guy to come from above, so he wasn't quite prepared to move out of the way. The assassin managed to dodge the bulk of the attack, but he still felt the icy blades slice into his midsection.

Hissing out in pain, he clutched onto the wound with one hand and whipped out one of his switch blades with the other.

"Get Mitsu out of here!" he snapped at Desmond while flicking his hand away to splatter some of his blood to the ground. He had a feeling he'd need it.

Looking over his attacker, he took note of the wolf's tail.

"Dammit, did he send you?" he growled at the wolf, not dropping names.

Desmond knew something was going to happen. The tenseness in the air and events playing out in the alleyway made it too obvious...

He just had no idea it would be something this serious.

Glowing eyes now wide as they could be, the vampire was barely able to keep his footing, but he refused to let go of Mitsu's hand.

... It happened so fast. In mere seconds the scent of blood was wafting up to his nose, which immediately triggered a halt of breathing.

Shun didn't have to tell him twice. Cringing, he hurriedly scooped Mitsu up and held onto her tightly, feet launching off like a mad man. Who was he? And moreover, who was he? What the ******** was going on? "Don't hate me for this Mitsu." She probably thought him a coward for leaving her friend to possibly die... But Desmond had a feeling that p***k wouldn't be going down that easily.

"What?" Mitsu questioned frantically not having time to access the situation. Hearing Desmond's apology as he scooped her up she looked back to see that Shun was staying behind with whoever had gotten the drop on them. "Shun? SHUN!! NO! Desmond don't leave him!" She started to push against him trying to get down. They couldn't just leave him there all on his own. She could already smell blood, he was hurt.

Ginji leaped back after he made his attack, his head tilting hearing retreating footsteps. Instead of answering Shun the wolf disappeared into the black forming again from the darkness in Desmond's path. Spinning the blades in his hand he struck out at the vampire not caring that he had someone in his arms. "I believe I have business with the one in your arms. She's supposed to witness this so I can't let you take her." The man's face couldn't be seen passed his hood so it was hard to say what he looked like or the expression he wore but he seemed rather serious about the matter.

"Dammit Wolf!" he hissed out at his attacker. He didn't know why Suto decided to do this but it didn't matter. As far as he was concerned, he now had a target on him and apparently Mitsu was supposed to watch it happen. Regardless if he could fend off the Wolf, he wouldn't let Suto have the gratification of forcing her to watch him die.

Now grabbing his second blade, he lunged out at the guy. If he could keep his attention long enough, Desmond might be able to get the girl away. Oh how he hated the thought of the vampire being the one to pull her to safety. He loathed it. But there were things he hated more right now.

"You're here for me so pay attention!" he hissed while attempting to stab him in the back with both blades.

Through her struggling, Desmond refused to let go. Instead, he clung tighter. He imagined how bad it made her feel... Leaving Shun there like that... Because Desmond was sure she'd never let him live this one down if the boy ended up dying. It was selfish. He knew it was selfish. But he'd be damned if he would let anything happen to her... Even if it was at his, or someone else's expense.

All the thinking helped for their attacker to catch him completely off guard. Seeing the dagger being lifted, Desmond forced his shoulder forward as he skidded to a halt. The feeling of an unusually cold blade cutting through his already cold flesh was unlike anything he'd gotten the privilege to experience...

But all it gained from him on the outside was a flinch and a dark stain slowly enveloping his shirt. "******** you!" He shouted angrily, canines barely visible in the light less alley. Almost immediately, Desmond turned away from the man to keep Mitsu out of his sight. What ******** business? And what did she need to see? Shun get ripped to shreds?

Desmond didn't have the time to ask. Ready for attempt number two, he darted the opposite way of the conflict...

But something told him this wouldn't work either. He had no idea what was up with that guy... But his determination was more frightening than those ice blades could ever be...

As soon as his knife sliced through flesh Ginji could smell the blood. The old blood. Ah, so this was the vampire boyfriend he had been told about. Suto had given him something special for him.

He could hear Shun quickly approaching, it was hard not to with the boy shouting at him but he had been instructed not to let the girl leave. She had to know her fate and her punishment.

Spinning around quickly Ginji brought up his daggers to block Shun's attack, using a great deal of force to push the boy back. When he was free to move Ginji was gone again in the blink of an eye but there was something in his place, a creature made of inky black, eyes and mouth made of nothing but a white void. It let out a shrill screech, its mouth opening a good foot to do so before it reached out toward Shun with a clawed hand to hold him in place.

Once again Ginji emerged from the darkness but this time directly behind Desmond's retreating back. In one fluid motion he reached behind his back for the item Suto had given him. A special blade that Ginji himself had to be careful not to touch. Only the case and the gloves he wore could shield him from the holy magic it possessed. Once it was in his hands the blades of the knife snapped out into place making the whole item look like a cross.

Instead of running the vampire through since he had no idea if he would hit the girl, Ginji did the next best thing to slow the vampire down. Lunging forward he reached out for the vampire's shoulder dropping his other dagger in the process before forcing the cross blade into the vampire's back. "You weren't listening. I said I couldn't let you take her."

Mitsu was in a complete panic. She had been trying to get back down but when the strange man suddenly appeared in their path striking out at her and Desmond she clung tightly to the vampire's neck instead. It was the strangest feeling to be too afraid to scream but she was, the noise stuck in her throat as Desmond rushed in the opposite direction. There was something odd though, something her now racing mind couldn't quite place. This man...he sounded so familiar...and his scent. She could barely smell it but...he smelled like....

But she didn't get a chance to complete that thought, the man was there again ready to attack. He seemed to be everywhere at once. "Desmond look out!" And that's when she saw it...the tail. Those little gears in her head kept trying to turn but her panic stricken mind just wasn't ready to process the information.

Being pushed back, Shun stumbled a little, his leg finally acting up from all of the activity. The cut at his abdomen didn't help much either. Gritting his teeth, he was about to strike out again, but was surprised to see a shadow creature take the place of the Wolf. In an instant, he teleported back to where he splattered his blood to the ground.

Letting out a breath, he moved forth quickly. He took note of the new weapon the Wolf now wielded, but didn't really think much of it. While the Wolf attacked Desmond, the assassin moved to the side to try and slash the side of his ribs.

Mitsu's warning had barely finished when Desmond felt the hand on his shoulder. He had been so focused on running forward that the vampire had not seen the new weapon, so he had figured it was just going to be another little flesh wound that healed before the end of the night...

It soon became painfully obvious that this wasn't the case.

Desmond had tried to pick up a holy object once after he'd found out what he was... But even poking the small cross had left a burn on his finger that lasted for about a week. The pain had brought beads of tears to his eyes...

This... This was one hundred times worse. At first it had started off as no more than a tingling sensation, but within seconds an overwhelming pain brought him to his knees, causing him to let out an almost inhuman cry. There was a smell of burning flesh slowly emanating through the air, accompanied by a loud sizzling sound. His flimsy shirt did nothing to keep him safe.

The vampire's pupils were the size of pinpoints as his teeth clamped down to keep another scream from escaping his mouth. Never in his life had he experienced so much pain it brought him to the ground. The cocky part of him had thought for a long time that it wasn't even possible.

The legs that had been so obedient to his every whim suddenly didn't want to listen anymore. He shouted at them to stand. Begged and pleaded with them to keep him moving, but continuously he got 'no' for an answer.

"M-Mitsu.." His grip started loosening on her, even if his body wanted to squeeze her so tightly she couldn't breathe. "You need to run. Run as fast as you can possibly go, okay?" He tried to say through his teeth.

Taking hold of her face with shaking hands, he looked her directly in the eyes. There was fear. He was afraid, not just for himself, but for her as well. "I love you." His voice was barely above a whisper, taking great pains to hide the overwhelming sadness in his words. This couldn't be the end, right? There were so many things to do. So many things he wanted to see... And feel.

Many questions Desmond had never concerned himself with hit him like bricks within a second. Was there a God? A Heaven? ... A Hell? What did it feel like to really be dead? The normal questions people ask in his situation...

But most of all... How did he ever think he was invincible?

... What a humbling experience.
