"Did you not hear them yelling and talking?! With ears that big there is no excuse for you to hear me but not them!" Despite his argument and words, Mac also dropped his voice to a heated whisper. He was unable to turn and stare down at her like he wanted to thanks to Lizzy gripping his arm, but it probably worked out better this way.

She had yet to scare him again and for now, Mac felt he was thoroughly in the right.

"Besides, you stupid girl, whose to say this wouldn't attack us if they caught us sneaking around the candlejackin' mist like those cloaked freaks?!" He lifted his free hand, making a gesture that would have screamed 'shut it' more obviously had he not been holding a baseball bat at the same time.

Then, glancing at Lizzy, he frowned, grumbled something, and looked away from both ghouls.

Petro turned towards Lizzy to give the pink-haired ghoul a small smile, "'M gonna be fine," he promised her. "Gotta look for Sepheran and Arachne and Alwyn too." They were part of the herd and he didn't want them left behind. Or worse, dragged off and attacked.

"Dunno about the being loud thing. Remember the ship? When Mandy got dragged away we didn't hear nothing," he frowned pensively. It didn't make sense to the boil. Why wouldn't they have heard her scream? Unless she hadn't screamed. Given the strange ghoul's behavior it sounded possible to Petro. Or not. She could scream real loud.

One of Mandys ears flicked in Lizzy's direction indicating she had heard but aside from that she gave no sign of listening to the ghoul, all her focus on Mac.

"Yeah I heard them! And they where being attacked werent they!", he was very lucky she has vowed off physical violence to her fellows whilst on the trip others his comment about her ears my have ended him with a new bruise.

Unforutunatly for Mac he then did something very very stupid that made her reconsider this. And that was raising his bat, he may have ment it as a shut it gesture but all Mandy saw was him raising his weapon against her.

Lips pulled back to reveal sharp teeth a low warning growl was issued from her throat. Mac only indiction for why she suddenly looked like she might maul him was her eyes trained on her bat, argument forgotten.

Consequently because of this she did not register anything Petro had said, nor the implications thereof.

Arachne had followed a little way after, after shooting Sepheran a very pleading look, her hand still gripping onto him - basically if he'd wanted to go in another direction he would have to drag her with him!

As she approached their little motley group, she noticed that others had also decided to head this way, and looked at them, seeing that Sin wasn't one of them. She hoped the ghoul was okay, where ever..and even whoever she was with.

(( In response to this ))

Mac found it strange that Mandy had stopped arguing with him. The Reaper had looked away from her on Lizzy's minor scolding, and thus didn't see her gaze move dangerously to his innocently raised bat. Well, innocent as far as actually hitting something went. An odd growling noise did register soon after he realized she was no longer babbling inanely at him, and when he looked back over to see what the matter was...

There was nothing.

Absolutely nothing...other than the deep, thick fog.

It donned on him then that he didn't even feel the Demoness' grip on his arm; he even lifted it to see if he could feel anything. It was unsuccessful. Lizzy had actually let him go! That was...odd. Good in a strange way, but still odd. The Pink haired ghoul had made a clear point to not let him go...so why did she, now?

"...Lizzy?" He called first, the fog so thick he thought his own voice sounded muffled. "Jericho? Loincloth dude?" Still, his voice sounded odd even to himself; the thin cut on his neck clearly had nothing to do with it, as his voice had been fine moments before. "...Mandy...?" He stated next, though he was loathe so say the name of the ghoul who currently set the record for pissing him off in a single hour. That, of course, was when he started hearing voices. He couldn't tell what they were saying, but voices were voices and it was at least a place to start.

"H-hey! I'm coming, don't go too far ahead!" He called out, hoping the distant voices would hear him. Moving carefully, one foot in front of the other and one arm outstretched ahead of himself, he continued along almost blindly. The need to catch up with the voices outweighed the overwhelming fear of not knowing where he was, whose voice he was following, or even if he was about to run into something terrible. He stumbled a few times, his foot catching on an uneven section of ground, or even a root, and once his shin hit a rock hard enough to have him stumble back onto a knee for a moment. Still, no matter what, he got up and continued forward. He had to.

The closer he got to the voices, and clearer their words became.

Get out! Get out now!

"W...What...?" That...that was certainly not something he expected to hear; it was most definitely something he didn't want to hear, and the Reaper shuddered visibly. Disembodied voices were telling him to leave, but he didn't know which way was out. He couldn't even tell which way he had arrived! Coughing lightly, he looked around and did his absolute best to not get turned around any more than he already was; a difficult task, considering, well, everything.

The vicious whispers continued, and Mac couldn't take it anymore; being here was a terrible idea, a downright horrible one, in fact! Turning on his heel, he did a complete one-eighty and headed back the way he came. Or at least, the way he was pretty sure he came from. It was really hard to tell with all this fog, and all he could do was stumble blindly forward, one foot in front of the other.

"Guys? Hello? Where are you?!" His heart racing, Mac tried to keep the panic from his voice while he searched with increasing desperation for the rest of his group.

Reacting to the Event

If Petro's brows weren't already furrowed, they would have been when Mandy bared her teeth at Mac. Whatever had gone on between the two prior to the formation of their herd, Petro wasn't privy to it but that didn't seem to matter to the tikbalang. He wasn't going to step in to stop their fighting, if his theory on the noise was right. Plus, it was best he knew who could handle their own in a fight (so far everyone who'd been attacked had shown they could) to give him a better idea of who might need help. He risked another glance over his shoulder, spotting Arachne and Sepheran coming towards them and he waved to signal to them to pick up their pace. All they needed to find was Alwyne, right?

But just as he lowered his hand, a thick blanket of fog fell upon him.

Immediately, Petro got into a defensive stance, brandishing his weapon while his eyes darted everywhere looking for any sign of the others. Nothing. He could see nothing. But he could feel something. Someone. It had no definitive shape to identify, no distinguishing features to give away. The monster boil just knew it was there. Beside him. Behind him. Never in front.

"Who goes there?" he called out, not wanting to use any names, fearing that if he did, whoever it really was would use it to fool him or his companions. "'S just me!" he added, hoping his voice would carry through the thick fog towards whoever it was following him. He fell quiet, waiting for a response, every muscle in him taut and ready to spring into action, holding onto his mace so tightly his tanned knuckles had paled.

Moments passed and there was only stillness and silence. Which did nothing to calm the monster boil down. Why weren't the others yelling out to each other? Were they worrying they'd attract the cloaked figures if they did? Was this all a trap the figures had planned for them? Oh Jack, it probably was! If he ever got a hold of any of them, Petro was going to show them unrestrained fury and give them (preferably) multiple cases of blunt force trauma.

In the midst of his violent planning, he heard it. Heard them. Voices. Faint and distant but he was certain they were trying to tell him something. Maybe it was the others! Maybe the fog was smothering the sounds, made their words indistinguishable and inarticulate. That was fine, he was sure they'd be able to tell him what they've been trying to tell him when the caught up to them

"Hey! Everyone! Hold up!" He yelled back, bare feet pounding on the gravely road that he could hardly see but could definitely feel, kicking up a loose pebble or two every now and again. Every time it felt like he was about to reach them, the voices moved elsewhere, forcing him to sharply turn on the balls of his feet or to drag his mace against the ground to anchor him.

When he finally caught up to the voices, he still couldn't see who they were. But whatever relief he might have felt fled from him upon hearing the harsh command that came as a whisper "Get out! Get out now!"

Anger and stubbornness had him stand his ground and heft his mace, "Answers first! Y' hear me? ANSWERS FIRST!! 'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE UNTIL Y' TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON!" His own demand was met with silence as the fog abated just enough for him to catch sight of where he was. It felt like he'd been running forever to catch the voice but it turned out he'd just been running in circles!? "Gago kayong lahat!" was his harsh scream preceding the equally sharp slamming of his blunt mace onto the ground. They were playing with them, weren't they? And Petro did not appreciate it. He'd gotten separate from the group and certainly owed Mandy and Lizzy an apology for his own careless. If anyone in the herd chewed him out, he was certain he deserved it.

Letting out one final snort, he restarted his search for the others in earnest.

Reaction time!

Like a thick blanket the fog wrapped around her, cutting off her senses to the world. Growl catching in her throat at her sudden encasement she reached an arm out in front of her, hoping to touch Mac who had been directly in front of her. Instead she grasped nothing.

Hands trembling she spun around to the spot and mentally retraced her steps to where she’d last left Alwine. Her arms found nothing but air.

Nothing.

No one.

Alone in the fog

Any anger or rage she may have held from her argument with Mac fled her, face paling.

There wasn’t even a figure attacking.

As Mandy continued to spin in circles trying to find anything, anyone, a whimper escaped her throat. If there was one thing Mandy hated, feared, it was being lost without anyone else beside her. That’s why she’d been in such a state after the shipwreck – aside from nearly drowning.

And here she was again. Sure earlier she’d been separated briefly before that skull wielding figure attacked them but the feel then had been different.

Now the air tasted, tasted… like despair.

She had to escape it

Whirling again, having lost what direction she had been originally facing long ago, she set out in a dead sprint, heedless of anything that could be in her way. Not that there was anything - just fog! Fog, fog, that damnable fog!

Lungs and legs burned in a familiar way as ground disappeared beneath her bare feet but unlike before there was no driftwood to cling to – no lifeline to carry her to the beach.

Crunch, crunch, crunch

For so long the only sound to follow her was the shifting pebbles, sounding to her like the snapping of some beasts jaws.

Crunch, crunch, crun- CRASH

Yelping Mandy found herself toppling to the ground as an unseen obstacle, too quickly swallowed by the fog, tripped on from her mad dash.

Laying on the ground, air gasping in and out of her as her heart raced an unseen foe, she finally took a moment to try and push some panic aside- think ghoul think!

That’s when she heard it.

Get out, get out now

The words rasped against her ears, grating among the stifling silence of the fog. They seemed to be said in a dozen, a hundred, a thousand different voices – all vicious, all hateful.

But among them all one stood out to her.

“Marilyn!”

Maria, Maria the voice echoed back.

“Marilyn!”

W-what was her sisters voice doing among them?

Maria, Maria, poor little Maria. it seemed to almost sing at her now, the song she’d wanted earlier but wanted nothing more than to shut up.

“Shut up! Go away! You can’t be here!”

Maria, Maria, get out before we get ya~

A strangled sob. Too familiar. Too familiar. She’d never wanted to hear her sisters voice again!

Maria, Maria, poor little Maria. All alone, and nobody at home, is out there looking for you.

With an inarticulate scream Mandy sprung up again and resumed her mad dash- she had to get away from her voice. Had to!

And Mandy sprinted on through the fog alone.

[RESPONDING TO THIS. - 511 words |D]

"Mac..." Was it a whine? It probably sounded a little like a whine, but before she could say more or react to Mandy's reaction, fog enveloped them. She tightened her grip around Mac's arm, but it was no use; somehow, the fog had messed with her - with all of them - and she found herself alone... Although not quite. She could feel someone nearby, but not quite in reach. It was unnerving, and she stopped moving, frowning as she swatted at the fog, as if that would make it go away.

"Maccccc. Petrooooo. Mandyyyy. Jerichoooo." She called out to those she had been speaking to just a few minutes (it had only been a few minutes, right?) ago, taking one step forward, determined to find her friends; ugh, actually, she would be happy to find anyone in this fog! She continued to call out the names of her friends as she moved forward; if someone wants to attack her, go ahead - not like staying quiet will lessen the chance of being attacked anyway. She did, however, decided to proceed with caution; staying on alert, her wooden bat removed from her backpack and held firmly in her hands, Lizzy finally heard something through the thick fog.

"... Uh, guys?" She frowned, squinting her eyes to try to see through the fog. When all she saw was more fog rather than any recognizable figures, her frown deepened and she quickened her pace, moving towards the source of the voices with her bat raised. As she called out her friends' names once again, her voice strained, she wondered why the voices didn't call back. They wouldn't leave her behind on purpose, right? Did they not realize that she had disappeared?

Did they not realize that she had pulled a Mandy?

Breaking into a run, her grip on the bat tightened as she tried to catch up to what she assumed was her group. However, as she got closer and closer to the voices, she realized that none of them belonged to anyone she knew. It didn't help that it was asking her to 'Get out' - a vague instruction considering how lost and blind she felt at the moment.

"Wait! How do I 'get out'? Who's there, show yourself!" She yelled out to the fog, the fear of being left behind replaced with curiosity as she continued to run forward, towards the voices. If the owner of the voice knows something, she had to ask! After all, all the figures that had attacked them thus far had been silent, except for that first large guy, so this person(s) must not be one of them, right?

"What do you mea-"

Then the world stopped being grey and the voices stopped; she could see the lighthouse again, through the thin fog that had pretty much enveloped what she had seen of the island. For a second, she just stood perfectly still, the bat in her hand, as she stared at the lighthouse in the distance; did she imagine all that? What just happened?

"... Anyone...?"

(( Day Two Event Response ))

Arachne was about to ask Elizabeth if she'd seen Sin, or if she knew the other students that were approaching the Lighthouse that weren't in their little group, but her words were swallowed up as her surroundings vanished. Everyone vanished, including Sepheran. All that was left was a lingering press to the fingers that had just been clutching tightly to him..she panicked, moving with her hands stretched out in front of them, whirling this way and that, hoping to come into contact with someone, anyone!

'Lizzy! Sepheran!' she called, swallowing thickly, pushing back the tears that had been threatening ever since she was washed up to shore from the crashed boat. She might never get home, get back to the school and see her Skitter again - see her Grandmother again. She let out a stifled sob, cramming a hand against her mouth as she tried not to break down. She pressed her other hand against her chest, talking softly to herself in an attempt not to flip out, to lose it and sink to the floor in helpless tears.

As she quieted herself, she began to pay attention to a sound that had probably been around her the entire time, voices, from near and far all at the same moment.

'Hello? Is that you guys?' she managed, voice shaky but still able to talk. Just. She started moving towards the voices, in the direction she thought they were coming from, her eyes narrowed, trying to pierce the fog and see something, see who was speaking, whispering. A shiver ran through her; it felt like she was surrounded on all sides but she couldn't see anyone, and as she kept on walking, the voices assembled into hard, cruel whispers

Get out! Get out now!

She whirled on the spot, scared and angry all at once.
'Whoever that is stop it! It's not funny!'

The whispers continued, and she was just scared now, standing frozen in one spot. Helpless. That's how she felt. And alone. Truely alone. It was one thing to choose to be seperate from others but this..all she wanted was to see another person, another student. It didn't matter who, boil, ghoul - even if she stumbled upon Rosciel, right at this moment she would be glad of his company!

'Stop it please.' she pleaded, sinking to her knees, folding onto the floor, her hands over her ears, trying to shut the whispers out.
'Please, please.' she rocked a little, her eyes tightly shut, tears rolling down her pale cheeks as she wished herself far away, away from here. Anywhere, even in the most boring lesson! All the things she might never do began to plague her as well, swirling around in her mind, causing her to curl even more into herself for a short time...

Arachne tried to calm herself again, part of her realising that going to pieces wouldn't help matters, but it was harder this time, and taking in little shuddering breaths, she got slowly to her feet, her hands still pressed tightly over her ears. Slowly she edged forwards, heading in the direction she thought she had come from when she was following the whispers, letting her hands drop every now and then to listen, and to call out for her group, for her friends.

'Where are you guys..' she whispered.

(( response to this event ))

When Astra had returned from the fog safely, Riley nodded to Jericho and headed back towards the lighthouse again. Her hands never left the comforting crouch of Malodore's arm and Jericho's hand. It was here that she felt like everything was going to work out in the end, and she was determined to hold on to this feeling as long as she could.

Which was approximately for a few more seconds. Thank you, Universe.

The fog was starting to become familiar. It had happened several times, and each time had been different. Her only reaction to the fog that creeped up her legs this time around was an exasperated sigh. She let Jericho's hand go, and started to pull her hand out from under Malodore's - but she didn't even get the chance to do it of her own volition. The fog was relentless and brutal, pulling her away from Malodore before she was ready.

She had one last glance before it, too, was engulfed in the thick mists that held them all captive.

Fine. I get it. Come out, and let's get this over with. It was hardly the same kind of vibrant, cocky response she would have given a potential fight earlier. Unfortunately, it was met with no answer. She spun in place, though she used her toe to dig a line in the gravel to keep herself from losing track of direction. Still, no one came.

Come on.. she growled into the gray mass that surrounded her. SHOW YOURSELF ALREADY! She felt the muted emptiness as her mental scream reached no mind, and her tense posture slacked just slightly.

Was there really no one there?

Looking down at the ground, she turned her body in the direction she'd been going last, and hoped beyond hope there was no cliff for her to accidentally walk off. She couldn't even see her feet.. travelling in weather like this was quite dangerous.

Unlike other students, she didn't call out anyone's name. In fact, now that she was in trouble, she preferred being alone. No one else could get hurt. This was how she liked it, and it felt more like old times. In fact, it was starting to feel a lot like old times, when she started hearing the voices.

Her tentacles lashed out every so often as she felt a presence behind her, or beside her. They always came up empty, simply disturbing the fog in their way for a moment before the grayness folded in on itself and any disruption disappeared. Her worry bubbled up in her, but she repeatedly pushed it back down. Now was not the time to panic. She could do nothing for Malodore or Jericho.. except get out of this fog safely so she would be there to help them when they did the same. And so, the only thing she could do was walk.

So she walked.

She twitched as she began to hear voices. Her steps quickened, advancing on the position she thought she could hear people talking from. It was only a few seconds later that she realized the voices she heard were right there, whispering in her ear. Or her mind.

Get out. A hoarse whisper warned her. Get out now.

The voice sent shivers up her spine, and goosebumps ran along her skin. She swiveled around one last time before finally giving up on finding others and put every effort into simply getting out herself. This involved her breaking into a sprint, flying across the ground with a light foot and a quick pace. This only served to make the voices grow louder, until finally she stopped when she realized one of them, one she heard in her head, sounded familiar.

Her face turned a soft, whitish pale in shock.

From out of the fog, behind her, she could almost picture Andeon emerging. His tentacles wrapped around her in an unforgiving fashion, holding her in place.

Get out.

She wanted nothing more than to listen to that voice, but she was frozen in disgust. Her breathing had stopped, and her face was stricken in a horrified expression. Her mind was playing tricks on her. It had to be. IT HAD TO BE.

She swiveled around as she thought this last thought, and was meant with nothing but a wall of fog.

It wasn't real, she assured herself. It was all in her mind. She had nothing to worry about.

Nothing.

She about-faced and headed in the forward direction she'd been holding on to desperately, and began the slow process of trying to forget about what her mind had just tried to warn her about. The fog was the least of her problems.

((Reaction tiem!))

Astra had been feeling rather happy about defeating the Hooded figure all by herself…Until Jericho dismissed her win as a "waste of time". Fuming, she was about to tell the dragon off when she found she couldn't see him anymore. No, scratch that, she couldn't see anyone anymore. The fog had engulfed her again, but this time it was different. There was no cloaked figure jumping out to attack her.

"...hello? Anyone?" She called out to the fog, her voice sounding very small. Wasn’t she just standing next to everyone mere seconds ago?

"Riley?"

Nothing

"Aksaja?"

Still nothing

...Did she really have to call out his name? "... Jericho?" Again, no one answered her call"

......"YOU’RE A STUPID DRAGON AND YOUR TREASURE SUCKS AND I'M GOING TO STEAL IT AND FLUSH ALL YOUR DICE DOWN THE LOO!"

Okay, maybe she overdid it that time. But again, there was no response (which was a very lucky thing for the fairy all things considered), so it meant that she truly was by herself this time. Astra hovered off the ground and flew in the direction she believed the lighthouse was, because that was where everyone else would go, right? She listened carefully for any sound of her friends voices, but was met with only voices. Where they her friends? She couldn’t hear them clearly. “Hello?!?!” Astra tried to shout as loud as she could.

…”Where is everyone?” she whispered. The feelers on her head began to swivel around, acting as if they were tv antenna trying to pick up a signal. And then, she felt it; a presence, one that was very close to her…almost behind her even. The fairy whizzed around to face whoever it was, but was met with nothing. Yet she could still feel something was close, and it made her all the more nervous. Oooh…why wouldn’t they let her summon her staff?! This was so unfair…

Astra picked up the pace now, flying towards the voices she could barely hear in the distance. They had to be her friends! As she grew closer, she was able to hear what they were saying…and now they didn’t seem to be happy

“Get out! Get out now!”

Get out? Did they want to keep her away from the lighthouse?!

“GET OUT!”

With a sudden squeak, she was quick to backpedal, flying away from the voices that seemed more dangerous then friendly. But as she flew she began to wonder if she was going in the right direction….for that matter, which was it to the lighthouse? The fog had made it impossible to tell where she was going, and now she was utterly lost. Brilliant

“…Now what do I do…” Her feelers dropped, and she let herself fall to the ground, sitting down and folding her arms, not having any ideas on how to get out of this situation. Her thoughts turned to Jericho again, whom she felt rather angry at. Couldn’t he just let out a huge flame and let everyone else know where he was? Cause at this moment, even if she was angry at him…seeing his presence would be a comfort...if only a small one. Or maybe riley could use her mental powers to contact her? But if she could, why wasn’t she doing so now?

This trip was getting suckier by the minute

Through the fog Petro wandered, towards the barely visible lighthouse. He remembered their decision to explore that after the ships. His only hope was to meet up with them there. He moved as silently as the gravel beneath his feet would allow, trying not to draw attention to himself while keeping an ear and an eye out for something. Anything.

He liked the quiet. Calming, soothing, peaceful quiet. This, however, was not quiet. It was silence. Stifling, nerve-wracking, ominous silence. The barely dressed boil didn't like silence. Never have. Never will.

"Guys? Hello? Where are you?!" His heart racing, Mac tried to keep the panic from his voice while he searched with increasing desperation for the rest of his group.

"That's the wrong way!"

A semi-solid figure stood right in front of Mac, a ghost child perhaps, sporting only a tattered white dress and one shoe. Both her eyes were missing, filled with empty black sockets. One of the eye sockets bulged - pop! - and a bundle of black pus and spiders crawled out of it, trickling down her chin, collapsing onto the ground. The other followed suite - pop - pop! - and continued even as she walked closer towards the reaper.

"You're going the wrong way, silly! The real way is THAT way." Suddenly, she was next to him, grabbing one end of his jacket. "Come with me, come this way, don't you trust me?"

Petro had been expecting an attack ever since he got separated from the group. Divide and conquer was a tactic as old as time, perhaps even older than Halloween Town itself. So when the figure appeared before him and grabbed at him, the cry that came forth from his mouth was not one of surprise but one of battle.

Instinctively, he swung his mace at his assailant's hands, attempting to knock himself free, and if the fog would just stop messing with his aim, possibly even break bone. That is, if the axe-wielding figure had any bones to break.
