A song? Apart from the fact that she could barely think she was so cold, she asserted that she couldn't carry a tune to save her life. Chattering teeth might make for good percussion but she couldn't sing, couldn't think of a song to sing. Her mother was the musical one not she, but she scoured her mind for anything that would do, maybe something that her mother had sung. She shook her head minutely, pale fingers grasping at her dress material, squeezing water from it, and tried to get her cold limbs to co-operate, with little success so far.
She heard a sigh near her, and then footsteps, then something heavy and warm around her shoulders. She grasped at the coat, looking up at the boil who had given it him - the one who had seemed to have a problem with demons.
'T-thanks.' She still didn't know his name, but at least there was some manners there, a small nod towards decency. Arachne finally got to her feet, wondering how serious the Professor was about throwing them back in the water if they didn't perform. Eventually she thought of something, and with a hand clinging onto Mac's coat, she sang a short verse from a song she had heard her mother sing a few times, her teeth still chattering every now and then ;
Itsy bitsy spider, waiting on the wall You better watch out or she will have you caught It is a constant strain, constant pain watching you deny That her plans to catch you, starts when you tell lies No matter how obvious you seem like you're blind Can't you feel problems that creep up from behind Baby, you are not a boy there are things that you should see The strings she's tied you must cut loose, it's up to you not me, It's up to you not me

(( Minipet Profile )) Sing, or be thrown into the water? ...Well, given the choices he had in the matter, the solution was obvious. At least to him it was. He didn't really sing per se, but it could definitely be described as almost-singing, but mostly talking in melody. Hopefully, it wouldn't hurt ears that way.
Fifteen men on a dead man's chest Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum Drink and the devil had done for the rest The mate was fixed by the bosun's pike The bosun brained with a marlinspike And cookey's throat was marked belike It had been gripped by fingers ten; And there they lay, all good dead men Like break o'day in a boozing ken Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.
Clearly, Mac thought it fitting. They were on a boat, and that was the only sea-pirate-shanty he could remember. A little morbid maybe, but hey, this was Halloween. Morbid was daily life, after all. The only unfitting part of it was the headcount; there were twelve on this boat, not fifteen. He looked back at the Demoness who had thanked him for his coat, simply nodding to her.
"You can keep it as long as you need it, I brought a spare." At face value his words could at least seem kind, even with the even tone they were presented with. Underneath that however, there was a childish 'ew, cooties' moment, as the coat had now touched and been around an unknown demon's shoulders.
With that, he looked towards Ren next.
"Changing. Yes. Bloody Mary is it ever cold..." He was straining to keep his voice from chattering, but with the random fishing and food catching earlier, it was hard. The cold was getting to his bones.

For what seemed like the very first time in Tabitha's unlife she wanted to punch someone in the face. It wasn't like Sleuth hadn't then saved the green demon boil and if the other demon had such anger issues with jumping into shallow waters then why had he done it on command as well? It wasn't the trick-or-treater's fault alone and if there was one thing Tabitha despised it was badly placed blame. Clenching her hand's at her side she kept her skull clamped shut as she glared angrily at Rosc before looking away- Anywhere but at him. She was surprised and pleased to see that there were many gentlemen on board when the first thing her sockets landed on was a reaper offering his dry coat to the spidery demon ghoul. The skeleton sincerely hoped that this demon appreciated common sense and courtesy. Catching Professor Blue's demand of a song a bit belatedly, the boney teen tapped her fingers hesitantly against her dripping dress. She didn't really know that many songs, having never been sung to for any reason, but she could remember once she'd overheard a Ghost Nanny singing to one of their master's children. How had that song gone again? Stuttering it out phrase by phrase and as loudly as she could, Tabitha hoped to Jack that she was doing it right. They stole little Bridget For seven years long; When she came down again Her friends were all gone. They took her lightly back Between the night and morrow; They thought she was fast asleep, But she was dead with sorrow. They have kept her ever since Deep within the lake, On a bed of flag leaves, Watching till she wake. ... Was that right? It didn't seem right to Tabitha surely there was more before and after that... But the skeleton couldn't remember. Frowning- She shook her head. At least she'd been enthusiastic in her singing, she hoped that counted for something but something told her it wouldn't. "... Uhm. Are we allowed to just leave to change?" She wasn't actually cold, no nerves or skin and all, but Tabi really did hate seeing her pretty dress all sopping wet. (( Hot Lolli))

The sleuth was as dripping wet as the rest of them but she stood and listened to Rosc go off on her. For a moment she considered whistling for her hound but then she realized he was just letting out his frustration. She had to remember...this wasn't a trained crew. These were just kids in a bad situation, about to be thrown into a rescue mission without even being really sure how to save themselves if something went wrong. She just crossed her arms and looked at the wet bedraggled group with a mild frown.
"Look you may think I'm cruel, you might think I don't care, and really I don't mind if your opinion of me or the captain is a poor one...but when we give you orders their for a damn good reason. Better you experience shock here and now while we have dry changes of clothes, food, and first aid available. Out there if anything happens...you need to be ready." She looked back at Rosc for a moment and then decided to let it go...this time. She expected to have volunteers to swab the deck later anyway...but if not she knew who she was gonna recruit.
Then Blue appeared and she smiled and stood with a tiny salute, ah the captain. Then she listened to him order song or being tossed overboard and paled. He was kidding right? She had just finished telling these kids that they cared about their well being. She pursed her lips but didn't argue, after all Blue WAS the captain and Sleuth didn't believe in mutiny. She just listened as the children sang and then nodded at the ones who were desperate to change into dry clothes. She herself was ready to change as well so she headed below decks.
Later that evening...
Sleuth tried to rally the 'crew' back together, but she figured some might not want to hear anymore of her ideas about their safety and that of the ship. That was fine, right now she needed some volunteers, and if there weren't any...she scowled.
"Listen up! We all have to be on this boat together, so everyone on board is responsible for keeping it clean. I'd like to all to help out in some way, polish the rails, swab the decks, clean out the quarters, do some dishes. Understand? Good!"
She headed back down into the kitchens to take her own advice and wash some dishes.

Blue's spirits seemed particularly better than they had been earlier as he listened to his students not only sing for him but sing for him out of fear of being thrown overboard. He loved it and it didn't even take him all five songs to be sung before he was smiling and happily tossing his hair behind his shoulders, dangling carefully overboard as he swayed with the waves and the tunes. He especially seemed to enjoy Ren's song, nearly flipping over the side of the boat with excitement. He held his enjoyment though, and gave a nod to the gryphon. After that, he particularly seemed to enjoy Mac's song.
In the end, he enjoyed all of their songs and even approved them going to change into dry clothes. Perhaps he for an alternative reason, but he still approved. He did care about his precious students, very much so.

GM EVENT POST: DAY 2As all of the students began to go under the deck to change into dryer clothes, and the crew finished doing their small tasks, Blue remained up on the deck. The captain would stay with his Lady in Red, and watch the ocean. It was quiet, and the waves made a soothing sound for anyone who happened to remain on deck. There was a fog coming in quickly to the ship, and soon it covered all of the area and the deck. It was impossible to see out of and soon Blue couldn't see anything more than a few feet past the ship. It was thick, very thick. Some students might find it hard to breath if they came back up on the deck.
There were strange noises from all around them. Who knew what was in the mist? It would take at least three days to get out of it, and in the process lose 50 food. Rosc... actually felt a little bit better. He'd chewed the Sleuth out (Even though she didn't show any amount of contrite) and taken out the last of his frustration by singing a song to Blue that, well, really told exactly how he felt about singing a song at someone's whim. And he hadn't been bad, Rosc was actually a good singer despite his dislike for it. His talents were very musically inclined (Probably got it from his father's side of the family). He just felt that lyrics cluttered up a song. The only thing people ever heard was the singer half the time, they couldn't really appreciate the instruments.
He'd let off steam and once he was finally dismissed he sloshed back over to his bag and coat and boots, picked them up, and disappeared below to find a place to change out of his wet clothing. Maybe he would check on Gabrian afterward, or later, give him a hand with that arm. He was good with dressing wounds, fighting practice (among other things) gave him lots of practice with it. He could give the other demon a hand... Maybe.

Alwine grabbed a mop with a flourish and did a little twirl. So she had missed the singing. So what? She was still cheerful, as ghosts couldn't really complain about hypothermia or being drenched or the like.
Obviously in the mood for dancing, Alwine did a small spin before kicking over a bucket filled with water. As the deck became drenched, the headless haunt began to glide and mop like she was dancing a waltz. One-two-three, one-two-three, one-two-three...
My, she was in a surprisingly good mood. She only stopped when she realized that Professor Blue might see... she did NOT want him to see her in a good mood. So quickly she put on a more dejected posture and swabbed a little more slowly than before.

The singing had, surprisingly, helped Ren to feel the tiniest bit better. Not only that, but Professor Blue seemed to have liked his song as well, which made him feel a tad less pathetic about the fact that he was standing there, sopping wet, shivering, sneezing, and feeling like utter crap that he had caused Gabrian to hurt his arm.
But only a tad.
He was beginning to chill now, and once they were (finally) given permission to go change, Ren all but darted away from the rest, pushing dripping hair back away from his face as he left Gabrian standing on deck. He was embarrassed beyond belief about the fact that he had fallen overboard of the ship. The other students had seen him do so, which was a great start to the whole field trip.
What a nightmare, Ren thought as he glanced into the first room he saw belowdeck. It was tight quarters; they'd most likely have to be sharing rooms, so Ren threw his bag on the first bed, opened it, and tossed a pillow onto the second bed to reserve it for Gabrian. Slowly, with great effort, Ren peeled off his wet clothing, shivering as he hung them over the door. He pulled on a set of warmer clothes - dry clothes, hugging himself happily once he had finished. Then he sat down on the edge of the bed.
I could go back up... Ren thought to himself, but shook his head quickly. He did not particularly want to see anyone right now, not after falling off the Jackdamn boat and getting Gabrian hurt when they had still been in the Jackdamn harbor. He glanced around the room. It was dusty. Very dusty. And he could hear Sleuth yelling above, something about being responsible and working together and cleaning.
Ren eyed the dust. Then, with a sigh, he looked around for a rag. He found one, stuffed into a small pail at the foot of his bed. Cleaning would be a good distraction from the fact that he felt like puking his guts out, at least, and he scrubbed hard, working to get everything nice and shiny. Finally, after quite a while, he stepped back, satisfied with his own handiwork.
Now that the room's clean...naptime!
So he curled up and went to sleep. The next day he wished he had stayed asleep, since they were, in fact, surrounded on all sides by water, more water, fog, weird sounds, and more water. Ren, sitting up on the deck, having somehow successfully avoided seeing both Gabrian and everyone else since he'd gone below deck the previous day (he'd feigned sleep when the nix had come in for the night), held a pail in his hands as he looked out across the sea, a vague greenish tint to his face.
So much fog...

There was the distinct sound of boots on wood as Rosc walked back up to the deck, just in time to here the Sleuth give yet another order. He was wearing clean clothes, a different set of pants, new bandages, he even wore a loose, black long-sleeve shirt over them. His hair was mused but dry and he was back to wearing his coat, though his pin remained on a belt-loop. His hands were in his coat pockets.
At least it wasn't something particularly dangerous, something they could all do without having to be taught. It was more useful than jumping overboard, he thought, and she hadn't really ordered them this time. She'd phrased it as a request. And while part of his really, really wanted to rebel against it just to teach her a lesson, that wasn't how things worked. Make others know how you want them to act by rewarding the right actions. Do as you're told when it best suits you.
He stuck a headphone into one ear to listen to music while he took to polishing the rails, doing his best to stay out of the way of the happy little headless ghost. It wasn't a poor job, nothing exceptional either. Pretty average amount of effort.

Arachne headed off below deck to find a room to change in, picking one that so far didn't seem to have an occupant. She dropped her bag on the floor by the bed, taking off Mac's coat first and folding that neatly before putting it at the foot of her bed. She would give it back once she was changed. She stripped completely, quickly taking off every sodden piece of clothing and crouched shivering as she rooted through her bag, pulling out dry underwear, then outwear. Lastly a towel was pulled out, and she patted her damp skin, roughly tousling her hair before wrapping it turban style on her head so that she could dress.
Every piece made her feel warmer than the last, and when she was finally dressed, she was feeling much more like herself, clad in a red blouse, tailored and fitted bootleg pants over soft leather boots. Over the blouse was a tailored jacket, black with a red lining. She brushed her now drying hair and then went back up on deck, catching the Sleuth's last words as she did so.
'Clean?' She had someone to do that at home - and no one to do that at the school as her Grandmother had wanted her to become capable and independant. She wasn't the most diligent of cleaners but she did pick up after herself when necessary and even did her laundry! She passed the headless ghost girl who was swabbing the decks as though the mop was a dance partner and gave her a little smile, and went down this time into the kitchen to offer a hand there which she did for quite a while, and worked relatively well until she tired of doing so.

((... apparently during this trip, Gabe can not swim, but he can clean *facepalms*))
The fact Mac had not shaken his hand, but rather, his forearm, was not missed on the demon, and for a long moment, he blinked, allowing the reaper to do as he wished. It was almost as if a little light bulb had begun to flash over his head, and he nodded slightly; he understood. At least on some baser, lesser level, but he understood. He wasn't sure what had brought the reaper to dislike demons in the first place, and while he didn't particularly approve of the fact he was choosing to lump all of them into the same cliché... well, at least now Gabrian knew it wasn't him the other boil apparently 'hated'. Maybe he was wrong in his asumptions, but for now, that seemed enough and allowed him to nod at Mac.
Of course, reminiscing while Ren was slumped against him and he was freezing to death was not a particularly smart idea at all. In fact, when Professor Blue asked the sing, the nix was too busy shivering to produce anything but a soft humming sound. Apparently, it was enough though, because they were dismissed and he was finally allowed to go change (and treat his small wound). Getting up, he offered the gryphon a smile, "I'm alright," this was mouthed softly, almost a whisper as he patted the other boil's shoulder, "Thank you though," he lifted his arm from where he was cradling it against his stomach, "I think I might steal this for a while, if you don't mind though," he smirked slightly and then turned to look at Rosciel. From his vantage point in the ocean before, he hadn't really... been able to see if the other demon had jumped in to help him or not, but something deep in the back of his mind told him he had. As such, when he passed by the incubus' side, he offered him a smile, "Thanks," this was murmured, almost whispered so others couldn't hear. Something about the other boil made Gabrian think he was trying to keep up some sort of facade; he could relate to that, and while he wasn't embarrassed to thank him, maybe the incubus would be embarrassed to receive his thanks, "I'll talk to you later then."
That said, he waited for Ren to catch up and then marched off to change. Heavenly, sweet, warm, dry clothes. That's what he needed.
----- ((Later. MUCH LATER))
Dry clothes could to a lot to motivate a person, he realized. After all, when Sleuth shouted that she thought they should all help, the demon only hesitated for a moment, letting out a soft sigh. Ren had been avoiding him (and something told him it had to do with his arm injury, which was, in fact, feeling a lot better now), and well, he despite the fact he loved water, he didn't particularly like the idea of having to go back on the deck.
For one, it meant that the water he could not enjoy was right there, just beyond his reach and it was beginning to frustrate him. For seconds, well, the gryphon refused to go near the deck, and he thought it was high time he had a chat with him about what had happened before the boat parted. He also needed to go find the incubus demon so he could thank him properly; he had to admit he was rather curious about him anyhow, and would like to have a proper conversation. There was also Mac, the reaper, but he'd decided it was probably for the best to leave him to do as he wished, pondering it was best to let him approach rather than go seek him out himself.
He decided to clean his way down the lower decks until he stumbled across someone. Anyone he could talk to. Apparently, cleaning was something he was not half bad at though. Lovely. So apparently he proved during this trip that he couldn't rescue his friend, but he could clean. Gabrian deeply considered stopping his cleaning in order to headwall, but he refrained.

Barely being able to see two inches from her face meant nothing- Tabitha was in dry, stolen, sailor clothing and had set herself to the task of also swabbing the deck with the ghost girl. It was a big boat after all and two ghouls were better than one. Grabbing another mop, she swished it back and forth and the slop-slopping noise it created made her laugh a little. Unlike most other students, the skeleton knew nothing about Blue. So she didn't give two licks to him seeing her happy in her chore. Well- Happy in the disgusting noises her chore made.
Slop.

The moment he was allowed, he had gone down to the lower deck and wandered to the bed he had claimed as his own, changing into dry clothes and his spare jacket. He had even tried to go back onto the deck itself, but the fog was setting in...and even he found it difficult to breathe in it. So, after a rest on his bunk, he finally got around to trying to clean; he spotted Ren and Gabrian cleaning the lower decks, so that was out. The Sleuth and Arachne were in the kitchen. Alright, they had that under control.
Time to brave the fog, then!
Making his way to the deck, he looked around; the incubus was polishing the rails, while Alwine and the skeleton swabbed. Hrm, choices, choices. While so far there were two people to each task with the exception of the incubus, it only seemed fair for him to join in on polishing the rails.
But he didn't.
He had a threat to keep at bay after all, and instead headed to grab another broom to help Alwine and the Skeleton ghoul swab the deck. The skeleton looked only too happy to be swabbing, but Alwine...suddenly lost all her spark? Interesting. He began to swab the deck himself, looking to Alwine first.
"What's the matter? Don't like an audience?" Mac teased good naturedly, in much better spirits to be talking to, well, not-demons. He didn't know who Professor Blue was, so he had no idea it would potentially be a fairly bad idea to look excited about something. A few sweeps into mopping, and he gave a thoughtful hum before looking at the skeleton ghoul. So interesting, a walking skeleton! He didn't see many of those.
"I don't think we've met. I'm Mac, " Oh yes, he was much more friendly now, extending a hand to the lovely set of bones.
He was clearly too busy introducing himself to be any sort of help.
